Dot1q Trunk between Catalyst 6500 and HP Blade Enclosures

We have a requirement to configure trunks to a 6500 and HP GbE2 interconnect switch in a blade enclosure.
The interconnect switches and the 6500 are connected as in the attachment.
The configuration was done using the documentation provided by HP for connecting these trunks to the 6500, but there seems to be some problem with STP.
All the network remains stable for a time and then falls over, traffic counts on the trunk interfaces shoots up to crazy values.
The access layer (consisting of 2950s) hanging off the 6500 also falls over and the interfaces on the trunks become err-disabled. This happens eventhough we are not trunking the 102-108 vlans that are trunked to the HP switches to these switches.
We need to run dot1q trunks to the HP blade switches, because of the requirement to have the servers within the blade enclosure in different VLANS. The vlans were configured as per the document provided by HP and the server ports assigned accordingly.
Has anyone managed to configure etherchannel trunks (dot1q) to HP blade switches? Any guidelines and findings will help

  • Sip trunk between CUCM7.0 and third party VOIP provider

    Hi all,
I'm looking for a solution/howto configuration for setting up a SIP trunk between CUCM7.0 and a SIP-VoIP provider.
Got SIP username, password and SIP-proxy IP from the provider.
I've done such a setup on CUCME a couple of times, but never on the CUCM.
Who can put me on right way?
Can it be done on the CUCM, or must an IOS-Device be used (got a PSTN-GW connected through H323 with CUCM)?
    THanks for the hint,

  • Cross switch etherchannel config between two 6500 and 3750

    Dear All,
I would like to design the network and got some problem, my network have one 3750 and two 6500, I would like to setup the etherchannel from 3750 (total two uplink port together), one link to the first 6500 and the other link to second 6500, one trunk between 6500 for redundance.
I tried to use PAgP (auto/desirable, on/on), but the channel misconfig error occurred, the etherchannel keep in suspected or standalone state.
Anybody can suggest/recommend some method for this case.
    Thanks

Unfortunately, you cannot create an etherchannel from one device to two different devices. for example, from 3750 you have gig 1/0/1 and gig 1/0/2. gig 1/0/1 of 3750 connects to port 1/1 of switch A and gig 1/0/2 of that same 3750 connects to port 1/2 of switch B. You can NOT create an etherchannel on 3750 to combine gig 1/0/1 and gig 1/0/2 to create a bigger pipe. That is not how etherchannel is designed to do.
However, if you have gig 1/0/1 and gig 1/0/2 on 3750 connecting to port 1/1 and 1/2 of switch A, you can create a channel on bith devices to create a bigger pipe (4 GBPS @ full duplex) and let's say that on that same 3750, you have an additional gig 1/0/3 and gig 1/0/4 that connects to ports 1/1 and 1/2 of switch B, you can create another separate channel that combines gig 1/0/3 and gig 1/0/4 and switch B's port 1/1 and 1/2, this scenarion is totally acceptable.
I hope that helps clear up channeling.
In your described scenario, channeling is not what you are asking, it's STP and you really do not need to do anything as STP is enabled by default, maybe you just need to make sure that the root is where you wnat it to be and that is configureable. With your looped physical topology, STP will prevent loop from forming and will give you the redundancy you seek as when one link fails, the ones blocked by STP would go forwarding once STP detects that it should forward that port.

  • Catalyst 6500 and IPS

I have a catalyst 6500 switch on my network and I know it supports an IDS module. What I am not sure is an IPS.
Could somebody who knows be kind enough to tell me if there is the support of IPS in the Catalyst 6500 switch.

The IDSM-2 module is capable of both IDS (promiscuous mode) AND IPS (inline mode).
So if you need IPS (inline mode) you still just buy the same IDSM-2 but configure it for InLine Interface Pair or InLine Vlan Pair mode instead of configuring for Promiscuous mode.

  • Trunking between a router and a switch

i used the topology and the configuration described on the pictures included on this post.. but the problem that the ping failed between the switch and the router

The router config might not have been captured correctly coz it would not allow you to configure the subinterface with no vlan id after the encapsulation. But you can try this, define the native vlan 1 on the router's subtinterface for subnet 172.16.1.0/24. Also, what address of the router are you pinging from the switch?

  • Difference between BT 6500 and BT6510

    Hello,
We need some new phones at home, and i came across 2 which I thought were decent. BT 6500 and BT 6510, but apaet from the way it looks, I cannot see the difference in it. So just wanted to ask is there any major differences in them?
Also, any other recommendations on handsets? I have noticed that you can only register upto 5 handsets on these I wanted to register more but oh well.
    Thanks in advance.

I can't answer the first question.
Do you already have another set of working Dect phones and do you have any extension sockets.
I run 2 sets of Dect phones on my line, one base is plugged into the master socket and the base of the other is plugged into an extension socket, all phones  work fine.  (I know stupid me should have bought a quad set) but it works, and they all ring.

