Double-clicking a transparent vector shape pretends like it's going to let you change the fill type

One thing that's irritating/confusing/non-intuitive about the new vector layers is that, if your vector layer has no fill, then double-clicking on the layer will bring up the controls for whatever type of fill you had before changing it to "no fill". That part is a bit confusing, but not too bad. The bigger problem is that, if you then try to change the fill from those controls, the vector shape remains unchanged after you click OK. So in other words, if my vector shape currently has no fill, and I double click it and select a new color from the color picker, obviously I want the shape to have that new color when I click OK, but instead nothing happens.
For those who like to answer questions that were not asked , I am aware that you can (finally!) change the fill type by clicking the appropriate fill button in the Options bar. I'm not talking about that right now.
I think the option to change the type of fill should be available in the color picker window, the gradient fill window, and the pattern fill window, so you can switch fill types on the fly.

The best (and recommended) way to change the fill of a shape layer is to use the option bar panels for the vector tools. These are going to give you the best up-to-date shape layer controls.
But we left in the legacy behavior of double-clicking on the layer thumbnail to change the fill options as a way of easing the transition to the new shape layers. We didn't make any changes to these dialogs or their overall behavior, which is why they don't allow you to change the fill type and why the layer appearance doesn't update if the fill is set to None in the options bar.

Yes certainly, we can do that, insert a smart shape and use it as a button, then go to the properties pane, change the Alpha to 0, that will make it transparent, and add the stroke color as red and increase the width.
In case of a button, you have to select button type as transparent and do the same.

Thanks for replying again. I've got a little bit further thanks to you. I tried the US keyboard layout as you seemed pretty definte that it should work. This time I applied the setting and also started the language toolbar and selected it from there.
Hey presto, I've got the @ where it should be. Excellent.
However the single quote ' works in a weird way. When I press it, it doesn't show up on the screen. But when I press another key, I get the single quote plus the next key I press. When I press the single quote twice, I get 2 of them. This is also the same with the SHIFT ' key. i.e. for the double quotes.
Very strange. I'll look at other keyboards and see where that gets me.

Please keep in mind that Aperture is not an enhanced iPhoto, it is a different application with a different philosophy and a different intended audience. If you approach it with that in mind you will have a lot less frustration as you learn Aperture.
Aperture adds a layer of complexity that is not needed by many. iPhoto is a very powerful application and fits the needs of many amateur photographers.
As for your original issue, as I said I am surprised that iPhoto allows you do switch countries like that and am not surprised that Aperture doesn't. If this is something you really need to do working in Aperture but using iPhoto to order the prints is a good work around and will not be all that difficult to do once you get the hang of it.
As for your new question, the books in iPhoto and Aperture are different enough that the code that created the book in iPhoto wouldn't work in Aperture. What happens when you import an iPhoto library into Aperture is that the images in the book are combined into an album in Aperture with the same name as the iPhoto book. You will need to re-create the book in Aperture uaing the images in this album.

I uploaded and edited my RAW image, clicked 'Save As', and changed the file type from .psed to .jpg.

When naming files, stick to the letters of the ENGLISH alphabet, numbers and underscores. Do not use illegal characters like apostrophes, commas, asterisks, ampersands, hatch or pound signs, diacritics or accented characters, slashes, etc.
While the period (dot) is not an illegal character per se, your file names should have only one period and that should always be followed by the file type extension.

I can see my pictures in "Recent" but when I double click a picture to make it big its just a big exclamation mark on the preview. What do I do? I also can't see the pictures to upload to facebook or email.....

I can't view pictures to attach to an email or upload to facebook it's just blank or shows an exclamation mark for each picture. I can see them in "recent" but if I double click on a picture to enlarge it it's just an exclamation mark again. What is wrong and how do I fix it?

Try these in order - from best option on down...
1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

This is hardware fault of LCD Display or Logic Board Display controllers. Restore iPhone with iTunes on computer. See if better. If still problem and you have Warranty or AppleCare, make Genius reservation and take to Apple for resolution. If no coverage, the next step would be replacement of entire front assembly. If still problem there is no resonable fix. If you want this handled by Apple, they do not replace iPhone 4S front screens, they replace the entire iPhone 4S exactly like yours for $199.

How do i print something double sided? the computer won't let me change the default settings or turn "two sided" on.

I need to print a paper double sided, but eveytime i go to the print options i can't change the setting to turn the "two sided" on. I don't think its a problem with the printer either.

If your printer doesn't do two sided printing (most don't) print the odd pages first, then flip the paper over and print the even pages. You will have to experiment to see how to flip the paper.
I do it by printing page 1, then flipping page one over and putting it back into the paper tray.
Then I print pages 2 and 3.
Remove the the completed page 1 and 2.
Flip page 3 over and print pages 4 and 5.
Repeat the process until you are done.

Magic mouse double click not operating. With iMac 24" and 10.6.8 bluetooth cannot discover the mouse and spins for ever, but mouse was working OK until 2 weeks ago. Now double click does not work, have to go to menu to open messages etc.. A nuisance.

You have turned VoiceOver on. You will need to go to Settings>General>Accessibility>VoiceOver and turn it off. However the gestures on your phone are different with this on. You have to use three fingers to scroll, and to tap an icon once so select it, the double-tap it to activate it. These are the steps you need to take to turn it off:
Press Home.
Tap Settings. Then double-tap Settings.
Tap General. Then double-tap General.
Use three fingers on the screen to scroll to Accessibility.
Tap Accessibility. Then double-tap Accessibility.
Tap VoiceOver. Then double-tap VoiceOver.
Tap "On" next to VoiceOver. Then double-tap "On" to turn it off.
