Double Speed Rendering in Final Cut

I am having an odd problem with Final Cut 6 that used to just happen when I would export to "current settings" but has now migrated into my preview renderings.
When I render, the video plays back at double speed, and audio renders fine. The result is half the video render is double speed and the rest is black. Very annoying and I cannot properly edit this way.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Yes, when I import my footage, the line is grey and not red and plays just fine.  However, if I export and use "Current Settings" the rendered file will come out double speed.  If I add an effect and it requires a rendering, the preview will render and double speed.  If I can figure out and fix what is doing this, my life will be a whole lot less stressful.
BTW, the funny thing is, if I do NOT export using "current settings" but rather choose HDV 1080i60, it creates the new file just fine. :-/

  • Does GPU speed transcoding by Final Cut Studio?

Does GPU ( NVIDIA QUADRO 4000 for Mac ) speeds transcoding  by Final Cut Studio?

Motion can make some use of the GPU as can a few FCP effects. However only ATI cards were supported, not nVidia and the acceleration was only on playback, not rendering.
The Quadro 4000 will be a benefit if you are running Adobe CS5.5 apps (Premiere, AE, Photoshop). It will not aid FCS.
I just wish it had support for 3 monitors.

  • Speed changes cause Final Cut Express 2 to quit

I have a video that runs about a minute over two hours. I wanted to change the speed by adjusting the speed change feature to 102% so as to be able to fit it on a 2-hour dvd.
However, even with my dual G5 (4GB RAM) the app unexpectedly quits before it's even halfway completed rendering.
I'm on version 2.0.3. (Seems like this version of Final Cut Express has more of a problem with Tiger than it did with 10.3.9, BTW)
    Any suggestions would be welcome!

A 2% speed reduction is not going to look good. There's no way you can reduce 29.97fps by 2% and produce a frame rate that's compressible with anything like correct frame interpolation. Not without serious expenditure of time, money, and learning, After Effects and ReTimer. You'd be much better off actually cutting five minutes out of your movie. I guarantee if you look hard enough at it you can do it. There's no 2:01:00:00 story that can't be told in 1:58:00:00.

  • How do I change the speed of the Final Cut Pro X "Ticker" Title option?

I am moving from iMovie to Final Cut Pro X.  I used to use the "ticker" title option all the time in iMovie, but when I utilize it in Final Cut Pro X, it scrawls really slow and only shows the first line of text before the video ends.  How do I adjust the speed of this option?

This Motion template effect isn't very useful at the moment.
Sadly, the only way of changing the speed is to modify the effect in Motion.
The speed is designed to get the word 'Information' at the default size and default typeface across the screen over the duration of the clip. If you add more text, or change its size, the text will not move off the edge of the screen by the end of the duration of the generator.

  • Rendering in Final Cut Pro 10.1.2 is incredibly slow

I just Upgraded to Final Cut Pro 10.1.2 and rendering has become incredibly slow. I am using OSX 10.9.4 on an IMAC with 32GB of RAM on a 3.4GHz machine. In previous version I had absolutley NO trouble. Since my Libraries were upgraded by this version, I am assuming that it is not possible to Rollback to a previous version - is that correct?

Depends. If you have system backups that predate the upgrade, you should be able to restore both the application and the libraries.
What kind of rendering…while working on the timeline or at export?
See what happens if you create a new library and a new project and event and use the same type of media that you have in your other projects?

  • CPU and operating temps when rendering in FInal Cut

I had some issues in Final Cut today, and had to start a project over. I noticed render times seem to have gotten slower. I don't think it's just me, I remember my computer rendering clips much faster than it did after the crash. I also noticed the fans constantly blowing at full bore when rendering. I decided to monitor temperatures during the rendering process. The CPU temperature immediately starts to climb. It averages between 85-89 degrees Celsius during the rendering process. Is this normal for it to get this hot during rendering? I have read many different things.

I'm using FCP 7. It seems like my CPU has been running warm overall at times. I hope things are alright with it.

  • Graduated Speed Changes In Final Cut 7

How might I make graduated speed change for a clip in Final Cut? What I mean by a graduated speed change is like how a car gradually brakes - well, hopefully I don't want these step downs, where the car would be traveling at 50 mph, then 30, and then 10. There should be a graduated progression of the speed change.
    Thanks!

  • Is rendering in Final Cut single thread or multi thread?

There seems to be this recurring message about how the new Macpros perform single-threaded tasks about the same as the previous gen of Macpros, however in multi-threaded tasks the new Pros shine.
How do I know if a task is single-threaded or multi-threaded? I do a lot of rendering video filters, generators, effects, etc. in Final Cut. Even something as (seemingly) simple as generating scrolling credits takes forever to render.
Is video rendering a multi-threaded task? Will I see time significant time savings in rendering with the new Pro machines?

It's not right now but the new Mac Pros are faster in single-threaded modes anyway:
    http://www.macrumors.com/2009/03/14/updated-mac-pro-benchmarks-and-video-of-inte rnals/
Turns out the initial benchmarks were incorrect. The integrated memory controller is a MASSIVE performance boost. But it is inevitable that Apple will eventually choose the multi-threaded route for Final Cut Studio anyway, even if they do not at the present.

