Double install? GLITCH?

Hello ASC,
I have had my IPad for around a year now and accumulated over 190 applications. I have experienced problems with my iPad before, but they were only really subtle, and seemed to fix themselves with time or a reset. This one is a little obnoxious, I took screenshots at the time, but I can't figure out how to include them in this post :/ I'll do my best to describe what is going on.
So I downloaded a new app from the App Store, 'Running Dead' (zombie game) and went to the home screen, there was the app on page 2. I then moved it over to screen 4 then placed it outside any folders. The funky thing I noticed at this point was that everything shifted over as if I placed something in the top left corner, when I placed the app in an empty spot at the bottom, there was no icon taking up any space in that top left 'square' I tried moving around some icons to see if I could fill the empty space but that empty area behaved as if it already had an app in that area, but tapping it did nothing and I could not move it around with my finger. (Here is where I get a bit fuzzy on the details.) When I moved the newly downloaded app into a folder, (the app is still downloading) it appears transparent and tapping it does nothing nor can I move it, a lot like that empty space I was dealing with outside the folder. Then outside the folder the empty space is gone and the app is at the bottom fully opaque. When it finishes downloading and installing, one icon is normal, and one still says it is still installing with the load bar full. Both are opaque but the 'installing' one doesn't do anything and It cannot be moved directly. I have considered reinstalling the app, but maybe I should hold onto this situation and see if I can prove anything further?

First of all, you should've been more careful about your tone. You could've said 'please explain to us...' instead of bossing me around like that.
Secondly, I got an Apple ID because I'd always purchased my Apple products (MacBooks, MBP, iPhone, iTouch, Operating Systems, softwares, etc.) legally. I had pirated Mountain Lion on my new computer because I bought a used MBP, and I figured since my old ML had problems, then it must have been a pirated one.
Third, I purchased Mountain Lion, and just followed the instructions and re-installed it.

  • ITunes 11.0.2 (64-bit) installing glitch for Windows 7

I've tried several times to download and install iTunes version 11.0.2 (64-bit) onto my Dell computer which uses Windows 7. I've never had iTunes on this computer before, and last night was the first time I've tried to install the program. The file downloads completely, but the installation process stops and glitches at the "Publishing product information" step every single time.
Here is the error message: "An error occured during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.CRT,type="win32",version="8.0.50727.4053",publicKeyToken="1fc8b 3b9a1e18e3b",processorArchitecture="amd64". Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x800736FD."
    Steps already taken:
    - Deleting the downloaded file
    - Re-downlaoding the file from iTunes website
    - Restarting the computer
    - Downloading the file from Apple Updater
Big thanks to anyone that can help!

Were you able to resolve this?  You didn't by chance upgrade to Internet Explorer 10?  If yes, read on ...
I have a similar post that had some of your symptoms.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5006678
Turns out that in order to get the installer to work, I had to lower security settings in IE 10.  Not because it's the browser I use (it's not) but because the security settngs in IE 10 affect the overall system.  If you reduce the security settings to something ridiculously low and try it, let us know what happens.
I wish I could offer the exact steps I took, but I don't recall which security settings it was.  Start with ActiveX controls and "allowing unsigned content to run on my PC."  Of course once iTunes installs, set it back to defaults.

  • HT1338 Mountain Lion double install?

    Hi,
I have recently got a MacBook Pro Retina and have installed Mountain Lion twice.
Is it possible to do so and if so does it use up space on my hard drive?
    Cheers

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Probably it took space on the hard disk, but it shouldn't be a lot. You can ignore it because your Mac will work correctly

  • Double install of iPod software on XP pro

I see in my "Add or remove programs" the iPod installed twice, but with different dates of installation.
Each of them use 119 MB of disk space which is quite a lot.
Do I need to keep both installs or can I remove the oldest one?
    Thanks.
PC Notebook Solo   Windows XP Pro   I use Opera browser.

You can delete all of them if you want. It is the iPod Updater software. It's not needed unless you are going to Restore or update the iPod.
I recommend you keep the latest version that works on your iPod in case you need to Restore the iPod.

