Double clicking or clicking anywhere in Safari opens new tab with Mackeeper and other unknown websites.

The solution provided in the other discussions are not working for me. The 'vsearch' solution given in other discussions doesnt work.
I dont know what I have downloaded but now whenever I type anything in safari or click or double click then a new tab opens with mackeeper link and other unknown websites.
Thanks in Advance.

You may have some other adware besides Downlite (aka VSearch). In addition, you may have a newer variant of Downlite, which is using a variety of new names after having the last two variants blocked by the anti-malware feature built into Mac OS X.
Your profile indicates you are running Mac OS X 10.6.7, in which case you will not be able to use dominic23's suggestion (AdwareMedic requires 10.7 or later). Apple's support document on removing adware may help, but you'll find a more complete list of adware in my Adware Removal Guide.
You may also have a variant of Downlite that is not described in any of these documents and that is not yet recognized by AdwareMedic. I believe that there is a new variant that uses a variety of different names based on unknown criteria, either defined by different installers or determined at install time by some characteristic of the machine that it is installed on. Look in the following folders:
/Library/LaunchAgents
/Library/LaunchDaemons
If you find a file named "com.xxx.agent.plist" (where the "xxx" part can be anything) in the first folder and files named "com.xxx.daemon.plist" and "com.xxx.helper.plist" in the second, please report back here for further advice.

  • Clicking on External Link in Safari Opens New Tab

I think it has to do with one of the preferences I've set within Safari but I just can't put a finger on which one.
Basically, I reinstalled Yosemite 10.10.3 on my MacBook Pro 13" (Late 2013) about a week ago. And then I tinkered with Safari preferences.
Since then, whenever I click on an external link, for example, an email address, Safari opens a New Tab instead of launching my Mail app.
Not sure how to do undo this.

From the Mail menu bar, select
Mail ▹ Preferences... ▹ General ▹ Default email reader: Mail
If you don't use Mail, you may be able to set the preference in the mail client you do use.

  • Safari opens new tabs extremely slow

My post is very similar to this one.
Since I got Safari 4, opening new tabs has been painful when having Safari open (in the background) for a longer period of time.. When starting Safari and doing stuff with tabs, no problem! However, after a couple of days, when I press +t to get a new tab, I have to wait (spinning wheel of death) 4 to 60 seconds for the new tab to appear.. This hangs my complete OS, not just Safari!
I am having this same problem on: Mac Mini early 2009 with Leopard + Safari 4, Macbook Pro Early 2008 (first penryn), Leopard and Snow Leopard with Safari 4, and now on my new MBP (mid 2009) Snow Leopard with Safari 4...
It is reaaallllly annoying (since opening tabs should be fast), and I suspect this has to do with the fact that I have 'Top Sites' as default page (Top Sites displays when I open up a new tab)...
I've turned that off now, to see if I still experience slowdowns, but this would mean loss of a great feature that I really like..
Please reply / post if you need more info

First of all, you don't need to use Top Sites as your default page; change that to an Empty Page and leave it that way. If you want to access Top Sites, there's a button on your Toolbar to do that.
Next, try this to solve your other problem(s):
    1. Go to Home/Library/Cookies and delete the Cookies.plist file.
    2. Go to Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
    3. Go to Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Web Page Previews and delete the contents of that folder.
    4. If you don't want to use the Top Sites or Cover Flow features, open Terminal and paste in this command:
defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSnapshotsUpdatePolicy -int 2
then press Enter or Return and quit Terminal
    5. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
    6. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
    7. Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete these files (if you have them):
    Downloads.plist
    History.plist
    Form Values
    LastSession.plist
    WebpageIcons.db
Then Repair Permissions, restart Safari and see if the speed is improved.

  • Open new tab with home page

when i click on a new tab it want it to go to my home page not "new tab". Under tabs in options there is no option to set a new tab to open my home page.

Open a new tab with the home page that you have set in Options > General:
    *CTRL+left-click the "Home" icon
An Add-on that will open your selected page (set in the Add-ons options, see below) when clicking the New Tab ("+") icon:
    *'''''New TabURL''''': http://sogame.awardspace.com/newtaburl/
*after installing, set the options for '''''New TabURL''''': Add-ons > Extensions, click the Add-on name, click Options

  • Whenever I open new tabs Firefox crashes and the browser window closes automatically.what will I do?

