DOT on 875p

recently i bought this board with the default 1.6 bios and DOT stickers on it(box and mobo). I've read some post in here that someone access the dot menu in the bios but seldom bec. it cannot be seen by default. To all the guys that have 875p mobo i want you to try this method cause i accessed it 3 times in a row.
1.Turn off the system completely for 10 mins or longer. (No power supplied to the mobo.)
2.after that hold down DEL before you turn on the pc. dont released it until the bios appears.
3.check out the frequency menu for the DOT options.
Just try this method cause it works for me. Just try it and pls comment on it. hope this helps... I do not gurantee that it will work for others too..

alas no success. im blaming either
a: older revision of mobo - no dot stickers!
or
b: the secret menu isnt avaialble with the 1.7 bios.. perhaps u need to keep pushing num lock or some other grouping of keys
ah well.. has anyone had success with this secret dot menu?

  • Can MSI add DOT to 875P Neo-FIS2R

    Hi! Those guys here!
Will DOT  be added to the 875P Neo-FIS2R  in the next bios???
I'm using the BIOS1.6 but I still couldn't find DOT!
I hope it will be in BIOS1.7.
I LOVE MSI   that's why I bought my board!

    P4 2.4C+875P Neo-FIS2R+GEIL DDR400 512MB+Winfast A310 Ultra
    THANKS :D  :D  :D

There are some threads stating that it's already in the Beta 1.74 BIOS but requires a specific version of CoreCell (which is indicated by a DOT sticker on the board/box)
There was also another thread saying that aside from this, it seems to depend on the processor installed - which I find puzzling  ?(

  • Northbridge temps

Can all the people OC'ing with NEO 865 or 875 please post their FSB speeds and north bridge temps.  CPU temps would be great also (please post your cooling system then).
    I'm at 250 FSB 56c under load 38c idle
North bridge is constant 65 C
    Sys temp at 25-27 C

One would think that after MANY MONTHS in the market, and HUNDREDS of mentions of HIGH NB TEMPS in this forum, someone would have bothered to mention it earlier - but NO.
Makes you wonder if MSI knows what they are doing.
    1. They have a perfectly good chip that can sense 3 fan inputs and control 2 outputs - but they don't bother to connect SFAN to it.
    2. Now they probably forgot to put a thermal diode for NB temp sensor.
    3. They claim to plan putting in DOT in 875P Neo, but where is it?
    4. They neglect to tie the HD LED to SATA drive activity.
    5. They do manage to put ridiculous voltage settings for bragging rights - Although these setting are guaranteed to fry your CPU, RAM or AGP card.
    6. They also put a control for AGP/PCI bus freq, even though it never really matches the setting.
What's next, MSI? Oops - we forgot to put some parts for real Prescott S-478 Support
    Thats a good resume.
When I first bought the board I was disappointed when I read here in the forums that SATA drives activity was not shown on the led. But then I only had PATA drives so I didn´t mind.
When I installed speedfan I was wondering why the fan 3 speed was 0 RPM. I thought it was faulty at first, but I checked it and it was running ok. Then I read here that there was no connection to monitor the speed. That was really annoying. Second, I wondered why NB temperature was so high and, again, searched here for answers. No one had a definitive answer to this.
And now... it is known, almost 100% sure, that they forgot to put a thermal diode?!?
It is sad... because this is not a bad board. I have been able to overclock my Pentium 4 2.4C up to 2.64 GHz with Kingston value ram at 1:1 ratio and up to 3 GHz with 5:4 ratio. Problems with memory, windows xp and other things are not only exclusive to this board, I have read several articles that tell about other brands like Asus and Abit having problems too.
I wouldn't mind about Prescott support iyongski. When it arrives, and when some time passes and prices drop to allow users like us buy one, I think it will be time for a new board. And end of story.

  • 875P Neo with new Corecell DOT???

I happened to see the new MSI875P NEO with a sticker with MSI new CoreCell chip with D.O.T (Dynamic Overclocking Technology).
Can this be done with the BIOS?

As the 875P Neo and the 865PE Neo2 are derived from almost the same design, I wouldn't be surprised if DOT comes to the 875P soon.
It was first implemented on 865PE and should be possible through a BIOS update as the major components were already in place - the CoreCell chip and the freq & voltage adjustment settings.
I wish MSI would drop the corny military ranks though and use a better technical analogy.
Also, I think the voltage ranges they provide for Vcore, Vagp and Vmem are ridiculously extreme on one end, so maybe they should consider moving the ranges
Also, fix those temperature readings for System and NB.
But most importantly, give the option to fix the AGP/PCI clock!

