DotMac Translator using 90% of CPU? ? ? ?

Help - in the past several days, I have noticed that an application named "DotMac Translator" is constantly using 75 to 90% + of my CPU capacity.
I'm using a PowerMac with a single 1.8 Ghz PPC chip, and 1.5 GB ram. I have not noticed the same problem on my Mac Mini or iMac G5 (all connected to the same .Mac account)
BUT, on my PowerMac, The CPU meter on "Activity Monitor" stays Pegged out at 100%, and everything on the machine has slowed to a snail's pace.
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?
I also use MS Entourage, and recently I have noticed an application bombing frequently - a sync program that supposed to sync Entourage with Address Book and iCal.
Any help would be Appreciated!!!

Parallels messes with the Dock, there has been problems with it before when 10.6.7 was updated to 10.6.8.
Did you uninstall it properly using their uninstaller?
Do a Finder > Go > Go to Folder and paste this line and press Go!
~/Library/Preferences
scroll down until you see a file like
com.apple.dock.plist
and place it in the Trash (might be two of them, move the one you can)
Reboot the computer and see if that works.
Next try the same with (but don't Trash it), just move it out and see if it's recreated after a reboot.
com.apple.dock.db
If that fails (put the file back where it goes) then
run the #12 and #13 OnyX routines here
Step by Step to fix your Mac
Lastly check with Parallels as they likely have seen this problem many times on their forums.

  • DotMac Translator 100% CPU usage

During the last few weeks I have a process called dotMac translator running and it's taking 100% CPU usage, I can kill the process off but it just comes back after about 10 minutes.
Does anybody have any ideas on what's causing this and how to fix it.
    Thanks
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

run the 'top' utility and see what the processes are. You will certainly see some oracle procs in the list. can you post back the output here so we can review it?
Also run the command vmstat 10 130 whilst the cpu is at 100% and post back.

Apple mobile device service uses too much cpu time, from 88% to 99% of the CPU time.

The best way to fix this is to completely remove all aspects of iTunes then reinstall. Step by step directions are on this article. Good luck

  • Why can't I make Lightroom use all the CPU-Power (all cores) available for generating Previews?

    Dear Lightroom Team,
I've been a Lightroom user since the very first Beta, and I am truly happy with the work you deliver. It changed my way of editing forever, and you guys keep improving it.
Yet there is that one question that bothers me, and that i'm looking for an answer for.
My Workflow has the generate Previews checkbox checked by standard. I usually import between 150 and 2000 photos at once, on occaions it can be up to 5000 photos. Generating Previews always takes a significant amount of time, and Lightroom is only using 25% of my CPU Power while doing so. (using a MacBook Pro 8,2)
I understand the concept, that only using 25% CPU enables me to use the computer while waiting for the Previews. But most of the time I just grab myself a cup of coffee, do the dishes or other stuff, while waiting for the Previews. Usually I rund out of things to do, because it takes ages to Process all the photos. So I would really love to make Lightroom use ALL the cpu power possible.
I'm sure you guys have spent a lot of thoughts while coding this and have a very good answer handy. Looking forward reading it!
    all the best,
    Wolfgang

This is prmarily a user-to-user forum. The Adobe staff monitored site is here:

On my four-year old Windows 7 i7-860 system LR4.4.1 takes ~0.5 sec. per Canon 5D MKII 21Mp raw image to render 'Standard-Sized' previews with LR Catalog Settings 'Standard Preview Size' set to '2048' pixels. I consider that pretty fast!
I usually build 1:1 full-size previews on import, which takes ~5.0 sec. per image. Processor utilization varies between 15-50% for Standard-Sized previews and 15-65% for 1:1 previews. I consider this pretty slow, but it doesn't stop me from working on the images inside LR's Library and Develop modules.
I wait until 'Copy and import photos' has completed and can see Preview Building has started. LR doesn't slow-down much even with the 1:1 preview building going on in the background. Have you tried working in LR during the preview building (i.e. sorting,  rating, keywording, and Develop adjustments)?

