Downgrade enterprise edition to Standard Edition One
I downloaded database 11g for solaris intending to install standard edition one.
During the install I did not see any options for the edition, and installed enterprise edition. I then deinstalled enterprise edition options but the database banner is still indicating it is enterprise edition. Is it possible to downgrade to standard edition one ? Where should I have selected the edition during the install ?
The Standard Edition One install is assumed to be the same as the Standard Edition install since it contains the same features. You are on your honour to not enable the RAC capability or to install it on a machine capable of more than 2 CPU sockets. You should have seen the option to install Standard Edition.

Difference between Enterprise Edition and Standard Edition for Oracle RAC
Hi,
In our current setup we have RAC on standard edition and client is now planning to go for Enterprise Edition but not yet decide because of cost.
Is there any difference between Grid Infrastructure 11gR3 Enterprise edition and Standard Edition ?
They told me to first install Enterprise Edition and then will move to Standard Edition if they can't get the EE license so in that case do i have to re-install Grid infrastructure for standard edition?

There is no "Grid Infrastructure 11gR3 Enterprise edition and Standard Edition", is only Grid Infrastructure 11gR2.
About Oracle Clusterware (Grid Infrastructure) licensing.
At least one of the servers in the cluster is licensed for Oracle Database (SE1, SE, or EE)
A cluster is defined to include all the machines that share the same Oracle Cluster Registry (OCR) and Voting Disk.

About Database licensing.
http://www.oracle.com/us/products/database/enterprise-edition/comparisons/index.html
Note : Oracle Real Application Clusters (Oracle RAC), is an option to Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition and included with Oracle Database 11g Standard Edition (on clusters with a maximum of 4 sockets).
If you move to Oracle EE you must purchase a separate licence to use RAC option
About Installation:
Nothing changes on your current setup of Grid Infrastructure 11.2
Just install a new fresh installation of Oracle Database (On current clusterware) chosing E.E during Install. Configure the database/services to start from this new ORACLE HOME. Nothing change on Database all previous backup and features used still unchanged. Using this new Oracle Home new features are enabled to be used by your databases.

Standard Edition vs Standard Edition 1 vs Enterprise Edition
Hello All,
I am using Oracle 11g R2 and I want to know what is the difference technically between Standard Edition, Standard Edition 1 and Enterprise Edition?
is it as below ? anything else?
Standard edition: It is Single Instance database with all it is features ? up to 4 sockets, what is socket ? is it processor ?
Standard edition one: It come with RAC and ASM?
Enterprise edition: RAC + ASM + Dataguard?
any other technical differences.
Please your feedback....

Thank you so much Girish, it is helpful !NB,
The link that Girish Sharma provided to you will be very helpful, but the information in that documentation page does not fully describe the potential performance differences between Standard Edition (or Standard Edition One) and Enterprise Edition. The term potential performance could mean that Standard Edition is either faster or slower than Enterprise Edition for certain operations. A year ago I put together a four part article series that explores some of the potential performance differences between Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition:
Part 1 http://hoopercharles.wordpress.com/2010/11/21/different-performance-from-standard-edition-and-enterprise-edition-1/
The Enterprise Edition of Oracle Database 11.2 supports deferred segment creation, while the Standard Edition does not. Somewhat oddly, this feature may result in different execution plans on the Enterprise Edition and Standard Edition, as may be seen in one of the final comments in this blog article:

Enterprise edition and standard edition
ORACLE 10.2.0.1.0 /REDHAT 5.1 - Enterprise linux 2.6.18
we would like to MIGRATE from enterprise edition to standard edition .
can we use dataguard, partitioning, flashback in standard edition .
santhanam.Hi,
Yes, there are so many options not available with standard edition. like as you said dataguard and flashback database
like
1)online rebuilding/reorganization of tables
2)multiple channels in RMAN
3)only basic materialized view..
4)tuning&diagnostic packs
there are so many..

