Double beeps on Compaq dc7100 CMT

Hi, my motherboard HP 929 REV. 0H S28 makes a long double beep every couple of seconds when I'm trying to start it up.
Computer only had mb, cpu and a power supplier installed when I got it, I've put on new thermal paste, 2x1G of ram + a new hdd but I can't find any instructions on what does those beeps mean.
When I push the power button sometimes fans take one spin, stop and nothing happens or it starts up with beeping as mentioned but with no bios output or any screen reaction.
Changing power suppliers for tested (good) one is not making any difference.
Any ideas?

Hi:
Please see the troubleshooting guide at the link below. Appendix A, page A-15.
Indicates a processor thermal issue.
http://bizsupport2.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00189283/c00189283.pdf
If none of the steps listed resolve the issue, I would suspect the motherboard is toast.

    Hi:
Now that you installed the latest microcode update, may I recommend you install the Pentium 4 650 3.4 GHz?
That processor has double the L2 cache as the one you installed, and you can run a 64 bit operating system on it.
If you have the CMT, you have a pretty wide assortment of video cards you can install so you can run all of the features of Windows 7.  The onboard GMA 900 video won't run Aero. Just keep within the power supply limit of 345W
I have W7 x64 on my dc7100 CMT and an ASUS nVidia 8400GS 512 MB fanless video card in mine, and everything works great. Recommended P/S is 300W for the card so I was fine.
The P4 650 is pretty reasonable on eBay. That is where I got mine.

  • I was surfing the net when my computer started emitting double beeps. I shut it down with no problem but I can't find any info on double beeps that did not occur at startup (haven't tried starting it back up yet though). What happened?

Quite the trial to sign in to freaking Apple support.  I apparently made an account with my primary e-mail, but damned if I can recover the password, apparently I don't know my own birthday.  So I had to make a new account with another e-mail, and even when I thought it was done, no, I had to fill out more information before I could get to this screen.  You won't let me ask for tech support from your message board without my mailing address?  Then my completely inoccuous user name was rejected for containing banned words.  Lemurs and cats are profane now, what?  This is why I hate computers.
Anyway, I've got Mac OS X 4.something, can't check because it is shut down, and I already described my problem in the subject there before I got dragged back into account creation.  I searched several places for answers but all I can find are discussions about double beeping at startup (even when excluding the word "startup" from search results), while my double beeping started all of a sudden when the computer was in use.  The beeps were certainly less than a minute apart.  What happened? What do I need to do about it? Is it safe to start the computer up again?  Fortunately my files are pretty much all backed up.

I don't know if we are experiencing the same problem, but this is what I did and it seemed to work for me so far.
Before anything I had to hard restart my laptop. hold power button until off then turn back on.
In Finder click on Go, then click Go to Folder.  in the dialogue box type
    /var/db/crls
In that folder there are two files that you need to move to the trash
    crlcache.db
    ocspcache.db
You will need to type in your password to move these to the trash.
Restart your computer and then Empty the Trash.  It is very important that you empty the trash afterwards.  I forgot to do this the first time and I had to restart the whole process.  It has been a few days and I have been without any problems.
I am not claiming this process to be my own, I found it on another discussion thread and it worked for me. I don't have a link to it because I had to use someone else's computer and had no luck trying to find it again. This is the procedure I followed, I do remember it well and I wrote down the steps because I had to do it twice and got tired of combing through all of the websites I have searched looking for a fix to my problem.  Hopefully this helps, and try it at your own risk of course.
Let me know if you try it and it works or not, good luck.

  • How do i find a graphics driver for my hp compaq dc7100 sff

My computer is a Hp compaq dc7100 sff, the operating system that is install is windows 7 32bit

    Hi:
Please follow these instructions and see if the video driver installs.
Your onboard graphics adapter (GMA 900) is not Windows 7 capable.
I can send you the link to a driver that should make it work much better but you will never have Aero.
Here is the link to the driver.
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=US&swItem=ob-472...
You need to run the package. It will extract the drivers and it will then give you an Operating system not supported error.
Close the error window and then manually install the driver by clicking on the video controller in the device manager. Then click on the driver tab. Click on update driver. Select the "Browse my computer for software method.
Browse to:  C:\SWSetup\sp34749, make sure the include subfolders box is checked and the driver should install.
It should be a whole lot better than what you have now.

