Doubts in upgrading 3.5 to BI 7

Hi,
we are going to upgrade from 3.5 to bi 7.0.Please answer for my questions.
1. in Bi 7 Data flow is different
datasources - (infopackage) -> PSA -(DTP) -> data target.
what happens the existing data flow in 3.5 otherwise we have to create from scratch.
what to do when we want to load directly to data target without storing in PSA.
2.what happens to process chains.
how to automate load process. Is there any new process for DTP.
what happens to existing process chains.?
what are the modifications to be carried out?
3.how to schudule DTP?
4.what happens to existing queries and web reports.
Thanks,
cheta

Dear Cheta,
Hope u r aware of upgrade types, which are:
1. Technical
2. Functional
Technical upgrade is nothing but upgrading 3.x system as it is, here u'll find all the dataflows only upgraded in BI 7. No DTP, no separate PSA load, no modelling from scrach. You just need to test everything with older version, I mean Data, routines or whatever things were there before upgrade.
Functional upgrade is usually carried out after successful go-live of technical upgrade. Her you do all migration is required.
You don't have to create anything from scrach, just some configuration setting to be made. You'll get all that in old format. You can also run RSA1OLD to see 3.5 struture. Untill you create smthing in BI 7's new format no need to incorporate DTP, so problem in PC, it will work as it was in 3.5.
DTP can be sceduled through PC, there is separate process type for that.
Your existing reports and web charts will work, if you want to migrate them into BI 7 format, just open in BI 7 and save in that.
you can learn more about BI 7 on:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/84/497e4ec079584ca36b8edba0ea9495/frameset.htm
Hope it helps...

  • Doubt with Upgrade Portal 701 to 7.4

    Hi.
Two years ago installed  SAP NW 701. And for this the BP ESS /MSS 1.41
Note: compatible XSS Java components are SAP ESS 603, SAP MSS 600, PCUI_GP 603 and EHP4 compatible Portal Business Packages (BP) are ESS/MSS version 1.41
For this project, Two years ago, we copied the roles delivered by SAP to roles custemer for ESS&MSS in the portal using Portal Content.
Now we need install a new system portal with version 7.3 for upgrade our system portal.
    Questions:
What is the process for transport the objects(Roles Java For ESS &MSS already created in the portal 701) to portal target 7.31?
My question because to the restrictions found in the blog In the point 5:
Manual content transport: Due to restrictions in the export mechanism of SAP NetWeaver 7.0, you cannot simply export, transport and import content and related properties or configurations into a fresh new system (e.g. some KM services). Check the transport information indocumentation for KM 7.0 and KM 7.3 for details on supported scenarios. SAP recommends running a thorough upgrade assessment with your consulting partner in order to make a profound decision.
In the new portal installl we will install The new re-compiled Java packages for NW 7.3 are called ESS 633, MSS 630, PCUI_GP 633.
    My question:
I shoudl Create a copy of the role delivered for this package or exist a way for copy this content of SAP NW 701 to SAP NW 7.3?
What is the better practice  SAP?

    Dear.
In this moment the client not want update to WDA.
We have modified the component of personal information. because my country not have services delivered by SAP.
The steps to follow are: Install the portal 7.4 and install the following package:
    BP ESS 1.41
    BP MSS 1.41
    SAP_ESS 633
    SAP PCUI_GP 633
    SAP_MSS 630
    Deploy apply XSS packages modificated.
Export content SAP NW 701 (folder ESS copied of the folder standars) to SAP NW 7.4?

