Double vision and funny screens

My iMac G5 (2 1/2 yr old) is giving me problems on start up. I press the start button and everything looks fine - wheel appears etc then one of the following things can happens:
1. the screen goes blue, nothing else on it.
2. the screen shows strange grey patterns or has blocks on it (like a bad dvd), nothing else.
3. the screen come to life, everything looks present and correct but it's in bad double vision and nothing works.
4. the screen comes to like, everything looks ok, I click an application and it freezes.
I have to press the start button off and on again to get it going!
I work in the publishing business so took the iMAC into our MAC boffins in work but of course, everything worked fine for them.
Took it home and bang...same old, same old.
Am reaching the end of my teather. Any advice? (and I'm no computer boffin so plain English would be much appreciated.)

You might take a look and see if your machine fits the criteria of Apple's
UK extension Programme it sounds as if your video is failing.

  • Intermittent double beep and grey screen on startup

I just installed new third party RAM for my iMac (2008), because it was on sale. The initial RAM they sent me caused a kernel panic (forced shutdown) so I assumed they were faulty and sent them back. I just received my second set of RAM modules - which appear to work -- kind of. I have not had the kernel panic screen and no problems once the computer is booted, however about every second or third time I restart the computer I get the grey screen and a series of double beeps (which I have found out means incompatible RAM on startup testing). The hardware testing utility on my OSX Disc tests the RAM as being OK. I found a free app called rember which reports RAM errors. My question is: have I got a second set of faulty RAM - should I be looking at getting another brand (the one I have is "Add-On" and was specifically marketed as being for the aluminum intel based iMacs).
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi Machaon42
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
That sounds like incorrect or incompatible RAM, double check the spec's of that RAM compared to either your User's Guide or > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1760
Then compare OWC's price, it is iMac tested and highly recommended by forum members.

  • Weird web pages and funny screen

    Hi there!
I dunno if it happens to me, but sometimes when i go to particular webpages.I get some weird display(banner) stuck onto my desktop which came from the website. The only way to get rid of it is to restart. It seems like it's part of the display itself.
    Does anyone no about it?
I would post an example but i don't know how

could you post some links to the particular websites that cause these display problems?

  • HT3142 I clicked the double arrows and the size of the screen covered the entire screen.  how can I go back to smaller screen where I can wsee the time and icons and everything in one look?

I clicked the double arrow and the screen enlarged and covered everything.  now I cannot see the time and icons etc.  how can I control the size of my display screen?

Press the ESC key or push the cursor all the way to the top of the screen to reveal the menubar. Click on that same gadget to return to normal size.

My husband's only way to communicate is with ipad.  He now has double-vision.  The icons are too small.  Is Apple planning on accommodating us boomers and handicapped with a larger icons? Zooming doesn't help because it's not a permanent setting and he can't change it too meet his needs because of limited manual dexterity.  I understand and appreciate the desire for consistency, couldn't they make a two or three size option setting. Small, Medium, Large and maybe Xlarge?

Thanks.  Tried it.  The size of icons is great but now the part of the screen is missing.  For example, he likes going into his  music app, yes, it was easier for him to see and select, but once in the app he couldn't see the sides, so he couldn't select song without a double-tap to get it out of zoom.  I will see if I can arrange his pages so that all icons show.  This is a sort of work around.  Larger icons would be a better solution.  My husbands illness makes him akin to a person with ALS, so his ipad is his prized possession.

I did a quick search and came across this. Although it is for a 432, hopefully this imformation helps as canon printers are assembled relatively simular.

  • Photos in my iPhoto library will not enlarge when double clicked on.  they fill the screen and then screen goes black.  hasn't happened before.  thanks--

photos in my iPhoto library will not enlarge when double clicked on.  they fill the screen for a second (or less) and then screen goes black.  hasn't happened before.  thanks--

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
    1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
    2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). (On iPhoto 11 this option is under the File -> Reveal in Finder.) Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
    4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/ Library/ Caches...
    5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
If none of these help: As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

You have the accessibility VoiceOver feature turned on.
Triple click the home button and try going to Settings>General>Accessibility and turn VoiceOver off. You may have to use three fingers to scroll the screen to get there. If problems see the following for how to turn off via iTunes:
iPhone: Configuring accessibility features (including VoiceOver and Zoom)

  • Double Vision after updating to 10.4.6

After upgrading to 10.4.6 I am getting a screen that has "double vision" ... as soon as the loading Screen with the blue bar comes up, and it remains this way. If I reset the Pram at startup, this problem does not happen. This is a new issue after installing the combo update going from 10.4 to 10.4.6. Any Help would be nice.... come on Apple.

