Double tap to open doesn't work

I've been using OS X for some time. When I double tapped (double clicked/pressed return) it used to open file in finder but this function suddenly disappeared. I cannot neither open song in itunes by tapping on it. Do you have any idea how to reactivate it? In trackpad preferences there are no possibilities.

  • Double Tap to enlarge doesn't work even though selected in preferences?

Also had several crashes of Dashboard. Other than that seems to be fine.

Never mind works good with Safari; I was trying with Chrome. Maybe it will work there someday?

  • Why does my Ipod ask me to double tap to open everything.

All of a sudden I have a voice telling me what each button is when I click on it....I have to double tap to open any app and my screen won't slide.  Anyone know how to fix this?

Go to Settings - General - Accesability - VoiceOver = Off. Note you will need to use 3 finger method to scroll to some menu items.

  • Siri doesn't shut up and all icons have to be double-tapped to open

The title sums up the problem. When you press the home key to wake up the iPhone, Siri announces the time and when you try to slide to unlock, she says "slide to unlock" and you have to double-click the slide bar to open the phone. When the phone opens up, she says "calendar" (which is the first icon on the screen, and announces the date. Typing any icon, she announces the name of the icon and says "double-click to open."  Clicking any link (for example, in Settings), requires a double-click and the phone is unable to do any scrolling with your finger.

Thanks, randers4, for the very quick response that solved the problem. I thought for sure we would have to take the phone to the Geneous Bar to get it fixed. Three fingers let me scroll to Accessibility and then take off VoiceOver, which solved the problem. This is my wife's iPhone and she has no idea how VoiceOver was turned on.

  • Double tap to open new tabs in Safari using a trackpad

    Hi
I've been using my trackpad to double tap next to open tabs in safari ie to create new tabs, over the last 2-3 days that feature has disappeared and it doesn't work any longer also if it does it may take as many as 5-10 taps to create a new tab.
I remember setting this feature up when i first got Lion, but i can't find the settings now. Any help appreciated.
Thank you & happy new year.

    Hi,
Thanks, i've been through most of the settings as you've mentioned.
Anyway what it came down to was i'd recently set up a bluetooth mouse, that is what stopped the function of double tap next to an open tab in safari to open a new tab. Very strange indeed.
But alas i removed the mouse from setup fixed the problem, but thanks for your advice.

  • Double tap and drag isn't working on touchpad

Hey everyone!  First time posting here so apologies if my post sucks! :P
Normally on a touchpad, you can double tap, hold your finger down on the second tap, and move the finger around to drag windows and highlight text.  This doesn't seem to work on my touchpad.
Instead, what seems to be happening is when I tap once, at the point when I release the touchpad the pointer changes its icon to the dragging icon (The one that looks like a hand grabbing something).  However, regular double tapping works fine e.g. when I want to maximize a window or select a paragraph of text.
    Some information about my setup:
I'm running arch on a Dell Chromebook 11
    I'm using CInnamon DE.
It seems that the settings in the Cinnamon config override the settings in my /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/<touchpad settings.conf>.
Case in point, I add the following lines into my config:
            Option          "TapButton1" "1"
            Option          "TapButton2" "2"
            Option          "TapButton3" "3"
and disable the "Tap to click" option using Cinnamon's GUI settings tool.  If I do this, tapping does not register as a click.
    I have tried the following:
Set the TapAndDragGesture boolean to true.  This doesn't seem to help.
Disable tap to click in Cinnamon's settings, thinking that perhaps the touchpad was recognizing a single tap as two taps.
Messed around with the MaxTapTime and MaxDoubleTapTime settings.
I can't seem to pinpoint the problem... is there some settings I am overlooking?

