Dowlnloaded music to itunes does not appear in library

I have downloaded several cds to itunes and they show they are downloading but after that they do not appear in the itunes libraries. If I do a search it shows they exist on the computer hard disk but they cannot be accessed nor apparently moved to an itunes library where they then can upload to an ipod. Even erasing them does not then allow them to be reloaded to itunes libraries.
Thanks for your advise

I had a similar issue.  I realised that the music wasn't on the computer but on the cloud... do you have an iTunes Match account, if so try downloading 1 track to the computer by clicking on the cloud icon in iTunes, then go back into iMovie and see if that track is available.  Hopefully it will be like mine.

  • ITunes Does Not Appear in the List of Default Programs?

My wife is trying to get iTunes to be her default media player, using the instructions found at this link: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3202.
However, when she goes to the list of default programs, following steps 1 and 2 at that link, iTunes does not appear in the list.
    How can we correct this?
Thanks very much in advance for any info.

    Vik-
I was having this same problem. I understood how to change the default program but like yours my iTunes was not in the list so therefore I was unable to set it to default.
This worked for me: (I have Vista)
I checked for updates on my iTunes program and there was an overdue update. I installed and restarted iTunes. Then went to my Default Programs tab and followed the instructions just as described in the support material and after my installation of the newest update my iTunes was now listed in the lineup of available default programs.
I hope this works for you as well!
    Thanks and good luck!

  • External drive contains all music files, but does not show in library?

I have an ecternal that holds all of my music. I recently tried to access all of the music and itunes does not show them. I have tried to change the advanced settings to that drive and folder and i have consolidated the library, but I am pretty sure that is just to put the itunes music there. What I need is to setup my library to pull the files from that drive when I open itunes. I just removed itunes and quicktime, and downloaded the latest version of itunes. Can someone help? We have another computer that works correctly, and the settings are the same....

it might, im not really familiar with XP though... i know that some times windows have the "apply" button when ever you make any changes to settings. If there is one did you select it?? I wonder if you can install itunes onto the external hd but to run it it would have to always be connected to the computer...i dont know..lol

  • Try to open itunes it says "itunes does not appear to be a valid music file

i've uninstalled itunes before and reinstalled it off of the internet and i try to open it and it says "the file "itunes library.itl" does not appear to be a valid music library file. itunes has attempted to recover your music library and renamed this file to itunes library (damaged)

Back up your music and then uninstall it; while the uninstallation process doesn't affect the library, other things can.

  • Purchased music does not appear in library

I just purchased an album but it does not appear in my library. Thinking I screwed something up went back into store to purchase. When I clicked purchase a pop up said you have already purchased this do you want to purchase again, a pop up said you purchased this already do you want to purchase again? I clicked No. Where is my music?

All purchased items will be put in the "iTUnes Music" folder on the PC where you bought them and then added tot he green "Purchased" playlist.
When you add these files to a new PC/iTUnes library tho, there not automaticly added to the purchased playlist. So first search the itunes main music library for purchased items. If not listed search the PC by going to Start>Search in windows select "Files and folders" (Not music) and in the search field put ".M4P" and search the PC

  • How can I sync iPhone 3GS with my Windows 7 PC, when iTunes does not appear on monitor screen when I plug the iPhone into the computer?

How can I ync iPhone 3Gs with my Windows 7 PC, when iTunes does not launch when I connect the iPhone to my computer? Note: My computer crashed and I am reinstalling everything.

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your phone. Only if you back up your phone manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
    Do this:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your device without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the iPhone for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in iTunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • Itunes does not recognise my library

I have my itunes library on a NAS. This morning I have tried to open Itunes and it does not recognise the library - it is asking me either to create a new library or to choose another library. When I try to link it to my existing library, I cannot select the library as it is greyed out.
This very same thing happened a few weeks ago and at that point i decided to rebuild the library. I wondered if anyone knows if they have had a similar experience, or why it is happening?
    thanks

I also am having this problem. It seems Apple has decided what's best for us, and your system will automatically switch the library location back to your hard drive on the MAC if it is unable to find the NAS library or if the NAS is turned off. This causes EXTREME frustration, because when you have TONS of music on your NAS, you then have to re-direct the library location back to the NAS manually, and it takes a LONG time for the MAC to reorganize the library. Plus if you inadvertantly loaded new music into your library after the location was moved back to your hard drive, you'll now have music in two different locations and consolitdating them is another huge time suck.

