Downgrade from Windows 8.1 enterprise to windows 7 Ultimate or Professional

I have installed windows 8.1 and am not happy neither with its performance or it's UI; I have my own copy of Windows 7 Ultimate can I downgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 7 Ultimate? I need to keep my applications and files.

Hi,
Like Carey said, you need to format the whole drive and do a clean install. The most important is don't forget do a backup in an external hard drive. You will be need to restore it after roll back to Windows 7.

  • How to Activate Windows 8.1 Enterprise with Windows 8 Enterprise MAK?

I bumped into this problem when being assigned to deal with the activation of Windows 8.1 Enterprise.
There are around 6 notebooks in my team, and they seldom connect to corporation network so are essentially isolated from our KMS server. Therefore we used to install Windows 8 Enterprise and activate these Windows 8's with an Enterprise MAK. However, These
Windows 8 are going to be upgraded to Windows 8.1 Enterprise but my team is not given the MAK of Windows 8.1 Enterprise. Hence I am going to activate the Windows 8.1 Enterprise with my existing Windows 8 Enterprise MAK.
To the best of my knowledge, there are 3 ways to upgrade Windows 8 to Windows 8.1:
Install Windows 8.1 with a Windows 8.1 DVD.
Install Windows 8 first, and upgrade to 8.1 through an Upgrade ISO.
Install Windows 8 first, and upgrade to 8.1 through Windows Marketplace.
I tried method 1 and 2 and found the Windows 8 MAK does not apply to Windows 8.1, in which slmgr -ipk would fail. Method 3 requires a full installation of all available Windows Updates first so I did not try it yet. I wonder if there is any possibility to
activate the Windows 8.1 Enterprise with a Windows 8 Enterprise MAK. Any reply would be appreciated.
By the way, my corporation do purchase the Software Assurance. I cannot get the 8.1 MAK due to management issue.

Seems like it is illegal issue if management is against upgrade ;-)
I do not think that this is a right way for Enterprise edition. New install is tyhe only option. There are some workaround on Internet, but these are not according to official upgrade path.
Every multilicense program has its program administrator that could either help or can elevate problem to MS support services.

  • Getting Group Policies to work on Windows 8.1 Enterprise and Windows 2012R2

Just have a question about applying GPO's to Windows 8.1 Enterprise PC's. We have Windows server 2008 R2 DC's in our environment, so if we want to use the new policy definitions for Windows 8.1 Enterprise, we have to download them and put them in the Central
store on the Windows 2008 R2 DC server, will this be enough ? Or we have to Extend the schema of our Active directory to Windows 2012 R2 first by adding 2012 R2 DC to our Active Directory.
In otherwords what are the requirements for appying the new Windows 8.1 policy definitions in our Windows 2008 R2 environment ?

    > have to download them and put them in the Central store on the Windows

    For ADM templates: Yes.
    > Or we have to Extend the schema
For "some" settings, yes. Bitlocker Key storage, eg.

    Define "policy definitions" :)

  • Can 1 instance of Windows 8.1 ENTERPRISE host multiple Remote Desktop connections?

I am shopping for the components for building a machine with fair, high-performance hardware. I have Windows 8.1 Professional. I wanted to know if either Windows 8.1 Professional or Windows 8.1 Enterprise can support multiple remote connections
from users outside the local network. For example, my brother is based in San Diego, CA and has an underpowered laptop. Is there any way to make a remote connection over that much distance, from San Diego to Northern Virginia, from a RDP client running Windows
8.1 Professional to a RDP "server" Windows 8.1 Professional/Enterprise machine, and run a modern, single- or multiplayer- game over smoothly that connection? At the very least, is it possible to run common
apps (e.g. Microsoft Office 2013 IE 11, Adobe Acrobat XI) smoothly on a Windows 8.1 Pro RDP client connected to a Windows 8.1 RDP "server" located 2250+ miles away?
Would upgrading my installation from Professional to Enterprise improve the responsiveness and display quality for my remote users?
I know Windows Server R2 2012 has features specific for handling remote connections, but I am trying to keep a Windows 8.1 user experience. Still, if anyone can show some evidence that Windows Server 2012 R2 Remote Desktop Services (RDS)  improves display
and responsiveness over long-distances for remote (RDS) connections, then I will shop for Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard instead. The huge drawback of Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard CALs is the enormous cost to enable 3-5
remote connections for family, non-commercial use.
Has anyone attempted to host long-distance remote access, non-commercially, for 3-5 connections? Has it worked well? What, in general, is required?
    T. Webster

    Hi,
It depends on the quality of the network connection to run the software smoothly throuth RDP.  And I don't think the quality would be better if you upgrade to Windows 8.1 Enterprise.
Windows 8.1 allow only one session of RDP, the Remote Desktop Server in Windows other than the Windows Server edition has a limitation to allow only one concurrent user per session by default, i.e. if someone remotely connects to the computer over RDP then
whoever was logged in at that moment will be automatically logged off, even if that user is physically present at the computer. This is by design.
Regarding more information about RDP, please take a look at the following articles:

The 9926.0.150119-1648.FBL_AWESOME1501_CLIENTENTERPRISE_VOL_X64FRE_EN-US.ISO downloaded from Microsoft's server is showing the wrong version when I import it into MDT 2013.