  • [875P] DOT PAT settings interaction

I'm new to this board (and the 875P Neo) and have a question.
I've been trying to figure out how the DOT and PAT settings relate. I've searched the board for a bit and see bits and pieces of information but nothing with an overall explaination. I assumed from the lack of documentation from MSI they let the user figure for himself so they can't get into trouble when someone fry's a board/CPU.
If there is a post somewhere that goes over this I would appreciate a lead.
I can't set performance past Slow if DOT is set a Private for example. If I set performance to Fast, it gives an error "DRAM timimg too tightly" (Nice translation!) and resets to Slow. DRAM is currently locked at SPD settings. I figure the DRAM settings have to change but before I go there I'd like to understand things better. I also see from other posts the PC3200 DRAM I have may limit what I can do.
    Thanks

smperfmgr ---> try setting your fsb to 201 (seems funny but its a magic number for all our 875/865 mobos if you've read through the forums).
ForceOfN4ture ---> with the rest of the "overclocking" options but only some 875/865 mobos have it. i personally dont have DOT but people with never revisions of the 875 neo fs2r do.

  • Is the 875P Neo-FIS2R a bad mb?

    Like the title says:
Is the 875P Neo-FIS2R a bad motherboad? I can understand that tis is a place where you will find more problems then anything else. But I mostly see motherboard specific problems, that occur on many mb's of the same type. I find that a bit disturbing...
A friend of mine never had any troubles with it, then again, he might not tell me, or he is lucky. But based on his 'good' experience I have a 875P lying here right now.
I cannot use it yet since I am missing a graphic card to go with it, I expect that to arrive next Tuesday. Im a bit nervous now.....
Another question while I'm at it: will both controllers (the Intel and the Promise) work, or are the mutual exclusive. So I guess I mean is: do I have 3 P-ATA connectors on my mb or either 2 or 1??
If it is the latter option, that would be lame, then I would have to insert my PCI card with a pomise controller....

I have to say the 875P is definitely NOT a bad motherboard as long as you have approved components. It works very well for "standard" usage. It has all of the top features from Intel - 875P chipset, 10Gbit CSA, ICH5R, ADI audio, firewire, etc.
I am concerned with some things MSI could/should have done better in the first place:
    1. Wrong NB temp (and it seems to be affected by NBFAN)
    2. No SFAN speed monitoring though it wouldn't have cost more to put it in ... X(
    3. Slow frequency of BIOS release or update fixes vs other "top tier" motherboard manufacturers
    4. More issues than others with popular memory modules
    5. Confusing or "poorly documented" BIOS features/interface leave tweakers less in control
    6. Corecell, DOT & MAT, BIOS are still a work in progress
When you start looking for topnotch performance and stability via tweaking OR major overclocking - that is where it falls short - contrary to what their marketing says.
Read this thread  where an 875P owner compares his new Asus P4C800E Deluxe (after his 875P Neo failed and had to go for RMA). I summarize his "review" here:
    Quote
Criteria on MSI 875P Neo-FIS2R vs ASUS P4C800E DeLuxe
    Ease in setting up P4C800E
    Memory compatibility P4C800E
    Overclocking
    - setting options Neo
    - higher performance P4C800E
    - lower temperatures P4C800E
    - lower voltages P4C800E
    Video card compatibility Neo
    Hard drive performance Same
Benchmark scores Est. 5% better on Asus vs MSI
    Extra Goodies:
ASUS - ability to use USB ARMD devices and emulate them as floppies, HDD, and even CD-ROM
MSI - AUTO overclocking (Captain, etc. on the Neo boards - 5%, 10% etc on the Asus boards) works much better
    quote:
... the Asus is much less of a problem child when setting up. So my final ruling is, don't expect much more from the ASUS board, but if you are fed up with your 875P Neo, or are returning/RMA-ing your board anyway, you might be pleasantly surprised with what the ASUS P4C800/E/Deluxe can do for you.
I think you'll find similiar comparisons from 865PE Neo2 users who had tried the P4P800...
So far many have said they're still keeping their MSI boards when RMA comes back
    Conclusions:
    - Good HW but FW/SW satsifactory~needs_improvement.  :]
    - If you don't do major tweaking , and want stability + full features, the 875P is a GOOD board overall, IMHO.  8)

  • FX5900XT - Lines & Dots when booting up!

    Hello everyone,
I just recently purchased the FX5900 XT graphics card and it's driving me crazy.  When the machine boots up (before windows), vertical lines or dots will appear on the screen and the system will freeze or reboot when it reaches the windows logon screen (if even!).
I noticed that if I unplug the power supply on the graphics card, the problem disappears even though the driver will warn me of insufficient power.
I have tried using the MSI 56.63 driver and the nvidia reference 56.72 driver - though since the problem occurs before windows loads, I figure it's probably something else that's the culprit.  Also updated my motherboard to the latest driver as well.
I used to have an athlon cpu with an abit motherboard, but upgraded them to the current setup when the graphics card didn't work.  I also upgraded the powersupply to 550W after reading the articles here about insufficient power.
Now, I'm not sure if it's a defective video card, or maybe it's my RAM (since it's only 266), or just my setup that's causing the problem.  If anyone has any ideas, please let me know!
    Thanks in advance!