  • Doubts about upgrading from Production Premium CS5 to CS6

    — I actually have CS5 Production Premium installed on my iMac
    — I recently ordered the upgrade from CS5 to CS5.5 just to have a free path from CS5.5 to CS6 (but I never installed that CS5.5 on my system)
    — Now, with the CS6 installer on my hand, I'm ready to update to CS6, directly from CS5.
First question, just to be sure: this updater will REMOVE the previous CS5 version, converting it to CS6?
Second question (since I'm almost sure that the updater will “add” a new version, CS6, maintaining the previous CS5): it's secure to preserve that old CS5 version side by side to the new CS6 on the same computer?
(I ask this, in prevision, because I plan to maintain CS5 and CS6 for some time, just to have a “lifeguard” in the case that I could suffer some stability problem with the recent launched version).
    Thanks for your support :-)

Thanks for your quick answer, Manish.
Hmmm, that sentence “…you may face issue while installing hence have a look on that…” sounds a bit disturbing, to be sincere :-/
You mean, maybe, that it would be better and safer to delete CS5 before installing CS6, in order to avoid possible installation problems?
I'm sorry if I seem too afraid, but I would prefer to make a clean and peaceful transition, since I am in the middle of some projects…
Thanks again for your advices :-)

  • ASM UPGRADE

    Hi,
I have some doubt in ASM Upgrade and thats what I would like to discuss this issue here.If I am going to upgrade database, clusterware and asm then the approach should be like below:-->
Database version from 10.1.0.5 to 10.2.0.4
    OS AIX 5.3 TL8
    (1)install new crs_home clusterware 10.2.0.4
(2)upgrade database to 10.2.0.4 from 10.1.0.5 by installing new Oracle_home
    (3) Upgrade ASM from 10.1.0.5 to 10.2.0.4 by installing separate oracle_home.
Here I have doubt in upgrading asm from old to new version.Does it going to affect datafile during asm instance upgrade. If not then what is the method to upgarde asm in such a environment.
Please help me out on this topic.
    Thanks in advance!
    Mk

    Hello Mk,
Take a look on Metalink note 730365.1 (Oracle Database Upgrade Path Reference List) and read the patchset documentation.
You must upgrade ASM before upgrade the database. Then I think the correct order would be (1,3,2) on your case.
Also there are a howto on http://mufalani.blogspot.com/2009/06/applying-10204-patch-on-rac-systems.html

  • Upgrade of database in Dataguard Configuration

    Hi,
I have few doubts regarding upgrading of database in in a dataguard configuration. Could someone please help me out.
    - How does upgrade happen in dataguard configuration?
    - Is that we have to install only different OH in both? And once the catupgrade script is run on primary, it will automatically upgrade standby as well?
    - Or is that we have to upgrade both separately? i.e, standby first and then primary or vice versa
    - Can we reduce downtime by breaking the dataguard config. Do a switchover and make secondary as primary and upgrade primary first?
And once the upgrade is completed in primary, bring it up and later upgrade the standby. And later once the upgrade is completed on standby, synch both primary and standby.
Please share your ideas and thoughts!
    Thanks!

First of all, -steps may differ regarding the upgrade versions but- my post with the following link would help you clarify the concept.

  • Upgrading to Aperture 3 on Snow Leopard iMac 4gb, worth the risk?

Friends, thanks in advance for your advice. I currently run Aperture 2 on a 2008 iMac, Snow Leopard, 4 GB. I am frozen in doubt to upgrade to Lion and/or Aperture 3 because of the tremendous number of reports of slowness. My new camera is not supported in RAW on Aperture 2, it's a Fuji x10, which is a great street machine. I wanted to upgrade to get RAW support, and slide show capability.
    My questions:
    1. If I stay with Snow Leopard and move to Aperture 3 will I be okay? I am maxed at 4 GB RAM.
    2. If it does work decently, will I have to stay on Snow Leopard or do you think Apple will figure out the problem so I can use Lion with its multitouch advantages?
Final thought:  I fear that Apple is just not committed to Aperture because the math does not add up. Market share versus Photoshop is negligible. I enjoy my iMac, but it appears that the money is flowing to the iPad, and iPhone because of the tremendous user base.

