Double error messages

Howdy! I've been doing net installs on a lab of eMacs for a while now. Suddenly, out of the blue, I get two error messages when the network installer comes up. The first message (which I will reproduce in full since searching by message content often gives you a paucity of results) goes like this
WARNING!
You can not install on this disk.
This disk is smaller than source, select another Destination
The image is 4.5GB. The hard drives are 40GB. "Erase destination" is enabled. Then on top of that error appears:
/Volumes/Macintosh HD
The above volume was not found.
This volume was selected for an automated install.
Opening terminal and typing 'mount' shows that the appropriate disk is in fact mounted at /Volumes/Macintosh HD. If I unmount it and remount it it doesn't work. Likewise it says "Install from Network Volume Macintosh HD" which is wrong (it should say "eMac" which is the name of the image, not Macintosh HD, the local hard disk.)
If I erase the disk manually in Disk Utility, then click through the installer again it works. This is not a show stopper but it does make the "automated install" kinda not-so-automated.
I should also mention that the problem is intermittent. Sometimes the automated install goes off without a hitch but usually it gives me these error.
There are other things for me to try (older images, isolating the network, etc) but if anyone has anything they can suggest off the top of their head, I'd be most appreciative!
both server and clients are 10.4.7. server is an xserve and clients are emacs.
Thanks,

I have run into this a few times. It seems that the install starts but then fails with the messages you listed. When that happens, I found that I often times had to go to Disk Utility (from the Netinstall/Utilities menu) and repartion the disk.
The problem seems to come up when I am trying to image either a number of machines ( more than 10 or so) or when network traffic is somewhat heavier than normal. I suspect it has to do with possibly dropped data "corrupting" the netinstall process after the NI starts BUT before it can actually complete the install of the software from the image. If I force all of the systems to restart from the same restart command (using ARD III) I do not run into the problem anywhere near as often. This also points me toward net traffic level being invoved.
That is just my guess.

  • ! Double Error Messages in error page !

    I got two identical Oracle error messages for "ORA-02292: integrity constraint (xxx) violated " in HTMLDB error page which is using printer-friendly template. I know that I can customize the first error message by changing the "Error Page Template Control" section in the template. I have no idea where does the second message come from. I've even tried a blank template but still got two error messages. Please help me on this urgent issue. Any thoughts will be appreciate. Thank you!

    Sergio and Scott,
    Thanks for your prompt responses. After I reviewed the HTML source generated from HTMLDB, I found out that the second error message was generated in between the template "Body" and "Footer". Now, the trick I use to bypass the second error message is to add "<!--" at the end of "Body" and "-->" at the beginning of "Footer"....Voila!!!Here comes the nice and clean error message page....

  • I can open my new InDesign files by going up through the menu and opening that way, but when I try to just double click on an InDesign file I get error messages telling me that certain plugins aren't available.

    I upgraded my Mac a few weeks ago to 10.10.2 Yosemite, and I joined the Adobe cloud so I could get access to all the new apps. I read a blurb somewhere about converting older InDesign files to the new CC version I'd have to open the old files in my old InDesign CS3, export to an ins file, then open that file in the new InDesign CC, then export it again to an idml file, then open that file and you shouldn't have any of the usual conversion problems. For the first few files I had to convert, it worked just fine. Now for some reason, whenever I try to open one of these converted files just by double-clicking on the file itself, I get an error message that says, "The document ____ uses one or more plug-ins which are currently not available on your system. Do you want to open anyway?" When I click OK, then I get another error message that says, "Cannot open ____. Please upgrade your plug-ins to their latest versions, or upgrade to the latest version of Adobe InDesign." I thought this CC version of InDesign was the newest. Can somebody please tell me what gives with this? Any help will be very much appreciated.

    Did you reinstall CS3 after CC?
    For that matter, doing an in-place upgrade on the OS is always a gamble with Adobe programs. Reinstalling all the versions you need, in order, would probably solve your problem.
    And you shouldn't need to save as IDML after opening the .inx in CC.

  • RH7 HTML - Receive IE script error message when double-clicking link to auto-size pop-up

    Hi, all,
    Anybody ever seen this situation? When double-clicking on a link to an auto-size pop-up, I get the following Internet Explorer script error message:
    This error also occurs when I double-click the link in preview mode within the project. A colleague that is running the same version of IE with the same settings is not receiving this error. A couple of other co-workers are running a different version of IE, and one gets this error and one does not.
    This error does not occur if you single-click the link (which you would normally do), nor does it occur if you double-click a link to a fixed-size pop-up. Once you receive this message and click Yes or No, the link sometimes works correctly when you double-click. I haven't been able to establish a pattern. Also, if you single click the link to display the pop-up, click off of it, and then double-click the link, the error does not occur.
    As you can tell by now, this problem is kind of hard to pin down. I've done some research and I have yet to stumble upon anything that deals with this issue. Unless there is a solution out there, I can do one of two things: 1) change all of the auto-size pop-ups in the project to fixed-sized, which defeats the purpose of creating auto-size pop-ups, or 2) tell our customer not to double-click links.
    Any advice you could give would be welcome.

    Hi there
    Indeed it has been reported on many occasions over the years. Unless someone like Willam has some way cool error detection magick with the scripts, the best approach we have always offered is this.
    Educate your users on the way computers and HTML works. HTML works using SINGLE clicks, not DOUBLE clicks.
    The reason for the error is because the first click caused the computer to launch a JavaScript command to open the sized popup. The second click that followed in rapid succession confused things by asking the script to stop what it was doing and run again.
    Maybe it would help to explain it to your users like this. If you visited a restaurant and when the server asked what you wanted to order, would the become confused if you said to them: I'll have the T-Bone Steak and nearly immediately you repeated it by saying again I'll have the T-Bone Steak.
    Cheers... Rick

    Airport Express- No internet connection. I am getting the following error messages- No DNS Server and Double SAT.  Can anyone walk me through a fix

    Try putting these numbers in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers, for the Interface you connect with...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Then Apply. For 10.5/10.6 Network, highlight Interface>Advanced button>DNS tab>little + icon.
    Might also put them in the Airport Express, no idea what Double SAT is!?