I am having same problem with my system verital lines and pixeled dots on bois post then nothing I have rma'd 4 ms 6758-040 and 2 ms 8948-040 (875P NEO FIS2R and Gforce FX 5700)  the previous video card had bios issue form the msi live update it was a msi Gforce4 TI 4800.  When it was rma'd they had stopped making the TI 4800 so the "comparable" replacement was a ti 4600(not a good card)  this is when i first started seeing lines and dots on bios post.  have updated the bois, replaced the power supply (which burned out for some unkown reason), replaced the ram and tried 4 mobo and 3 video cards.  the only thing left is the hard drives and the dvd play and burner.   So far I am lost on what to do next.  I wonder if MSI had a bad set of chipsets when they made these video cards and motherboards.   does anyone have any solutions to this problem other than maybe switching back to asus, amd and pny gforce?

  • Problems with booting the 875P

    Hi guys!
Probably somebody already got a solution for this problem and can share information ...
My sys specs are P4 2,66 GHz FSB 533 and the 875P Neo Board, rest is standard. Today I tried to change the processor ... a new P4 2,8 HT instead of the old one. The problem is: After changing the processor, the PC won't boot and I get no video signal. The dot's on the back indicate :
    R R
    G R
According to the manual this is the Keyboard Initialization, which I can't believe ... after switching back to the old processor, everything went fine and the PC booted perfectly. According to normal procedures I've updated the BIOS to 1.8 and looked through the settings again, but everything seemed to be fine. To even exclude that this maybe a processor malfunction I tried it on another mainboard ... there it worked fine, but only at half speed (probably because it's a basic 845 chipset).
    If somebody could help ...

  • 875P NEO and NorthBridge Cooling

Does anybody tried to use 875P with some good noiseless cooler on the NorthBridge ? (ex: Zalman ZM-NB47J)
At this moment with the 1.6 bios and with the original cooler the Motherboard temperature is around 53C which is pretty much. (the rpm of te fan is around 6000...)
Please give me some good advice, or share your experiences!
(Please do not come up with water cooling because I will not do that!)

Hey, I just bought a passive ZANB47J for my msi 875p chipset, cause the chipset fan got noisy and it didn't work ok, the system runs fine without the fan, but since i bought the zalman, i have to test it, so i did a clip similar to msi heatsink clip (the board don't have holes for the nb47j), but my question is.............
if you see the chipset, it has a square at it's center and some pins?(dots?) all over it. The bottom of the msi heatsink has a pad that covers some of those pins?(dots?), can i use my zalman nb47j without that pad, is there a problem if those pins?(dots?) touches the sarface of the heatsink? I think that there is not a problem, but if anyone can share an opinion, i would be very grateful

  • What is 875P latest hardware revision ?

I am having a hard time trying to figure out what is the latest hardware revision for the 875P mobo. I have been told 1.0 but I suspect there is a later Rev.
Also, I saw someone referring to an A2 rev. on their board.
Where EXACTLY would this A2 be written ? What does it stand for ?
I know the Rev. 1.0 is written by the AGP slot but what about the A2 ? If anyone could post a jpg with the area where A2 should be listed, circled,it would be great !
Furthermore, is there any such thing as an 875PE Neo2 motherboard ?
A google search for 875PE Neo2 turns out a bunch of motherboards listed as such but then I check BOTH MSI web site in USA and Taiwan and only read about 875P Neo series. No PE and no Neo2.
I know there is an 865 Neo and 865 Neo2 but what about 875 ??
Anyone got a clue what the most updated situation with this board is ?
Also, the DOT and PAT are available for the 875P Neo ?
How would one know by looking at the motherboard that they have support them ?
By the way, what is the difference between Neo and Neo2 ?
Thanks a lot for all info !

Raven1, let me get this 100% clear, you can actually read with your own eyes by the side of the AGP slot that it is written in white text Rev. 1.1 ???
Can you please write for us the whole line that you can read there ? Thanks !
Can you please also tell us WHEN you received this Rev. 1.1 (MS-6758) 875P Neo Fis2R motherbiard (trying to figure out when Rev. 1.1 became available) ? Thanks !!
Anyone kinows what hardware Rev. 1.1 has that Rev. 1.0 does not ?

  • Did you buy an 875P mo-bo recently ? What BIOS did it come with ?

Hi, if you bought in the past 2 weeks or so a new 875P Neo FIS2R motherboard, could you please tell us what BIOS did it come out of factory with and where you bought it (what country) ?
    Thanks !
P.S. Anyone knows if there is anything different (hardwarewise) between the 875P Neo FIS2R motherboards coming out of Factor now (I'd assume with BIOS 1.8) and those who were made last June coming out of Factory with BIOS 1.6 ?
That is, in these past 5 months since last June did MSI make any hardware changes whatsoever to this motherboards ?

