I recently transfered everything from my emac to another one but now when I try to open iTunes I get the window that states: The file "iTunes Library" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes. The computer I transfered to had a bunch of files on it and I got full ownership of what was already there, so, how do I get to my iTunes library, I do have access as an administrator to the iTunes library (that works just fine) already there and I guess I must have had a newer version ofiTunes on my defunt eMac....

Tell us some version numbers please, of your Mac OS versions and iTunes versions on both computers (two eMacs yes?).

That is a pretty good guess.Try updating the second eMac's iTunes to at least the version that was on the first.

  • I cant open my itunes because "another user as it open"

Hellow, I have itunes for two years now and recently when I am trying to open my itune it just open a window saying "you cannot open the application itubes because another user as it open" but I dont have another user on my windows 7 computer so I dont understant what I should do?

    1. First check if this file APSDaemon.exe is the problem here.
    Close your iTunes.
Press Ctrl-Alt-Del key and choose Task Manager. In the "Processes" Tab, select the file APSDaemon.exe and click End Prosses button, then close the task manager window.
Now open itunes and see if it is working?
If that works, to prevent having to do the same process everytime you restart Windows, go to. START button, type in
    MSCONFIG
    Hit ENTER
Click STARTUP Tab, Uncheck "Apple Push", click OK.
    Restart Windows.
    2. If that fails, refer to following article to remove SC Info.lib file:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2363
    3. If that fails, repair or reinstall your Quicktime. START / CONTROL PANEL / PROGRAMS N FEATURES / hightlight QUICKTIME and click REPAIR.

  • After I install Itunes 10.5.2 and open itunes a window opens stating another program is not allowing itunes to burn cd's. Next, I get an error window stating itunes 42404 is missing. I've uninstalled itunes 3 times and re-installed. No luck.

After I install iTunes 10.5.2 and open iTunes a window opens stating "The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and CD's and DVD's are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes." This happens everytime.
After that on one occasion a window stated "Itunes msi) was missing. Upon uninstalling and reinstalling that disapeared. Now I get a window stating, (A required Itunes component is not installed. Please repair or reinstall Itunes.(_42404)"

  • Itunes Dosn't Open After Upgrading to latest version

Itunes was working correctly before this incident occurred. The Itunes update seemed to install fine, but when i got to intsalling Quicktime problems arose. I received an error code : -3 message and around the same time i received "quicktime.msi can't be located" message. After realising something was seriously wrong i tried to open Itunes and quicktime individually with both bottoming out as soon as they were clicked on. I have also downloaded/installed the standalone quicktime installer and then tried to uninstall quicktime but it refuses to.
Then i went to the registry and deleted it there only to have the same problems when installing. Itunes can be uninstalled with no worries but when it comes to installing i receive both the error 1714 and error 1603 messages.
I have tried a system restore.
Also I have tried closing off all my antivirus, spyware and malware programs then reinstalling but to no avail.
I also tried a step mentioned in a document about deleting a file in an itunes folder located in C;/documentsandsetting/all users.
I have also tried the Windows Install cleaner but after installing it i went to use it and it crashed, which has continued to do so.
At one stage quicktime was asking me to debug the installation of quicktime by clicking on retry. I clicked retry and nothing happened.
Lastly i now get a "Error #63441" message when trying to start quicktime.
Please help me I really am at my last straw with getting itunes back up an running

Alls working now. I used the reg cleaner program and manually deleted the quicktime key in my register. then searched for all quicktime files and removed them and then uninstalled itunes followed by restarting the pc. I then reinstalled itunes from the cd i was originally given with my ipod.

