Double trashed photos

I had some photos in iPhoto's (4.0.3) trash, I tried to move them to a new library as I decided not to delete them. I accidently dragged them from the trash window back to the trash icon and the pictures vanished. Can I get them back?

Unless you empty the trash, your pictures are still there. My guess is that you probably missed putting them back into the iPhoto trash, and the photos were restored to your library, because that's what happens when you drag the photos back out of the trash. Until it's emptied, the trash acts pretty much just like any other album (except the contents don't appear in your photo album).

    Hi
    Thank you for the reply.
No I have not deleted anything, this all happened automatically when the trial period ended.
Other than an old version of Photoshop (version 7, for which I do have a serial number, I don't have any other Adobe software - just the reader which is now not working)
I was trialling Dreamwever but couldn't get started with it so am paying someone else to set up the website using Wordpress.

  • Trashing photos still takes up hard drive space

I am throwing away photos from iPhoto to reduce the amount of storage needed (I have them backed up).  I have 7 gigs of photos left in iPhoto acording to the information window at the bottom left of iPhoto window.   The problem is that I still have about 45 gigs of photos in my "Pictures" folder.

iPhoto has its own method of managing photos.
You are better off backing up what you need as a whole Pictures folder elsewhere than trying to trash photos.

  • Hi. I cannot trash photos from an album. Options are "remove from album" or "trash" but both only remove from album not the library

Hi. I cannot trash photos from an album. Options are "remove from album" or "trash" but both only remove from album not the library. The only way to trash photos is to go to the library/photos and trash from there which is a bit annoying!

If you click the arrow in the right lower corner of the photo in the album, you should see the Trash can. Is it not there?
Or use the key combination option-command-delete  ⌥⌘⌫  .

  • Recovering trashed photos

I made the mistake of, after putting some photos into a folder, I trashed them from the library and emptied the trash. When I opened up the folder there were no photos. I didn't realize that I couldn't trash from the library and keep the photos in the subject folders. Is there anyway that I can recover the trashed photos? They are no longer in the trash. Thanks, Dr. S.

    Dr. S
You'll need a file recovery software such as File Salvage.

  • Trashed photos do not appear in iPhoto trash

First time user, please be patient. I found this same question 30 minutes ago and now have lost it. I hate to ask again. I am using iP6. When I drag and drop photos into my trash, they are gone but do not appear in the trash? This just started about a month ago. One day it works a couple of times and then not? I am obviously doing something wrong.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
If you have an album selected from your Source Pane and delete photos (from the album) then the photos disappear from that one album, yet remain in your Library. This would explain why you don't see them in the iPhoto Trash Can. Choose Library from the Source Pane and you will find them somewhere. The photos will also remain in every other album, slideshow, book, etc. to which they were assigned. If you wish to place them into the Trash directly from the album, you can type Option-Delete or Option-Drag them to the Trash. Once you've placed them in the Trash and emptied the trash, they are gone from every occurrence in your library.
In contrast, when the Library is selected as your source, photos will go directly into the iPhoto Trash. Removing items from the Library will delete them from every instance - that is, every album, book, etc, as stated above.
The exception to the rule is that Smart Albums behave differently. Because assignment to a smart album is determined by meeting the criteria for the album, as long as the photo remains in your library it will remain in the smart album. (Unless you change the criteria.) As a result, deleting from a smart album will delete the item from the entire library.
    Regards.

  • Double Clicking Photo No Longer Opens in Full Screen

    Hi all:
We have our preferences in iPhoto set so that double clicking a particular thumbnail opens the photo in Full Screen mode for editing.
Just this morning, for no apparent reason, we noticed that the photos when double clicked now open with gray (or black, I'll have to look again when I'm back home) space on the sides -- in a sort of "letterbox" effect. The pix still fill the screen from top to bottom like they used to, but they no longer stretch completely to the sides.
Any idea what has happened? We're thinking it's something easy, perhaps a stray click that unintentionally put us in a different iPhoto mode without us knowing it. (We did recheck our preference setting and "open in full screen" remains selected.)
    Thanks for your help.

