Brand new 27-inch iMac Late 2013 repeatedly crashing with Mavericks
Hi folks,
I have a brand new 27-inch Mac from late 2013 running OS X 10.9.1 (Mavericks) with:
3.4 GHz Intel Core i5
32 GB RAM
3 TB Fusion drive
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4096 MB
My system is hanging repeatedly, requiring a forced restart by holding down the power button - kernel panic I guess. Can't find a specific trigger, but I might be missing something.
I've tried reinstalling the OS, and a full erase and reinstall, but I'm still getting the problem. I've also run the hardware checker and verified the hard disc - all report the system is OK.
Annoyingly I can't startup in safe mode - think that's to do with having a 3TB Fusion drive.
Any suggestions? If I need to post a crash log can you let me know what bit is needed?
Thanks for your help.
PS All the RAM was installed by Apple btw, so I don't think it's the mismatched voltage thing that others have had. Similarly, Google Drive is installed but not currently running.Hi Etrecheck - thanks for your help. I've run th software - here are the results:

I am gettting a constant crashing of my server Postgres process. It's been continuously populating my log files and it is unusable for things like Roundcube. Here is a snippet of what's in the log files.

This continues throughout the day and does not stop. I forcefully stopped the process with
sudo serveradmin stop postgres
However, I actually want to use the database for Roundcube. Is there any way to fix this? You would need to look at the Postgres error log. The only thing I can tell you is that the problem is not caused by any OS X Server process.

My MacBook Pro is experiencing repeated crashes
Hi there. I have a 4+ year old (yikes) MacBook Pro running 10.6.8. I've been having repeated system crashes where the screen goes blue and then pops back after a few seconds with no reboot but with all the previously running applications closed. When this first started happening, I thought that perhaps I was overtaxing it, simultaneously running too many applications such as FCP, etc. But now it's been happening with almost nothing running, usually just Chrome.
Its been a great machine with minimal problems up until now. A year and a half ago I had the video card replaced by Apple free of charge due to the Nvidia card issues. Then last month, I brought my computer into an Apple store with what I thought to be a logic board issue or RAM issues (hopefully related to the Nividia issue). However, I was told that it was not related to the Nividia issue and besides that, my computer was just too old to be servced free of charge even if the problem was the Nividia card. I walked out the next day $500 poorer but with a working computer with a new logic board.
However, since then, I have been experiencing repeated crashes. Before I take it back in for an exam, I thought I would inquire here and see if there was any sage advice. Below is the report of the most recent crash. Any help would of course be grealy appreciated.

Mavericks Server Calendar and Contacts services won't start.
Recently the calendar and contacts services stopped working. Client computers started getting errors like this:
"The server responded with an error https://[some UID and a lot of other info]... is not a location that supports this request."
It was suggested by Apple tech support to do a free install/rebuild, but that's not really an option simply because of the wiki. I've previously spent months trying to migrate wikis from Mountain Lion Server to Mavericks server; never coming across a working solution and ending up having to copy/paste every page from the old server to the new server. Apple had no working solution for migration wikis and instead suggested a reference to a Krypted site URL (which also didn't work).
Other services are working just fine, but here are the symptoms we're experiencing:
Calendar service has reported a code 0 at one point, but did not continue the error
Calendar service has reported a code -1 at one point, but did not continue the error
Calendar service in can be toggled on, but the service never starts and stays offline even though the toggle switch is "on".
Calendar service full status in Terminal.app is stuck in starting
Calendar and Contacts services seem to take a while to load the status pane in Server.app
Client computers get repeated, non-stop, connection error dialogue boxes in Calendar.app
Occasionally when I try to see the Contacts service status by select it, I get "A networking error occurred while trying to communicate with the server" - this is using Server.app on the server itself, not from a client computer.
It seems the two primary problems are starting the services and therefore connecting to them. Other services such as wiki and filesharing are working fine.
Any ideas folks?
BTW - my Time Machine backup did nothing to help the situation.Logs?

Motion crashing in Mavericks - Is Problem Report Helpful?
Motion is repeatedly crashing today running under Mavericks. Is the Problem Report helpful to users in determining what is causing the problem?
Here is some of the info from the report. Is this interpritable by humans (or animators)?
At the top it mentions that Thread 5 crashed:
Crashed Thread: 5
Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x0000000000000018
Then at the Thread 5 section it says:

