Downgrade HPC cluster from Windows Server 2012 to 2008 R2

Hi,
We have a customer that have bought a system with HPC Windows Server 2012 and need to downgrade to HPC Windows Server 2008 R2.
The customer thas gotten a Windows Server 2012 OEM DVD, so my question is how can we install the system with Windows Server 2008 R2, what are the practical steps like, where to find software, licenses keys etc...
Thanks for reply.

  • Is it possible to uninstall IE 11 from Windows Server 2012 R2 and replace it with the latest version of IE 10?

Is it possible to uninstall IE 11 from Windows Server 2012 R2 and replace it with the latest version of IE 10? We have a remote desktop farm setup with 2012 R2 servers and we are publishing some web links that only work with IE10. As a result, we need to
downgrade the remote desktop servers to IE10. I have a feeling that this isn't possible, but if I could get a definitive answer, I would greatly appreciate it, thank you!

  • Upgrading Cluster To Windows Server 2012 R2

My previous thread was closed so here is a new one.
I have a 4 Hyper-V host failover cluster (R720s) running Windows Server 2012 Datacenter, which is connected to a SAN where the CSVs are stored. I have a 5th R720 server on which I have installed Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter from scratch. I have installed
the Hyper-V and Failover Cluster roles on it as well. It is can see the SAN.
    Questions:
    1. To setup the Hyper-V virtual switch on the 5th server, should I join it to the existing Server 2012 Hyper-V failover cluster and create the virtual switch then? Or should I create the virtual switch on the 5th server, with the same settings as the virtual
switch in the Hyper-V failover cluster, before adding it to the failover cluster?
    2. Can I add the 5th server to the existing Hyper-V cluster, migrate virtual machines from Hyper-V host #1 to the 5th server, install Virtual Guest Services on the virtual machines which have been migrated to the 5th server, drain roles from Hyper-V host
#1 and perform an in-place upgrade on Hyper-V host #1, once the in-place upgrade is complete, fail the roles back to Hyper-V host #1.
    Please advise.
    Thanks,

Just and FYI, it is now called a witness disk.  Yes, it does provide a quorum function from time to time, but with the new dynamic quorum model it is not always used as a quorum.
There are multiple ways to move the VMs from 2012 to 2012 R2.  Here are three.  A little searching of TechNet and you will most likely find some others.
One of the new capabilities is to live migrate the VM from 2012 to 2012 R2.  This involves storage migration across the network, so if you have lots of VMs and not a lot of bandwidth, this can be painful.  But it is the only way to ensure no downtime
of a VM, so it could be used selectively.
If you can take some downtime on the VMs, you can use something like VeeamZip -
    http://www.veeam.com/virtual-machine-backup-solution-free.html
Another method that requires some downtime is to use a step-by-step guide that Microsoft published for moving from 2008 R2 cluster to a 2012 cluster.  Even though you are going 2012 to 2012 R2, it works exactly the same.

  • Configure Hyper V Failover Cluster on Window Server 2012 R2

I have 3 node cluster of hyper v and configured csv all machine working fine but after run backup machines get paused, so i have removed backup agent, during starting one virtual machine csv volume get un accessible and all machine pertain to that csv get
    offline. subjected are the errors.
Cluster Shared Volume 'Volume2' ('Volume2') is no longer accessible from this cluster node because of error '(1460)'. Please troubleshoot this node's connectivity to the storage device and network connectivity.
Cluster Shared Volume 'Volume2' ('Volume2') has entered a paused state because of '(c0000015)'. All I/O will temporarily be queued until a path to the volume is reestablished.
after troubleshooting i found a patch for the related issue but its not working for window server 2012 R2,
Windows8-RT-KB2838669-x64: its not running so kindly assist how to get this fix.
    Talha Faraz Malik

    Hi TFMalik,
"To avoid CSV failovers, you may have to make additional changes to the computer after you install the hotfix. For example, you may be experiencing the issue described in the "Symptoms" section because of the lack of hardware support
for Offloaded Data Transfer (ODX). This causes delays when the operating system queries for hardware support during I/O requests.
In this situation, disable ODX by changing the FilterSupportedFeaturesMode value for the storage device that does not support ODX to
    1 "

  • Unable to add network printers from Windows Server 2012 R2 to client running Windows 7 Pro x64

New Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard in the environment.  Added print services to it and added five HP printers to it and shared them.  Also deployed the printers via group policy.
Clients are running Windows 7 Pro x64.  The group policy fails to install the printers (error 0x00000002).  We get the same error when trying to manually add the printer from the client side.
From Event Viewer: Group Policy was unable to add per computer connection <<printer share>>. Error code 0x2. This can occur if the name of the printer connection is incorrect, or if the print spooler cannot contact the print server.
    Any ideas on troubleshooting this?
    Thanks.
    -John

