Double messages in Mail.

Hmm… this is a new one by me.
I'm running 10.5.6 on a 1.8GHz PowerPC G5.
After a few weeks of weirdness on my Mac, and doing multiple re-installs of the System, I've finally gotten things worked out. To make a really long story short: bad RAM.
Over the weekend, I did my fourth Erase & Install, and things are running well & pretty much back to order.
I pulled the Mail folder over from my previous Personal Folder > Library and got Mail going. Seems most all of the earlier e-mails in my Inbox as well as Sent box are blank. Messages in other folders are just fine.
Did an Import Mailboxes from an earlier version, and now have two of everything.
Selected a number of the blank duplicates, deleted, and within three seconds they pop back up, although they are greyed out. If I toggle the Show/Hide Deleted Messages command under View, they disappear. But if I go to another Mailbox and back again, the blank messages are back.
Yes, I've done not only a quit & re-start of Mail, but also a shut-down of the computer to see if that rectified anything. No dice.
Anyone have an idea on this one?

you didn't transfer your Mail correctly. quit Mail and copy the folder /users//username/library/Mail AND the file /users/username/library/preferences/com.apple.mail.plist from your backup to the corresponding locations on your startup drive replacing existing items. start mail and it will look like it was prior to the reinstall.
Anyone have an idea on this one?

  • IMAP Mail - double messages

    Hi,
For the most part, Mail on my iPhone seems to be working great. However, on one of the IMAP accounts that I have configured for e-mail, I sometimes get the same message twice on my iPhone, but if I check that same e-mail account through their web interface (it's an AIM account), the message only appears once. On the iPhone, if I reply to either occurrence of the double-message, it shows as having replied to both occurrences. What makes this more inconvenient is that if I try to delete one of the double occurrences, it deletes both of them. This problem only seems to happen on the iPhone - the same account works fine through both the web interface AND through Apple Mail on my Mac, just not on my iPhone. Any suggestions?

Even if you have already deleted the email account(s) on the iPhone, do so once more and set your AIM email account again. If you still get double messages, check the email settings with your AIM account, look for any settings that may be triggering the double emails.

  • How do I turn off double-spacing in Mail

Whenever I compose a message in Mail, if I hit the return key, it skips down two lines at one time. How do I get a single space?

This is present in Leopard 10.5.2
    Hello there,
    Let me understand something first:
    *Double Spaced*
    Line 1
    Line 2
    *Single Spaced*
    Line 1
    Line 2
    That being said,
I created an Email message that was double spaced. Viewed the RAW source of the Email and created an HTML document from the HTML source and viewed it in Safari. Its double spaced in Safari! It's possible that the HTML from the RAW source is the problem surrounding the lack of Single-Spacing. See for yourself...

Perhaps Apple is enforcing some kind of standard. So, as of right now, I have no work around.

  • Bad message crashes Mail

I have a message in Mail's inbox that I cannot get rid of. It is probably a virus in disguise or something else that means no good. When I tried to delete it, I clicked on it and it immediately crashed the program. If I relaunch and click on it again it crashes the program again as soon as I click on it. I cannot even highlight it to delete it. Any thoughts?

To prevent Mail from crashing, you must select the message without causing Mail to try to display its contents in the preview pane. Not sure about the version of Mac OS X your profile says you’re running, but in Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) there are at least three ways to select a message without displaying its contents:
    (1) You can hide the preview pane by dragging the separator bar between the message list and the preview pane to the bottom of the window, or by just double-clicking within the separator bar, so that the preview pane disappears and only the message list is visible. To make the preview pane visible again, drag the separator bar up from the bottom of the window, or just double-click on the separator bar again.
    (2) If you select the message with the mouse, the message is displayed in the preview pane when the mouse button is released, not when it’s pressed. This allows you to drag the message to the Trash or to any other mailbox without Mail trying to display its contents.
    (3) Ctrl-clicking on a message causes a contextual menu to appear, from which you can usually (but not always, don’t ask me why) choose Delete or Move To, before the contents of the message are displayed in the preview pane.

