Dotted Strokes not exporting to pdf (InDesign CS3).

I'm producing a booklet in CS3 where I've used a lot of dotted strokes (both as decorative lines, and as outlines to background panels beneath text). When I export to pdf, I'm finding that all the spreads that contain these elements come up blank with error messages. If I change the stroke type to solid, there is no problem. Is this a bug with the dotted stroke feature, or anything else? Any fixes or suggestions would be great to hear.

Thanks Peter. Yup, I even sent it to my regular printer and they get the issue too. Moving the strokes to different layers and unchecking compression doesn't help either. I have actually had this issue before on another project, and had to workaround by redoing the dotted lines in illustrator and importing them into the InDesign file as pdfs. But this time the artwork has a ton of the dotted lines, too many to redraw.

  • Stroke effects not exporting to PDF from CS3

    Hi,
    I'm using CS3 on Windows XP. My problem is that some stroke effects are not showing up in PDFs. On a two page document, the effects on page one do not show up on the PDF but the effects on page two show up perfect. I've tried multiple export presets with no luck. All the other effects export perfectly. The strokes are part of an object style, but I've tried doing them independently, also with no luck.
    Thoughts? Help?

    You'll get more help if you provide some more details about the stroke effects you are applying, and what they are applied to.

  • Problem in the exportation to PDF (Indesign CS6)

    Problem in the exportation to PDF (Indesign CS6):
    Page with 3 layers: 1st background image, 2nd semi-transparent white square, 3rd text in color black.
    It looks OK in Indesign, but when exporting, in the PDF file the letters are not black, they are gray. What could happened? I've tryed already the obvious solutions (the order of layers is OK, restarted the PC...)
    Thank you in advance.

    the default [Black] swatch (0/0/0/100 in CMYK)  really is a lighter color than a rich black mixed from four CMYk ink, or 3 RGB colors. It would be pretty unusual to see a black background in an image that wasn't a mix.
    Do you have the preference in ID for Appearance of Black set to Display All Blacks Accurately? That will show you the difference in ID on screen as well.

  • Bleeding background shape will not export to PDF

    Hello everyone,
    I am working in InDesign v. 7.0.3 and when I set a rectangle to bleed on all sides it will not export to PDF (using Adobe Acrobat Pro, v. 9.4.2) . That being said, shapes and text within the page all show up. Does anyone have any suggestions that might solve this very annoying mystery?
    Thank you in advance for your help!
    P.S. I should add that the save dialog box presents a desktop icon that does show the complete file.

    No background at all? not just bleed not showing?
    If it's restricted to this file, try Remove minor corruption by exporting
    If it's all files, Replace Your Preferences

    Hi wishborne,
    I'm here to help! Are you unable to log in to ExportPDF, or unable to convert files once you're logged in? I tried to check your order history, but don't see any orders under the email address that you use here. Did you perhaps sign up using a different email address, or sign up via Adobe Reader?
    I look forward to hearing back from you. We will get to the bottom of this.

  • Dotted line is not exported correctly form Indesign to pdf

    My dotted lines do not export as exactly round dots but with kind of "erroded" outlines. Has anyone encountered the same problem yet? How can I solve it? I used the "export for high res print preset". Thanx!

    With "manually", Bob meant you cannot do it in InDesign (which must make it as good as 'manual', in his opinion ).
    Using Acrobat Pro, all you have to do is open the PDF and start the Forms Wizard. It's the top item under the Forms menu. You'll be amazed at how well it does:
    All I did was start the wizard and hit "OK"!
    (hey! that image was supposed to end up inbetween! jive editor showing a tantrum, again.)

  • Noobie Mistake? Export to pdf InDesign Server CS3

    Hi,
    I'm trying to export my open document on InDesign Server CS3 to pdf, but it isn't working.
    I can open, make changes and save, but when it comes to exporting it gives an error:
    "An exception occurred when executing a COM method.
    The cause of this exception was that: AutomationException: 0x0 - The specified object does not support the desired export format. in 'C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS3 Server\InDesignServer.exe'."
    Here is my code below. I've tried the export code for pdf with inverted comma's as well, no luck. All the sample scripts do it in this fashion, am I missing something?
    Any help much appreciated.
    myInDesignServer = CreateObject("COM", "InDesignServer.Application.CS3");
    myDocument = myInDesignServer.Open("C:\artwork\my_file.indd");
    myDocument.Export(1952403524, "C:\artwork\my_pdf.pdf");
    myDocument.close();

    Hello Brett,
    I have done some COM programming with IndesignServer CS3 using C#, here is is the way I do a pdf export:
    doc.Export(idExportFormat.idPDFType, @"C:\indesignTestFile.pdf", false, "[High Quality Print]", "Some Comment", true);
    Notice the first argument: the enumeration which specifies the file type and the fourth argument which is the name of an Adobe Pdf Preset. This particular preset should already be installed on your CS3 server. You cant export to a pdf without using an export preset.
    I hope this was helpful, Im no expert myself.