What exactly are you doing when you hit this crash? Giving details always helps, when people post details I usually try the steps if they provided them.
Paste the full thread, including the header. Sometimes someone will catch details like the OS or app version being out of date, or the application has been moved to a location it should not be (burried inside multiple folders).
Make sure you submit the crash to Apple! Any time I hit a crash I always submit a the report with an explanation of what I was doing. -
ITunes repeatedly crashes while converting video
When I try to convert a video in my library into an iPod-compatible format, iTunes repeatedly crashes, anywhere from 5 minutes to a few hours into the conversion, and it gives me the message "iTunes has stopped working." Has anyone else had this issue, and is there a way to solve it?
Thanks,
SteveHello, Welcome to discussions. Below are some informational articles that may assist you today along with some suggestions.
1. Make sure your Vista Updates are up to date. You can access this by pressing on the Vista Orb Start button, then scrolling through programs, and choosing Windows Update. And pressing Check for Updates. This will communicate with the server and show you all available Windows Software, Hardware Driver updates.
You may also wish to check your computer manufactures website for the latest updates as well to increase performance with your video card and over all system updates related to your computer.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/windowsupdate/learn/windowsvista.mspx
2. Download and Install the latest version of iTunes for your OS if it has not already been downloaded.
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
*Close out of any un-needed programs when converting a movie. This will free up RAM and other resources for your system to devote to iTunes and the conversion process.

Recently upgraded OS X Server 10.6.8 to Server.app 3.2.2 and now the System Log is getting flooded with the following message repeatedly...

Jan 15 15:58:35 --- last message repeated 498 times ---
This is repeating basically every second. Only services enabled are File Sharing, NetInstall & Open Directory (and DeployStudio server). I'm trying to find the source.
Any ideas? Thanks! What type of external storage do you have connected. The IOSCSITagetDevice would suggest iSCSI or possibly and outdated SCSI driver. Any chance you have old ATTO drivers that snuck in on the upgrade? Are you using iSCSI? Are all your volumes working? Take a look in /Library/StartupItems for legacy startup scripts. Maybe check out /Library/LaunchDaemons and LaunchAgents to see if there is any junk in there.

Migration from MS Exchange 2003 to Mavericks Server
Can anyone recommend a migration path from MS Exchange 2003 to OS X Mavericks Server? The key features to be migrated and used with the new server are: email, contacts, calendar, group tasks management, file sharing.
Also, any hardware recommendation? Is Mac mini enough for a group of about 6-8 other Macs or could we benefit from the new Mac Pro? Perhaps an iMac (with a Fusion Drive)?
Thanks for any suggestions.Reginato Gobbo wrote:
knowing the limitations, I d´like to know if there is any tool to migrate all the mailbox from Exchange Server 2007 to Mavericks Server.
I don't think you know the limitations — Exchange Server provides rather more than what Postfix and Dovecot do.
This is a generic Exchange Server to Postfix/Dovecot migration, which — in conjunction with the imapsync option — might find some other discussions.
For migrating from Exchange Server itself, AFAIK, no, there are no packaged tools for that available. Tools such as imapsync can be used to migrate mail among imap servers, which can be an option here once imap is enabled on the Exchange Server, and once you know (or reset) all the passwords. Or you can select all and then drag and drop the messages.
Slightly closer to Exchange Server in capabilities are the Zimbra and Kerio products. Zimbra has migration tools, IIRC.
FWIW, please do not thread-jack, it just confuses the discussions — or at least it usually just ends up confusing readers. This is a very different question from the original, and should be its own separate thread. -
MfE repeatedly crashes on E71 - reinstall is ONLY ...
Hi everyone, Sorry if this has been answered before, i couldn't find it. I run MfE on my E71 and my exchange server is a 2003 version hosted by a highly respected mainstream provider. Every few days or so, the programme simply refuses to start up automatically when when the phone is switched on. If I then click on the menu MfE icon, absolutely nothing happens and the ONLY way to resolve this is to delete the programme and re-install it. Every time! This repeated crashing/hanging is extremely frustrating and yet I cannot find anything about it on the web. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a solution? thanks in advance Nick
Hi there
This seems to be an issue with MfE at the moment and I wish they would fix it soon. I have the same problem with E90-1's and other Eseries devices.

Acrobat repeatedly crashes in batch mode - compress / OCR
Hi.
I have c. 2000 scanned documents, each of 300 - 700 Mb.
I am using Acrobat 11.
The software repeatedly crashes in batch mode (either when compressing the file - ie saving not too lossy, and in a format accessible only to later versions of Acrobat - I think I pick version 9, or when OCR using ClearScan).
The sensible thing then would be to run each document one at a time using some kind of scripting software, but alas it does not seem so easy to control OCR that way on Windows.
Any suggestions?
Is it churlish of me to expect that a product as mature as Acrobat should just work in its basic functionality? From searching around on the web, it seems that I am not the only one having this problem.
Thanks.2000 in one go -- you need a server product rather than a desktop product (aka Acrobat).
Acrobat can accomplish the task on a smaller population of files.
What number? You'd determine that via trial and error. Perhaps 50 at a whack; or more; or less.
Applications in Windows tend to not manage memory/resources so well. Acrobat is no exception.
So you may find it useful to reboot the box periodically.

