Downconverting 1080 material for use in a 720p project

One of the DP's on a current project that has so far been shot entirely at 720p 60 (on the panasonic varicam) wants to shoot some material with the Sony CineAlta 350. First I told him that I didn't want to mix formats and he said the Sony shot 720. When I challeneged him on that, he said he didn't realize we were shooting 720. He's shot 2 days already of stuff for us at 720. Doesn't exactly fill me with confidence. If we shoot with the Sony CineAlta 350, how does the quality compare to the varicam 720 and will the downconvert to 720 cause problems?
Thanks as always.

Whoops, I misread your message earlier. Sorry!

  • Tips for Exporting 1920 X 1080 HD for use in iDVD?

I have a Canon HF20 and noticed that exporting from iMovie '08 using Share >Media Browser or Share > Export Movie limits you to 960 X 540. I used iDVD to create a DVD of the 960 X 540 movies and had good results, but I am wondering if the 960 X 540 ratio is truly HD? And would going to the 1920 X 1080 via Export Using Quicktime make a significant difference? I would like to try using Export Using Quicktime and then using iDVD to burn an HD DVD, but I am wondering if someone can tell me what the settings within the Options should be in terms of the following:
    Compression Type
    Frame Rate
    Compressor Quality
    Encoding
    Data Rate
And then Under Export Size Settings
    Dimensions
    Preserve Aspect Ratio
    Deinterlace Source Video
And any other settings that are going to help me achieve the best results for exporting 1920 X 1080 and burning to DVD via iDVD?

    Hi
    *Movie editors*
    • iMovie HD 6, iM'08 & 09 - might work to do the editing
I prefere when reaching for pro-quality FinalCut but observ that Express only
    handles 25/50 and 29.97/60 fps.
So if You are thinking 1920 x 1080 24 fps - ONLY as far as I know option is
FinalCut Studio Pro. Which can do this !
    *DVD burning programs*
    • NO version of iDVD can handle HD yet - up till iDVD 09
    *Options are*
    • DVD Studio pro in FinalCut Studio Pro bundle (me guessing - but feeling safe)
    • Roxio Toast™ 10 Pro incl Blue-Ray component - Can do this

  • Adding a Loading Animation to a Captivate movie for use in a RoboHelp Project?

    Hello all:
I'm inserting SWFs (built in Captivate 5) into Robohelp topics (using RoboHelp 9, publishing to WebHelp Pro output). These topics hold only the SWFs, so I've published the SWFs to autoplay  when opened.
The problem is this: when I publish my RoboHelp project, my Captivate movies display as image icons (see screenshot). There is no loading animnation or screenshot to indicate that the Captivate movie works. If I wait a few seconds (variable, depending on file size of the SWF), the movie will appear and start to play. I'm concerned that my user will think the file is broken and leave the page.
How can I enable a loading animation (or even a loading image) to show my user that there is, in fact, content on the page when the topic loads? I'd like to keep the auto-play functionality, if possible.

The best option is to break out the words because it gives you the most control. However, if the two words you want to glow are next to each other you can use the Sequence Text behavior.
Select the text and apply Text Animation/Sequence Text to the layer. In the behaviors tab, click on the Add parameter and select Glow/Color. This will create a parameter that you can assign to a character, word, line or custom area.
Now you'll need to add several parameters so repeat the above step adding parameters for Glow/Opacity, Glow/Blur, and Glow/Radius. You might even want to change the color of the font for those two words. If so, add a parameter for Face/Color.
Once you have all the parameters added, change the Traversal parameter to Custom. Change the Select parameter to Custom. Use the Start parameter to determine the beginning of the "glow" area, and the End parameter to fix the end of it. Set the Spread to 0 so there is no spillage of the glow to the words on either side.
Now adjust the color, blur and radius of the glow just as you would if you were adding it to the entire paragraph.

  • Complementary still camera to use with my camcorder for use on my mutimedia projects

Hi, I use a Canon XA10 camcorder for my movie work. The XA10 also has an impressive still photo image capability, but I also need a smaller sized still camera for capturing stills without gathering the attention like camcorders sometimes do. So I need a smaller point-and-shoot for this kind of still work, but with similar capabilities (e.g.. excellent image quality, colour quality, point focus, depth of field, etc) offered by my XA10. What would a suggested choice for a small still camera to complement my great XA10?
    Many thanks!

Did your search find this one:
    http://www.amazon.com/Waterproof-Endoscope-Borescope-Inspection-Camera/product-r eviews/B004ZWFOEQ
I don't have it and am suspicious of how well a $20 inspection camera will function, but it was the very first one I found with a review from a Mac user.
Be sure to read the review written by "Paul Manning"...

