DOUBTS FOR MIGRATION FROM 10.1.2 TO 10.1.3

Hi all,
I have done an attempt to migrate a simple web app from 10.1.2 (using UIX technology) to 10.1.3; the migration seem ok, but at run-time appear the error in the browser:
500 Internal Server Error
Cannot get request dispatcher for path /test.uix
I have much doubts if the migration tool works effectively...
Can anyone explain its experience? Can solve my doubts?
Thanks,
Matteo

Matteo,
if you have used some "advanced" UIX features not existing in JSF (like Templates) then all the "migration tool" will do is comment out everything in your page.
Converting from UIX to JSF means basically recreating the UI in JSF by hand.
And yes, Oracle promised to support for UIX in 10.1.3, but in the end they broke that promise.
So if you have UIX running and cannot do the migration to JSF then you will have to stick to 10.1.2. There is no design time for UIX in 10.1.3. People tried to get the runtime at least to work on a 10.1.3 ADF layer and failed.

  • Advice for migrating from Exchange to OS X Server

I am in the process of migrating away from Microsoft products altogether. The biggest beast of all is going to be Exchange.
I am looking at imapsync as a possible method of migrating user mailboxes. Is there anyone here who has undergone this task? Are there any better solutions out there for migrating the mailboxes over?
    Thanks in advance.

    slopresto wrote:
    Is it really that problematic?
I am supporting (begrudgingly) a number of OS X Mail servers. What Apple has up to now has not been very good. No vacation messaging without rolling your own add-in, weak web mail interface, poor integration with other Apple products (iPhone), randomly corrupted databases for no apparent reason, the inability to maintain read/not read status on reconstruct or migration, poor spam handling, no migration tools. I call it the problem of the week. I got a new one today. Unlike any other problem ever seen so far. And it effects one account only. I will admit that I am just tired of it. Does it work. Mostly. But there are better solutions on the platform than the built in solution. Now, this "may" change when Snow Leopard is released. http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/09/02/13/snowleopard_server_to_ramp_up_scalability_andperformance.html which I can not confirm nor deny.
I have used straight postfix on Linux before with only an occasional problem, but never in a corporate environment.
Sadly, this is postfix on OS X, not postfix on Linux. As sad as this is to say, there is a difference and the difference is not in favor of OS X.
My boss, on the other hand has been a Mac guy for 10+ years and assures me that I will be impressed by the performance gains and lack of issues we will have by switching over from Microsoft products.
You will have gains. You will not be tied to licensing fees. You will not be plagued by the intricacies of an Exchange server and its myriad of updates, patches, tweaks, and adjustments. Heck, you will not have to reboot the machine every week to keep it from crashing. OS X has a lot of advantages over Windows in a server environment. OS X has a lot of really good services that are rock solid (BIND, Apache, racoon, the dev tools, Apple File Services (yes, I said it, it is a really good filing protocol!), Podcast server, wikis, directory services, chat server...) that make the OS X a swiss army knife of sorts. But in my experience, mail has been an afterthought and generally more trouble than it is worth.
As a side note, I should mention that Apple did pull off some real magic with the one checkbox mail cluster. I you have an Xsan and are load balancing your mail servers, the setup is beyond easy. There, I said something nice.
Is there anyone out there who has done this successfully and may perhaps know of an easy method of migrating the mailboxes in. Right now, it is a toss up between imapsync and doing a straight import via Outlook using their pst files from the nightly exmerge.
There are methods of doing the migration. If you decide to import via Outlook, I suggest doing a rule based move. If you do a drag and drop, the IMAP connection will likely drop after a few hundred messages and then you have no idea where it stopped. Create a rule to do the move. It will take longer but the time lost to frustration and manually finding where the copy stopped equals out.
Good luck in your migration. I am sorry if I came down negative. OS X Server is a great product. I just have a lot of criticism about the mail implementation. I will say, I am looking forward to September a bit as my opinion may change.

  • Resources for migration from legacy Cisco VPN client to AnyConnect?

As the legacy client is now officially EOL'd, and it is having issues with Windows 7 - the need has presented itself to migrate to AnyConnect.
The complicating issue here is that many of the machines that need to be migrated connect remotely and never touch a corporate LAN - as such - I need to devise a means to remotely and seamlessly (as much as possible) migrate from old to new.  Sounds a bit like changing the wings on a flying plane, but I'm guessing others have had to face the same issue.  By procrastinating this migration - my hope is that your blood spilled will be mine saved?  (Just kidding. Sorta).
Any tips, input, suggestion, procedures, FAQs,  good luck wishes, etc. greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    JP

    Hi Andy
Anyconnect licensing is a little complicated, but 99% of the time you only need the "Essentials" AnyConnect license for your ASAs. This gives you everything that you have using the old Cisco VPN Client.
Essentials is licensed per ASA, and not per user like the other ASA AnyConnect licenses.
AnyConnect Premium gives you all that Essentials give you plus "clientless" VPN (Web portal type stuff).
Configuration wize - it's pretty simple and similar to how you configure the old VPN support. There's a wizard to assist you in configuring it if you like that kind of thing.

  • How to reset laptop for migration from Time Machine

I got my wife a new Macbook Air, with 10.8 on it. I was going to migrate her stuff from a 10.6 iMac via migration assistant and her Time Machine external drive. But she logged in, creating her username, before I had a chance to do the migration. My understanding is that this is a mistake because if I migrate now, I'll have to pick a different username which may cause issues with the restore. As far as I know, we want to migrate before logging in for the first time, so that her one and only username can come from the Time Machine backup. Assuming I got this right, what do I do now - how do I get the laptop to the "factory" condition with no users? I did a restore OS (boot command-R) but after the restore, it still shows her username on the login screen! What do I do?