Mavericks Server keeps editing master.cf
In order to enable SMTP clients to connect via port 587 (the "submission" port), you must manually edit /Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix/master.cf and uncomment the appropriate "submission" lines. Did that, ran "postfix reload," everything's great. But after a restart, the lines are commented out. After a re-edit, and verifying that postfix is working properly, I try "serveradmin stop mail" and then "serveradmin start mail," which results in the lines in master.cf being commented out once again. So, I move the "submission" lines past the "auto-generated section" to get them out of Server Admin's grasp. Nope, it moves them back, comments them out, and duplicates them.
I'm obviously missing the magic incantation to make Mavericks Server retain my submission settings. It's like a raging feminist or something.#

How can I set up Mavericks Server on a Test Mac without affecting the production server
I have Mountain Lion server running as on an xserve as our main server, it has developed a few issues particularly related to Profile Manager and Certificates.
So I was going to use the move to Mavericks as an opportunity to have a fresh start.
So I want to set up Mavericks Server on a mac mini temporarily to test it and configure all the services before moving it to the Xserve as the main server.
My question is what is the best way to do this, obviously I can't use the same IP or hostname as the main server if it is connected to the network, and some services can't be set up without a network connection.
So do I give it a new IP and hostnmame for now and then change it later on, my concern is that changing the hostname might cause issues down the line.
So what is the best way to set up a fresh server in preperation as a drop in replacement of the current server?Ok I got the test server set up fine and cloned it over to a spare partition on the Xserve.
But when I booted into the new partition several things broke.
1st the IP address changed itself despite the fact it is set to Manual, The Alert section of Server.app let me repair this.
Profile Manager no longer worked, the web page just said Profile manager could not be found, was working fine on the test mac
Tried deleting the OD master and resetting Profile Manager but it still didn't work.
DNS needed repairing and restarting
I decided at that point to abandon it and go back to the test mac where everything is still working.
Any tips for overcoming these issues.
I have thought maybe it would be best to turn off all server services before making the clone and then turn them on one at a time once it has been restored to the new partition on the xserve
Also if the certificates that are created when making an OD master were made on the mac mini does that cause a problem when it has been restored to a different machine, should I leave OD off and just set it up when it is in its final place? -
Smooth transition from Mountain Lion Server to Mavericks Server 3.0!!
After an new OS release that are always complaints about installation and configuration problems. First comers to using any new software tool provide valuable feedback we generally hope will help improve the new product. It's how things have worked since the first 6503 Apple II's and 8086 IBM PC's.
I've been using and upgrading PC's since THOSE DINOSAURS! And I can't remember EVER having an OS upgrade go as smoothly as my recent upgrade from Mountain Lion Server (OS X 10.8.5 w. Server 2.2.2) to Mavericks Server 3.0.
I chose to do a clean Mavericks install on a clean partition created on a 1 TB disk that was upgraded into my trusty MacBook. I used the DiskmakerX app to create a Mavericks installation USB drive. When the screen came up with the option to import users, programs & files (took a pass on email) from the Mountain Lion Server partition, I let it run overnight to transpose everything of value into the clean Mavericks installation.
The next morning the only program that wasn't PERFECTLY installed and configured on Mavericks was Server 2.2.2. I deleted it and bought/installed Server 3.0. After Server 3.0's setup ran that only thing I had to do manually was start Postgres! My domain setting, DNS, all my web applications that were set up on Mountain Lion Server were all GOOD TO GO again on Mavericks Server!
I'm disclosing this here, publicly because it was a BIG PAIN to install and deploy all my websites using Mountain Lion's server app. To say the easy transposition into Server 3.0 was an unexpected and pleasant surprise amounts to massive understatement.
Now I'm going to describe two small anomolies I've noticed in either Mavericks or Server 3.0 that other users might want to be on the lookout for. They're not fatal. But they might be "habringers" suggesting underlying problems in either the new OS or the new Server's internals.
The toolbar icon for TimeMachine doesn't "spin" when it backs up. It's not a big deal. But it's convenient to see the circle around the clock whirling so we know when TIme Machine is backing up.
Mavericks Server isn't reporting newly upgraded apps as available under the Updates Tab of the Server's Software Updates subsystem. It might be inconsequential. But with a new OS version it never hurts to let the developers know about the "little things" that don't apparently work.
Kudos to the Maverick's developers for releasing an OS X version that's THIS CLEAN. And hugs to Apple's management for making it a free download upgrade for developers!!!
Full disclosue: I don't now and never have worked for Apple. but I do own a few shares of Apple stock that we purchased many years ago at $14.00 / share. I'm not a big shareholder. But based on my recent seamless upgrades to Mavericks and iIOS 7, I'm a happy one who's not likely to sell any time soon.
If Apple can do for ALL THEIR HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE PRODUCTS what they seem to have done for OS X and iOS, they've got at least a fighting chance to recover from their losses after their stock peaked at about $700.00 /share.
Keep up the good work!

Safari 5.0.6 repeatedly crashes. MacBook Pro 10.5.8 I've emptied cache and reset to no avail. I've tried solutions found in other threads but the more advanced don't seem to apply to me. Help, please.
Not sure what other tests they could run for me. I've pretty much run all the tests I can using Drive Genius and Tech Tool Pro 5. Is there anything they use that I don't know about??