  • "You cannot open the application "itunes" because another user has it open" I'm the only user

Before you ask, no, I don't have more than one user account.
I have nothing running that would be using itunes either, it just won't allow me to open itunes.
I even went to the task manager to see if it was somehow open elsewhere, and it's not.
I can restart my computer and it'll work the first time to open, but not after that, even though like I said, it isn't running period.

    dcwdcw:
The solution to your problem is to close the other user's copy of iTunes, so that you are only using one copy of iTunes at any time. As long as you have separate user accounts, your nephew's iTunes and everything in it will be separate.
I assume the problem is that having two copies of iTunes open at the same time violates the licence to use iTunes which, in common with "paid for" software, usually has the restriction that you can only use one copy at a time unless you have a _multiple user_ licence.
Of course it's a bit silly - iTunes is free, but I suspect that's what the problem is.
The original poster has a different problem though, but I don't understand ATV because I don't have it, which is why I haven't been able to help the OP. Hopefully, someone else can.

  • Getting setup assistant every time I open itunes

Hey everyone I get setup assisant everytime I open itunes. My content is fine, the library is there in full but it just pops up everytime... and gets annoying (though its not a large issue). For what it's worth I did transfer my music from another PC about 1.5 months ago and have had this issue for at least a couple of weeks (I don't remember noticing it right away but I was moving and a little busy with other things).
I've tried to recreate the shortcuts and to uninstall/reinstall itunes all with no luck. I've also opened the program from the root file in c:programs/itunes/itunes.eexe with the same result (nothing). Any help? Save me from slowly going insane...

Something you could try is to delete your preference files. This forces iTunes to create new ones. If it works you should get the setup assistant the first time you start iTunes after doing it, but not after that.
You don't get asked for the password to your store account do you? If you do, this is something different.
The other question is does iTunes remember your preferences when you go into Edit>>Preferences and change something?
    Resetting the iTunes Preference Files:
You may need to make hidden files visible
    My Documents>Tools>Folder Options>View
Check Show hidden files and folders
    -- Quit iTunes
    -- Delete C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref and/or iTunesPrefs.xml
    -- Delete C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer Inc\iTunes.pref and/or iTunesPrefs.xml
For Vista the files are in:
    C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
    C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes
If the above doesn't work and you feel like an experiment, try setting up a new user account and seeing if the problem occurs there. This will tell you if it is an account specific problem or a general one.
There is a description how to set up an account in this article about something else:

  • Why is it everytime i open itunes i have to log in

everytime i open itunes it has reset and i have to log in again and then change the view. i.e. show sidebar?

Also, I assume it's the username and password for your home page, which could be Gmail, Yahoo mail, or another secure site you want to visit that requires a login. Is that right, or is this request coming out of left field?

  • HT1925 I get a message saying The feature I am trying to use is on a network resource that is unavalable when I try to open iTunes.

When I try to open iTunes a widow appears called Windows Installer.  It tells me that the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavalable.  It tell me to Click OK or try again or enter an alternative path to a folder containing the intallation package iTunes.msi.  I suggests I should find this in a drop down box in the window.  There is a box but no folder iTunes.msi.  If I click the cancel button iTunes will open and work. I wish to uninstall iTunes and then reinstall it.  I am finding that I can play music on iTunes OK through my sound card but if I try to play streamed music from the web in YouTube and fom My Space the music is a poor quality with crackles and distortion. Other forums suggest uninstalling iTunes and then re-installing it.  I ahve tried to uninstall iTunes but it comes up with the Window noted above and then stops.  I need to stop the crackle when streaming music. Please help.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • "Send Error Report" Message When Trying to Open iTunes

I've looked for two days to find a solution to this problem and tried everything I've come across. Nothing has worked so far, and every time I try to open iTunes I still get the "send error report". I know that that does nothing. I've un-installed and re-installed both Quicktime and iTunes and it doesn't work. I've tried to see if it will work on another account on the same computer but it doesn't work. What is the next step?
    Thanks!