Hi,
DB version :10.2.0.4 (production database)
OS version :windows 2003 Std edition 64 bit.
how to migrate database from enterprise edition to standard edition.
1)cold backup will be sufficient?
or any way to migrate with best way> will be any impact after migrating.
will be appreciated fro right answers.
Thankshi sb,
Thanks for your response.
1)i did clone database from enterprise edition to standard edition, no invalid objects found ( from production to development)
2) i did restoration using RMAN backupsets from ENterprise edition to standard edition , no invalid objects found (from production to development)
3) i did cold backup from enterprise edition to standard edition , no invalid objects found ( test machine)
i already checked this before, but here mentioned as to use traditional export / import instead of expdp/impdp. ?

Standby db-EE edition and Standard edition
Dear friends,
10g on solaris 10.
What are the differences in standby db when using a enterprise edition and standard edition ?..
Any input will be of great help
KaiNiall and team
I have read your presentation - "You Probably Don't need dataguard" and I tried it out on test database. I setup a manual standby database, archivelog is manually copied to standby db.
Maybe you have an idea on regarding SCN or archivelog that is not present but Oracle is asking/suggestion during recovery procedure..
environment:
2 virtual box - Solaris 10 Virtual Machine host on Windows XP
Oracle 10.2.0 Standard Edition
Primary DB host name: SE
Standby DB host name: SE2
archive dest = /export/home/oracle/archive (same on both machine)
db file = /export/home/oracle/oradata/se , /export/home/oracle/oradata/se2 --> so I used db_file convert parameter in init.ora
Steps:
On the newly created database, create a test table and insert values.
SQL> create table test(a number) tablespace users;
Table created.
SQL> insert into test values(&a);
Enter value for a: 1
old 1: insert into test values(&a)
new 1: insert into test values(1)

new 1: insert into test values(21)

SQL> /
Enter value for a: 31
old 1: insert into test values(&a)
new 1: insert into test values(31)

SQL> /

total 41808
-rw-r----- 1 oracle oinstall 21378048 Feb 24 15:52 1_2_711819574.dbf
$
Again, insert some values to test table,
SQL> insert into test values(&a);
Enter value for a: 33
old 1: insert into test values(&a)
new 1: insert into test values(33)
1 row created.
SQL> /
Enter value for a: 44
old 1: insert into test values(&a)
new 1: insert into test values(44)
1 row created.
SQL> /
Enter value for a: 55
old 1: insert into test values(&a)
new 1: insert into test values(55)
1 row created.
SQL> /
Enter value for a: 11
old 1: insert into test values(&a)
new 1: insert into test values(11)

Question: Why Oracle is asking archivelog that does not exist? I noticed in other exercise that you can use the redo log instead of archive log that does not exist. Is this because when we create the standby control file, the SCN is in sync with redo log.
10. Now, we will copy archive log 3 to STDB,

OK, that means that archive log 5 and archivelog 6 are applied to STBY database.
Question. Why Oracle is asking the arc 7 , is it correct to say that last SCN is based on arc 5 and arc 6. Or is it Oracle behavior to ask the "next" SCN, after the arc 6. when performing recovery? ... that's why we have CANCEL.
Appreciate your response on this..

Downgrade SQL Server Enterprise Edition to Standard Edition
Hi
I came to know in-place edition downgarde from SQL Server Enterprise to SQL Server Standard edition is not possible after seeing couple of questions in the forum, But I find one interesting article in the web which says in-place downgrade is possible and
I tried the same and it works for me, below are the steps
1. Type regedit.msc
2. Got to SQL installation section in registry by default it will be here:
HKLM(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE) -> SOFTWARE -> Microsoft -> Microsoft SQL Server ->
3. Here you have to select the instance you want to downgrade if you have multiple instances.
Expand required instance folder.
MSSQL10_50.MSSQLServer -> Setup
4. Click on ‘Setup’
5. Here You need to change one by one all below entries.
AGTGroup
DigitalProductID
Edition
EditionType
ProductCode
ProductID
SQLGroup
FDHostGroup
Checksum
Take these values from any already installed Standard edition instance and replace here.
Make sure from where you are taking these values have the same features installed and same version and all.
6. Now click on ‘SQL_Engine_Core_Inst’ and change the entries here as well.
ProductCode
But I am not sure how reliable is that option, Could someone let me know can I use that process for downgrade
Regards
calyan
Kalyan AkulaHi,
I would ceratinly not do that If I were you, this would surely leave you in unsupported state. You should ask Microsoft whether tweaking registry and replacing just value can actually change enterprise to standard or whether it is supported or not. I guess
you are just fooling the system.
Its better to uninstall Enterprise edition and Install Standard edition and create database using backup restore or attch detach.
I have not tried what you have mentioned. But thank you for the information.