I've redownloaded it twice since first noticing and still see the same version.

  • Downgrade windows 8 enterprise to windows 7 enterprise under volume license and steps for installing windows 7 enterprise.

How to downgrade from windows 8 enterprise to windows 7 enterprise under volume license? and what are the steps for installing windows 7 enterprise?

The link provided by v-yamliu works good.
Steps for installing Windows 7 Enterprise can differ based on the method of installation.
Windows 7 Enterprise, being an enterprise product, is usually installed on PCs count of 20 and above. Also, organisations usually modify the standard installation image to suit the organisation's needs and policies. In doing so, they define the way the Enterprise
edition can be installed. They can be ZTI (Zero Touch Installation) or LTI (Lite Touch Installation). The following links will be helpful in this case:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd919178(v=ws.10).aspx
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd919179(v=ws.10).aspx
If the above case is not true and only a standard image is being used, you can perform clean install as mentioned by v-yamliu. The following link will be helpful:

  • Windows XP Pro SP2 cd-rom after downgrading from Vista

    Hi everybody.
I successfully downgraded my T61p from Vista to XP Pro SP2 using the downgrade cd-roms send by Lenovo.
Everything seems to work well. I downloaded all drivers. No problem.
But I recently installed a rather old software that I frequently used on my old A31p. This software (a Microsoft program !) has automatically modified some files from XP Pro without any autorization.
Once it was done, I was asked by the system to insert the original Windows XP Pro SP2 cd-rom to repair this modification.
Of course, the (Vista to XP) downgrade cd-rom set was not recognized by the Thinkpad as the original XP set.
    An original cd-rom which I finally don't have !
I tried with an original XP Pro SP2 cd-rom bought a few years ago for my A31p. Unsuccessful.
Where could I find the XP Pro SP2 cd-rom corresponding to the downgraded system ?
Thanks for your help and suggestions.
    Regards.

    Thinkpad A31p - T42p - T61p - TP Tablet

    James,
    thanks for your answer.
But I wrote on my first post "I tried with an original XP Pro SP2 cd-rom bought a few years ago for my A31p. Unsuccessful."
Thus, I don't see any difference between an original Microsoft Windows XP2 Pro SP2 version cd-rom and one created by burning a downloaded version of the OS. An original was not recognized, what would a copy do ?
If possible, it might be probably better to create an XP Pro SP2 cd-rom from the "Rescue and Recovery" files which were reinstalled when downgrading from Vista to XP. (I hate the word "downgrade" : while I was doing it, I had the feeling I was upgrading my Thinkpad !)
I have been using for several years (and still use) an A31p (Since 2002, 8 to 10 hours a day) and a T42p. IMHO, the T61p is the same category of "great" notebooks. Thinkpads are really the best notebooks I have ever used. I noted no significant difference between IBM and Lenovo Thinkpads.

  • How Do I Downgrade From Windows Vista To XP On A 3000 N100 Series Notebook?

Hello. Here is the problem. I have Windows Vista Pre-loaded on my 3000 N100 Notebook, absolutely dislike this operating system and want to erase and load Windows XP. From reading other forum messages I have learned several things.
    1) The install disk On Windows XP Home & Professional will not recognize Sata Hard Drives, when it reaches the point of loading where it looks for the hard drive it "BOMBS OUT" with error messages.
    Several options are open .............
    1) Log into the BIOS, locate the SATA option, and change to compatibility mode.
    2) Have a USB external floppy connected with a Sata Driver on it and when installing Windows XP press the "F6" button when Windows asks for any external drivers you want to load.
Here is the problem with the 3000 N100 Notebook series..........
1)There is "NO SATA OPTION" in the BIOS of the 3000 N100 series notebooks to choose. In this model Lenovo stripped the BIOS down to the bare essentials.......and I Do Mean.... "BARE". The latest BIOS upgrade also has no Sata option. Why they did not offer at least this choice of downgrading to XP is beyond me. LENOVO..... I'm not impressed with your notebook.  As usual.... Microsoft has all vendors jumping to their tune..... Nothing but "VISTA" at this point in time. What if you hate it??????
    2) I have hunted all over the Lenovo Web Site for a "SATA DRIVER" that would work with a 3000 N100 Notebook, no such critter exists.  LENOVO..... Couldn't you have at least offered this????  I'M NOT IMPRESSED.
Has anyone been able to downgrade to Windows XP successfully on a 3000 N100 Series Notebook??? How Did You Do It?? Has Anyone Located A "SATA DRIVER" That Works???  IF So, Please Explain To Me Step-By-Step How I Can Get Rid of Vista and Load XP.
    Help........Help.......Help........Help......Help!!!!!!!!!!!
    Regards

