Dot Matrix / Impact printing under MacOS 10.6

As a last throw of the dice, after days of googling this is my last effort!
I'm looking for any dot matrix / impact printer (9 or 24pin) that is known to work and compatable with a new iMac running MacOS 10.6
I've read conflicting reports on using generic drivers on Epson printers, and wondered if anyone has actually tried it (with the use of a Keyspan USB adaptor for instance...)
Any reports, either good or bad, greatly welcomed!

Did you ever get an answer on this?
I ask because I need to "pick one" regarding a new impact printer.
I'm looking at a Lexmark 2590n...
Wondering if anyone has any experience here?
(getting info on dot matrix/impact printers for macs is.... difficult)

  • Adobe print form on dot matrix printer

Has anyone tried to print adobe forms into a dot matrix printer i.e. printing multi-part documents. I've read that the device type supported are PostScript, PCL, PDF and ZPL. The help file specifically mentioned that SAPWIN device type won't be supported, but it does not mentioned explecitly weather ASCII device type or device type for dot matrix/impact printer is supported or not.
I'm still holding up hope that adobe print forms scenario will be able to do this since we are planning to go ahead with 100% adobe form solution.
    Any info would greatly appreciated.

The supported output formats of ADS are PostScript, PCL, PDF and ZPL. That means that your printer has to support one of the mentioned formats to be supported. So the answer to your question is no.

  • Printing Reports to Dot-Matrix Printer

I have a customer that is trying to print a report to my company's dot-matrix printer and we keep seeing a "bold/unbold" command (7B, OB) where we should be getting actual bolded text. Is there anyone who has experience printing Oracle reports to a simple dot-matrix text printer? Can you suggest a printer emulation or fix?

The dflt132,dflt like.. files in c:\orawin95\rdbms\reports\print(may be dir is correct) for the printer and make sure that the file contains the correct escape sequence
    like if bold escape "70",etc..
if you know Foxpro Special Char values, the samething you can apply in the dflt files.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can I user Dot Matrix Printer under UTF8 character set ?

    Hi,
We are using UTF8 character set. Somebody told me that I can only use the postscript printer. Is it necessary to set up a report server if I need to print on dot-matrix printer? Any workaround solution?
    Thanks and regards
    Toby

Your printer emulation and the SAP device type for the output device must match.
For example, if you use IBM Proprinter emulation, then use device type IBM4232.
If you use Epson emulation, then you may have a look at note 1135053.
What are your emulation and device type?

  • Does anyone know of a dot-matrix printer compatible with Mac OS X Lion?

We need to upgrade our system at work to Mac OS X 10.7 Lion.  We need to find a dot-matrix printer to print our multi-part forms.  We have been using an Epson FX-980 and FX-890N under OS X 10.4 (Classic Mode).  I've tried to use the FX-890N (newer) using the Epson 9-pin driver supplied with OS X 10.7.  The print quality is so bad it's almost illegable.  I also tried different fonts in the hopes to improve print quality but have not been able to improve.
We have GOT to get to OS X 10.7 Lion, but cannot give up our impact printing capability.  We are willing to buy a new impact printer if needed.
    Please HELP!!!
    <Email Edited By Host>

I tried your link, but it came back with no page found at Lexmark.  We just purchased a LexMark Forms (dot-matrix) Printer Model 2580n after takling with sales support at LexMark.  They confirmed that this printer worked with Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion).  HOWEVER, after receiving the printer, and unsuccessfully attempting to get it to print, I called their tech support.  They told me that their sales dept was incorrect, and that they do not have a dot-matrix printer that will work with OS X 10.7.  They are in the process of issuing me an RMA# to return the printer with a full refund.
Nothing would make me happier than for you to prove them wrong.  I DESPERATELY need to find a dot-matrix printer that does work with OS X 10.7.
Any additional input you could supply would be greatly appreciated.  I look forward to your reply.

There is something I don't understand: if the barcode printed is visually correct, and exactly the same as with a laser printer, why do you want it would be better with a PDF (especially on a dot matrix printer).
Could you also tell us what symbology you use, and do you use smart form new barcode technology?