  • How to create a BOM for use in purchasing

    Hello Experts
We are a University, and I have been asked to create something similar to a bill of material for using on a purchase order.
We purchase light bulbs from a supplier, but each bulb also incurs a 15p disposal charge and this charge has to be shown as a separate line item on the purchase order.  So we want to create a material that when used pulls through an additional line for the disposal charge.  Also the light bulbs are held in stock and are issued out to departments, therefore the cost of the light bulb and disposal charge must be charged out too.
    Thanks

    HI,
Bills of material are best used when there are components that are relevant. They CAN be used for things like you mention here but I am not sure that it will help your business requirements.
I would suggest that you consider adding the charge as a new pricing condition.
That way the total cost of the item will be the price plus the disposal charge. If you use a separate line on the PO the cost of the disposal will not be connected to the cost of the bulb and so when you issue any they will use the cost without the disposal charge.
SO I would create an info record and enter the details of the price and then add in a surcharge condition type (for the disposal cost).
That ay whenever you order these bulbs from this vendor, the system will propose the cost including the disposal cost.

  • How to activate QTPro and use it to render a Google Tour for use in iMovie

I am a registered owner of QT Pro 7 and can ´t see it on my apps. Why not?
Wanting to use it to render a Google Tour for use in a i Movie project. How to?
    Thanks for your attention.
    Any help gratefully received.

I am a registered owner of QT Pro 7 and can ´t see it on my apps. Why not?
It will be listed as "QuickTime Player.app" in the Applications folder unless you have moved it elsewhere or deleted it.
Wanting to use it to render a Google Tour for use in a i Movie project. How to?
If you mean you want to open the "Google Tour" (and it is some sort of a movie) in the QT Pro Player to convert or pre-edit it for use in your iMovie project, then either open the QT Player, navigate to the file, and open it or, double-click on the file to open it in the QT Pro player.

  • Can I use the same material for C_BOWI_40

    Hi All
A couple of years ago,  I have attended SAP BOW310 and I have the course material for BOW310 as well, my questions is that do I need to obtain latest academy material again or I can use the same one. I can see the following details on my existing material...
    BOW310
    Web Intelligence Report Design I
SAP Business Objects - Business Intelligence
    Participants Handbook
    course Version 96
    course duration 2 Days
    Material Number 50103381
    Owner: Ann Whitehead (I050533)
Now I want to give certification of C_BOWI_40 and I'm wondering that Can I use the same material or not....

Yes. If you use the iPad charger no problems.
If you use the iPhone charger, on iPad it will charge much slower, but it will still charge.

  • How to run MRP for Bulk Material without using LTP

Hi, how can I run MRP for BULK material without using LTP.
    Thanks in advance
    BK

    Hi,
Use trasnsaction code OPPQ and goto BOM Explosion and selection depends on
    Field selected
No dependent requirements are created for informational purposes for bulk material items in the plant selected. This can improve system performance.
    Field not selected
Dependent requirements are created for bulk material items in the plant selected. These dependent requirements are displayed in the planned order for informational purposes only. They are not considered in the net requirements calculation; that is, they are not included in material requirements planning (MRP) and are not displayed in the stock/requirements list

  • Raw material not using for production

    Dears
I have a raw material which will be a line item for different FERT
But some particular FERT i don't want to this raw material is use for costing and planning and consumption
Please tell me how we can map this
I try  in BOM Item status we can select not relevent for costing as well as in material master can be select asP D ,But the problem is that in some FERT i will use this raw material for costing as well as planing ,consumption etc...
    Any hints please...
    Abu Fathima

Bulk material is normally included in the BOM for information purpose. It normally has not impact on planning, costing, consumption. Materials like grease, washers etc are used as bulk. For what you asked in your first post, bulk material concept suits the best.
You need to remember that if you set bulk material indicator in BOM (it is set in BOM only if in certain fert materials you don't want that component material to be planned costed and consumed) or material master ( for all Ferts), it will not get copied to component overview of production (meaning, you cannot see it in production order, but you can see it in BOM).
But you can make it appear in production order by changing the setting Excl. Bulk Material in BOM explosion in OPPQ  and/or OPPR. In this case when you create production order it will appear in the component overview and it will also appear in the order reservation but... movement allowed field will be blank , meaning you cannot post good consumption for the bulk material even if it appears in component overview. So it is not visible in MD04 or MD05.
Another thing to note is there is a third place you can set bulk indicator, you can set any material as bulk in component overview in CO02, it will not be planned, costed or consumed.
You do not control those things with item catagory in BOM
For R&D, the normal procedure is creating an Engineering BOM (Usage 2). But if you want to use production BOM's for R&D also, you need to go to OS20 and for BOM Usage 1 (for Prodution), change + to .(period)  and now go to CS02 and uncheck production relevant for the items you want to not to be considered for production (planning and consumption) and uncheck costing. Then check Engineering/Design Relevant. This should fulfill your need and also looks politically correct because you're just not bulking it out.