  • Trunking between Huawei S3900 and Cisco catalyst 3750

One of my edge Huawei S3700  switches  is dead, I am going to replace it with a Cisco switch Catalyst 3750 series PoE-48 via a trunk link  with GE fiber port on both ends, please see the diagram below.
                                      trunk                     trunk
       Core switchrouter<----------S3700<--------------->Cisco Catlyst 3750
I haven’t touch Cisco switch for many years, I would like to ask the following questions:
1.)      Do I need to take any precaution before connecting this Cisco switch into my Huawei network? Only one link between S3700 and C3750, so I don't need worry anout STP? Do I need to worry about Default vlan regarding trunking port?
2.)      I need to use different trucking protocol e.g. 802.1Q etc to interconnect these two switches (S3700-28TP-SI-AC and Catalyst 3750), please see the following configuration:
    For C3750:
    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport trunk native vlan (What you want)
switchport trunk allowed vlan (VLANs required)
    switchport mode trunk
    spanning-tree portfast trunk
    For S3700:
     port link-type trunk
     port trunk permit vlan all
Do you think the configurations above are right?
Do I need to manually enter Duplex and speed options ?
3.)If the configurations are not right, then what are the commands for trucking port/link should I use on the Cisco switch (it uses IOS software) and Huawei switch?  Procedures of the commands would be really helpful !
Any information and help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Regards

    Hello
     3750 - basic config
     ================
See as you are using this switch as an host switch you need to make sure ip routing isn't enabled ( it isn't by default)
Also it looks like the s3700 Huawei switch is permitting all vlans and I assuming the default native vlan is 1 ( as is cisco) so no need to specify the native either.
If you are requiring the access ports on this new cisco 3750 to be in multiple vlans then usually cisco to cisco interconnect would ultise VTP for vlan propagation however this wont occur between the Huawei switch, so you will need to manually add the vlans on the switch also.
so to summarize below is a basic host switch config for 3750.
    conf t

ip default-gateway x.x.x.x ( ip address of CORE SVI management interface)

  • InterVlan Trunking between Catalyst 500 Express and Router 1841

    Hello,
I am currently attempting to configure 2 VLANs on a Router 1841 and allow them to communication with my Catalyst 500 Express switch. The Router Setup is simple
    its 3 Sub-ints on the FE0/0 interface.
    interface FastEthernet0/0
    description $ETH-LAN$$ETH-SW-LAUNCH$$INTF-INFO-FE 0$
    no ip address

    encapsulation dot1Q 3
    ip address 10.19.3.1 255.255.255.0
    ip helper-address 10.19.2.2
FE 0/0 Port on the Router is connected to port 24 on my Catalyst. I set the Smartport on port 24 of the Catalyst to be Router for trunking purposes
I get a notification error on the Catalyst saying "Undersized frames detected from the connected device" (which is my ROUTER).
does anyone have a suggestion? Or Is it supported this scenario?
    Thanks,
    Eduardo

I had the same issue when I was working on CE500s and a WLC.
In the CE500 Device Manager, go to Configure->VLANs
Create your VLAN 2 and 3.
Then go back to smartports, click customize, and verify that VLAN-1 is default (native).
Sending information through a port on the CE500 that it is not expecting will set alerts in the log.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to make optical connectivity between Catalyst 4948 and 10K router ?

    Hi,
I am Ratheesh P D, network Manager of one project in Motorola. We have one catalyst 4948. Its going to get one 10K router. Our requirement needs optical connection between these two. The document of 4948 says, its compatible with 1000BaseX SFP and 10K is with 1000BaseSX SFP. Could you please tell me how to make these two compatible?

For information regarding the optical connectivity in 4948 cat switch follow the url ,

  • Cannot Establish Gigabit Link Between Catalyst Switches and GSR Router

The GSR Gigabit interface is configured for no negotiation auto and the line protocol goes up when connected to the Catalyst switch.
The Catalyst switch port remains unconnected even when it is physically attached to the GSR router.

The flow control settings must match on both sides for the link to come up. It is highly recommended that you configure auto-negotiation to on for both devices. (Auto-negotiation is enabled by default on all Catalyst switches.) Otherwise, if you have a layer 1 problem, the link remains up and a unidirectional link will result.
The initial software releases that support Gigabit Ethernet on the GSR router do not support gigabit auto-negotiation.
The following command configures gigabit auto-negotiation on the Catalyst 6000/6500:
    set port negotiation module/port disable|enable

  • Do I need IOS firewall feature set on Catalyst 6500 for FW blade?

    Hi all,
If I install a FW blade in Cat6500, should I need to have the IOS firewall feature set on Cat6500 itself?
    Thanks and Regards,
    mak

    Nope.
The FWSM uses it's own OS based on PIX OS. While it uses SVIs configured in the MSFC, it otherwise runs autonomously from the Sup and MSFC, even in Native mode.

  • Fast EtherChannel between Catalyst 3750 and 2821 Router

    Hi Guys
I'm trying to setup a Fast EtherChannel between a cat3750-smi and a 2821 router that consists of only 2 links.
    I am following instructions per TAC, but I'm getting an error along the way;
    On the cat3750:
    interface port-channel 1
    no switchport
Command Rejected: Not a convertable port
    Can anyone help???
Also... do the IP Addresses for the EtherChannel need to be the same for both port-channels? Or do I assign the switch like 192.168.1.1 and the router 192.168.1.2 ?
    Thanks!
    Adam

    Hi Adam,
The ip address cannot be same but it should belong to same subnet. So one side 192.168.1.1 and other side 192.168.1.2 will work fine.
Its better to convert your layer 2 port as a layer port fist so what you do the port which you want to be port channel go that that interface and convert with "switchport" command
once it is a layer 3 port configure with channel group and automatically layer 3 port channel will be created and you can sssign an ip address then.
Just give a try and update if it works.
    Regards,
    Ankur