I think in commercial mind you try to sell a maximum of your old product to purge your stock of marchandise before nobody don't want it anymore and or waiting for new product and we don't know if they still produce it !!!! (hardware) we know only that they working for the software bios 1.9 (a lot of people waiting for it and going to be perfect if we must wait so long)
make too much difference in same product is no good
and why change something working (hardware) only processor attach or some componant a little more stronger because of some failure of them
i can compare my two "version" 05.2003 and 11.2003 (date when get it)
first one with 1.2 bios upgrade to 1.3;1.5;1.6;1.7(most stable and perform); 1.8 (lower perform because of pat disable and no way to enable it)
then few days ago computer was just "on" and waiting don't have any prog running
i was looking away and come back i surprise that the computer was off and no more be able to get on try everthing psu ;cmos reset;... got back to my reseller and himself can't find anything  won't boot anymore
when i testing or checking p4 i see the attach begin to brooking
second one with the new attach p4 we see it's more strong
put a bios version 1.6 because the different older version was making too much problem of overheat of processor,nb and other thinks  and most stable also
get a board with 1.6 bios is not a problem, this is software you can upgrade it
have also the famous DOT option in bios (i don't use it yet)
in my config the most stable and good perform is 1.7 bios

  • MSI 875P "NEW" Version 2?

    Hi
Like most users who are using this board, I have the MSI 875P Neo FIS2R and it states on the motherboard that it's v1.0 but when you use Live Monitor, under Utility/MSI Core Center/notes/3, it states:
    Support MS-6728 v2.0, MS-6758 v2.0, MS-7008, MS-7021 and MS-6580 v5.0.
Notice it shows "MS-6758 v2.0"...... can MODS shed any light on this?
Has this version 2 been released yet and if so, does it resolve such issues as the HDD LED not working when drives are connected to IDE3 or to any of the S-ATA ports and does it have DOT?
I believe that the HDD LED not working is "hardware issue" which MSI forgot to include and this is a great source of annoyance to many users of this board, including me because I like to see what the drive is doing so I would like to see it working.  Maybe many of us should have waited a while until the problems were sorted out before buying the board but I like the 875P and would by v2.0 if and when it's released but how would you know if you were buying another v1.0?

  • Can't overclock ! 875P Neo

    Hi,
    I just got a 875P Neo with a P4 2.4c ( FSB 800 ) and Corsair TwinX 3200 RAMs, and I can't get anything higher than a 15 mhz increase in FSB - 2.6 is the most I can get.
Increasing the CPU voltage to 1.7 and ram to 2.8 allowed me to boot with 222 FSB, but that's as far as I can go - the system hangs up.
    Temperatures are at about 40C.
I'm stumped. I thought this board is good at overclocking.
BTW, I cannot find DOT and PAT settings. I thought 875's have PAT ?
    Thanks for any advice.

    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/e_service/forum/index.php?threadid=27973&boardid=10
Some guy in here removed his ATI vid card and it worked after that...
Anyway, I didn't read the entire thread, it might offer you the solution you need?
please do not edit if you are asking a new question and aren't the last post in the thread, just make a new reply/thread ???  anyway, I'm not a mod here so it isn't really my business....
I believe dot is not in the bios yet, so you wouldn't be able to find that anyway, but I read here it will be available in the future. I do not know what PAT is...yet

    As advised:
    875P Neo MS-6758 BIOS V1.9 Beta 3 (1.93) dated 2003/10/02
This BIOS fixes the following problems of the previous version:
    - update microcodes,
    - modify HT support,
    - Prescott support,
    - fixed ICH5 SATA HDD incompatibilities issue,
    - remove chinese language support
The promised DOT option still isn't available in BIOS setup!
Note some of the changes from the previous 1.82 Beta were not put in the 1.80 Release ... so which new fixes go in the final release (and when) is still uncertain.

  • ICal: Instead of colored dots, can every event's headline be displayed in color accordingly?

Before the upgrade, every events is displayed in colour accordingly, with All-Day-Event highlighted.
After the upgrade, only the "All-day event" is highlighed in clour. But the headline/subject of everything else (from every calendars) is displayed in dark grey with a small colored dots.
For example, It's too difficult to spot my important work meetings (in blue) from the rest of the non-important personal events (in purple).
those blue dots looks very close to purple dots. This really is making my calendar looking confusing.

Mavericks applies color to events only in day and week views. Before events in month view had a color corresponding to the specific calendar it was in (appointments, school, etc). Only all-day events now are highlighted in color. This is a step backward. I hope that Apple updates iCal to bring back the highlighting of all calendar events in all views.