  • Intermittent double beep and grey screen on startup

I just installed new third party RAM for my iMac (2008), because it was on sale. The initial RAM they sent me caused a kernel panic (forced shutdown) so I assumed they were faulty and sent them back. I just received my second set of RAM modules - which appear to work -- kind of. I have not had the kernel panic screen and no problems once the computer is booted, however about every second or third time I restart the computer I get the grey screen and a series of double beeps (which I have found out means incompatible RAM on startup testing). The hardware testing utility on my OSX Disc tests the RAM as being OK. I found a free app called rember which reports RAM errors. My question is: have I got a second set of faulty RAM - should I be looking at getting another brand (the one I have is "Add-On" and was specifically marketed as being for the aluminum intel based iMacs).
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi Machaon42
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
That sounds like incorrect or incompatible RAM, double check the spec's of that RAM compared to either your User's Guide or > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1760
Then compare OWC's price, it is iMac tested and highly recommended by forum members.

  • Microcode Update Error in HP DC7100 CMT

Hi, I have a hp dc7100 cmt and I have already read other post regarding Microcode Error, but the file that I need ---> http://h20566.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=402165&swItem=ir_63388_1&lang=en&cc=uk <--- isn't available where I can find it?

    Hi:
Here is the link to the file you need...
    http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=402164&swItemId=PSG_I23754_109014&swEnvOi...
Reminder that this microcode update will only work by using a floppy disk.
The file will ask you to insert a floppy disk in a FDD and it will create a bootable floppy disk and put the microcode update files on the disk.
Then you boot from the FDD and follow the on screen instructions to update the microcode.

  • After downloading Quicktime 7.7.4 for Windows I keep getting four double beeps ever 10-15 sec.  When I uninstall the software, the beeping goes away.  Any ideas on what is causing this?

After downloading Quictime version 7.7.4 for Windows on my Dell Inspiron Ultrabook with Windows 8 installed, I keep getting 4 double beeps ever 10-15 second.  However when I unistall the software the beeping stops.  Any help would be appreciated.

    Welcome!
You have several thing at play. The first, most likely to cause a crash, and easiest to fix is that you have Safari in the wrong place:
    Path:            /Users/Rich/Desktop/Safari.app/Contents/MacOS/Safari
You have the Safari Application on the Desktop but, to work correctly, it must be in the Applications folder :
Path: Macintosh Hard Drive > Applications.
Second, you have some third-party plug-ins or extensions that can cause trouble. Try deactivating DivX---it is known to prevent videos on Apple's web site from working. Also turn off the EverNote extension until you as sure everything is stable. Check for an Evernote update.
See how things go with Safari in the proper place and with extensions turned off. Then turn extensions back on one at a time and test for stability
The fact that you are running Flash 10.3 makes me think you have a newer iMac than covered in this forum. PPC Macs can run no higher than Flash 10.1, so you may be in a forum for models older than yours. Do "About this Mac" from your Apple menu and see what the processor description reads. If it includes the word "Intel," you should post future questions here:
    iMac (Intel)
There is also a separate forum for Safari troubleshooting regardless of what model Mac you have:

  • Double Beep at regular intervals on Satellite P100 series

    Hello,
    I just bought a Satellite P100 Notebook.
The Notebook makes a double beep every few minutes, even if I unplug the power supply.
When I turn it off, the beeping continues.
The speakers don't seem to work, even though the volume settings are all on.
    Thanks for some help,
    Cheers Larso.

    Hello Larso
Did you install own OS or you use already preinstalled factory settings?
In my opinion those things should not happen and if I were you I would contact local dealer and confront him with those issues. The unit is new and before you start any kind of troubleshooting check this with dealer.
The only thing you can try is to preinstall unit with recovery media. On this way the OS will be clean preinstalled and you can check if the problem persists.