This service is ONLY available in beta version in the U.S.
"You could try going to the tab "store" then scroll down to "check for available downloads. I hope this helps!"
    This will not work.

  • Adding CD music to Itunes - does not sync to ipod touch 5 gen

Windows 7PC. Easy to add the music from a CD to Itunes.
But, then when I sync itunes to Ipod, music does not export to Ipod.
Must be a setting that is not right?
Have to reload them all again?

"Across the top, there is Summary, Apps, MUSIC- Click on Music"
Yes, those are the sync settings that I referred to in my answer.
"Make sure the (check mark) is sync music, click on entire music library"
This option works fine for small music libraries. When it gets bigger, it won't fit on the iPhone. At that point simply switch to more selective syncing.

  • HT4914 All of my music in Itunes does not show that it was downloaded to ICloud. How can I make sure everything is on the ICloud?

All of my music does not show it was downloaded to ICloud.  How do I download not only purchased but cd music to the ICloud?

You've subscribed to iTunes Match on your computer's iTunes and uploaded your music to it from your computer, as on the HT4914 page that you posted from ? And you've turned on Match on your phone ? Without Match your own music won't go into the cloud and be avilable for streaming/downloading.

  • ITunes does not load my library

Hello I have MBP and I also have a Windows work machine that I built, I copies my itunes library from my MBP to my Windows machine (Windows 7). I recently upgraded my work machine with a 120GB SSD as a boot drive and kept my 1TB 7200RPM HDD as a data drive. When I reinstalled the itunes application and whent into Edit>Preferences>Advanced>F:\Users\[User name]\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media. Then I clicked "Organize itunes media" however once I close the prefence pane the library does not show up. Some more information is that F: is my data drive, and when i navigate through windows exploror to my media library and manualy play a song [by clicking on it in its folder] it opens in itunes and plays just fine, however since I have quite an extensive library and I do not want to to this for every song. Thank you.

    1. What version of Mac OS X is running on the Macbook. iOS is not a computer operating system.
    2. The iTunes app is in the Applications folder on the computer's hard drive.
    3. Double click the app in the Applications folder.
When iTunes is running click Store in the menu bar. This will show a dropdown list. Select what you want from that list.

  • Change library location when iTunes does not manage the library?

There must be an easier way to do this...
I keep all our music files on an external NAS so it can be shared by my Sonos system and also sync via iTunes to various iDevices by my wife and I.  In this situation it is not desirable to have iTunes organize the folders or copy the music to it's own folder.  Using Windows 7 iTunes, I use the File | Add Folder to Library dialog to add music to iTunes, simply pointing this dialog at the NAS folder where the files are stored.  This creates a few problems.
    1) When new music is added to the NAS folder, iTunes doesn't have the brains to re-scan the folder at start-up to see what has changed.  Instead I have to use the File | Add Folder to Library dialog again, choosing the same folder as before.  An annoyance.
    2) When I do the procedure described in #1, ALL new files since the last scan get a check mark and are added to the iDevice sync.  That is also undesirable as I may add lectures or music that my wife doesn't want on her iPhone, or vice-versa.  One is forced to hunt through the entire library looking for items that she or I don't want synced.
    3) I need to change the location of the music file storage.  BIG PROBLEM.  I can't figure out how to move the file location and have iTunes still honor the selected (and non-selected) file choices.
There must be a better way around all of this.  I saw one suggestion to do a global search and replace on the file location in the iTunes Music Library.xml file using a text editor.  Is iTunes really that backward?  Any help appreciated.

Use iTunes Folder Watch or make sure the designated iTunes Media folder is a folder on the NAS and drop new content into <Media Folder>\Automatically Add to iTunes.
Tunes Folder Watch includes an option not to check newly added songs (or rather it actually unchecks them) however checkmarks are a poor organizing tool. Use a combination of one or more regular & smart playlists to determine what should go on the device. That way you can still listen to albums that aren't scheduled to sync.
Exactly what do you want to change? Normally I'd suggest you make your split library portable, however running an iTunes library database from a NAS is generally not a good move. It may be necessary to do so temporarily in order to relocate the media folder, after which the library files can be copied back to an internal drive for performance. Alternatively you can move files around using my script ConsolidateByMoving, assuming you're not also trying to preserve an esoteric folder structure of your own. Or, it there is room to copy, then delete, instead of moving, then you can use the iTunes "consolidate" feature.
Editing the XML and "breaking" the library to force a rebuild from the XML is not the way to go.