Good-O. Not seeing an error message there rules out another possible set of problems, so we're still making progress.
Okay, we'll try swapping out your existing QuickTime one more time, taking a few extra explicit precautions along the way.
First, download and save a fresh copy of the QuickTimeInstaller.exe to your hard drive. (Don't run the install on line and don't run the install just yet.) Get the installer that doesn't mention iTunes:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
Now head into your "Add or Remove Programs" control panel and uninstall QuickTime.
Next we'll remove any leftover QuickTime program files and folders.
    Restart the PC.
Open Local Disk C: or whichever drive your program files are installed on.
    Open the "Program Files" folder.
Right-click the "QuickTime" folder (if it still exists) and select Delete.
Go back into Local Disk C: or whichever drive your Operating System files are installed on.
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "system32" folder.
Right-click on the QuickTime file (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
Right-click on the QuickTimeVR file (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
Empty your Recycle Bin and restart the PC again.
After the PC restarts, do not open any applications. Disconnect from your network and/or the internet. Now disable all your security software (firewall, antivirus, antispyware).
Now start the QuickTime install by doubleclicking on the QuickTimeInstaller.exe file you downloaded earlier.
Reenable all security software prior to reconnecting to the internet and/or your network.
Did that install seem to go through okay? If so, does QuickTime launch normally this time?

  • ITunes missing from Media Browser -- "open itunes to populate list"

I am on a MacBook Pro 10.7.3 running GarageBand '11 6.0.4 and all of the sudden no tracks will display under Audio in the Media Browser (Photos and Movies still appear). No tracks from either iTunes or GB show up. This is confusing as I have been using GB to make podcast/music mixes for more than 5 years and I haven't changed any settings or done anything different, but now I get the message "open itunes to populate list" or "To see GB songs here, open GB to edit and save your music."
Also, for quite some time I have been unable to go the alternative route of dragging tracks directly from iTunes and dropping them on to the timeline in GB -- that used to work, but mysteriously stopped, so I am dependent on the Media Browser for importing music.
I read thru the forums and tried the advice given to someone this was happening to in Final Cut -- recreating iTunes .xml file. Did that, still no tracks display.
Other advice says to reinstall GB or iLife altogether -- I hope to avoid this, but if I need to go this route, how do I reinstall GB w/o a disk? Can I do it through App Store and will it recognize that I have already purchased it?
I am dying to be able to get back in to my music mix making in GB, so thanks in advance.

you can't, you'd need to find the DVD

no, it'll only recognize your purchase if it was through the app store

  • TS3297 Every time I open iTunes to listen to music, not access the iTunes Store, I get the password sign in box, over and over again. When I try to access the iTunes Store it does not except my password. This has happened since the last update.

Everytime I open iTunes to play music, NOT to access the iTunes Store, I get the password sign in box for the iTunes Store. If I click cansel the box pops up a second time.
When I try to sign in to the iTunes Store it does not except the password and pops up the sign in box afain, and again endlessly.
This started happening about two weeks ago.

if itunes will not run, you probably have mangled windows badly
one feature of windows 8 is the refresh that saves libraries,
because you are using windows 7, you will need to backup all files to another storage device

  • Every time I open iTunes I have to agree to the licence . . . . and MORE!

    Windows 7 64 bit  /  iTunes 11.0.4.4
    Every time I open iTunes, I have to perform the following repetitive steps;
    -Accept the license agreement
-Click Agree on the Welcome Screen
-Decline the default player offer even though I have checked the "do not show" box
    -Select "Show Menu Bar"
    -Select "Show Side Bar"
This is getting real tiresome. Help in resolving this issue appreciated - IM

I found the solution and copy/pasted the stept to take. I got it from another subject related to the problem on this thread and it works for me.

yep, let's investigate the preference files possibility. First, quit iTunes and log back into your usual user account. Next, we'll have to set your PC up to view hidden files and folders. From the Start menu, click Open.
In the Organize menu, click Folder and Search Options.
    Click the View tab.
In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected.
Click OK. Now, in Computer, open "Local Disk C:".
    Open the "Users" folder.
Open the folder with the name of your usual user account.
    Open the "AppData" folder.
    Open the "Local" folder.
Open the "Apple Computer" folder. Drag the "iTunes" folder you see in there out onto the Desktop. Now launch iTunes. (This will cause iTunes to rebuild that set of preference files.) *The license agreement will appear for you again.* (That is expected behavior when that particular set of preference files is being rebuilt.)
    Cheers all