    John,
You might try playing with the HP universal driver, that might help you.  Try installing a new shared printer on the server using the universal print driver, then try and connect to it to see if it is any better.
Check these GPO settings to ensure local machines can install the drivers.
    1. Configure the following two Group Policy settings:
Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\System\Driver Installation\Allow non-administrators to install drivers for these devices setup classesEnabled
    2. Device class GUID of printers: {4d36e979-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}

  • Unable to Connect to SQL 2000 Instance from Windows Server 2012 environment

We have a windows server (TEST) 2012 environment , where our test SQL Server 2012 instance is hosted.
We have a different (DEV) Server (windows 2000)  where a SQL Server 2000 instance is present.
When I RDP to our Windows Server 2012 box, I cannot connect to the SQL 2000 server instance from SQL Management Studio. (whereas I can connect to
the same server from my local machine which has windows 7 and SQL 2012 installed).
This is the error i see -
"A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - The specified network name
is no longer available.) (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)"
When run from SQL Agent Service from TEST (A Job which tries to connect to that SQL 2000 instance to read some data using SSIS) , we get the following
    error -
An OLE DB record is available.  Source: "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server"  Hresult: 0x80004005  Description: "[DBNETLIB][ConnectionRead
(recv()).]General network error. Check your network documentation.".
The same SSIS package runs successfully from my local machine.
Please, could someone advice how to resolve this situation?

    Thanks Olaf.
Its just that we have legacy systems here in our company, who, for some reason haven't upgraded their older infrastructure, whereas they have set up new Windows 2012/SQL 2012 environments for the newer sql instances where they want to transition to !
Not sure what the solution is honestly. It is affecting our timelines now. The infrastructure team needs to take a decision now, as to what to do.
I do have to add, we were able to connect to these "older" servers from our Windows 7 client machines which have SQL 2012 - both from SQL management studio & SSIS (using OLE-DB Provider for SQL Server).

  • Using and synchronizing applications from Windows Server 2012 on local desktop

I have Visual Studio 2010 on my remote server.  How do I use Visual Studio  software from the server on my local laptop and sync it with the server?

Of course remote desktop assumes that the system is also properly licensed for Remote Desktop Connections.
A little clarification on the OP's request might also be in order.
"How do I use Visual Studio  software from the server on my local laptop and sync it with the server?"
If you want to run VS on the server, using something like remote desktop services, it runs there and the data stays there.  Obviously you can redirect where VS will store data so that it stores data on your laptop, but then there is nothing to
automatically synchronize it.  Maybe a more complete explanation of your issue would help.

  • Upgrade from Windows Server 2003 to 2008

    Hi Experts,
We are currently running SAP BPC v 7.0 for Microsoft in a Windows Server 2003 environment. This is not a production application right now as we are doing discovery work in SAP BPC 7.0. For another project, we need to upgrade to windows server 2008.
We are trying to figure out if the SAP BPC will still work after the upgrade. I know SAP BPC is compatible with Server 2008, but do we need to start of a fresh installation or the upgrade will work. We are trying to figure out if we should plan some time to reinstall SAP BPC and re-do the work we have done in BPC once it has been upgraded.
    Thanks a lot!
    Martin

At this point, BPC 7.0 for Microsoft is not certified for Windows 2008.  So, if you prepare and execute the upgrade to the server OS, support may not assist if you find any issues.  We plan to be certified on Windows 2008 with the next release of 7.5 for BPC.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to sideload a windows 8 app from Windows server 2012

    Hi
I am developing a windows 8 app for my organization and we want to sideload form the server without installing on each client PC. The Client's PC are in a specific Organization Unit. Can Anybody assist me in getting this done please.

you can sideload by using powershell, (e.g. Add-AppxPackage) which you can script, is that what you mean?

You can use any method you like, to deploy/execute these powershell scripts, or there are other solutions like ConfigMgr or Intune (in case you might already have those available)

  • Windows Server 2012 Cluster Validation Failing On List All Potential Cluster Disks

I'm in the process of setting up a new cluster using Windows Server 2012 with a view to migrate from our existing 2008 R2 cluster.  I am having problems validating the storage and the wizard keeps failing on the List All Potential Cluster Disks
test (which causes all the other storage tests to be cancelled).
    I'm getting the following error:
Failed while verifying removal of any Persistent Reservation on physical disk 19ba99a4 at node RC-HYPERV-3.riddlesdown.local.
When I look in validation report, disk 19ba99a4 is the management LUN (Access LUN 31 as termed by the storage software).
Looking on my 2008 R2 cluster this doesn't appear in Disk Management.
Any ideas how I can get rid of it or the error that it is causing?