  • Printing in Dot Matrix Printer

    Hi to all,
As we know that the dos matrix printer supports dos prompt and thus printing speed and
life of the printing head is comparatively more than what we print the same in graphical format.
So when I tried to print from SAP Bone in dot matrix printer, the printing speed is very slow and quality of printout is not good enough.
Any clarifications on this regard would prove very helpful to me.
    Regards,
    Aditya

Do you use one of this printer types:
Dot Matrix, Printer, Needle Printer, Citizen ProDot 300 , Oki Microline
    , Epson FX880, Epson FX890 ?
Here the stepwise I have tried :
In order to print using Dot Matrix printers, follow the below
    instructions:
       1. Run SAP Business One.
       2. Click the upper menu 'File' and select 'Page Setup'.
       3. The Print Setup window opens. Under 'Paper', in the field 'Size', select 'Letter' from the drop down menu.
       4. Click OK to confirm your selection.
       5. On your desktop, click Start => Settings => Printers.
       6. Right click on the required Dot Matrix printer and select 'Printing Preferences...'.
       7. Click the 'Paper/Quality' tab page and click the 'Advanced' pushbutton.
       8. Under'Paper/Output'=> 'Paper Size', click on the underlined paper size(e.g. A4) and select 'Letter' from the drop down menu.
Note that if you leave the value 'A4', each page will be spreaded over 2 pages when printing using Dot Matrix printers.
       1. Under 'Graphic'=> 'Print Quality', click on the underlined value (e.g. 230X250 dots per inch) and select '120X144 dots per inch' from thedrop down menu.
Note that in case the value '120X144' is not available you should select a similar value from the list.
After you do the stepwise, I am sure there will no problem any more. The slowly printing mostly caused by printer type and your hardware specifications for example your LAN, etc..
    good luck...

  • Dot Matrix Printer for OSX

What Dot Matrix printers are supported in OSX? Any OkiData's or Epsons? Thanks

No others included in OS X that I know of. I understand that problem with the included drivers (You find them under ESP instead of Epson) is that they don't reset correctly to the top of the form - so printing labels probably doesn't work. You should try it for yourself.

  • Detect the clients type of printer, either laser or dot matrix

Is there a way to obtain the clients printer whether it is laser-printer or a dot matrix?
I will appreciate any answers, sample programs, & suggestions. Thank you.

    Hi,
The ("Windows side" of an) Intel Mac would act in the same way a PC (without a built-in parallel or serial port) does. You would need an appropriate USB to (usually) parallel adapter. With the new hardware added, you would choose the printer in Windows. Printing is then possible from within a program running under Windows.
Normally, a dot matrix printer is used only for special purposes (e.g., for multiple copy forms). If this is not the case, there are alternatives. I can understand if you do not wish to use an inkjet printer, but a (black and white) laser printer would probably be a much better solution. Many laser printers (USB and/or network models) work with both Mac OS X and Windows.

i have a  question on printing using a crystal report. How do i print using epson continuous printer(dot matrix)? im having a problem printing to that type of printer specially using continuous paper. the first page is correct but unfortunately the succeeding pages are not. its automatically adjusted upon reaching the second page. hope you can help me.
thanks a lot and looking forward to hear from you soon.

Check with the printer manufacturer that the matrix printer is Unicode compliant. If it is not, it will  not work with Crystal Reports. If it is, make sure you have the latest printer driver updates.

Can anybody let me know wether any setting is to be done from SAP side .

    Dhaval..

    Hi Raje,
Try to take the print in inkjet or laserjet printer
    just for confirmation purpose .
if it prints in that and  doesn't print in dot matrix then the problem is with the dot matrix.
In that case ask the basis guys to install the relevent device driver for that dot matrix printer( as normally they would have installed some generic driver ).
    Hope this helps.

  • Print to Dot-Matrix-Printer

    Hi,
My actual job is to create an Report in Oracle Reports 10, running on an IBM AIX Unix Server and direct the output to an Dot-Matrix Printer.
The Report is ready for Preview.
What Parameter should be set as Report_DesFormat for that Dot-Matrix Printer?
I found only the list HTML, HTMLCSS, PDF, RTF, POSTSCRIPT, XML but the Printer can not unterstand any of these formats.
    Thanks for any help
    Rolf Mamat

    Hi.
Using one of graphical destination format can lead to unexpected results. What you should do is to configure your printer at the system OS level. Then you should include that printer into $ORACLE_HOME/guicommon/tk/admin/uiprint.txt file. The line you add to this file should be read as printer_name_you_specified_at_os_level:ASCII:1:some_comment:: For example :
    my_dot_printer:ASCII:Testing printer::
Be aware of two colons at the end of the line.
For a destination format you should use one of predefined formats (dflt, wide, ...) or you can make your own format file which should be stored in $ORACLE_HOME/reports/printers directory. And dont forget to define your report design in character units.
    Hope this answers your question.
    Best regards.