  • Double Install Mountain Lion

Is it okay to install (again) OS X Mountain Lion when already is running OS X Mountain Lion? I think I got the bad one the first time I installed it (it was pirated, couldn't update to 10.8.1 or 10.8.2)

  • IPhone 4 Problems (Slow, Not Loading, Double Install)

Hello, my Verizon iPhone 4 has been acting progressivly worse lately. The phone is sluggish and especially laggy in games and other apps (even a clock app where the second hand 'lurches'). Today I installed a new app and it had the icon on two separate screens (I had to power off/on the phone to get it fixed). Also, the app store takes forever to load or just stops loading (even on fast wifi). Anyone else have these problems or have a suggestion? I did a full restore not long ago with no real improvement. The phone is ~1.5 years old.

what i would do is a 'hard reset', meaning hold the on/off button and the home button until the slider appears and ignore it until the apple logo appears. you could also try restoring as new, but you will have to reload all your stuff. make sure you back up first.

  • How do I delete an IOS update that was downloaded in iTunes but not yet installed on iPad

I am currently running IOS 5.1.1 on my iPad.  When IOS 6 came out, I connected my iPad to my computer and checked for the update through iTunes 10.7.0.21.  When it found it, I had it only download it and not install it.  I have yet to install IOS 6 and I now see that the iPad shows IOS 6.01 as an update.  But, if I connect the iPad to my computer and fire up iTunes, it says IOS 6 is ready to be installed.
How do I remove IOS 6 from iTunes and have it recheck and find IOS 6.01 without installing the IOS 6 first?  Is it possible.  I tried removing the iPad2,3_6.0_10A403_Restore file from the c://users/USER/AppData/Roaming/Apple Computer/iTunes/iPad Software Updates folder and restart iTunes but it still tells me that IOS 6 is ready to be installed.
I would like to remove IOS 6 from iTunes so that I can download the IOS 6.01 version and go straight to that instead of installing IOS 6 first and then having to download and install IOS 6.01 after.
    Any thoughts greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    - Dan

    James Ward4,
    Thanks for your quick reply.
Although I could install directly to the iPad, I prefer to go through iTunes so I have a copy of the install file just in case of install issues.
As for downloading the newer update to iTunes, could you elaborate on that.  The only way I know how to download the update is to connect the iPad to the computer and fire up iTunes and then have it check for updates.  Problem now is that since IOS 6 is sitting there waiting to be installed, I don't have the option to check for updates, just to install IOS 6.
As for installing IOS 6 first and then installing IOS 6.01, I was hoping to avoid the double install if I could while still going through iTunes.
    Thanks again for your thoughts.

  • Can I install Windows 7 upgrade version with Bootcamp on my MAC Book Pro?

I currently don't have Windows on my Mac book Pro.  I am trying to avoid the high cost of the full version.   My friend said they knew someone who was able to use the upgradable version to install it on their PC using bootcamp.
Also is Parallell really worth the extra cost?  I will be primary working on my OS OPsystem and only need windows for a few specific things.

    Csound1 wrote:
Have you actually tried to install an upgrade version of Windows 7 without a previous version of Windows installed ?
FYI: Google "Windows 7 upgrade double install".  This was primarily to do clean installs of Windows Vista using the upgrade product keys, but it still works with Windows 7.  I use this technique for cases where the owner upgraded to Win7, but didn't make the recovery disks of XP when they originally got the computer (and the computer didn't come with recovery disks,) then the HD fails and so we have to install Windows 7 from scratch to a new HD using the upgrade product keys without any previous copy of Windows.

  • Silent Install Firefox 29 Windows

I've been scouring the internet for a while looking for a way to do a silent install of Firefox via command-line. As I have come to find out, the -ms and /INI methods only work in much older versions of Firefox.
When I try the -ms silent install, the first half of the install works fine, until it gets to the second half. As it appears, the second half first asks for the admin password (which is doesn't need), then it proceeds with the very visible second half of the install (another click to download and install Firefox and another useless ask for the admin password).
What I think is happening is that the first installer is actually just installing another installer (into the appdata/temp folder) then opening that installer, and deleting it when it's done. This second installer doesn't support the -ms command when run on it's own.
    Anyone got any ideas?

    Found the answer.
I went in and reported this to bugzilla, and after talking it over with someone, it was revealed that there are no plans to include silent install for the general "stub" based installer. But the silent install ''does'' work if you use the ''full'' installer (which doesn't use the double install process found in the general installer, and can only be downloaded here: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/ )
The full installer does support regular -ms silent install. To get rid of the admin permission requests, just run it elevated (aka: run as admin).
After this conversation, the mozilla wiki was updated accordingly: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Installer:Command_Line_Arguments

  • Use Time Machine to Migrate Apps or Re-Install Anew?

I bought a new 15" MacBook Pro a month ago and have used Migration Assistant to move all my files from my external drive, which were backed up from the old computer via Time Machine to this drive.  I have been advised that this is a BAD IDEA, and that I should re-install my old software onto the new computer, and only use the migration assistant for moving DOCUMENT files to the new computer. Prior to receiving this advice, I had pro-actively reinstalled my entire Adobe Creative Suite Master Collection to this new computer's application folder, so the entire suite is installed on my new computer.  The Creative Suite has now been installed on the new computer, and is also sitting on the new computer via the Migration Assistant process which brought EVERYTHING from the old computer to the new.
Should the Creative Suite Files in the Applications folder, which migrated via Migration Assistant, be REMOVED since they were already reinstalled on this new computer?  Does anyone have some advice about this? I had heard that software should always be "REINSTALLED" as oppose to "copied" onto a new computer...
    Thanks for any advice!!

    wait, i'm not understanding something.
you say that you installed (via install disc) your whole suite AND migrated your apps over, so you have a double installation???
i just wiped out my boot drive and re-installed everything manually (to clean up and prepare for LION upgrade, plus get rid of some apps...migration assistant brings EVERYTHING OVER, which is annoying, so the only way to leave stuff out was to start fresh and only install what i wanted).
the first thing you should do is open up each version of each application to see which ones the licenses are tied to.  in some CS installs, you have to de-authorize a version before you can install another version.  it's possible that one version will work and the other one won't.
in any case, i think having 2 versions in the app folder doesn't really matter, it just takes up extra space.  you only want one version (whichever one works) anyway.  in my particular instance, i have a site license, so i can install it wherever without the de-authorization problem.
i've succesffully migrated using migration assistant as well as copied a bootable clone back to my machine.  it's definitely cleaner to do a fresh re-install, but i think it might be too late for that since you double-installed.
again, figure out which version works.  if they both work, you could probably get rid of either one.  all the plists and application support files, plug-ins should be for the migrated version if you accumulated those things over time before you mirated over.  just make sure that those are tied to the version that works and get rid of the other.

  • Office SP1 installed, but superceded Lync update still wants to install

Hello all, I had the same question in the SCCM forum and they told me to repost the same question here.  So my machine is Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 x64 running newly downloaded Office 2013 ProPlus w/ SP1 direct from MS.  I did not install the SP1
myself, I used the complete ISO off the volume license center that includes SP1. Loaded the updated OCT files from
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35554 to fix the install glitch as is documented.  Installed with customized OCT msp file.
I installed my updates deployed via SCCM 2012 R2 CU1, using all office 2013 updates, not expired or superseded.  I installed all of my published/deployed updates, but when running updates through Microsoft Update using Online, I see
Update for Microsoft Lync 2013 (KB2817678) 32-bit Edition as an update that is needed.  I check and this update
IS SUPERSEDED by the SP1 (
    http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Search.aspx?q=2850036 ).
That made me question do I actually have Office 2013 SP1 installed.  Checked the version number as documented "In order to determine whether SP1 is already installed, you can look for the program version in the list of installed programs
in the Programs and Features Control Panel item. If SP1 is installed, the version will be 15.0.4569.1506 or higher."
Mine shows, "15.0.4569.1506" so it is installed.
Now that you have the background, why is it asking me to install an update SP1 supersedes when I have SP1 installed?

  • How do I find out what's eating up my hard drive space?

I installed Leopard quite a while back on my 1,8 GHz PowerPC G5 tower. I had to try twice and call Apple support because I was having problems installing it. I never seem to have much hard drive space, and I don't really have much on this computer. My iTunes library takes up a bit of room, but there's really not much else on the hard drive. I cleaned out some old stuff tonight and made some room, but I am wondering how much of my space is eaten up by the previous OS. Also wondering if Leopard is on here twice because of the double install attempt.
I am trying to make room to install Logic Express 8. So where are the OS's on here so I can trash anything extraneous, and is there a way -- other than individually Apple I'ing everything -- to see what's taking up so much space on my hard drive. As you can probably tell, I'm not the most computer literate person. Thanks.

Try a program such as Disk Inventory X or OmniDiskSweeper.