    JDee:
Try deleting the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist from your User/Library/Preferences folder. Launch iPhoto and reset your preferences.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • IPhoto duplicates (doubles) all photos when importing

    Hi
    iMac 27 2009/10
    OSX 10.8.5
    iPhoto 11 9.4.3
When importing from an iPhone (and i think a digital camera) iPhoto imports say 10 photos but it puts 20 into iPhoto - i.e. it duplicates every photo it imports
It never used to do this and i can't see anywhere in preferences where there is a setting to import photos and double them up ?
When we import some 100 photos and we get 200 into iPhoto its a real pain to have to go through them and delete the duplicates

If you're shooting HDR photos with your iPhone and don't want double imports turn off the Keep Normal Photo under Settings ➙ Photos & Camera on your iPhone:
Frankly, I'd keep the normal photo. It might be far better than the HDR version, if the camera was not perfectly stabilised or the target moved. Usually it requires the large screen on the Mac to be able to compare the normal photo to the HDR version, to be able to see, if the HDR version is passable.

  • After trashing photos, still see photos in Modified file

I wound up with duplicate photos in 2 iPhoto libraries (after splitting a library) and decided to delete dups in one library.
I opened iPhoto selecting iPhoto Library #1 and then selected the photos in the iPhoto window, dragging them to the iPhoto trash. The photos no longer appear in the iPhoto window, but I still see some of the photos (presumably those I modified) when I look at the folder: Pictures>iPhoto Library #1>Modified. The photos are no longer in the corresponding Original folder. When I delete a photo shouldn't I be deleting both the original and modified versions.
I don't know if this matters, but these photos were from film scans. The results of those film scans wound up on a folder on my desktop (which is still there). I transferred these photos into iPhoto by dragging them into the iPhoto window.
I would appreciate help in understanding what is happening here. Thanks.
    Owen

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • My iPhoto thumbnails are trashed photos...

... and yet when opened, produce the larger version of photos - in order - not trashed at all.
Apologies if this is repeated anywhere; I'm quite ignorant and tend not to fiddle with things hidden (like directories), but I'm at a loss as to what to do.
Out of the 7000+ photos I kept on my MBP up to last week, I trashed about 4000 and this is what has happened.  Photo Browser looks fine when emailing, with everything where it should be, but iPhoto (version 8.1.2) presents the first 200-odd thumbnails as photos and movies I thought I'd gotten rid of and, when clicked upon, the photos I kept are 'underneath'.
It's time for me to clear this machine out and reload what I need, but I'm a little wary of starting this and maybe losing the vital photos.
Could anyone offer me a reason?  A solution?  (In really easy-to-follow steps?)
    Thanks,
    Louise

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to rebuild the thumbnails

  • I can't trash Photos and videos locked to iphone.

Hi. My Iphone 5 on IOS 7 is full, to the point I cannot take any more pictures or video.
Im pretty sure I have most of my images and videos backed up, When I go into my photos, I can't delete any videos from last year, and the trash can symbol is greyed out.
Any ideas? I have tried turning photo stream off and on, to no avail....

You are going into your Camera Roll to try and delete, yes?

Does any one have a recommendation for software that might recover photos inadvertently deleted to permanent trash on a Mac Pro 10.9.4 software?
I am looking to recover one photo project shot in the past four months.
    Thank you.

Data recovery software is expensive, especially to just recover one photo. At least $50 +

  • Double the photos in my Camera Roll and DCIM?

I took a screenshot of my iPod. I checked my camera roll, but it was "rebuilding" so I decided to wait for it because usually all the photos just come back....but not this time. The photos came back, but doubled. Everything had a duplicate except for some earlier photos that I took. I tried to delete one copy but while the thumbnail remained, when clicked all that came up was a black screen. So I connected my iPod to the computer and I see the same problem. In the DCIM folder, there is one folder containing all my photos, but the screenshot that started it all is seperated. PLEASE tell me what to do! I don't want to lose my photos...they are very important to me. Please reply asap

Try a reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