  • Color using only one CPU?

When rendering with Color it seams that it using only one CPU, according to "top".
Is it possible to make use of all CPUs?

Color's work is done on the GPU not the CPU, so unfortunately, the answer to your question is, no.

  • I cannot watch Flash vids because Firefox uses too much CPU.

Firefox has become untenable because it uses too much CPU and disrupts Flash videos.
I've tried disabling or changing the values of plugins. Installing older versions. Nothing helps. It just sucks. It makes me want to pull someone's lungs out.

Everyone has this problem, since Firefox rigged one of its Plug-ins (something to do with crash reports) about 06 months ago, to max out CPU, thereby sabotaging computer performance (including Flash videos).
Why or how they haven't fixed it before now strains belief. I have seen the same complaint everywhere. It is a major fuck-up. People want to abandon Firefox in droves, except that none of the other browsers have decent add-ons like pop-up blocker.
    Sort it out, Firefox.

  • Logic 8 using only one CPU while bouncing

Whenever I bounce a project, Logic 8 uses only one CPU. It also spikes this CPU completely, with the CPU meter going into the red area, which is why I am rather keen on persuading Logic to distribute the load.
    Any ideas?
(I've given the support document with tips on how to balance multi-core performance a good read, but it doesn't seem to say anything on this particular subject, and following the advice in the document does nothing to change my CPU load.)

Bouncing is a single core process. Just like rendering is in Final Cut Pro. This won't change until Leopard and Apple's ProApps get better at handling multiple cores.
It's redlining because the processor core is working as fast as it can. Computer processors don't just randomly run slower, they use their resources for the tasks at hand. If it only used 50% of a core, the bounce would take twice as long to process.

  • (Can't Be Solved) Flash uses too much CPU

    Hello all,
In the process of setting up my first Arch system, I currently experiment with OpenBox, and have tried using Flash (flashplugin) under Chromium, both latest version from the repos.
I tried watching a 720P video on youtube (Big Buck Bunny), but it was a complete failure.
After some searching, I disabled hardware decoding using
    /etc/adobe/mms.cfg
Next, I completely disabled the Laptop Mode Tools daemon to make sure no powersaving was in play (and rebooted of course).
I also set the CPU governor to "performance" (though using cpupower, the CPU does scale to maximum under "ondemand").
All of the above did not help - CPU usage still reach ~80% when playing the 720P video unmaximized (and no dropped frames), and I get lots of dropped frames when going full screen.
Is it really what I can expect from flashplugin under Arch or have I missed something (hopefully)?
My CPU is Core 2 Duo P8600 which is more than capable of handling such videos (for reference only, software decoding of the same video under Windows 7 hover around 30% CPU usage (also Chromium and Flash, different Chromium version)).
    Thanks, Adam.

    OK, back from Ubuntu.
Did a fresh Ubuntu 12.04 LTS installation, and just installed Chromium and Flash from the software center.
Chromium version is 18.0.1025.151 (Arch has 19.0.1084.52).
Flash version is 11.2 r202 (Arch has 11.2.202.235, which I suppose is the same).
Also tried built-in Firefox and using proprietary drivers (still pure software decoding and rendering).
Under all scenarios, behavior was the same as in Arch - ridiculously high CPU usage comparing to Windows.
I guess Flash under Linux really is THAT bad, perhaps this new "chrome-only" flash will behave better (and will most definitely kept up-to-date in the AUR or so).
(I've already tried the currently available pepper flash from the AUR, with no better results).
Can't see much more that can be done in regards to direct flash rendering, really annoying.
Might try some sort of flash-video-automatic-replacement-with-vlc-or-something-like-that.
    Adam.
    PS.
My 20 minutes with Ubuntu were enough - Arch is definitely the way to go, even for a pretty green Linux user such as myself (have some background, though).

  • "AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin" uses too much CPU. How to replace it with Preview?

The AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin uses over 250% CPU when I open a dozen of pdf files from the Internet in Safari 7.0.2. The Adobe Read is 10.1.9 as seen from Safari > Preferences > Security > Internet Plug-in > Manage Website Settings > Adobe Reader.
Can I replace the Adobe Reader Internet Plug-in with Preview or anything else using less CPU?  (But it's too time consuming to downlog the pdf files and open thme using other tools e.g. iBook, Preview etc.)
    Or any solution at all?

Most PDF documents can be read using the built-in support of OS X & Safari. If you remove the adobe or other pdf plug-in files from HD/Library/Internet Plug ins while any web browsers are closed, then Safari should display them.

    what should I do?

    Hello,
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    * [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
    * [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

  • Translation using foreign currency units per dollar

We are currently using the built-in HFM translation mechanism for most of our accounts, i.e., we enter currency rates in dollars per foreign currency unit for both a balance sheet rates and a P&L rate and allow HFM to translate. Is it possible to use the default translation to translate using inverted rates, i.e., foreign currency units per dollar? This would imply, of course, that the rate would be divided into the entity currency amount instead of multiplied.
I realize that we could do this via translation rules for all of those accounts, but I'd prefer to use the default mechanism, if possible.

    Sofia,
I don't recall the reason for having exhange rates use different options in the intercompany transaction module (ICT). I was part of the team which designed this module back in 2004/2005, and I suspect this was simply a request by someone at the time to allow exchange rates used in matching intercompany transaction matching to be entered either as a divide or as a multiply. This feature applies only to IC transactions, and has no effect at all on the core functionality of HFM, which uses only a multiply approach. Once intercompanty transactions are matched within the ICT module, the remaining, umatched balances each period are posted to the relevent HFM accounts. In many ways this is like using line item details for intercompany balances, but better since HFM can match at the "line item" level.
    To be very clear:
    1) ICT: intercompany transaction module. This is a module within HFM that allows invoice/transaction level records to be loaded into HFM and matched based on a series of flexible criteria. This is covered in detail in Chapter 13 of the HFM Administrator Guide.
    2) ICP: intercompany partner. This is a dimension within HFM that leverages the Entity dimension, where period end balances for/from each entity's partner is loaded into HFM. Intercompany eliminations are performed according to either HFM's default rules, if you use Consolidation Rules = "N" or "R", or according to your own rules if Consolidation Rules = "Y" and you have provided your own Sub Consolidate routine.
The ICT module, though feature rich, is not widely used. On the other hand the ICP dimension is used in a majority of HFM applications worldwide.
I hope this helps clarify the questions.

  • Dock uses lots of CPU time

I find Dock uses ~140% CPU time sometimes, I can't see a cause for it to do so. It usually stops of its own accord after a random amount of time. Killing it doesn't help, launchd restarts it and it goes back to using lots of CPU.
I have parallels install and I have the version which has the fix (6.0.12106) and I have also tried the work around (no luck obviously).

Never mind, I figured it out by myself. On this particular machine I had a 3rd party plug-in installed (SRS iWow 1.1.8). Removing that brought the CPU usage down to 0.1%. Usually I don't install 3rd party add-ons. This would seem to be a good policy.

  • Media Encoder slow, using 100% of CPU

    Hello,
I have been having a problem exporting out of Premier. I am trying to Export an FLV from an HDV timeline (1440 x 1080). My computer specs are as follows; Intel Core i7 930 @2.8ghz, Win 7 64 bit, 8 gb of RAM and a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470. The problem is that the encoder says it will take 30+hrs to encode a FLV from a timeline which is only an hr in length. We checked the processes and the encoder is using 100% of the CPU and PProHeadless.exe is using almost 2gb of RAM but it is also competeing with the encoder for processing power. Does anybody know why the encoder is using so much CPU power or what steps I should take to get this export time back to a relatively normal range?

I am assuming that the material is full HDV, and that your Project's Preset matches 100%. Is that correct?
What are the specs. of your system's I/O, i.e. your HDD's. The more detail, the better.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
