I'm a software developer and support eningeer. New releases may have bugs, I accept that as a reality.
But, every reasonable software company allows users to downgrade from a brittle upgrade especially within the frst few weeks and especially when the customers are unhappy.
So, basically, it's as though Apple is not paying attention to those of us whos devices are un-usable or buggy to use. It also seems as though it might be relatively trivial to enable revert to the older version (trivial meaning maybe a few days work). Even if it were a bit more effort the payback in good-will and reputation would be sizable.
A suggestion for Apple: since you want careful control over IOS then if a user wants to revert to 5.1.1 perhaps they could fill out a web form with all their iTunes info and the reason they wish to downgrade and you could enable the install for just those who request it?

Are the new maps complete far from it but they are based on crowd technology -IF you have information for your locality share it and it will be added to the servers.
Yes its 1.0 software but it WILL get better as the data base builds.
Further Apple were paying license fees to competing Google that they don't now.
The GPS, and raw data from TomTom that powers the new Maps are actually quite accurate.
If you want to see street view you still can by adding a link/home icon after visiting

Turn by turn is NEW and free to use functionality within Maps and that was NOT in Google Maps.
Prior to you had to spend £50+ on a decent (Still do really) TBT app from Garmin or Tom Tom.
In the apps store there are 100s of Mapping apps covering a multitude of countries and regional transportation systems around the world.
GPS and walking maps are also available.
You have lost nothing really other than Street View natively.
However imo I do think flyover, and similar technologies seen competing Bing and even Google Maps looks good but is actually functionally useless.

You should be fine then. Do it before they stop signing. Lots of people have posted on here that their downgrade to 7.1.2 has been successful and their iPads are working like they should.

I am an owner of Apple ipad mini 16 gb and currently using ios 7. But my ipad lags very much with ios 7 so want to downgrade to ios 6 at any cost.
Also , my device is in warranty if any case it is necessary to downgrade.

Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears

Apple usually lets you downgrade from the latest iOS version to a easier one in a few days after the latest iOS comes out. I'm not sure whether the deadline has passed. But I think maybe you can have a try.
1. Backup your iPhone 5 via iTunes and iCloud.
2. Install the latest iTunes and connect your iPhone 5 to computer via a USB cable.
3. After detected, click your iPhone 5 in the left sidebar to show the control panel on the right.
4. Under the Summary tab, click Restore iPhone... . Confirm it in the pop-up dialog.
5. Click Restore an Update to downgrade from iOS 8 to iOS 7.
If you really want to downgrade, you need to have a hurry.

There has never been a legit way to downgrade.
It will always restore to the latest available software.

There is no way to downgrade. Apple probably doesn't allow it because then people would downgrade a lot. People rarely like the new update when they download it. Also, Apple doesn't support past iOS things…So if someone is on iOS 3, Apple wouldn't support fixing problems or whatever (if I remember right).
So, sadly there is no way to downgrade. Sorry!

A handful of people scream about every update that is ever put out. It is the nature of technology and blame. Perhaps try addressing your issue instead of blaming yet another update. you would never had of installed 8.2 if you took these forums as any true representation of iOS users.
