Double pictures folders

I syncronize my favorite pictures with a folder in my computer. However when I syncronize my iphone 2 identical folders with the same pictures show up. One it says photo gallery and the other it is my folder in the computer. What do I do to remove one of them?. I have tried deleting my folder and it still the same happens. I have the huntch it has to do with windows photo gallery. please help

There are other threads about this, same happened to me. It ***** , I have a feeling it won't get fixed till the next iOS update. It's happening to everyone on ios 5 though

Where did my picture folders go?

I thought this went too smoothly. I just transferred all my files via firewire from to my new MacBook Pro from my two year old PowerBook G4. All the dated (year, month, date) pictures folders have disappeared. All the pictures show up in iPhoto -- although a little jumbled --- but there are no folders showing in the finder.
(I discovered this when I went to attach a photo to an email in Mail.)
Where are they? Help. Thanks in advance.

There's actually no need whatever for the hack now:
There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
To upload to MySpace or any site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser. Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
Also, for 10.5 users: If you use the extended Open or Attach dialogue (with Column View) you can scroll to the bottom of the Shortcuts and find the Media browser there. Select any pic you want from there.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor)as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically.

I have read your post on how you are looking to eliminate two locations on the My Documents and My Pictures folders of your desktop computer, and I would be happy to assist you!
Since it appears that both the Documents and Pictures folders have mirrored themselves, I recommend performing a backup and recovery of your operating system. This can be done by following the steps in this resource on Backing Up Your Files (Windows 7), as well as Performing an HP system recovery (Windows 7). This should return your system back to factory defaults.

How do I sync multiple picture folders to my iPod touch ? I don't want to create another folder and then copy the desired folders to be synced, into this main folder. All of my pictures are about the size of 5-10 MB. Copying them would mean loss of additional space.

You can only point iTunes at one folder for syncing to the iPod. You can however selectively choose which subfolders of the main folder are included. I use a Photos folder inside iTunes\iTunes Media and move the folders that I want on my device into that, but the parent folder could be anywhere that suits you.

I think the warning is very clear.
What warning? Where do you say that this plan you suggest will lose at least some, and possibly a whole lot of metadata, plus the original files of edited photos. This is significant dataloss. And you should warn people that this is the case.
While your metadata and originals may not be important to you, that is not necessarily the case for other users.
Fourthly, and last, cleaning the iPhoto library should be done at least once per year
This is nonsense. The iPhoto Library has no need of "cleaning" and certainly not in any way that trashes a whole lot of data.
I'm very impressed that you assess the application based on the sound of the name. It's not a common way to review applications, but I'm sure it has some merit.
FWIW it has been recommended on this - and other - sites for many years and has proven safe and effective.

How to move Downloads, Movies, Music& Pictures folders to an external drive

I have a 2008 iMac which hard disk (as you probably know) is not upgradable. After 16 months of use the disk became full so I bought an external firewire drive (1T LaCie d2). My plan is to move most folders located under /Users/username/ (the Documents, Downloads, Movies, Music and Pictures folders) to the external drive and replace them with aliases.
Searching on the net, I found instructions on how to move the iTunes Music folder and how to change iPhoto default photos folder. I then moved the said folders and their contents to the external drive and created the aliases. Now when I try to delete the folders for their original location I get a message stating that "folders cannot be modified or deleted because they are required by Mac OS X". I know that I can delete these folders using terminal Unix commands but is this the correct approach?
Or should I go and create a new user account using as Home directory a folder located on the external drive? Or, alternatively, just change the existing user Home to one in the external drive?
I think my question is important and of general interest and I was really disappointed to find out that Apple has no documentation on this subject (or at least, I couldn't find any).

this happens because they are protected by "deny delete" ACLs.

that's one way to do it. then you can move the folders to teh external and put symbolic links, *NOT aliases* in their original locations.

that might be the easiest option. just copy the whole home folder to the external. then go to system preferences->accounts. unlock the lock at the bottom, control-click on your user and choose 'advanced options". in the popup change the location of the home directory to the external. then reboot and when you log in your home directory should be on the external. then you can trash the old home directory on the internal.

Double pictures in projects

Today I recognised that in my older projects (2010 and earlier) all versions are doubled.
I never did this deliberately. This issue concerns thousands of pictures
- how can I identify and delete all double versions
- what may have caused this and how to avoid in future ?

