Word & Excel won't launch after attempted "DiskFull" fix

In trying to fix a not-very-important issue, I have lost access to all my MS Word applications. Here's what happened:
I occasionally have the "diskfull" error message, so I tracked down
an article (see below) and used Workaround #2 to put the "FixDiskFull Issue.dot"
in my Word startup folder.
Now, unfortunately, none of my MSOffice files open . I just get the
"quit unexpectedly" error message.

Workaround #2
You must have Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) installed in order for this workaround to activate. If you have never installed VBA, you will find it in the Value Pack on your Office X or Office 2001 installation CD. After installing it, you will need to re-apply all Updaters appropriate to your version of Office.
Clicking on the following link will download the fix to your computer: FixDiskFullIssue.dot
Install the template by dragging it into your Applications: Microsoft Office (2001 or X): Office: Startup: Word folder. You should now see “Disk Full Error?” on your File Menu in Word, just below the various Save options. If you do not, you will have to perform a few extra steps as follows:
Go to the Tools menu: Templates & Add-Ins. You should see FixDiskFullIssue.dot in the Global Templates & Add-Ins box. Make sure it is checked.
If FixDiskFullIssue.dot does not appear in the Global Templates & Add-Ins box, click on Add, navigate to the FixDiskFullIssue.dot template (in the Office: Startup: Word folder), and double click on it. It will now appear in the Global Templates & Add-Ins box where you need to check it to enable it.
With the template properly installed, if you ever try to save a Word document and get the “disk full” error, just go to the File menu in Word, click on “Disk Full Error?” and you will be prompted to allow Word to close all temporary files. You will also be reminded to perform any desired Undo actions since they will no longer be available after running the fix.
In trying to fix things myself, I have:
Dragged the "FixDiskFullIssue.dot" to the trash, emptied trash and
restarted. In other words, I tried to undo what I did the first time.
No effect.
Opened Time Machine, navigated to MSWord and "restored" thinking it
would put yesterday's Word back in. But Word still doesn't open.
Contacted the author who says she cannot help me and to try a Forum.
I'm at a loss. Perhaps there is something else installed outside of MSOffice that affects what happens on startup?

I thought of something else that might be causing all these launch failures. This morning I opened an Excel doc from someone who has a newer version. I was prompted to "convert" it so my app could read it. Now, when I try to open any of my own Excel docs, all the Excel I have tried to open since the problem, flash on the screen, and a "converting" slide bar opens and tells me it's trying to convert the file (from what? It's mine!) and then everything stops and I get that familiar "the application Excel quit unexpectedly."
So, perhaps this conversion attempt this morning has corrupted something unrelated to the attempt to fix the "Diskfull" issue.

D.O.T hase stoped working

i hope that some one can help me with this....
well here goes i have a msi 6800gt ,and i was runing it with the msi driver 71.89 and D.O.T was working fine..
but now that i have upgraded the driver to 77.45 the D.O.T tabs are still there but not working ,
is this a bug?????
i must say that with the 77.45 driver the games look better thou...also is this the newest driver???????

Always? You mean other than dynamically?
Dynamic overclocking basically takes the "fudge factor" out of overclocking, either by monitoring by demand, heat, or or some other algorithym. At least that is the theory behind it. With manual overclocking, it takes some time and tedious testing to find the sweetspots for your particular card's capabilities paired with your system. Whereas DOT is basically agnostic to your hardware. In some cases, DOT can overclock too much, or not enough. I have had DOT installed before, and it did rather well, and in some systems it generated artifacts using similar settings and hardware.
So, it still becomes tedious to find the right balance. I prefer the old fashioned way using coolbits. And it doesn't overclock your card all the time unless you are overclocking in 2d as opposed to 3D. Why anyone would want to overclock the 2d is beyond my knowledge. It only kicks in when 3D apps are launched.
Often, with manual overclocking, many folks don't take into account ambient temps and never consider more cooling during summer months. Not to mention dust buildup on the fan blades and heatsinks. After time, an overheated card will fail sooner, and then you then have a really fast keychain. If you notice your overclock is degrading, those are several things to consider.

You do need the dashes.
Also double check that O & 0, I & 1 are not being confused.
The serial no. pretty much follows a three numbers then three letters approach.