    Hi Tim,
    1. If I stay with Snow Leopard and move to Aperture 3 will I be okay? I am maxed at 4 GB RAM.
I use Aperture 3 on a 2007 MacBook with Snow Leopard.  When I upgraded from Aperture 2, I noticed that adjusting pictures is not immediate, like it was in Aperture 2.  There is a fractional second delay for most adjustments.  This got a bit better in some subsequent release of Aperture 3, but to my recollection, it is not as good as it was in Aperture 2.  Depending on which format I am viewing my photos (browser/viewer), the delay may be almost unnoticable or minorly irritating.  (Of course, I cannot compare them together anymore, and it has been a year since I used Aperture 2.)  Knowing about the delay in adjustments, coupled with the new features of Aperture 3, I still think I am in a better position with Aperture 3 than with Aperture 2.
    2. If it does work decently, will I have to stay on Snow Leopard or do you think Apple will figure out the problem so I can use Lion with its multitouch advantages?
When you say "The problem", do mean our perceived lack of performance from Aperture?  It's hard to say what Apple is thinking.  I have never known a software maker to make software faster in general -- they just wait for people to get faster machines while adding new features to the existing software.  We do not know what Apple is working on, but we can all hope they examine their software for inefficiencies and redesign things when they find them.
fear that Apple is just not committed to Aperture because the math does not add up. Market share versus Photoshop is negligible. I enjoy my iMac, but it appears that the money is flowing to the iPad, and iPhone because of the tremendous user base.
Aperture is not in the same niche as Photoshop; Apple knows this, too.  We have continued to get minor updates to Aperture since version 3 debuted, including one less than 2 months ago.  They are still working on it.  That's all we can really say, though.  If you want to see a whole lot of pure speculation and people getting angry at what Aperture 4 might bring, see this thread about.  Personally, I agree mostly with the comments about Apple dumbing down Aperture, making the advanced features harder to find and use -- sort of like how Microsoft has made Windows 7 for the anti-power-user and left the power-user wondering how to do things effectively.  That's just our speculation, though.  For me, it's mostly based on inane questions in this forum.  In other words, if the Aperture team makes Aperture work for the people asking those inane questions, Aperture will probably not be as useful to me as it is now.

  • Regarding Upgrade

    Hi Guru's,
I have two doubts regarding upgrade work.
    1. when we are doing unicode remediation for the obslelute function modules, if in older system if they handling any exceptions how we can handle those in ECC new system. I mean to say if they are displaying some messages according to the exception how we can handle??.
2.Describe field statement with addition in CHARACTER MODE or BYTE MODE?..When to use CHARACTER MODE and when to use BYTE MODE??
    Please clarify..
    Thanks & Regards,
    SASTRY R.

    Hello,
    1. When replacing a obsolete function module, if any exceptions are handled, you will have to manually map those exceptions in the newer function module and handle accordingly.
    2. The type of the field on which the DESCRIBE statement is used will determine if it should be a CHARACTER or BYTE mode. If the type is C,N,D,T,S go for character mode else BYTE mode.

  • Upgradations

    Hi all
I have got a few doubts in upgradation.Suppose SAP has done modification to a standard program in MM module in version 4.7.Then What they will call this new version of SAP. Whether this is a new version or a new release. Why so many subversion's are coming like 4.7E 4.7Release etc....Whenever a modification comes to a standard program or a transaction whether they will change the version or what. Please give me a proper answer.
    Regards
    Biju

    Hi Biju,
Generally when a new version is released this new release contains new set of functionalities. The version numbers are indicative for this.
Whenever some SAP standard programs are modified either to rectify bugs or enhance functionality a service pack is created and released. This has to be applied by the customer. This is not same as a new version.
In the Eg given by you Suppose SAP has done modification to a standard program in MM module in version 4.7. then there will be a service pack(SP) applied to version 4.7.There is a regular cycle of SP's which are released. To give an analogy SPs are something like Updates.

  • Upgrade the ram on my 4710s Probook.