OK, here are some more observations which may hopefully provide someone with a clue of what is going on. Basically I can find three kind of projects in my library:
A. Projects where everything is ok.
This applies for ca. 10% of the library and the very recent projects.
B.Projects with double pictures where both pictures are found. Screenshot:
-> Projects dating back from 2 month ago until March 2010.
Here, both duplicates refer to the same master on an external FW drive. Strange: I open the project, and I can select both duplicates individually as show in the picture. I can also assign star ratings picture by picture. But deleting one of the two pictures will always delete both. And: if I open the filter window and change just one rule (e.g. from "all" to "any" of the following that match) suddenly all double pictures are linked. Clicking on one picture will now always select both. And assigning a rating e.g. does apply the rating for both pictures. Deleting one picture well delete both as before.

C. Projects with pictures not found
-> Projects before March 2010
Similar to A., but here one of the versions is found, the other is not found.
Same here: if I open the Project, I can select versions independently. Changing one rule in the filter changes this, now clicking on one picture will always select both images. Screenshot:
So, to sum up:
1/ All duplicates seem to share the same master
2/ Even if opening a project lets me select one picture of the pair individually, just changing something in the filter section makes the two pictures link, so again they seem to share the same master
3/ Time seems to influence the behaviour: very recent projects are ok. But already two month old projects have duplicates. Even older projects with duplicates, of which one version cannot be found.
@ Kirby: I will try consolidate the library over night. I do have a timemachine backup. But before going to an earlier version I will try to consolidate the library on my imacs internal drive.
@ Kirby: I used two times the defragmentation software idefrag. Your question makes me wonder if this may have caused the issue ?
In general during the last weeks I faced some issues with my external disks. Sometimes the FW drive was lost and I had to take plug out and reconnect. Also my TM backup which goes on an external usb drive showed some error messages and I had to plug drive out and reconnect . . .
@Neil: the odd-count projects behave the same as the even number projects.

How to change the order of picture folders loaded from my Computer to my TV via Apple TV?

My picture folders have this format: YYYY-mm Folder name. In iTunes I activate homesharing and chose my photo gallery on my PC.
I would like to have folder, say 2012-08 "Folder name" to appear on the top(not at the bottom) of the long list of folders on my TV. How can that be done?

Try selecting 'revert to original layout' in the window menu. If that doesn't help I would delete Motion preferences in ~/library/preferences/com.apple.motionapp.plist and com.apple.motionapp.LSSharedFileList.plist. You can also try deleting the layouts folder in ~/Library/Application Support//Motion. I assume that at some earlier time Motion was behaving properly. If this problem has occured when you first tried to open it after downloading then I'd reinstall it.

Can Elements see double pictures even if they have other names?

If i have the same pictures in Elements, becorse the have an other name, can Elemements see that en remove them?
If i have a picture of my house and the same picture was uploaded, because it was on my pc on a other name Elements shows it two times.
Must i remove one of them by hand?

Extra picture folders after a restore in PSE-O v11

I have an HP laptop with all of my pics and back ups on an EHD. The EHD recently died but I have additional copies of all my pics on other EHD and my laptop. I have a backup of the organizer from March 2014 on another EHD. I just tried to restore the organizer to a new EHD and it looks like everything is now connected but now I have all of these additional picture folders on my EHD? The folder system doesn't show my original pictures folder that is on the new EHD. What did I do? and do I need to correct something?

Never mind I did it again with the "keep original folder structure" ticked. All is good:)

How to: eliminate PDF files from showing up in my picture folders?

I am using Windows 7 and I save all my pdf files in various folders located in the "Documents" files. These same files are then showing up in my "pictures" files. I have no need for this and it is unnecessarily filling up my picture files. How do I stop the PDFs from showing up in the picture folders? I am thinking I just don't understand how the Libraries functionality of Windows 7 works!?!

The easiest solution would be to simply move the PDFs in that particular folder somewhere else.

My images will not show in the Finder Pictures folders, but just display as jpeg thumbnails. I have to open each one to see what photo it is. This has just recently started to happen.

I made sure the 'Show Icon Preview' box was checked. This is about all I can do, really, Frank, as i don't know enough about the workings of these machines to start fiddling about.
Strangely the images show as previews in some folders, yet not in others, even though they come from the same sources (my camera and my phone).