  • Special letters do not export to PDF from InDesign CS4

    I have just installed Indesign CS4 and gathered all the fonts I needed from my old computer. Everything has gone well until I tried to export my document to PDF. The PDF showed the Icelandic special "Ð" and "Þ" letters as a missing letter, a white space or a simple box. This only happens in several typefaces, namely Helvetica Neue, Cohin and Times. (and maybe some others). Note that the special letters are shown in InDesign. I reckon that there is some problem whit the export… Can anybody help me?

    You can check the "Advanced" section when you export the PDF to make sure that fonts are being embedded. Both d-with-bar and thorn are part of the glyph complement of Helvetica Neue, so either the font is not being embedded, or something is wrong in ID. You can also go to the "Composition" section of the Preferences and put a check into the "Substituted Glyphs" box to make sure that the d-with-bar and thorn that are appearing in your ID doc are actually part of the font (which they should be).

  • Palatino LT CE Italic does not export to PDF

    Because I need some Central European characters with diacritics that are not supported in Palatino LT (standard font for a journal I edit), I purchased a PS Type 1 Palatino LT CE font. Characters appear fine in InDesign CS3 (5.0.3), and the Roman and Bold fonts export without problems to PDF, but Italic and Bold Italic do not. They appear as gibberish: a combination of hollow boxes and garbled letters. Creating a MS Word document with the same text in the same fonts and exporting that to PDF appears to work just fine, so it seems to be an InDesign issue. I've had no success searching the forum or knowledge base for solutions.
    Environment is Mac OS X 10.5.4, MacBook Pro.
    Any enlightenment (or even better, solutions) anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated! TIA, DG

    Tom, thanks so much for this work-around suggestion. It seems to have worked perfectly. Many thanks!

  • Remove back image while exporting to PDF (InDesign CS4)??

    Hi All,
    I have two images in my InDesign CS4 file and one image is hiding behind my second image. When I am exporting my InDesign file as Pdf and opening in Acrobat, Acrobat showing bottom image first and then showing my top image.
    Is there any way to remove my bottom image which is appearing behind in my top image while exporting to Pdf.
    I don't want remove manually because it happening with most of my InDesign file.
    Please suggest.
    Thanks
    Baljeet

    I would move bottom image to separate layer and then eventually I would switch it off.
    If you don't want to change anything in InDesign you can eliminate the second image in your already generated PDF.
    Open your PDF in Acrobat Pro.
    Advanced -> Print Production -> PDF Optimizer.
    You can leave only "Clean Up" check box marked (eventually Transparency if Acrobat will not allow you to switch it off). All the rest leave unchecked.
    This operation will remove hidden image.
    Correction: It will not remove the image. It just made the PDF to be displayed much more faster that is why the second image appearance was not noticeable. Sorry for the inconvenience.

  • Table of Contents bookmarks not exporting to PDF (CS5)

    I have a 200 page book made up of 15 documents.  I've created a table of contents based on paragraph styles and the TOC generates and formats correctly.  When I create the TOC, the Create PDF Bookmarks box is checked.  When I export the whole book I've tried it with Create Tagged PDF checked and unchecked.
    After I export to PDF from the Book palette, the TOC items are links (at least they give me the pointer-hand icon) but they don't go anywhere.  The only one that does is the one in the same document as the TOC.  (I have tried the TOC both within a chapter and also in it's own document with no other links in it).  The behavior is the same in the Bookmarks pane - all are shown but only one works.  I've looked at several of the bookmarks' Properties > Actions.  It says its "Going to a page in another document" > (document-name-of-the-correct-chapter-but-with-pdf-instead-of-indd.pdf) > Page 1 (this is correct) > Zoom level: actual size.
    This isn't right - it's pointing to an imaginary pdf that doesn't exist.  It should be pointing to page X in the current document.
    Here's what I've tried:
    * restarting InDesign
    * restarting my machine
    * deleting the TOC and regenerating it
    * generating the book with all documents open or all documents closed
    * moving the TOC to its own document
    * probably some other things I've forgotten in the struggle
    All of the links and references in the individual documents are good.
    I've looked around these forums and this seems to be an ongoing and unsolved issue for other folks using older versions.  This is the closest I came to finding an answer but ended up with an Adobe employee logging it as a bug in 2009.  Bookmarks not exporting from InDesign to PDF in CS4                     By (c_goates)
    So here's hoping there is some new information.  I've been trying to get this to work for far too long and don't relish drawing bookmark boxes around all 55 of my text links.