I am facing this problem since a month.I never faced this problem before.I always feel good to use Mozilla Firefox as my browser.I used to open multiple tabs in a same browser window. For example- in a tab I logged in to Facebook,at same time I might be downloading songs or something else or open another site in the other tab.It might be 2 or 3 tabs sometimes. But now a days,I am facing the problem whenever I open multiple tabs. Its unusual and so much annoying. The Firefox crashes and the browser window closes showing a messege to send an error report. Please Help me.
N.B. - I am using the Windows service pack 2.
    RAM - 2 GB
Hard disk MEmory - 250 GB.

I had this same problem. Seems to be caused by the web developer tool bar FF extension (this started happening after a recent update to that extension). After disabling it, my FF is back to normal :)

  • Can't open new tabs with double left click on tab bar in FF29.0.1?

I've always enjoyed how tabs work in FF, mainly with them being on the bottom (which I had to find a work-around for by making the userChrome.css file - the "about:config" modification no longer works) and also being able to double left click on the tab bar to create new tabs.
With the most recent update, double left clicking on the tab bar no longer has a function, and to create new tabs, I must now middle click. It's not a big deal really, but is there a way to change this back?
I searched through some options on the "about:config" page, searched "tab" and found an option there: "browser.tabs.opentabfor.middleclick" that seemed promising. I changed the value to "False" but it didn't change anything - in fact, middle clicking still creates new tabs.
I tried adding a modified function with "leftclick" in it, just to see if it might do anything but, nothing.
Any other suggestions for restoring the double left click function to create new tabs? Thanks!

    ''Hydrilus wrote:''
    browser.tabs.opentabfor.middleclick
If set to false, middle-clicking <u>links on web pages</u> opens them in a new window. It probably also affects bookmarks, history entries, and items in the address bar drop-down menu.

You need an add-on. Here are two I know about:
    * [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/classicthemerestorer/ Classic Theme Restorer]. In the add-on's option window, click the Special tab and check "Tabs toolbar: double click opens a new tab"
    * [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/tab-mix-plus/ Tab Mix Plus]. In the add-on's option window, click the Mouse icon, then the Mouse Clicking tab, then the Double-click tab below that. • Wont open new tab with link is clicked

Since upgrading to from FF-6 to FF-7, when I click on a text link it doesn't open up in new tab, it just goes to the link within the same window. I've confirmed that I have the tab setting in FF7 set to open a new tab instead of a window, and Google settings set to open links in new tabs, but since the upgrade it all stopped working. No other software has been added or changed, just the new FF7 installed. Any thoughts, or is this a bug?

I uninstalled the Ask.com toolbar and the problem was resolved.

  • I want to open new tabs with other ones open. So I click the + button for tabs and it does nothing. I right click and click new tab and still nothing. How do I get that feature to work again.

I click the + button to open a new tab and it doesn't do anything, not even open a new tab. I try to right click and open a new tab and still don't work. But if I right click a link and click open in new tab it will work. How do I get to open my tabs again with the + button?

Uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:
    * Check the Windows Control panel for the Ask Toolbar - http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4
    * Also check your list of extensions, you may be able to uninstall it from there - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons

    2.Checking in Firefox plugins,addons
    3.About:config of firefox also
But i can't get any solution Please help me about how i can remove this problm otherwise i have to work on another browser.

hello gaj0pawar, you can either install the [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/searchreset/ searchreset addon] to get rid of the problem or manually reset the page that opens on each new tab.
enter '''about:config''' into the firefox location bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up), search for the preference named '''browser.newtab.url''' and double-click & change its value to about:blank (the default would be about:newtab which shows thumbnails & links to your most visited pages).

  • Open new tab with home page displaying

i want to know if when you open a new tab your home page can automatically appear instead of a empty page. How can you do this? thank you

You can do that by using an add-on such as:
    * NewTabURL - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/newtaburl
    * New Tab Homepage - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/new-tab-homepage
Another way of opening the home page in a new tab is to middle click on the home button in the navigation toolbar.

  • How do I get Firefox to open new tabs with my homepage instead of the top sites?

When I open a new tab, I get the top sites page. I want this to open to my home page.
I already changed my home page in the tool and when I go to it now, it still says what I want my home page to be, but new tabs still open wrong

By default in Firefox a new tab opens a blank page. You have something installed which changed that action, and that "something" sounds like it may not be working correctly.

  • FF7 will not open new tab with new window. overwrites same tab. If I manually open a new tab, then the new window appears there. In previous versions, the new window would automatically open a new tab. This tab 'overwriting' ia very annoying.

You won't let me! The 'red' prompt says I have use more than 255 characters.

By accident, after nearly an hour of playing with FF7, I discovered that by pushing down (like a button) on the scroll wheel or holding down CTRL key will open a new tab to the right of existing tabs when selecting a bookmarked site or link within a webpage.