Word 2003 always asks to save the normal.dot since Acrobat 9 was installed

Until Acrobat 9 Standard was installed on the 5000 PCs of our company, the following issue never occured.
As soon as Acrobat 9 Standard was installed, our users started to complain of messages asking them to save the normal.dot every time Word 2003 or Outlook 2003 if Word is used as editor, is closed. And even if they save the normal.dot, of course, next time they are requested to save again.
And if we uninstall Acrobat 9 Standard on the PCs concerned, the issue dissapear... and reappear if we re-install it.
So, the issue is clearly linked to Acrobat 9 Standard.
Of course, the Word 2003 option "Confirm to save the normal.dot" is NOT checked.
It doesn't seems to happens on all the PCs but we can't isolate the commun point between those which have the issue.
All our PCs are made by ghosting so are pretty similar, with Windows XP SP3 avec Office 2003 SP3... and now Acrobat 9.1.3 Standard.
In case that would help the diagnostic, on the PCs without the issue, the message doesn't appear, but, still, the behavior of the normal.dot changes : the time stamp changes every time Word or Outlook is closed. Before the install of Acrobat 9, the timestamp was not changing everything, but only of changes were made.
So, I guess Acrobat 9 Standard (probably the add-in for pdfmaker) forces the saving of all the .dot everytime Word or Outlook is closed.

Thanks for your reply, but the issue is the same even when Word is not the default editor in Outlook.
Regarding the Office 2003 and Acrobat 9 updates, we are already up-to-date for Acrobat 9, but it's true that all our PCs have not yet received the SP3 for Office 2003, so it may be a trail to follow.
But I think the issue also happens even on some PCs with most up-to-date Office 2003, so I'd say it's probably not the solution.
But it doesn't seems that this kind of issue is widly encountered (I mean elsewhere than in our company).
So there is probably something specific to our environnement. And since we pretty much "lock-down" the PCs (to avoid users to mess with it), it's not impossible that some restrictions somewhere on the PC causes the issue... at least to some categories of users who are missing some authorisations.
But I'm sure that when we uninstall the "Adobe PDFMaker" component (in add/remove programs), the problem dissappear. So we are probably going to adopt this "solution" to make the steam goes down among our annoyed employees... until we'll find a better one.

The Download is about 4GB, it depends on how fast your internet connection is and how busy Apple computers are. Have you any way of checking if your Internet is downloading, I.E activity lights on you router. My Internet is 8Mb/s download and it took just over an hour to download earlier today.
I am not sure about a "time remaining"icon.

Bootcamp installing windows 7 freezes on starting windows red dot appears of logo animation and just hangs there for ever

I installed bootcamp windows 7 on my mac now im trying to install it on my friends mac... i have tried 3 different ISO via usb after the partition and the create bootable usb it restarts starts and it get to the point of starting windows a red dot appears wich is the logo animation and hangs there forever... i left it 6 hours and nothing happen.. I tried other methods to install windows XP by doing a Partition NTSF and inserted the DVD (windows XP) holding option key selected the dvd...it starts the progress and hangs in starting windows just like the windows 7 ISO.... im all out of options i tried several HDD, USB, USB ports, everything it wont get past the starting windows.... i have used, windows 7 64 bit and 32 bit ,home, proffesional, windows XP home, proffesional

Each dot release installs on top of previous dot releases. So your operating should only be able to see one version installed: Lightroom 5.7.
I'm not aware of any way to uninstall dot releases (nor should it be necessary) since files are overwritten, not installed alongside.
AFAIK, you can only uninstall major versions. So if you uninstall Lightroom 5, you'd be uninstalling 5.7.
Now that you have 5.7 can you separately launch 5.2 or 5.6?

BIOS not installed to blinking dot black screen =|

I had the problem outlined in this thread here with the msg that BIOS was not installed, the only difference was that my computer wouldnt boot at all after and would get stuck on the No SATA devices found screen.

I followed their advice, reset CMOS to get into BIOS and turned off the 2 SATA options.
Now when I reboot I get the MSI logo screen and then my monitor flicks off and on, and then I get a black screen with a white blinking dot in the top left corner.
Any ideas?

Trying to install dot net 3.5 on 2 fully patched 2012 standard server

I have tried the dism method as well as the alternate source to the wim and the sxs folder but it always ends up with error 0x800f081f as the source is no good. I tried the offline installer which fails while running the dism command
I need this to test out the system center service manager

so the issue is definetly the fully patched
I just loaded up a fresh install of 2012 standard and dotnet installed with no issues pointing to the same source
this is the same process for the fully patched servers but they are fully patched and don't work
so i'm wondering if the update rollup makes the original dvd useless
if that is the case where do I get the sxs directory for the applied update rollup?
i'll try uninstalling the update rollup and post back whenafter testing