  • Messages in Mail will not open into separate window

I'm not sure when this problem started happening - I don't often actually open messages in Mail, I usually read them in the preview pane.
The Problem:  nothing I do will open Mail messages into a new window.  None of the following have any visible effect: double-click on the message in the message list; select the message, context-click and choose "open"; select the message and choose File > "Open Message."
Mail is version 3.6 (936).  FYI, I did rebuilt my Envelop Index.  That file got slightly smaller but my "Can't open mail messages" problem didn't change.

  • Can not find some messages in Mail using search

I have some problems with Mail.app I can not find some messages in Mail using search, the strange thing is that sometimes mail search finds some messages, but after rebuilding spotlight index the search displays other messages with the all messages searched using same search criteria. I have also tried to delete Envelope index file from the Mail folder in usr/library and forced mail to import all mailboxes but it started to crash importing some of mailboxes - I deleted the messages from that mailboxes, imported remaining mailboxes and tried to rebuild mailbox, but everything without a successes. Any ideas how to solve it?

  • HTML messages crash Mail

Since this morning, every time I try to open an HTML message in Mail, it crashes. I don't have a problem with regular text e-mails, just HTML. I've repaired permissions, run Disk Utility and Disk Warrior, and I don't know how to proceed.
    Can anyone help, please?

Hi lsgmilano, and a warm welcome to the forums if you han't been already!
First I'd backup your whole Mail folder, by right clicking on it in the Finder, then choose Archive/Compress.
Right click on that Mail folder, choose archive, you'll get everything in the folder, and the folder itself in a file called Mail.zip..
Quit Mail, then In your home folder, try moving this +folder & file+ to the Desktop then reboot...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail
    Move to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index

  • Is there any way to automatically add an attachment to a message in Mail?

    Hi,
I have to responsd to a lot of emails with basically the same response. I use a TextExpander snippet for the body of these messages. However, I usually need to attach a PDF file as well.
Is there anyway to automate attaching a PDF attachement to a message in Mail?
Perhaps, this can be done by adding the attachment into a Signature, although I havent seen a way to do this.
Or perhaps, some kind of Automator scritpt?
The mail account is actually a Google Apps account, so perhaps there is a way to have the GMail server do something to the message on the way out?
    Thanks

it's fairly easy to create an outgoing message with attachments in applescript; just use a script like the following:
    tell application "Mail"
              set newMess to make new outgoing message with properties {visible:true, subject:"test emal"}
              tell newMess
      make new attachment at end of attachments with properties {file name:"/path/to/attachment"}
              end tell
    end tell
it's extremely difficult to add an attachment to an outgoing email that's already been created, however (there's no easy way in applescript to get a reference to an open outgoing message window if the script did not make the window itself).  I'm not sure which you had in mind.

  • How to delete multiple messages in mail

How to select a bunch of messages in mail to delete.

I Wonder if your sitting there laughing at us as if there is some big conspiracy about selecti all and deleting all from our iPhones and iPads.
    The conspiracy.
Why can we not just not select all in the mail inbox and then delete all, if we do not want to delete every single one of them then deselect the few that we do not want to delete instead of having to select the thousands we do want delete individually.
And if you do make a mistake and delete the wrong emails by selecting all, then go to your trash and reinstate the ones you did not want to delete
I think 99% of us know how to DELETE emails individually, as you put it.
That's just sarcasm and if not then then your not fully understanding the question asked.
I would also say that probably 99% of us want to be able to select all and delete all if that's what we desire.
I would just like a honest answer of why we cannot select all delete all rather than giving me a load of rubbish about encase we delete something we didn't want to delete.

  • How do I manage old messages in Mail on my Mac?

    Hi,
I can no longer receive Yahoo messages in Mail on my Mac.
This could be because I have over 20,000 messages in my Inbox?
I'm wondering if there is a way I can arrange for Mail to delete and
archive all these messages so I don't have to do it manually?
If there is a way, please explain how to do it.
    Thanks all!

