Double Birthday Entries - Cannot delete, read only.

Not that impressed with iCloud...
Since trying it out and syncing my calender/address book. It has deleted my Mac Address book (albeit, I managed to fix this) and it has doubled up the number of Birthday calenders showing online. Hence my question, how do I remove the doubling up and Birthday entries, period. I know that I can untick the preferences on the iCloud website, but I'd rather have them removed completely, instead of hidden.
Any suggestions or advice appreciated. Thanks in advance.

A fresh install, a six month wait before using iCloud again and the problem has gone...

[SOLVED] /bin/tar: Cannot utime: Read-only file system

While doing a tar backup on my servers, I get this error:
/bin/tar: /usr/local/bin/sendEmail: Cannot utime: Read-only file system
The error happens on all files in /usr that I'm trying to backup. I know why the error is happening -- I deliberately mount /usr as read-only.
I'd like to know why tar is trying to "utime" my files and how I can stop that behaviour if possible?
This is my tar command:
tar cjf /mnt/backup/backup.tar.bz2 --label='backup_090116' --atime-preserve --no-wildcards-match-slash --files-from=/root/backup.include --exclude-from=/root/backup.exclude

Isn't it quite pointless to preserve timestamps on files from a filesystem on which timestamps aren't modified? Maybe tar tries to update the timestaps prior to archiving the file and is that giving troubles.

HT1492 Start-up disk is full and can't go past the blue screen; can't delete read-only files on single-user mode. Please help.

I have had my Mac mini for about 6 years and I guess it had enough of me (haha), so the start-up disk got full and it shut down before I could empty files on my drive. Unfortunately, all these years I hadn't backed up anything and now I can't access anything since it won't boot past the apple logo (and the blue screen for that matter). I have tried rebooting (holding shift as the mac mini loads), but that didn't help since the start-up disk will still be full and stuck on the blue screen. I am now trying the single-user mode (holding command key+s), and I tried to delete files in the trash bin but all of the files are read-only and access is denied! so I basically can't delete anything on the mac mini (it says "Root device is mounted read-only"). So the key here is to change the permissions but I don't know how to exactly do that. Can someone help me figure this out? (and type the command in the unix language please!!) [ Note: We have two users on this mac mini if that helps.]

Run the following command:
mount -uw /

What I found was that you have to go all or nothing. I don't have any personal iDevices (just an iPad through work) so the simple solution was to turn off Contact syncing for iCloud. I'm guessing you'll need to remove all your local contacts or, the more tedious solution, remove the birthdays from all the local contacts. As you surmised, iCal seems to use the whole address book, and can't be just a subset of contacts.

Cannot delete messages only on Handheld = Unacceptable!

A very important feature is no longer possible on BB10: Deleting on Handheld only.
The option to decide to delete on Handheld or both was very important to me. Now it's gone. Why removing features from previous versions?
This is unacceptable.

ActiveSync devices are meant to mirror the email server. Rather than delete them from the device you could file them in folders.
The option to delete just on handheld doesn't exist on ActiveSync devices.

Why cannot delete reading list items in Safari

Environment: OS X 10.8.2
Everytime I empty the reading list, Safari just tells me the bookmarks are syncing. Then the items reappear in reading list. I tried to disable icloud syncing and then re-enable it. It just didn't work.
Any suggestions? Can iCloud be any better? It bothers me alot.

Exactly same problem. Got syncing between all iOS devices but NOT on iMac...
And items which I delete from Reading List on iMac keep returning in the list but in 'saving for offline reading...' mode.

HELP- "IPOD Cant Be Synced. The Disk is locked" Cant remove Read only

I cannot remove read only from the IPod Control folder. It won't let me. I cant load music to my ipod, which I previously have with same computer, itunes, everything. I have the most updated itunes, software, etc.
Can anyone help me? I have no clue what to do. I tried to right click on the ipod disk and run an error check. that didnt work. I'm clueless. Help!

Read only error

using an Infobus Form developed with JDeveloper 2.0 I get a runtime error "DAC-105 ImmediateAccess: SetAttribute failed" on two columns of the RowSet. When I include a setUpdateable(true)line for the column the result is a runtime error "JBO-03110 Cannot update Read only attribute" accompanied by "DAC-104" similar to 105 above. I know I can use SQL to insert into those columns.
a) where do I find the error messages indicated?
b) How can I work around this problem?

I cannot delete calendar entries from my Iphone 5. It says they all are read only. I went back and I cannot find the main. It was deleted. I clicked save future events when I did this accidentally.

I cannot delete a repeated appointment in my calendar. I deleted the main and accidentally hit save future dates. I tried to delete each future date but there was no edit function. I then clicked the calendar and i could change it but they all display read only cannot delete.

Were the photos taken by your new iPhone? If so, did you not import them off your phone to your computer (as you would any other digital camera) before the restore? If not, restoring wiped the data off the phone and your pictures are gone.

How do I delete a read only calendar entry

I'm trying delete an apparent "read only" birthday calendar event and I'm getting a message about "only the calendar administrator and any delegates with permission...blah, blah, blah. I've tried how to "become a "calendar administrator" so I can delete a constantly occurring birthday reminder I do not want, but I have found nothing that will help me become this authoritative figure that can then possess these magical deleting privileges in my own calendar! Anybody been done this path and figured it out?

If it is the Birthdays calendar then you control entries on it from the Contacts app.
If you enter a birthday on a contact card it will show a reminder in calendar.

Have same copy of book with incomplete download. Cannot read and cannot delete entries.

Have downloaded iBooks with ePub. Some were incompletely downloaded. Cannot read and more importantly cannot Delete. Connecting iPad 3 to MacBook Air does not show incomplete downloads. How to remove as selecting edit and tapping on icons yields nothing.

I've had the same issue for the past two weeks and have finally been able to resolve it.
For references, I have my iPhone syncing to the following settings:
1. iTunes Match (OFF)
2. Automotic Download (OFF)
3. iCloud (OFF)
I'm guessing my solution would still work if your syncing has been configured differently, but I've only tested this solution with the above configurations.
1. Make sure all the songs you want are also backed up in your iTunes (because you will be deleting it off your iPhone).
2. On your iPhone, access the Music app and navigate to a filter that contains the affected songs: i.e.
     a. Album
     b. Artist
     c. Genre
     d. Anything that the duplicate songs (the one with the odd play buttons) are grouped within. For me, all the duplicate songs were within one particular album. So, I selected the Album (I could have easily selected the artist as well, but that would have deleted more songs than necessary). If your duplicate songs are scattered across albums and artists, this could take awhile depending on how many songs are duplicated.
3. Swipe to delete the "Album," "Artist," "Genre,' etc. Not the song. You won't be able swipe to delete the song and will be eternally frustrated by this.
4. Re-sync your songs with iTunes.
5. Nasty, weird, non-playing duplicate songs should now be gone.

My inbox messages are labeled as "Read Only" and I cannot delete them

The messages in my inbox have been marked as "read only" somehow and I cannot delete them or move them to the trash. When I click on them I can read them but they stay black instead of turning to grey, so my unread mail count never goes down. It is an AOL account and the only way I can delete them is to go onto AOL.com and delete them from there.
Is there a way to get rid of the "read only" I don't know how it got there to begin with. It just started happening about a month ago
