Double-Clicking Excel 2004 Docs Won't Open Them

Odd problem, not sure if there is a work-around:
I am using Excel 2004 which seems to work perfectly otherwise. When I double-click an Excel doc (.xls), it will open Excel itself, but the document will not load. The only way I can open an Excel document is to select Open from the File menu within Excel and navigate to and select the file. It cannot be opened from the Finder by any method I have tried.
Anybody got any thoughts?

Double Clicking files in Explorer won't open them in PS

Since I upgraded from Photoshop CS3 to CS5, I have been unable to open JPGs and GIFs by double clicking on them in WIndows Explorer -- though it will open PSD files that way. When I double-click a GIF or JPG file, it brings up the window asking what I want to open with. I select PS and tick the box "Always use the selected program" -- but it won't stay that way. I have tried to associate these file types with PS in Windows Explorer, but it is not working. In fact, JPG and GIF are not even listed in the file types list (though JPE and JPEG are)! They used to be. I've manually added them, and they will not stay. I don't see how this is a Windows XP problem, as I did not have this problem until I upgraded to CS5. Any ideas?

People report this from time to time, and it may be an XP integration problem because you are using modern Photoshop software on an old operating system. You can be sure the Adobe folks tested their CS5 installer more thoroughly on the current platforms. Many people seem to be hanging on to XP but it's time really has come and gone.
What you want (default "Open" associations with Photoshop CS5) should have been set up by the Adobe installer, but XP offers a manual way to set it up that you can try:
Open an Explorer window.
Choose Tools - Folder Options.
Click the File Types tab.
Scroll down to a file type of an image you'd like to open with Photoshop by default, and highlight it.
Click the [Change] button. What application is highlighted?
Highlight the Adobe Photoshop CS5 application, check the [ ] Always use the selected program to open this kind of file, and press OK.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

Can't double click include files within page to open them in CS3

In Dreamweaver 8, if I had a page that had an include file
in, and I wanted to edit the include file, all I had to do was
double click the include within the page I was working on, and the
include file would open up. This doesn't work in CS3 for me
although I think I have all the same preferences set. Can anyone
tell me how to bring back this very convenient feature?

Double-click in Files panel will not open a file

Double-click in Files panel will not open a file. Instead
alert message appears (I will translate from Czech): "Design notes
are not allowed for this file. If you want to use Design notes...".
I do not want use Design notes, I want to open a file from File
Panel.
The same issue is when opening by right-click/Open. The only
(and unconfortable) way to open a file from Files panel is to
right-click/Open in program/Dreamweaver, this works.

I have clean installation of up to date CS3 Design Premium
(Version 9.0 build 41) on WinXP SP2. Previous version of DW (v8)
worked fine in this way. Associations in system are set OK, I
think, because double-clicking in my file manager really opens for
examle PHP files in DW.

Also Drag & Drop from Files panel is not functioning.
Sometimes neither alert appears, simply nothing happen.
Note: I am trying usual files like PHP or HTML files, but

I can press ctrl for a new tab but otherwise a new tab does not open. I actually need help regarding this new Synch which apparently will be in Firefox automatically in an upcoming version so I am asking how that will synch with people who use LastPass-of course because I use this very successfully and really am not eager to change the set up that I have in place at this time.
I have read through endless FAQ trying to find anyone else who has this question or concern but have found nothing. Can you please tell me how that service will get along with LastPass which does basically the same thing as Synch-it is probably spelled wrong as it looks wrong to me but if I click back to where this issue began, I will lose all of this question so please respond for the upcoming service synch.

Actually I am using Windows 8 (Not 8.1) and Adobe Reader Version XI (11.0.06)
Now, the exact problem I am facing is that there are certain types of pdf files I am being sent which are Password pritected (it may not be a necessary condition, i don;t know) and after I have keyed-in the correct password, it flashes the message- "Double-click here to open your file". Now while using the earlier versions of Adobe (or maybe Windows) I used to see a peculiar Pin-shaped object on the screen, double-clicking which used to open the file. That object is somehow missing this time, so I have no place to double-click. Therefore I am not able to open the file.I may add that I have recently moved to Windows 8 from XP, so my knowledge of Windows 8 is not up to mark. Can you please help?

After waking from sleep, my iMac (Lion) is unresponsive. The mouse moves, but when I click things it won't open them.

This has happened EVERY time the iMac goes to sleep for the last few days.. the only way I have found to resolve the issue is to manually restart the computer each time via the button on the back of the iMac.

FWIW, I never sleep my machines or their HDs, just their displays and never have an issue waking up the displays, usually run 24/7. Give that a shot.

I have an Illustrator CS5 (15.0.2) running on Windows 7 Pro. Here are the symptoms: when double clicking the Illustrator file once the application is already open, the file will not open. You will see an hourglass for a few seconds, but no file contents are displayed. However, if I were to close Illustrator application and then double click on the file, Illustrator will open the file correctly. Additionally, if I go to File -- Open and manually select the file, it also opens the file correctly. Only double clicking the file once the Illustrator application is already open does not work.
Has anyone seen this issue and knows how-to fix it?

Right click on a .ai file and choose properties, check to see what application is set to open .ai files. Try running in 32 bit mode.