    Here check this page https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Touchpad_Synaptics.
    It says the following.
$ synclient PalmDetect=1 (to enable palm detection)
$ synclient TapButton1=1 (configure button events)
$ synclient TouchpadOff=1 (disable the touchpad)

  • OpenAL doesn't work... BF2 O NO O NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think my openAL software stuff doesn't work... I can't set X-fi on?Battlefield 2?and when I try to use sound on Eternal Lands, which contains openAL.dll, the game freezes. I have to set the BF2 sound settings to "high" to get the 3-d sound on, but it cause small freezes in sudden sound bursts like the repeated ticks of gunfire or the repeated zt of a helecopter blade, or a lot of people moving or a lot of grass making grass noise, etc, etc, etc. Also, when I try to use the "test" feature of CMSS-3d in gaming mode, the console freezes and the task manager shows it's using up one of my cores.
Angry consumer part>>>I contacted CRE-A-TIVE for SUPPORT AND THEY SENT ME A EMAIL FULL OF USELESS ARTICLES!!! THE RETURN ADRESS WAS INVAILD for ((SOME))) REASON!!!!<<<End of angry consumer part
. I got the new drivers, but they did the same thing. This all started when I took it in to frys electro and had my Motherboard changed for a Nforce 680i to a Asus P5K-E/Wi-fi. Maybe they damaged the card?
Conclusion>>> Anyone else have this problem? Thanks for any help.

My MAC still can't get mail out.
I did that (started to set up the MAIL Account) and it couldn't find the
outgoing mal server again. I called my ISP to make sure their server was
working. All is well there. They said it could be that some of the MAC
wireless settings had changed so we gave it the acid test of reality by
hardwiring the MAC (plugged it into) to the wireless network router.
I did that (plugged it in) and the MAC proceeded to complete the setting up of the MAIL
account. All of the inbox stuff is there but not the sentbox stuff. I now
have an "ON MY MAC item under my mail boxes that I never noticed before. If
we ever get this problem with getting mail out on the MAC will I ever be
able to get the outbox contents back?
At this point I thought all was well. I tried to reply to you on the MAC and
it still couldn't "find the server". Remember now it is still hardwired.
The ISP suggested changing the server to smtp.sentex.net. The MAC still did
    not find the out server.
It shouldn't be a "wireless" issue or a "server spec issue" because this
ACER is right beside the MAC about 15 feet away from the wireless router and
is using the same outgoing server. And SAFARI is working as further proof of signal\connection.
Also the SEND icon in creating an email mode doesn't work now either, so I now can't even test the set up by attempting to sending an email.
    Any suggestions?
WIN XP is starting to look pretty good compared to this O/S
Thanks for your patience. I wish I still had mine!

  • Double Tapping Home button doesn't go to Favorites... ONLY iPod

Hi- Recently upgraded to 1.1.3, and I set up my Home button "Double Tap" feature so that it should display the Favorites when Double Tapped (and not playing music), but the Double Tap only produces iPod controls.
I DOES work if I'm already at the Home Screen... a Double Tap will bring up the Favorites. But I thought the whole POINT was to get to Favorites from the Slide to Unlock screen???

I think I understand what you're saying. I have the Home button double-tap set up to go to my favorites as well, but it only works if you're already "unlocked" and at the Home screen.
If your phone is asleep and you double tap the Home button, all you get is iPod controls and the "slide to unlock". I'm guessing this is how it's supposed to be...forcing you to slide to unlock before you can do anything else.

  • Double tapping home button doesn't bring up controls?

Why doesn't double tapping on the home button bring up controls to play my podcast on my locked phone like it used to before the podcast app?

Settings> Control panel> Access on lock screen. You will simply need to enable this and then when the screen is on but locked you can still swipe up and access the controls.

  • Tap-to-Click doesn't work on Windows 8

Hi all. I'm using bootcamp for two weeks, and Trackpad's tap-to-click feature doesn't work on Windows 8 x64. Can you help me please? Thanks a lot.

Aah, thanks a lot. That's so easy.

  • Clicking on Firefox's shortcut to specific profile when it's already open doesn't work. What am I missing?