  • Error Message when Double-clicking a CS4 InDesign File; Won't Open

    I recently installed CS4, upgrading from CS2. Before installing CS4, I could double-click the icon for the file and it would open in InDesign CS2. After installing CS4, when I double-click an InDesign file icon, I get an error message that Windows cannot open the file and needs to know which program should be used. I check the "Select the program from a list" and a window opens that lists several of the applications I have installed. Neither InDesign versions are on the list, so I "Browse" to the Adobe folder in which both InDesigns reside. I then select a version (it doesn't matter which one; neither work) but then it doesn't appear in the list and my "selection" reverts to the "recommended" Photoshop CS4.
    I can understand if this function has disappeared in CS4, and we now have to open a file using the "open" menu item, but I can't understand why neither verison "sticks" in the "Open With" window.
    Any suggestions? I'm using Windows XP SP2.
    Thanks,
    Lloyd

    That's what I thought. I tried the folder options association trick at http://forums.adobe.com/message/2864550#2864550, which kind of worked.  Now, when I double-click on an InDesign file icon, InDesign CS4 opens,  but the file does NOT open. Looks like I'll have to reinstall, unless  someone has an addition to the solution.
    Thanks!

  • Error message when double-clicking icon to open document, won't open

    My documents will not open when I double click their icon. They will open when dragged to the application icon or from the application itself. I get an error message if I try to open by double-clicking the icon. This is for In-Design, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. Is this a simple fix?
    Thank you.

    Select one of the icons in question and do a Get Info on it.
    You will be presented with the standard Get Info window telling you, amongst other things, what the default program is to open the file.
    You can also select "Use this application to open all similar douments like this".
    See if that helps.
    Normally the finder will do this for you so there may be other issues going on with your user preferences.

    Can anybody tell me why it is doing this? Thanks in advance!
    import java.util.Scanner;
    public class Rectangle
         public double length;
         public double width;
         public Rectangle()
              length = 0;
              width = 0;
         public double getSides()
              return length;
              return width;
         public void setSides(double length, double width)
              this.length = length;
              this.width = width;
         public double area(double length, double width)
              double area = length * width;
              return area;
         public double perimeter(double length, double width)
              double perimeter = (length * 2) + (width * 2);
              return perimeter;
         public String toString()
              return "Area: " + Rectangle.area() + "\tCircumference: " + Rectangle.perimeter();
         public static void main(String [] args)
              Rectangle R = new Rectangle();
              Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
              System.out.println("Enter radius: ");
              R.setSides(input.nextDouble());
              System.out.println(R.toString());
    }

    Looking at your code more, it looks like what you want to do when you call area is get the area of the Rectangle based on the length and width it already has stored, not what you pass it. So if you take out the parameters like this:
    public double area() {
         double area = length * width;
         return area;
    }It will use the member variables length and width to calculate area.

  • When I double-click the desktop icon I get an error message: XUL RUNNER error: Platform version '2.0.1' is not compatible with minVersion =5.0 maxVersion =5.0. I must right click the icon and choose 'RUN OUTSIDE THE SANDBOX' to open the browser.

    This problem occurred shortly after updating to Firefox 5.0 I kept getting reminders to update to 5.0 When I finally decided to update, the first 4 or 5 attempts failed for one reason or another always with a different error message At some point after and extended shutdown of the computer 5.0 was initiated.

    The updater wasn't able to update all the files and some were left as older versions.
    You need to do a clean reinstall.
    Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 5.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version.
    * Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
    Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
    Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Error message for double entry of a phone type.

    Hi. From "Phone Number" form i am trying to add for second time the phone type "Home" and i get an Error Message "APP-PAY-51530: Only one active phone number is allowed. Action: Delete existing home phone, or use secondary home phone type."
    This message is correct. I want to add the same message also for phone type "Mobile" because now the application allows to add it more than one time.
    Does anybody knows how can i add a new error massage?

    Hi Rachel,
    You can make use of the exit (Include) MV45AFZZ. The corresponding form routine is FORM USEREXIT_SAVE_DOCUMENT_PREPARE.
    In this exit, For the given billing document ( which is going to be cancelled ), pick up the accouting document from BSEG tables.
    For this accouting document, Pass this to BSAD Table ( Customer clleared items)
    If BSEG-BELNR = BSAD-BELNR and
      BSEG-Acc.Year = BSAD-Acc,year )..
    Then throw a error message and EXIT.
    So for all the cleared docments , user can not cancel the invoices.
    Regards,

  • Double charged due to error messages.

    I was trying to rent the first season of The Walking Dead and when I hit buy it would sit there for a long time saying buying then a message popped up that said "Unable to purchase because the connection timed out." So I tried again and it gave me the same message. I restart my computer, open iTunes and it says I have files awaiting download. I go to the downloads page and it has all the videos in there twice... So I guess the error message didn't state that when your connection comes back we'll finish the transaction(s). What's the phone number I call to get this resolved?

    OK, I'm pretty sure this all used to happen within the iTunes interface, but I've just tried it and there's a *Get Customer Service* web page with a bunch of grey FAQ style text links in the middle of the window. Towards the end of this list are options for *Music Purchases* and *Video Purchases*. Drill down through the TV purchases one and you will get an *Email Us* button which will allow you send a message to the correct team.