  • How do i transfer some files and applications to and make my ssd a bootable drive

I have a mbp 2009.  i'm using the owc data doubler - installing 250gb ssd and keeping my 250 HDD.  I want to transfer some apps and files from the HDD to the SSD and make the SSD the bootable drive.  I'm not too familiar with teh inner-workings, so i'd appreciate a step-by-step instruction

First - if you want to have the SSD as your boot drive, put it in your hard drive bay and put your hard drive in the optical bay. MacBook Pros 'expect' the boot drive to be in the main bay - not the secondary bay.
After you've made the swap, hold down the option key whilst booting and select your hard drive to start up. Once you've booted, use Disk Utility to format the SSD ("Mac OS Extended (Journaled)") with a single GUID partition. Now you'll be ready to start moving things around.
The best thing you can do - since the HD and the SSD are the same size - is simply to use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone your 'old' drive to the SSD. Then you can boot from the SSD, erase (reformat) your hard drive and then move any files on the SSD that you want on your HD. If I were you, I would try to keep most of your music, photos & other docs on the HD and your applications, etc., on the SSD. DO NOT just move your entire user directory to the HD as there are likely some files that are expected to be found in your user folder (the user Library, etc.).
    Easy enough?

Microsoft has made it known that Windows 10 will be a free upgrade to Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users. I think its time we have a discussion on the Dell Community Forums about Windows 10.
Post #1 Windows 10 Digital Deployment and How to Leave Feedback to Microsoft
Windows 10 will likely be released in Late Summer.
The deployment methods of Windows 10 are still not yet fully known. I advise Microsoft deploy Windows 10 in a certain way so end-users can readily repair an installation or reinstall on a new hard drive or a corrupt install.

How Could Microsoft Release the Update?
Scenario 1 and 2 will cause issues.
    Scenario 1: "Windows Update (Only)"
Update 19/03/2015 Microsoft have made it known they will provide a .iso and hence not enforce a Windows Update only Upgrade path. Looks like they are taking some steps in the correct direction.
This .iso should be available for download and reinstallation but it hasn't been stated how product keys will be issued. Provided a key is issued correctly (i.e. sent to a user in an email or linked to a Microsoft Account as in scenario 3) the user should be able to download the .iso at a later date and not need to carry out a double install for reinstallation.
    Source:
    http://channel9.msdn.com/Events/WinHEC/2015/OWD100
    Scenario 2: "A Key for a Key"
Update 18/03/2015 Free Windows 10 Upgrade for Chinese Pirates: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-31940716
In such cases the Windows 7 Product Key probably won't be needed. Microsoft aren't likely to appease pirates while simultaneously making life difficult for genuine customers.
    COA Issues
If users have to input their 25 digit Windows 7 product key from their COA. In theory this would work.
In practice however if this is the only method of installation for the free upgrade then there is a problem for a large fraction of the Windows 7 OEM userbase. Microsoft provided OEMs such as Dell with COAs of terrible print quality. This didn't matter for Windows 7 OEM as OEM installation media input a generic Dell OEM SLP key.
A case like this is not uncommon and is more common for other OEMs as Dell shielded COAs by placing them under the battery.
Scenario 3: Windows 10 .iso and Product Key Linked to Microsoft Account
This is the only logically working scenario that I can see is a utility which performs the following functions:
Checks the Base Windows License is Genuine*
Tells user to Sign in with a Microsoft Account
Assigns a Product Key to the Microsoft Account (similar to Office Online)
Gives the user an option to install Windows 10 via Windows Update or to Create Installation Media for Clean Installation
End User can later sign in with their Microsoft Account to Download a Windows 10 .iso and obtain their product key

#8 The Start Menu and User Interface
    1. The Start Menu
Allow Drag and Drop from the left list to the right pinned icons. Update build 10041, Microsoft have done this.
The Start menu is bloated with Metro Apps, making it more cumbersome to find useful installed programs. Example of Start Menu to the left bloated with Metro Apps.
These should all be in a Windows Apps folder similar to all the (more useful) items in the Windows Accessories folder.
    2. Windows and X Menu (Right Click Start)
Please add your votes to my Windows UserVoice suggestion here.
Add the following to the “Windows and X” menu:
    Windows Defender
    Windows Defender Offline
    Devices and Printers
    .iso to Bootable USB Utility
"Settings" → This definitely has to be here
Make the Windows and X Menu look like part of Windows 10.
    3. Windows Defender
Add it to the Windows and X Menu as described above and also add right click context menus like Microsoft Security Essentials had:
    4. Minor Feedback
I'm not a great fan of the new icons, the folders are too bright and it looks like they have been drawn in Microsoft paint. The Recycle bin particularly looks terrible.