Well, that's a hard problem to describe in one sentence.
I'm currently using windows. I have 2 Firefox profiles, and each of them have desktop shortcuts to:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -no-remote -P "Developer"
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -no-remote -P "Lazy"
They work just fine. The thing is: if the profile is already active and I click the shortcut, I get a "Firefox already running but not responding" error (Firefox just fails to open. The current opened window still works). The behavior I want is either maximize/focus the corresponding window, or open a new window with the same profile. Is it possible to achieve this? What am I missing?
I don't know if I'm being clear. In other words:
    - Desktop shortcut to specific profile works fine
    - While profile is open, double click the same desktop shortcut
    - Receive a "Firefox already running" error popup
    - Press ok, current profile still working but new window is not opened as expected

You can't open a link if you use the -no-remote command line switch.
You will have to start one profile without the -no-remote switch.
Then you can open external links in that profile instance (but not in the other).
    </blockquote>
Huh. If I didn't know better I would bet that I had tried this and hadn't worked. Thanks for the answer.

  • Why double tap to open something? can't you just single tap?

I have just bouht an ipod touch four for my son.  I seems to have to double tap everything to opn up a screen. Is this right? The voice over telling me I have to double tap is annoying. I think it simply isn't responsive enough. Is there a problem with it? My daughter has a gen three and you only have to single tap. and yes aI am a techno novice!!!

You need to turn off voice over.  Go to Settings>General>Accessability and turn off voice over.
Yu can also turn it off by connecting the iPod to its syncing computer and going to the Summary pane for theiPOd in iTunes and clicking one Configure Univerdsal Acess and turn Voice Over off.

Are Photoshop and OS fully updated and have you performed the usual trouble-shooting routines (trashing prefs by pressing command-alt-shift/ctrl-alt-shift while starting Photoshop until the appropriate dialog appears after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed, 3rd party plug-ins deactivation, system maintenance, cleaning caches, font validation, etc.)

  • Double-Clicking JPG's doesn't work in PS7

    Q. When I double click some image files in Explorer, or select Open With, Photoshop starts but instead of loading the file presents a New Image d/box.
    A. XP/Win2k has put in a bad registry key used for opening that kind of file. If you feel *comfortable* editing the registry, you can find the bad key at
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\Photoshop.exe\shell\open\command\(Default)
For some reason, sometimes Windows XP creates this key the first time without "%1" at the end. Delete the (Default) entry, go to Windows Explorer, select a file type you want to open in Photoshop, right click, go to Open With, select Choose Program, click Browse (Photoshop won't be in the list after deleting the registry key), select your Photoshop executable, and make sure "Always use..." is checked.
If you do not feel comfortable editing the registry DO NOT DO THIS.
You can work around it by dragging the image onto the Photoshop main window background after Photoshop is opened.

    Donald:
How does it look when you double click on it? What color mode is it? Color sRlGB or grayscale?
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance. iPhoto doesn't not have to be closed to run it, just idle.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Double-clicking to open files stops working after opening lots of files.

When I double-click a file it will open the file in CS6 version 13.0.1, but then after a while double-clicking will no longer open jpeg or raw files.  I can open the same files by going to File > Open in the Menu Bar.
When I am simply opening downloaded files from my camera, I can open 200-300 by double-clicking with no problems.  However, at times when I am working on an image, it is not long before I can't open a file by double-clicking.  It will open a blank Photoshop window, but without any Toolbar or Menu Bars.
This happens on a regular basis.  Sometimes, also, Photoshop is slow to Quit, for no apparent reason.
Is anyone aware of this problem?

    Still having this problem.
If I open a jpeg and just change the name, then Save As to a folder, I can then open another jpeg by double-clicking.
However, whenever I open a jpeg and make changes to the image in Photoshop, then Save As to a folder, I can then no longer open a jpeg by double-clicking.  Photoshop will open, but the jpeg will not open.
Since this only happens after making changes to a jpeg in Photoshop, it seems to me the problem is with something in Photoshop, and has nothing to do with my OS.