  • Double Beep when running

Every now and again i get a double beep from the system speaker when my machine is running, i cannot get to the bottom of this , and was looking for my suggestions.
Also my benchmarks seem a little low from sisoft , compared to some of the benchmarks on this board. (my bios is set as it comes as standard with no changes). Any pointers on this would be more than welcome.
    Benchmark Results
    Dhrystone ALU : 9094 MIPS
    Whetstone FPU : 3265 MFLOPS
    Whetstone iSSE2 : 4236 MFLOPS
    Benchmark Results
    RAM Bandwidth Int Buff'd iSSE2 : 2343 MB/s
    RAM Bandwidth Float Buff'd iSSE2 : 2343 MB/s

perhaps could be the power supply, i have attatched specs below on sig , what do you think.

  • M58p at start-up double beep, no post screen, no splash

    Hi there,
Yesterday my Avast antivurus crashed, which itself was very unusual. I have run a quick check and found a few trojans, which names I have forget regrettably.
I've scheduled a deep scan at the boot, reboot and left for work. Upon return I found the computer with a black screen, impossible to restart.
At the boot one can only hear cpu and chassis fan tests, then a double beep and then nothing. No post screen nor splash screens. Can't enter BIOS settings.
The monitor is OK. I've reset the CMOS and battery, to no avail. One  by one I have removed all peripherals trying to boot at each step, but the outcome was consistently null.
Dealing with such symptoms I would normally assume the motherboard is good to go to the bin, but the specific circumstances -  trojans and all this stuff - make me think twice. Could some trojan or other malware put me in such a mess? If so, what to do next?

Trojans shouldn't affect booting. I hear two beeps out of an M58 and I immediately reset the memory. M58s are sensitive to the memory sticks being jossled out of position. Completely remove your memory and re-seat the sticks in the same slots. Did that do the trick??

  • Kensington AssistOne makes annoying double beep

I recently bought a Kensington AssistOne for use with navigation (iGo MyWay) on my iPhone 4. It works well, including for phone calls. However, when there is no other source of sound then the mount periodically emits a double beep sound. Is this meant to happen, and if not then does anyone know what is wrong and how to cure it?
    Many thanks.

More bad news with iOS 8 on the iPhone 5. When I turn my phone sideways my keyboard often locks up. Pushing the keys does nothing. I have to close the Messages app and reopen it. Also, all of my friends have verified that these issues are occurring on their phones too. Get your stuff together Apple.

  • Compaq dc7600 CMT does not recognize over 3 MB of memory

I have a Compaq dc7600 CMT.  If I load more that 3mb of memory into the 4 slots, it only recongnizes 3328.  The bios sees 4 but when testing memory skips after 3328.  In windows it says 3.24 MB.  Any suggestions?

    Hi:
That is totally normal, and cannot be changed whether or not you have installed a 32 or 64 bit operating system.
System memory goes into reserve mostly for shared video memory and other uses.
Only Intel based desktops with the 965 or newer chipset will Windows "see and use" all 4 GB of memory with a 64 bit operating system installed.
    The dc7600 has a 945 chipset.
And you want to leave the 4 x 1GB modules in there so the memory runs in DDR mode for best performance.
Or install 1 GB-512 MB-1 GB-512 MB if you don't like seeing the 3/4 GB of memory disappear.

  • No led,no backlight,double beep,no internal screen in windows.

    Hi,
I've got a problem with my lovely t400. Few days ago the screen started to work badly. When i turned on the computer, screen was dark. When I connect it to ac and wait for a while the green led for power supply lights up. Today, I've done the same thing, but the led won't light.
Hopefully i've got an external screen so i can work with my comp. I've checked the properties in windows, and there is only external screen. I've taken all the plastics from the screen and saw that led's are on but very dim. Also when there isn't external screen connected, t400 beep twice on the start up.
    Screen is ccfl.
    I've checked voltages on inverter:
    - there is 20v on input
    - on led is only 1,5v
    - on output is about 1v AC
    Fuses on MB are ok.
I've ordered new inverter and its still doesn't work.

If yoy are talking about the output to the bulb, it is AC, not DC. That's what the inverter does - it makes the AC to run the bulb. It is hard to diagnose without seeing it, but it sounds like your panel is bad.