For some reason, Final Cut Pro 4.5 will no longer render files. I've tried completely uninstalling (erasing all files) then reinstalling all related software, but the problem persists.

  • How do I avoid rendering in Final Cut Express 4 ?

Someone mentioned synchronizing movie files and sequences but I am not sure what type of files either should be and how to do that. As of now I am using h.264 compressor for movie clips but I don't know if that is good.

  • SlowestMacBook Pro Processor Speed for optimal Final Cut Studio Performance

I am looking to buy a MacBook Pro and I want to edit video on it using Final Cut Studio. Is a 2.53GHz processor plenty fast for editing... or do I need to go higher...? I am planning on getting 4GB of Ram and 7200 RPM Hard Drive.
I really appreciate the help, I just don't want to sacrifice performance or waste money

    Hi,
I have a 2.33 GHz MBP with less GB of RAM and FCP works just fine, Motion is more GPU and RAM (4 is ok) concerned. Motion will run ok but may be slow at times depending on the project. Your setup looks pretty decent.

  • Rendering in Final Cut Express

I've been trying to render title screens on Final Cut Express (overlaped over visuals), but I'm told that there is not enough disk space and that I have to free up more disk space. All my footage is on an external LaCie drive, and I have plenty of free space, so that shouldn't be an issue. Has anyone encountered this problem before?

What's the size of your system HD and how much free space do you have on it? Ditto for your Lacie drive.
Are you connecting your Lacie drive via FireWire or USB? (USB is insufficient for video work)
Check your FCE system preferences - what HD are you using for your Render files?

  • Rendering and Final Cut Pro 5.1.2

I am editing in HD 1080i 29.97 and when I media manage and re-import the footage I need to render. I am having problems doing a long render. I used to be able to render the entire project and all worked. Now I have to render it in chunks. Sometimes I get an out of memory error also. I also have a problem of FCP crashing durring the render. I am using Borris effects on some stuff but not that much. I am also using miniDV footage in the project. Does anyone have any Idea what is going on. Or am I just a bad user?
    Chris

I might be able to offer some help...or not. I'm envious about the HD...but my turn is coming.
My suggestions fall into the obvious ones. You might check your scratch disk settings and/or virtual memory. You may find that you are using your 20 GB hard drive for rendering, but (like on my MacBook when I have to use it) less than 1GB remains available. I have to do major housekeeping after each project. I basically archive all source material, capture scratch files, and render files to either my 1TB array or burn several DVDs, depending on various factors. I suspect you have a similar storage space problem.
What type of connection (SCSI, Firewire, etc.) are you using for the external storage? Can you access it as primary scratch disk or for virtual memory? If not, can you move files/apps to it and run from them? That might create the space it appears you need to complete the long render.
Best of luck to yuo with your project...Happy New Year!

i am using i mac 27" with 1 tb hdd, 4 gb ram, 1gb video ram, when i work with a project , if background renddring is 'on' it will have some 'jerk' problem, and also when i browse the media  fcp x will take some time to display the thumb. some time the timeline is smooth. totaly when i use fcp X is not co-operate with smooth editing , is this is my i mac problem or software problem, i am working in aftereffects there is no problem.
    justin

That is exactly the situation I have.  I have a 120G SSD that is my startup drive.  It houses FCPX.  I have a second  1 Terabyte internal drive that contains all my events, projects, media, etc.
I do not see how I can free up 80 Gs on my startup drive.  There would be no room for anything else.
This whole issue is happening to my second project.  The first project - a ten minute collection of stills (283) with cross fades in-between renders quite quickly.

  • Final Cut Pro 7 on Macbook Pro

Hi I am running Final Cut Pro 7 on my 2009 Macbook Pro. 13" 2.26GHZ with 4gb of Ram. I am wondering if how I should set up my final cut to optimize it for this 2 core machine. I have had a lot of troubles with dropped frames and clips. Which codecs should I be transcoding my videos into to optimize them for rendering on such a small computer and are there any specific settings I should change so Final Cut works better. I wouldnt mind having long render times just as long as everything worked as smoothly as possible. I have used Final cut on Mac Pros and never had problems no matter what the codec, I usually just convert everything to pro res 444. But im not sure if that will work on this tiny little core 2 duo processor with only 4gb of ram. Please let me know what I should do. (Sorry for the long post). Oh also I am running on Leopard, not snow leopard or lion but plan old leapord, would upgrading to snow leopard lion help me at all?

    Hi,
This is the Final Cut X forum. Your post actually belongs in the Final Cut Studio forum:
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/professional_applications/final_cut_stud io
That said, you don't need to convert to ProRes 4444 unless your clips include alpha information. In fact, you may not need ProRes 422 HQ. Try using plain vanilla ProRes 422. That should be a big speed improvement.
Final Cut Pro 7 runs on only one core. Compressor can run multiple cores, so you could take advantage of your dual core machine by converting your incoming footage in Compressor, not Final Cut. When done editing, export using the same settings as your sequence to create a master file, then use Compressor to compress to something like H.264 or .m2v for distribution. That won't speed up Final Cut, but may speed up your overall workflow.
Also check your realtime settings on your Timeline to make sure they are Unlimited RT and playback quality Dynamic.
Finally, FCS 3 seems to be somewhat faster under Snow Leopard:
