Dots on screen

I have an Intel iMac 21 inch bought new in Feb 2010 and have started noticing small dots appearing on the screen like dead pixels but only when I use quick look on a video or image or when playing video back in iTunes or on You Tube. They kind of sparkle across the screen like interference.
Has anyone else had this problem? Should I take it back to Apple? Its just past its 12 month warrenty so i'm hoping its not expensive!

I found that pixels can either be stuck or dead..If your pixels show color then they are stuck..if not they are dead.
Also I found out that Apple's policy states that there have to be some amount of dead pixels(more than one) on the screen so you can have a replacement-but since your 1 year warranty has expired I have no idea if they are going to accept a free of charge replacement. The best thing you have to do is take it to Apple..
First of all though try out this app..maybe it will help:

  • White dots on screen of my 65HM167 - DLP TV

    I have 4 to 5 years old Toshiba 65HM167 - DLP Projection TV.(Serial # 35135210).
Recently I see few white dots on screen.
Can Toshiba change the faulty chip and fix this problem ?

Good luck with that.  We called and they told us to call a repair center and have it fixed.  With this many posts, it's obviously a defective chip - but Toshiba won't admit that and fix it.....

  • Green and purple dots on screen (fixed!)

So I had green and purple dots all over the screen of my iMac (10.5.6, intel 24"). The dots would disappear briefly when windows were dragged over them. Green dots appeared on black backgrounds and purple dots appeared on lighter backgrounds (e.g. "about this mac" was really bad). I didn't find the solution anywhere and several people reported needing to replace their hardware. With the help of a technician at Apple, we figure out the fix (in my case).
    Here's what didn't work:
    - shutting off the machine and unpowering for 15 seconds
    - resetting the PRAM
    Here's what DID work:
    - go to Utilities
    - go to Disk Utility
    - select Macintosh HD
    - press "verify disk permission" (and wait a long long time)
    - press "repair disk permission" (and wait a long long time)
    - reboot
This fixed it. Apparently errors on disk impact bits in displaying certain things. Who knew.
Anyway, I hope this helps someone else.
    Nate

    OK. Thanks.
I noticed that when I ran the verify/repair permissions again, it found some, repaired it, and the dots went away again. That would indicate a hardware problem.

  • Tecra S2: strange dots on screen appearing with no reason and at random

    Hello,
I have a Toshiba Tecra S2 laptop for almost a year now.
I formatted it 2 months ago and when i did this. i had stranges dots on my screen, appearing with no reason and at random. I dont have a clue where it came from and i decided to format my computer again.
I've installed the latest chipset driver from the intel website and then i've installed the latest driver from the toshiba site.
I've noticed the problem is back. so that didn't solve anything. What can I do about this?
PS, not only the dots, but i cant play games also.

    HI Jelle,
When you say that you formatted your notebook, did you completely re-install the operating system from the recovery discs ? If you did then the display should work correctly.
If you installed the operating system from Microsoft discs then you will need to download the correct Toshiba drivers for your Tecra from the Toshiba web site download page.
    regards,

  • Dots on screen/crystalized

The screen on my ipod looks like there are tiny dots on it, don't know what caused it and if it can be fixed? Screen looks crystalized.

That may be indicative of a possible problem, though I am not
an expert; but have read of issues in some older G5 models
in these and other user forum areas over some years...
There may be a graphics related issue or other item behind
the symptoms your computer reportedly has started making.
Other models had some sample capacitor issues, and a few
logic board issues; so you may have to be more specific in
the build year and model information. There may be a simple
procedure, such as a hardware test an expert may know of
to check the computer; so perhaps if you are near a full
service authorized repair facility or know of a good tech,
they could check and test the computer to isolate this issue.
Information from Support on machine specifications can be
a source of helpful data, so can the free downloadable data-
base from http://mactracker.ca for better identifying devices.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Polygons and red dots on screen

Sometimes, when I scroll down on web pages, green and red polygons take most of the screen.Oftentimes, red dots appear on the screen when I am playing a videogame (mostly in dark scenes). What is the problem and how is it solved? My guess is that it is a malfunctioning GPU that needs to be replaced, but I would rather not speculate and hear from a specialist. Model: ENVY Phoenix 810-330qeCPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4770K CPU @ 3.50GHzGPU: AMD Radeon R9 270RAM: 8GB DDR3 1.6GHz

Hello , Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? • Dots on screen instread of time laps bar

I've had my ipod namo for 5 months now and it has worked fine. I turned on my ipod the other day and i notesed that the volume bar or the time laps bar was not showing. Instead only 5 hollow white dots apear. I can still adjust the volume and track scroll but i cant see the levels or time. Anyone have any suggestions or the same problem? Thanks so much.
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

The five dots is the rating screen. You should be able to use the center button to scroll through the various screens. However, there is a known issue with the latest updater 1.1 that causes the screen to get stuck on ratings.