  • Self melting or destructive material Apple uses for their earphones

I have an iPod Touch 2nd gen., and I had used a bundled earphone with it.
However, after using it a few months, the plastic rubber part which embraces its speaker became like an eraser. It was worn out like that.
So, I bought an earphone from a 3rd party, and put the bundle earphone in my cabinet which is made of steel. It was kept there for about 1 year, and today I picked it up and my hands got dirty with some sticky things around the earphone. I know that plastic rubbers tend to get melt. That is why any plastic stationery next to erasers get melt and they stick together. I could see that it is from the material which covers the cable from the earphone jack to the ear piece.
Now, may I ask why Apple uses this kind of material for earphones?
There are other kinds of plastics which don't melt or self-deteriorated.
Probably it is good for environment. But while you are using it, if it melt down, isn't it considered a defect? ( The plastic rubber part which covers the speaker is the always the first one which has this problem. )

You are not alone!  Many others have reported this deterioration on the Internet...
Your guess that Apple was attempting to use some sort of "environmentally friendly material", is probably a good assumption.  In doing so they have ironically created headphones which will need to hit the landfill long before their time!
I was just about to place my earbuds in my ears, and thought, "EWW, look at that gummie stuff!"  I thought, "what was that gray wax doing in my ears the last time I wore them."  When I began wiping the pasty stuff off, I realized it was wiping the rubber rim completely away!  So odd how it just started to melt after months of use and no sign of such "reaction" to its' surrounding prior to today.
I keep mine safely zipped up in a small travel pouch within my soft-sided, leather briefcase.  So odd!

  • What is the best image size to import to Elements 7 for use in HD 1920 x 1080 video being output to BluRay?

Steve's book (love it!) suggests something like 1000 x 750 which seems too small for HD.  It would seem that 1920 x 1080 would not require any scaling or adjustment for use in a HD wide screen BluRay project.

The 1000x750 size is based on SD Project and Assets. In your case, you'd want 1920x1080, if that is your output Frame Size. If you will need to pan on any images that are fully zoomed out, you should calculate the amout of pan that you need, and then resize to that, keeping the Frame Sizes as close as you can to your Project.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Possibility of using Confirable material for consumption

    Hello All,
Can any body tell me about the configurable material with class type 300 used as Bom component for different finished material for material consumption.

    Hi Rajasekar,
Normally we have the top most material or the material which is to be sold as the one which has a class type 300 assigned to it. I think, if you need to assign this material as a component in another material, then even that material would have to be a configurable material.
All said and done, if you are using this within another material you would still have to use dependencies for picking this material for consumption which would be based on the class char values that you get for this material when the production order for the parent material is created. You will need to pass values to these characteristics for this to happen and this normally happens through a sales order in such cases.
If you could let us know of a business case or give us an example then maybe we could give some suggestions.
    Regards,
    Rajesh

  • Best settings to use when preparing HD source material for iDVD?

I realize iDVD is effectively abandonware, and that it was never really designed either to run on Lion nor to import high definition content...but nevertheless here I am (somewhat unavoidably) trying to do both and constantly getting the dreaded and mysterious "an error occured during movie encoding" result when I try to burn or export my project to a disc image.
If it matters, I am using a Mac Pro (1,1) with a 5770, running 10.7.5 with 8GB of RAM and oodles of free diskspace. All of my software is fully up to date, including iDVD 7.1.2 build 1158. Several utilities report nothing erroneous with my drives or their filesystems. I have made sure Perian is not installed. I have tried to create and export this DVD using both my primary user account and a clean dummy one I made for testing purposes.
After considerable trial and error experiments, each taking several hours to attempt, I've decided that I'm never going to easily figure out exacty which of my many various source files for this project (holiday videos for family) may be giving iDVD hiccups. Instead, I've decided to take another approach, making all of my content as easy to "spoon feed" to iDVD as possible. Hopefully then I can get this project done.
My question is what, ideally, does iDVD like to be fed?
For starters, I am in the process of transcoding and repackaging all of my content through MPEG Streamclip to be AIC video and uncompressed audio inside MOV containers. In each case I am scaling the video down to be 480 lines tall. Just guessing, but that seems like it would give iDVD the least possible work to "think" about and get confused. Does that sound about right to folks?
Should I be doing something drastic and old school like trying to create DV files? My content is all wide aspect, intended for a 16:9 iDVD project and that seems like it would get tricky (also, this would involve more quality loss than using AIC files).
I am totally open to suggestions here. Just please don't say "dude, use Toast" or something because while I have plenty of other tools that I know would work more easily and reliably, I really want to mimic the holiday discs from previous years that I've created using the same iDVD theme.

I haven't had to wrestle with this problem, but I've followed some of the discussions and here are several ideas and resources which seem reasonable.  As background, have you read about better results from using iMovie6?  Also, as you imply, DV Stream (.dv) was the native format for iDVD.