Hello Himleung. Thank you for answering this message. Where did you find a "Sata Hard Drive Driver" that works?? Perhaps you could pass that along to this message forum in case someone else that has a 3000 N100 (may also work with the N200 series) Notebook wants to downgrade from Vista to Windows XP.
This is what baffles me to no end. The Lenovo web site has every driver you need to load Windows XP on the notebook.....**EXCEPT**..... the Sata HD Driver......**OR**...... the ability in BIOS to change to "compatability mode".  Duh!!!..... whats wrong with this story. I have never seen such a weak BIOS as the one in the 3000 N100. If I had known this I probably would have gone to another brand. They should have advertised this notebook as...... "Non-Geek Compatible".
Not knowing exactly how you could forward the driver to me I did the following....... I created a new Web email location that you could use to send the driver as an email attachment. The address is....... [email protected] This address will exist just long enough to obtain the driver..... and then......"Hasta-La-Vista" baby......end of story......as I do not want to be bombarded with ads, trash, or perhaps a virus of some sort..... although.....I'm SURE we have GREAT PEOPLE on this message center.
I'm not familiar with the "NLITE" program you mentioned. Again....perhaps you could mention where I can get it and what I need to do to set the program up to run the driver.
    Thanks again, Himleung.

  • How to downgrade easily from windows 8.1 OEM to Windows 7 Pro

    Hi,
I've tried to get used to Windows 8.1 (7 months), but I did not find a solution to get the classic view (3D look instead of the extra flat look) nor to play spider solitaire in a windowed mode, it always opens in full screen (desktop PC 2560x1440). If I
get the game in a small windows, it's a "crab view" = lateral.
I've created an account and when I went online the 1st time, Microsoft made it a MS account and I don't have my own account anymore. I don't feel that I own the PC, it doesn't feel like my personal PC. It feels like a public internet PC. I have no pleasure
    at all using it.
I feel sad because I have been saving money for so long to buy a powerful PC with a nice large screen and it is so disappointing because of Windows 8.1 OEM. I have a license for Windows 7 Pro but if install it and it does not work (I can't find all the drivers),
the company I bought it from warns me I will lose my warranty.
It seems incredible to me that I have now 1st to pay Windows 8.1 Pro (I want to run away from it) in order to get downgrade rights. I feel miserable and helpless.
In the past I have bought a PC every time there was a new O/S (Windows 3.1, 95, 98, Millennium, Windows 2000, XP, XP Pro, Vista Home, Windows 7 Home.
Please any help is appreciated. I would like to be able to downgrade automatically, like when you click the "Windows update item in Start Menu"  that everything happens automatically, but instead of upgrading I would like to downgrade.
    Caroline

You can only do a clean install of Windows 7 to "downgrade" from Windows 8.1.  There is no other path.
And you must ensure your hardware has support for Windows 7.  Many of the platforms with Windows 8 do not have the necessary drivers to support the installation.
Follow Milos Puchta's advise and contact the manufacturer/vendor of your system for all assistance in this endeavor.

The "downgrade" will not be free. You will have to buy Windows7 or have a real licensed copy available.

    Hi:
Looking at the hardware specs for your model you should be able to use all of the W7 x64 drivers and software from the HP Probook 450 G2 on your model except the BIOS and firmware files.
Your model uses the Intel HD graphics driver and the Realtek RTL8188EE wireless card driver.

  • How to downgrade from windows 8.1 to windows 7 professional on Envy 700-329

I am fed up with the problems resulting from Windows 8.1, eg program incompatibility, Slow/no response in browsers, especially IE 11, forced to use touch-screen style interface on conventional monitor and so on and so on. I have a Windows 7 Professional 64 bit licence for my Dell Vostro laptop. Can I use it on my HP Envy 700-329 desktop to replace Windows 8.1?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Good morning.
    You're very welcome.
Only Pro versions of Windows are eligible for downgrade rights to the older versions of windows.
And the downgrade has to be performed by the PC manufacturer.
In other words, your PC would have a W8.1 Pro license, but W7 Pro would be preinstalled on it at the time of manufacture.
So you cannot purchase a downgrade license per se.
You will have to purchase a full retail or full OEM version of Windows 7 64 bit.
The difference between retail and OEM is that the retail version can be transferred to another PC as many times as you want provided it is used on one PC at a time, and as you read, the OEM version cannot.
The retail version of Windows cost about double the OEM version of Windows from what I recall.