Select the bottom or top e-mail, then hold down the shift key and select the last e-mail, the Mail/Message/Archive.

  • I can no longer zoom in my messages in mail since upgrading to Lion

I have a Mac Book Pro with an intel i5 processor and 4GB of ram.  Since I have upgraded to Lion I can no longer zoom in on my messages in Mail.  I was able to do this in Snow Leopard when ever the text size was too small.  Is there a way to make the text larger in the body of the messages I receive?

The zoom has been replaced by the pinch and zoom method just as you would do in zoming into or out of a document or photo. Hope this helps.

  • TS3899 Getting the message "your mail could not be moved to trash", and keeps reappearing as not read or deleted.

Getting the message "your mail could not be moved to trash", and keeps reappearing as not read or deleted.

Did you have Hotmail set-up with Android prior?  I did, and if you did too, you have the same problem, and this is how to solve it.
From your desktop computer, the Hotmail (or Outlook) website uses the folder "Deleted" for your deleted messages as default.  On your iPhone, the deleted folder's name by default is "Trash".
When I had my Hotmail with Android, it created a folder Trash for deleted messages, and it's creation was amongst all my folders.  So when you go back and look at Hotmail from your desktop, you will see a folder Trash, in addition to the default Deleted.  My Trash folder had all the emails I deleted from my Android.
That said, with the manual folder Trash that was created, when trying to set-up Hotmail now on iPhone, because I already had a folder Trash, it conflicted with the default "Trash" folder it wanted to created, so it didn't create it, being the reason why you can't delete emails, because it doesn't have the defaulted "Trash" folder to go to.
The solution is to delete the folder "Trash" from your desktop, uninstall Hotmail from your iPhone, and re-install, and it worked, the defaulted "Trash" was then created, alongside the "Sent" and "Junk".

  • Is it possible to import messages into Mail that are in .csv format?

Just in case my previous topic subject was preventing some folks from checking this out, I'lll try to ask my question in a more generic way.
I have an archive of a mailbox from another email program that I'm trying to move over to Apple Mail. My archive is saved as a .csv file. I can open the file in either Numbers, Excel, or TextEdit, and I can see that all the info is there. However, I want to be able to import these into Mail so that I can integrate these old messages with my other emails. I would want to be able to search for these messages using Mail's search tools and be able to identify messages based on who they're from, the subject line, date received, etc.
Specifically, this archive was exported out of Earthlink Total Access. My only options out of Earthlink were to export out as either .csv or a proprietary .dat file. I'm trying to figure out how to get the .csv file into Mail. I tried going through Entourage, but Entourage only imports contacts from a .csv file and not messages. I found a Unix utility that coverts a .csv to an mbox file (which Entourage would be able to import), but I'm not sure how to get it to work (I'm not that swift with Unix).
    http://membled.com/work/apps/outlooktext_tombox/
    Any brilliant ideas?

I too am trying to transfer Total Access messages into Mail and have stumbled at every attempt to use other software, such as Entourage and OE, as intermediaries. I would love to hear if you get any response to this question. I was able to transfer all the addresses, but not the messages.

  • Can't delete messages in Mail

This is a brand-new issue that started yesterday — I cannot get rid of unwanted messages in Mail when I click on Delete. Nothing at all happens. I can do a "Move To" on some of the messages.
    I also cannot select "Rebuild".
Who has solved this problem before?

I had the same problem and tried a solution I found on other forums. First archive a copy the affected mailbox in case something goes wrong. Then highlight the mailbox name in the navigation bar on the left, go to the "Mailbox" menu, and choose "Rebuild" from the bottom of the list. This worked for me.
There's also an option in Mail preferences to "Move deleted messages to a separate folder." I unchecked it and rechecked it, then closed Mail Preferences.
Somewhere along the line I also did a restart. It never hurts.
    Hope this helps.