Thanks for the help Vipir, I tried your suggestion, but the monitor prefs have not changed since the previous versions were installed. After the same thing happened everytime I booted into 10.4.6 I decided to boot into 9.2.2 and see if the same result occured, and as I thought, it was an MacOS X issue.
When I booted into 9.2.2 though I was prompted with the software updates for 9, and one of these updates was for the Geforce Video Bios. The video card must not have had the updates installed , and Mac OS X was assuming the the card was up to date, and this must have been the cause; it has been flawless ever since.
Thank you again Vipir for your help.

  • Crawling text looks messy on the DVD, almost like I've got double-vision...

Hi, I just finished a Showreel of all my work, put together in Final Cut Pro.
I exported it as a Quicktime movie and then used Toast 6 Titanium to burn it onto DVD using the 'High Quality' option.
The footage has come out fine but one thing concerning me is some crawling text I have going across the bottom of the screen; when I read it, it's like I've got double-vision, it just looks messy and not very sharp at all.
Why has this happened and how do I resolve it?
I'm sending this Showreel out to potential employers and something like this won't look very professional.
    Thanks for any help,
    Alex Wilding

I'm not sure how to correctly describe the "creepy" effect that results from vertically animating the text generators in FCP, but they seem to always be there. There are also compression artifacts that add to this that result from the DV compression, if that is the codec you are using.
One way I solve the first issue is to create my credit rolls in photoshop as a very tall layer, and animate that in FCP. It's a little more tedious, but the results are much better.
If I need to work in DV, and experience DV compression artifacts, I will create my credit roll in an uncompressed sequence and export to a self-contained movie to re-import to my DV sequence. FCP seems to do better at rendering uncompressed video to DV than it does at rendering the composite of your text and background directly to DV.
    hope this helps

  • Final cut pro double vision

i took my video using SONY HDR-CX550, then I use FCP "LOG AND TRANSFER" and edit and create my simple video. By the way i tried both SD and HD. then I export to DVD Studio Pro to create my and burn my DVD. everything came out good but i notice that the video has a double vision when the clip is moving fast. At first i thought it was my dvd payer but i tried different player and even tried it on my Macbook Pro and it does the same thing.
    i need help.
    CTV

Well, apart from the solution I gave...
I'd go back to the original quality footage and use a deinterlacer filter on it. BUT you'll lose quality there too. By choosing to shoot 1080i means you wanted what you shot to be in 1080i. Now you are compromising your vision for something different. Or you just didn't know why you chose 1080i and so now it doesn't make a difference and you just want the interlacing to be gone. Which is ok too -- but even amateurs need to understand why interlacing is GOOD and why progressive is GOOD.
I hope you googled what I asked you to.
There is another reason why you might be seeing what you are seeing. But without really describing it better I don't know if it is this or that...
The camera you have (and most if not all sub $1500 hd cameras have what is called a CMOS rather than a CCD as an imaging sensor. With the CMOS you get a ROLLING effect that can be quite disturbing. Even to the point where Sony puts a bit about it in their own manual for this camera:
The subjects passing by the screen very fast appear crooked.
 This is called the focal plane phenomenon. This is not a malfunction. Because of the way the image device (CMOS sensor) reads out image signals, the subjects passing by the lens rapidly might appear crooked depending on the recording conditions.
This "Focal Plane Phenomenon" is a nice way of saying 'we put a cheap chip in your camera' (uh oh, I feel the hate coming... (so let me ease the pain)) ... that can produce BEAUTIFUL stuff if you know its limitations and don't try to get something from it that it can't give you.
    Good luck,

  • Laptop scree double vision

    my laptop screen double vison

    Hi @ bubai ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your Compaq Presario CQ40 Notebook and issues with what looks like double vision.
Have you tried hooking it up to an external monitor? That would tell me if it is graphic or the LCD display.
If it looks fine on a monitor then it is the LCD.  Here is a link on troubleshooting the display.
Please let me know how this goes.
    Thanks.

  • Lenovo G560 - Issue with won't boot and black screen after HDD upgrade

Lenovo G560 - Issue with won't boot and black screen after HDD upgrade.
What happen: My laptop was working fine, no blue screen issue, no funny business at all. I bought a new SSD Intel 120 GB and thought it would be a good idea to replace the HDD. I shutdown and disconnected the power adapter, waited a couple of minutes and removed the battery. I opened up the back case and replaced the HDD. And put all the screws back and put the battery back in.
Problem: The very first time I turned the power on, nothing happens besides a black screen. I pressed the dvd drive it works and opens up and closes. I waited for about 30 mins and still has blac screen. When I mean black screen, no bios menu, no logo, just a black screen with the fan sound on.
    I have tried these:
    1. Unplugged everything - battery, adapter, and pressed the power on button for about 60 seconds, nothing, the laptop turns on with the LED display on for both on and battery LED's. But nothing but black screen, no sound of windows loading just the fan and black screen.
    2. I tried putting back my old 2.5" and nothing but black screen.
    Thoughts and suggestions?
