Go to my iTunes scripts page and follow the link there for downloading Perl (if you don't have it already). Install Perl, and then run my itunesremoveduplicates script to remove duplicate songs from the playlists you select.
Please note, it will NOT remove duplicates from your Library playlist, only from other playlists. I've found that if there are duplicates in the Library itself, that means there is more than one copy of the song on your computer (i.e. the Library will not show the exact same song file more than once). In that case of duplicate files on the computer, I do not want a script deciding which file to delete!

Double click song does nothing

Hello,
I'm having problems with song playback.
When I double click or press enter on a song, it does not start from the beginning, it pauses briefly then continues to play.
Also, songs resume from their last position and not from the beginning. For example, if I listen to 30 seconds of track 5 then switch to track 4, after track 4 ends playback resumes at 30 seconds into track 5 and not from the beginning.

Right-click the song(s) that are doing that. Choose Get Info, go to the Options tab, and uncheck "Remember playback position."

My iPhone is showing doubles of songs that aren't doubles on iTunes

I just recently enabled the "Automatic Downloads" options for my iPod and ever since then all the songs I've purchased have been doubled on my iPhone. When I check iTunes there are no doubles and then when I hit "Display Duplicates" none come up. I checked the purchased playlist on my phone and there are doubles there as well but not on the iTunes purchased playlist. I deleted the ones on my phone and synced it but the doubles are still on my iPod. How do I get rid of these doubles and prevent futures ones?

You can only import photos that are in the camera roll. Photos in other albums can not be imported that way.

ITunes doubles every song on an album when I import it

every time I import an album from my computer, iTunes doubles everything. So if there is really 12 songs on an album there will be 24 with every song on there twice. What the **** is going on?

I have the exact same problem... Please someone solv this! Or get going on getting us iTunes for linux... How hard can it be?

Why did iTunes double my songs?

I was syncing my iPhone and I went to listen to my music and realized I had doubles of all of my songs. I was just wondering if there is a way that I can delete the duplicates.

(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:

Is there a way to automatically ID &/or delete copies/doubles of songs?

I have several copied versions of my iTunes library on external HD's, and when I travel with my music, I use my laptop and then add music, and so I have several copies of my library, but none of them are complete. I am concerned re consolidating them because it appears that when one does that, it doesn't identify copies, and so I'd have to go through and delete all the doubles, which is a pain in the *!! Any instructions out there??? Thanks. Ben

Not sure about iTunes, but I do know that Tune Tools ( http://www.valusoft.com/products/tunetools.html )will show duplicates and allow for easy removal. I got mine as a gift, but I've see it in at Best Buy/CompUSA for $20. I'm sure there are other programs that'll do the same thing...

M3U Playlist doubles the song

Hi, I used to save playlist from Winamp in M3U format.
When I slide my playlists in iTunes one by one, iTunes adds all of the songs again to my library. The playlist are based on songs all contained in my library. My library contains all of my 7600 songs and I use playlists to filter those down.
I have tried figuring out this for a couple months now... I can't believe I am the only one stuck with this problem!
I noticed that when I slide the playlist into iTunes, it would populate the Name field with $artist$ - $title$ sort of format instead of simply $title$. All of my tags are correct and are displaying correctly in iTunes except for those "dupe-added" from M3U playlists

I'm getting the same problem.
I'm just moving over to iPod/iTunes from Windows Media player and another mp3 player. I have all my playlists in .m3u format. There are 1000's of songs in some of them so deleting the duplicates isn't an option. I also tried the method suggested on this post - Preferences, Advanced, "Copy files to iTunes music folder..." and unfortunately this didn't work either.
When I import m3u files into iTunes, it creates duplicate entries in my library. If I close and then re-open iTunes, the imported playlist will lose every song in the playlist and give me a message: '+The song "Song name" could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?+' Sure I could locate every song but when there are 1000's this isn't an option.
I'm hunting around for a solution but are yet to find one.
The only suggestion that sounds promising is:
"+I had to import the .m3u playlists into iTunes (which created duplicates and is extremely slow), then export those playlists as .txt files (which is fast), then wipe the iTunes library and rebuild it, then import the .txt playlists (which is also fast and did not create duplicates), then restore the iPod and reload everything onto it. I haven't tried this yet as it might take a while.

Double Vision (Song listing)

When I go to my choice of songs and they start to play the wording is blurred and meshed together with the wording behind it too. It is only when I pick a song.

I have never heard of this issue before, but im afraid it sounds like you have a hardware issue, bring it to an apple store if you can, they would have a better idea by seeing it. You can find one here:

Double skipping songs from the progress bar???

In iTunes 7 playback, sliding the progress bar "diamond" all the way to right now causes not only the current song to end, but totally skips the next song in the playlist as well.
Is anyone else experiencing this?

I had been deleting some of the double songs that are on I-tunes and suddenly all but three of my bob dylan albums collection dissapeared . . can i get them back ? if i can ,how do i ?

I had been deleting some of the double Dylan songs that are in my I-tunes library and suddenly most of my Bob Dylan collection dissappered . I was requesting to "save file" at the time . How would I get those songs back - if it's possible ? Jim

I am assuming you never backed up your computer.
Sounds like you still may have problems with your PC.

ITunes Match keeps downloading songs on iPad 2

I have an iPad 2 anud turned on iTunes Match. I realized that I was downloading doubles of songs onto my iPad via my playlists (Purchased AAC and AAC) and I turned some of the songs off and I went to the iTunes store to purchase a new album and found out I was downloading and I have automatic downloads turned off on my iPad. Why is that happening and how do I get it to stop. Do I turn off iTunes Match and the see all downloaded and then sync?? Need help... My 16 gigs is filled up so when I delete a few downloaded songs I didn't even download from the cloud, it downloads more. It's a vicious cycle

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the iPad shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the iPad back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray before doing the reset.
I would suspect, but not certain, you should go ahead and turn Match On before the reset, but it just as easily could be irrelevent.
Woudl also add that the first time I turn iTunes Match On on the iPad, it turned out to be best to let it site and run a few minutes before attempting anything. But I have a sizable (17,000 track) library. After that all was well.

My iTunes says I owe $5.25 for songs that I have already paid for and am not going to pay for again but I want to get some apps from the store and now there's a hold on my account. Who do I talk to get the hold taken off

You're right, it would have been covered under warranty. But because of the user damage, chances are there's a 200-something dollar fee . If you explain to them that it had a defect previously, they might replace it for you at no charge. **MIGHT**. But they would have to believe that it had a defect previously.

Library won't play more than one song at a time

What gives? My iTunes suddenly won't play a sequence of songs. Not from the library as a whole, not from any playlist. The files are all still there and I can highlight and play any ONE, but iTunes won't then go on to the next. Tried 'select all', that didn't work either. What setting have I accidently changed? Just downloaded the newest iTunes just in case, but that didn't help. Still only 1 song at a time. Makes using iTunes as background pretty useless.

Are you saying that when you hit PAUSE the song doesn't stop playing?
If you want to jump to a different song while one is already playing, you don't need to hit pause/stop at all. Simply go to the song you want to here, double click it and the song that was playing will stop and the double clicked song will start. No need to use the Stop/Pause/Play type controls at all.