    Sorry this is so long, but details help, usually.  Thanks in advance for any advice.

    There are some known problems with bookmarks and CS5 as well. As far as I know, the 7.0.3 update won't fix them, but it does solve some other problems, so you should install it.

  • Chapter Headings Are Not Exporting to PDF as h1-h3 tags

    With two-column layouts, even though I assigned PDF export tags to the chapter heading Paragraph Styles, they are not being exported to PDF with h1-3 tags.

    Create Tagged PDF
    Bookmarks
    Hyperlinks
    And I have the Compatibility set to "Acrobat 8/9 (PDF1.7)

  • Keynote symbols not exporting to PDF

    How do I make Keynote export % symbols to a PDF? For some reason it is not exporting. I tried using multiple fonts. I was pretty surprised to see that Keynote was leaving characters off of exports. Usually Apple is pretty good about accuracy.
    Yosemite OS 10.10.2
    Keynote 6.5.2 (2119)
    Macbook Pro 15 Retina
    Fonts tried:  Helvetica, Futura Std
    Could not export % symbols adjacent to numbers

    Sorry. my bad on version numbers. The latest patch for CS4 is 6.0.6, but you might want to stop at 6.0.5 if you have file with imported Illustrator graphics because, if memory serves, the 6.0.6 patch changes the way they are scaled on relink.
    Do you actually have an InDesign Document open when you go to File > Export...? I presume the answer is yes or the command would not be active.
    When the export dialog opens you should see a standard file save dialog with a large area that shows folders and files, and two fields below where you can enter a name and choose a file type to export. What do you see in the file type field? If it isn't PDF, can you click the arrow on the end and choose Adobe PDF?
    What is showing in the name field? Are you able to enter a new name of your choice?
    I suspect that at some point you may have changed the name of the PDF you exported from the file (the default is to use the same file name, but you can enter anything you like), then saved the .indd file after doin the export. When you do this you embed the new PDF file name into the file and it will always be selected the next time you try to export. If I recall correctly, exporting to .idml or .inx, then opeing that and resaving as a new .indd should clear that, and simply changing the name for the export to match the filename  of the docuemtn may work as well.

  • Strange color change in graphic when ID file exported to pdf  ID CS3

    I open a pdf of some special graphic or scientific equation in Photoshop, put it into grayscale, discard layers, and save as a Tiff. I then import it into a two-color InDesign document. With the selection tool, I choose a swatch of one of the two colors in the document at 10% tint, to be a background color (where there is no content in the Tiff). With the direct selection tool I then choose from the swatches the other color of the two-color document for the actual content of the graphic (text, drawing, etc.). On-screen this looks exactly as it should. However, when I export the InDesign file as a pdf, the color of the background of the graphic is a 10% tint of the second color, not the first color. I have tried redoing the graphic in Photoshop in different ways, but no matter what I do the export to pdf from InDesign changes the color of the background of the graphic to the other color. How can I fix this problem? I am on a new MacBook, 2.4 GHz Intel core 2 Duo; 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 memory; OSX 10.5.6.

    I previously posted this issue in InDesign forum, where I was said that it seems to be Acrobat issue. Therefore I am posting here.
    Thanks in advance
    Well this is the Reader forum. You cannot check colors using Reader. Are you using Acrobat? If so, you will want to ask in the Acrobat forum for your OS. Good luck.

  • File will not export to PDF

    I am creating an InDesign book composed of multiple placed PDF files. Whenever I go to export this book as a new print PDF, I keep receiving an error message that says "1 problem (1 failure) was found with a background task: Failed to export the PDF file."  I have narrowed it down to one particular PDF within the book that seems to be causing the problem. However, I don't really know enough about PDF files to determine what the problem actually is. Does anyone have any idea what may be going on here or have any other things for me to look into to provide further information? Thanks!

    Never mind! I'm not sure what the actual problem was, but after printing the file that was having the issue and re-scanning it as a new file, everything worked out.