I am looking to upgrade the ram on my Probook 4710s. When I look up the specs of the part number VA024PA#ABG it says the it can use DDR2 or DDR3. see http://h20195.www2.hp.com/V2/GetPDF.aspx/c01722937.pdf
This does not sound right. I ran a program called CPU-Z and it indicates that I have 2 x 2048 Mb DDR2 modules installed.
Is it possible to use DDR3 RAM in this notebook?
Also, why does my System Properties show that I have 2.96GB or RAM?
    Thanking you in advance. John
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

DDR3 is cheaper and faster but the modules are different so they will not fit your laptop. You should be able to run 8 gigs but 4 gig modules of DDR2 are still prety expensive and I doubt the upgrade would do a lot for you. You have 3 gigs useable because of video use and also you likely have a 32 bit operating system. If you were going to try to run 8 gigs you would have to install 64 bit.

  • Sorry to ask again, but should I install Leopard on my 3 year old machine?

    Can my system handle it?
What steps should I take if I do decide to install Leopard clean (not upgrade.) I have an external drive and plan to back up any important settings or data. I have never wiped a Mac clean and reinstalled an operating system, because surprise... I haven't had to. (**** you Windows XP!)
But I would like to start fresh in hopes that a clean install will help overall performance.
    Thanks for reading.

    Shiloh wrote:
The other thing is that I'm not really sure there is anything of great importance on my machine. All of my music, photos, and office documents are already backed up on the external drive. The bookmarks and all of that... I'm not too attached to. I wouldn't mind starting over from scratch. Thanks again.
If you have all your important data backed up and you really don't care about anything else, then just go for an erase and install. It's the safest and if it doesn't work, you know it was not your fault, assuming your 3-year old meets the specs.
Just do a final recheck of what files you really need, make sure you have the latest copies of them. Don't forget passwords, bookmarks which you mentioned, etc. That's why a clone is best - you don't have to bother with the details. It's overkill, but it's safe.
With a 3-year old, I seriously doubt an upgrade would go smoothly, especially on a PPC.
And don't forget to unplug that external drive before installing Leopard. Yes, there have been reports of Leopard corrupting an external drive during installation. Even if they are only rumous, I would take them seriously.
Unplug the backup drive before installing Leopard

  • 2006 Macbook running 10.6.8 shuts down without warning

It's a 2006 Macbook (I bought new in 06) running os x 10.6.8.  Up until 6 months ago no problems what so ever with the computer.  I would be working and every once in a while, it would just shut down.  Replaced the battery less than a year ago.  Power supply (60w charger) had a short, so I replaced that about a week ago.  Computer is still shutting down without warning.  I did the 1.1 update on the OSX but it still acts up.  I'm lucky to be able to use the computer right now (it's been running for 20 minutes...this time).  Would it help if I upgraded to LION, or would it still do it then?  Any help please...I'm a musician and it's my livelyhood.
    Thanks,
    David

When a Mac shuts down without warning, it's doubtful an upgrade will be the fix. You need to find out what's causing the problem.
    Check the startup disk.
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utillities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click:  Verify Disk  (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If Disk Utility reports errors, restart the Mac while inserting the install disc and holding down the C key simultaneously. From there you should be able to repair the startup disk.
No errors were found, run the Apple Hardware Test >  Using Apple Hardware Test
If installed, anti virus software can cause system anomalies such as an unexpected shut down.

  • Just bought new MacBook Pro and can't get FCP Studio to load on it. Any Help!

I just bought a new MacBook Pro and I tried to load FCP Studio on it and it says it does not support it. I use FCP Studio 2 and I need to use it as I don't know FCP X. Any suggestions. I currently have FCP Studio 2 on a 2008 Mac Pro with Maverick on it.
    Thanks, Gale

Final Cut Studio 2? That's 8 years old...4 OS versions ago.  Mavericks doesn't take FCP 7 into account, much less FCP 6.  In fact, to even install FCP 6 onto the PREVIOUS OS, Mountain Lion, you had to hack the terminal, or install Pacifist and do some shenanigans to get it to recognize the installer.
In short, it's very difficult to get older, discontinued software to work on new computers with new OSs.  If you need to use FCP 6, then you need to stick to older computers and OS's that run it.
It is on your 2008 MBP because, no doubt, you upgraded the OS around the already installed apps.  I'm not sure how well it will work.
