Hi,
Please could someone be so kind as to downconvert some of DarinK's code for me.
Original code here, and llb file attached.
I'm assuming the original is in 2009 by looking at the date posted, unfortunately when opening VIs in a library it either works or doesn't in v8.5 - no error messages with version info.
Many thanks in advance (to both the kind soul who may be able to convert and also to Darin for posting it in the 1st place!)

Downconvering HDV to SD through compressor.

I need to mix HDV will Anamorfic DV so I tryed to go into my captured scrach and located the files. I immport the files into compressor and export as QT movie as anamorfic DV. When I drag it into the time line with the DV the HD Jitters when I slow It down. I tryed switching all the settings for frame control in compressor

I tryed your technique,
I made a new Sequence with settings set to HDV 1080i60
put HDV fotage into it
opened the dv anamorfic sequence
draged the hdv sequence into the dv sequence
But when I try to render it the hdv appears jittery.
THESE JITTERS ONLY HAPPEN WHEN I SLOW DOWN THE HDV IN THE DV SEQUENCE

Flickering when downconv HDV to DV

I had some problems while trying to downconvert HDV material to DV. System is based on macpro with Decklink HDExtreme and Sony HVR1500. Material is captured in ProRes 422, rendered and when printed to tape, trough SDI some flickering occurred, as well as trough fiwi.
Is there a solution for these problems ...

OK. This is a dayly business, for about 9-10 years. Experience? Have some. That drives me crazy. It is the matter that I've got a new pice of equipment and together with my colleagues I made a decision to make a transition to HDV (that can be problematic decision). It worked properly while we were using Sony HD tape HVR15U with FiWi, but recently we purchased HVR1500, as a robust and hi end solution in HDV segment.
New machine - new problems.
So until now we were working with fiwi and downconversion from HDV to DV PAL during capturing, now our strategy is to capture everything in HDV via SDI using Pro Res 422 codec, to work with it (in order to keep quality), and to convert it to DV PAL on exit via SDI (while printing it to tape). And we have flickering problems. Both trough SDI and FiWi.
I think I mention my oppinion about solution recently but I'm not sure and I can not explain that.
I asked a people that are in Sony rep office, they got no idea ... So, .... still searching ...

Hd to sd-dvd: even vhs was better

Commercial dvd:s are sd, aren´t they? Still they look brilliant.
Normal TV-broadcast is sd. It looks good to me.
So: why are my dvd:s worse than my former VHS-tapes?
I invested recently in hd-camcorder. I had an optimistic idea: high-quality original would mean high-quality dvd:s.
Originals are better, I can see..
Downconvering hd to sd by Final Cut express was a disaster, so I had to try FCP X and Compressor4. They brought me nothing but blurry disasters with any settings.
What may have gone wrong? I have read the manuals and downloaded the tutorials.
I have plenty of pc-experience with Adobe Premiere Pro/ Encore with sd-videos. So I think I already knew the basics.

For modern Tv's (not CRT) My current workflow for SD DVD downconversion is:
Export to Quicktime movie, self contained, current project settings - (or keep it as PR422.)
Open the file in MPEG Streamclip.
Export to Quicktime PR422 (NOT DV), max quality, better Downscaling, Deinterlace Video, upper field Dom.
Cropping: 9 on the L & R. This will prevent small black bars from appearing due to the aspect ratio conversion.
Now you basically have a good anamorphic SD 10 bit ProRes file.
I then use Bitvice to create the M2v. Deselect "interlaced input" and select 16x9 display.
I know that many will argue that using BV is not necessary since compressor comes with FCS but I purchased Bitvice several years ago when I was having problems with compressor and Bitvice turned out to be the better compressor at that time. Give Compressor a try instead if you don't want to invest in BV. Especially since I believe that the Mpeg Streamclip downconversion to PR422 is the most important step.

Capturing PAL

Hello Everyone:
I'm trying to capture some video and I can not find the right settings.
I'm using a Sony HVR-M35U and I have Final Cut Pro 5.0.4. The tapes I need to capture are on a MiniDV and it was shot in PAL High Dif.
I did have the setting at one time (lost now) and I was able to view the video but was able to capture about 4 sec. before it got dropped). I have plenty of hard drive space.
Any help would be great.

Go to your Easy Setup window and select *HDV 1080i50* from the popup ... then open Log and Capture and you should be good to go. Make sure that the DOWNCONV setting on the M35U is not enabled.

HDCAM offline capture - what capture preset?

Good Afternoon.
I am new to offline editing and will be working with some HDCAM footage soon.
I am confused as to how I should capture the tapes to work offline. The FCP manual suggests using OfflineRT, but elsewhere I'm being told to use DVCPRO HD.
What are the deciding factors in choosing how to capture HD footage for low-quality offfline editing?

The manual makes the rescaling process from offline to online sound very straightforward. But I suppose this wouldn't be the first time a manual made a task sound easy.

Perfect then...no issues.
Only a few tapes. The finished video will only be about 3 minutes....1 TB RAID, via fiber optic network.
Perfect...you have plenty of space. For both online and offline.
I don't have a HD monitor, only SD. Will I need one for offlining with DVCPRO HD? Not sure if an SD monitor can play downconvered HD somehow.
If you have a capture card (which you need to capture HDCAM as DVCPRO HD) then monitoring on an SD monitor is a snap. All of the capture cards downconvert to SD no problem...so you can use the monitor to at least see your footage.