  • Anyone have a small speck/dot on screen in their FaceTime calls?

I have 2 white  5's (16gb & 32gb)  and I've noticed when I open the FaceTime camera there is a small white speck/dot that appears on the screen almost right in the middle of the screen. It doesn't appear on the regular camera screen or any other time so I'm assuming its actually in the front facing camera. Anyone else haw this issue?

Thank you guys for ur replies but my question is still unanswered.
I know about the 'E' symbol turning circular and the three spots on the iphone screen. What I mean to say is that there is an extra blue spot (very small)which looks as if there is a dead pixel or something like that. it appears exactly below the Messages icon (if seen on the first page of screen). when I rub it few times it disappears for a second and it again reappears.
    Any suggestions....

  • Pixel dot on screen. (please help)

I 've had my imac less then 1 month and just notice a small red pixel dot on my screen. The imac isn't returnable anymore.
    What do I do?
    Thanks!

I've noted a little fix I think may be work in a another topic- basically, if any of you are familiar with the PSP, there have been some fixes for stuck pixels, usually with a 70% success rate.
I've created a similar fix for the Mac called rapidFire. rapidFire is a simple QuickTime movie, that if successful, should eliminate any "stuck" pixels on your screen. By rapidly displaying red, green, blue and white colors on your screen, the capacitors that control a "stuck" pixel should begin to work properly again.
This movie is based off a popular solution for "stuck" pixels on Sony's Play Station Portable. Users report a 60-80% success rate with these units. While I haven't thoroughly tested rapidFire, it should not cause any damage and will not void your Warranty or Apple Care Protection Plan coverage. That said, it's offered AS IS, with no warranty implied.
    Download rapidFire here: http://chris.macteens.com/RapidFire.zip
You could also try gently massaging the area where the stuck pixel appears to be, but you must be very gentle (yet applying firm pressure) when doing this.

  • Samsung DLP White dots on screen

My 46 inch DLP  has a growing number of small white dots on the screen of my two year old Samsung ,any ideas on what is wrong and how much to fix?

    Hey mongo3772,
There are a number of different problems that you could be experiencing, including a potentially defective digital micomirror device (DMD).  Unfortunately, the only way to determine if a part is actually failing would be to contact a factory-authorized service center. Before giving anyone a call, however, I’d strongly recommend visiting Samsung’s troubleshooting support website:
    http://www.samsung.com/us/support/troubleshooting/troubleshootingGuidesMain.do
You’ll need to have the model number for your TV handy when you visit the site, but you may be able to find a quick-fix for your TV that doesn’t involve a repair technician!
    Hope this helps you out!

They are small and can be screen very good with white backgrounds. When i tried to clean them off with the cloth the came with my mac they wouldn't come off. Then i notice they were little dents kind of. But i haven't been rough with my mac, i use it for school work everyday. It seems like everyday a new one pops up. OH SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!

Hard to interpret from a distance. Bad pixels would be behind the glass, "small dents" would be in front of the glass.
I would take it to an Apple Retail Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) for evaluation, or call your nearest Apple Contact Center. Visit the Genius Bar at the Apple Retail Store, make a reservation

  • Magenta dots on screen?

My mid 2010 27" i7 iMac has recently started showing flashing magenta square dots on the screen at random times.
I have rebooted several times and reset the PRAM.  Anyone have any ideas what this could be?

Step one is to run the Apple Hardware Test program, extended tests, at least twice, followed by  Rember.

  • Simulated dots from screening effect?

Hi, I know I've done this before in a earlier version of Illustrator, but I can't remember how. I have a gausion blur, that I want to vectorize the screening, we print wide web flexo, and metallic inks have too much gain, so I want to vectorize the effect at say 65LPI, or 130ppi. can anyone help with this? In the past I was able to take a path's fill at 50%, and create large dots from that. I've tried the rasterize effect from the effects menu, with no luck.
    Please advise.
    Thank you.
    Tom

...this job needs to be screened with different Linescreens,...The gold is the only line screen that I want at 65, everything else needs to be 150.
Again: Printing to a PostScript device, you should be able to set the halftone ruling, angle, and shape independently for each ink separation.
Plus, the result would be true halftones, not fake halftones consisting of just bunched up dots. In a real halftone, as the tone approaches 50% the dots don't just grow larger and collide, as with Illustrator's Color Halftone Effect and similar effects. The midtone dots of a true halftone change shape and "meld" into each other so that the tones above 50% transition into round dots also, not into the "pinched" 4-pointed stars. You want your 80% white dots to be round, just like your 20% black dots are round.