Restart from the recovery partition, use the Disk Utility to erase the internal drive, and then install the OS.

  • Best practices for migrating from 10.4 XServe to 10.5 XServe

    Hi--
Suggestions welcomed for the following scenario. I have an almost 3-year-old XServe G5, running OS X Server 10.4.11. I have a brand new XServe Xeon on order, which of course will come with Server 10.5.(1).
The following are the critical services running on my current XServe:
    --An Open Directory database with approximately 200 users;
    --Around 50 file shares
--The data itself stored in the shared folders
What is the best way to migrate my Open Directory information from old to new? I know that a 10.5 server cannot be a replica for a 10.4 OD master.
I know that I can use the password export instructions provided on AFP548, or at least I know I could use them in 10.4. Has anyone successfully exported users/passwords from 10.4 and imported them into 10.5?
I think I could install 10.4.11 on the new XServe, make it an OD Replica, promote it to Master, take the old Master offline, then upgrade the new XServe to 10.5.
Alternately, I could clone my current server, then upgrade it to 10.5, make the new one a replica, then promote, etc. I will eventually want to get the old server on 10.5, as its intended role is to be a Time Machine Server.
Suggestions welcomed. Should I just stick with 10.4 for now, rolling back the new server and waiting on 10.5 for a few months? My preference would be to get both of these servers on 10.5 during the downtime for the migration, but I'm open to new ideas.
Will migrating the Open Directory info also migrate the shares? In other words, if I set up a folder structure on the new server identical to the old, and bring the data over, will I have to recreate my shares and their respective permissions?
    Thanks in advance.
    Eric

I would recommend shutting off mail services and then booting your server on another drive and, using Carbon Copy Cloner, copy the disk to the new server. Disconnect the old server from the network, connect the new server and then boot it up and immediately start an upgrade on the new server to 10.5.0 then 10.5.1. If it fails, revert to the old before starting mail services.
I did that upgrading an old sawtooth 10.4.11 to a mini with 10.5.1 and it went well except for all the virtual hosts for web sites. Still have not solved that one - just did the upgrade this weekend.

  • Plans for migration from JDev 10 to JDev 11

    Hi
I just review online demos for JDeveloper 11, and I have a question about future migration path. In our company we now create applcaions in 10.1.3 version - (jsp not jspx pages - maybe it is mistake ?). It will be possible in future to migrate our ADF Faces applicattons to 11 version. Graphs and tamplates in new version are very impressive :)
    Kuba

    Hi,
you can upgrade applications from 10.1.3 to JDeveloper 11. However, this will take your application and run it as it is just using the newer components. So upwards compatibility is a primary goal.
However, we don't think we can automate the upgrade of an ADF Faces application of today to e.g. an ADF Faces Rich Client Framework application because of the changed lifecycle.
Its too early yet to say what will be possible and what isn't.

  • Connection to use for migration from older intel iMac to newest iMac (2013)

I have a new iMac on order and since it does not have firewire ports I am wondering what to use for content migration connection from the old (20 inch iMac) to the new one.
Is my only opion a USB cable?

I chose Setup Assistant because of advice I was given here, actually. Both Setup Assistant and Migration Assistant work well, but I didn't want any hassles than can ensue with Migration Assistant if you enter a username during the initial setup process that's the same name as what you'll be bringing over with Migration Assistant.
Using Setup Assistant all of my preferences seemed to make the move just fine. I had to arrange Apple Mail the way I had it before, but that was quick and easy. Even my Dock, which I had on the left side of my screen, appeared in the same location on my new iMac.
    (Your mileage may vary...  ).

  • Prep for Migration from PC to Mac (Ext Drive)

I plan to purchase a Mac desktop in a few months. I need to backup my PC files (cause I never have!) and create some hard drive space on my sluggish PC. Can I do the following: 1) Use an external hard drive and back-up all files 2) Upon Mac purchase, transfer all files to Mac from PC (plug ext HD to Mac?) 3) After migration is done, reformat external drive to use with my new Mac. I'd hate to buy an external HD and not be able to use it with new Mac. Is there some 3rd party migration software that would make this process easier?

Would it be helpful to get MacDrive 7 to enable seamless sharing between the PC and Mac? If I use that software, would I not have to reformat the drive once I go 100% Mac?
I'm a bit confused. You first say that you want to go 100% Mac, but then say that you want to share the drive with a PC and a Mac. Could you elaborate a bit on exactly what it is you're hoping to accomplish? It is possible to share an external drive between a PC and a Mac without purchasing extra software; just format the drive as FAT32 (MS-DOS format through Disk Utility on the Mac; the drive may well ship that way).

  • Checklist for migration from oracle 9i to oracle 10g DB

    Hi all,
My previous DB was Oracle 9i.I want to migrate it to Oracle 10g DB.
So can anybody provide me the checklist for the same ?
    Thanks in advance....

It doesn't matter how long this process may take to read the entire upgrade documentation. You are supposed to perform this procedure first on a testing environment prior to perform it against the actual production database, you can take all the time you need to customize trim and tailor the procedure to your particular environment requirements. Don't expect anybody else to provide a shortcut, you will find at the end it will take you more time to correct missing upgrade steps and you will -most probably- have to read much more google references and metalink documents that will size bigger than the upgrade guide.
I suggest you to read through the upgrade document, and don't look for shortcuts. I also suggest you to document issues you may find when performing the upgrade. In my particular scenario I had to deal with an ORA-04030 error, among other things after I performed an upgrade process. You may want to take a look at the not documented Issues I had to face after a production upgrade, and even though I read through the upgrade guide and performed several testing upgrades, there are issues such as user's actual workload that cannot be accurately measured in a testing environment.