Hi,
following a purpose change for a database server, I need to downgrade the SQL Server 2012 SP 2 installation from Enterprise to Standard edition.
Does it exist the best procedure to do it in a secure manner with a low impact?
Many thanksPlease note that while you are downgrading by uninstalling and reinstalling and then restoring backup taken from 2012 enterprise to standard , if backup contains data about used enterprise features you would not be able to restore the backup so BE
CAREFUL.
You should , if possible, get a new box install SQL Server standard and try restoring backup if it fails disable enterprise features and again take backup and then you would be able to restore.

Downgrade to SQL 2014 Standard edition after "accidental" install of Enterprise?
Hi,
After installing the umpteenth SQL server on autopilot, i realized that i installed a standard edition with an enterprise ISO.... stupid me, and i got my fair share of laughs from my colleagues (and then some) :)
But i was wondering.... since i have not installed or used any Enterprise features, a downgrade should be possible right?
Being a lazy bastard or time efficient nerd (take your pick), i fired up setup again, and i got to this screen.... and i was stumped.... the downgrade path is valid, the rule passed, so why can't i downgrade?
I know i can re-install to get it to work, but why can't i downgrade?
A downgrade also comes in handy sometimes when customers want to downsize a server from Enterprise OLTP to Standard OLTP, or when some stupid yahoo like me installed Enterprise for OLTP DEV / TEST, where Standard is more than enough.
Any ideas anyone?
Theo Ekelmans
The NetherlandsThe codebase for the engine is the same; there are no Std or Ent specific service packs.
So why not make it possible....?
This question you should ask to Micrsoft team( I am not aware why they made restriction) . It would be premature for you to comment that 'code base for Stand and Ent are same'. Its not an open source whoes code you can see and can make changes( Like Unix
and Linux )
I am sure if you ask this question to MS they wont give any Geeky reply to you they woudl just say its how we work and have designed.

About Standard Edition and Standard Edition one
Good day people.
I 'm not sure if this question has been asked, excuse me if I haven't noticed it.
Where I currently work are planning the implementation of an software running over Oracle DataBase, but they are unsure for which DB version to choose.
1. What are the main differences between Oracle Standard Edition and Oracle Standard Edition one? (besides that the second doesn't support RAC or clusters.)
2. I am still unsure if license for processors are counted as processors or cores, for instance 1 processor with 4 cores (means 1 processor? or 4 processors or a factor multiply)?
3. Is it true that EVERY license I buy MUST have 1 first year as support?
And 4. Is Windows Server 2008 supported? (64bits)
Gracias, a lot.Hi;
Firstly for license its better to contact wiht your local oracle sale representative which you can get exact answer.

Differences between 8i enterprise and 8i standard edition
I have seen numerous discussions on whether 8i enterprise or 8i standard should be used in my division, can anyone point me to a source where I can get a comparision of the features between these two.
nullI have installed Oracle 10 XE and it just seems so easy to work with. There's a GUI for everything. It does not have SQL Plus(that I've seen), but there's an area to type your commands into inside the program that helps administrator the Database. I could not find any documents on 9.2 so Im reading documents on Orcale 10 that I have downloaded from this site.
I am wanting to practice creating, removing, resizing tablespaces, creating databases, and other DBA things. I also want to have triggers functions and procedures working on it too. I wrote some in college against Oracle 8i. -
Personal edition vs standard edition
I am new to oracle and am planning on installing oracle (personal or standard) onto a standalone desktop in my cube for test and develop(and learn) on.
My company is currently using Enterprise on sperate database servers that eventually I will probably get access to as admin for database yet to designed.
So my question is why not just use standard edition for my test and development on instead of personal edit.? Since it is cheaper for standard.
Also what is min desktop necessary for a small test and devel database in either of the editions? I will be using NT 4.0.the Oracle software that you have ,Personal Edition or otherwise has documentation about the features available in each version of the Server, enterprise, standard and Personal.
That should give you an idea whihc version is best for ur desktop.
Also you will find the system requrements for the installation .That should help. -
