Downgrade iTunes 10 library to iTunes 9

Hi All!
I'm trying to set up an 800mHz G4 iMac as an iTunes server for the household. It's running iTunes 9 (Can't upgrade to iTunes 10 with Tiger OS). The household's music collection is currently on a machine running iTunes 10. (And that machine is needed for other duty.)
After moving the music files from one machine to the other, I attempted importing the iTunes Music Library.xml file from iTunes 10 into iTunes 9. It imported, and all the playlist names are there, but none of them have any tracks listed. No tracks under "Music" as well. I have attempted using preferences to point iTunes 9 to the music files, but that hasn't helped.
I'd be grateful for any suggestions.
Thanks,
Greg

If you have the old installer, you can uninstall 10.5 and reinstall 10.4.  You then need to revert your ITunes library. Details here : https://discussions.apple.com/message/16357855#16357855

  • Issues With Library.itl After Downgrading iTunes 12 to 11.4

Unfortunately, iTunes 12 has become completely useless.
So I just downgraded iTunes from the most recent version back to 11.4 using AppZapper and Pacifist.  Everything worked like a charm and took only 10 minutes.
The one thing I was already predicting, though, is that, upon opening, iTunes 11 won't accept my iTunes Library.itl as it was created by a newer version.
The thing is, I haven't made a backup via Time Machine, or any backup for that matter.  Is there any other way to link my recent Library.itl to iTunes 11?
The way I see it, the only thing I'd be able to keep is the actual media -- everything else would be gone, including all structures, settings, and stats.  And -- much worse -- my playlists . . .
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks, Chris.
Yeah, I know where to find those files and how to rename and replace them
But will the other info be safe (see my previous posts)?
Also, my most recent library would be iTunes Library 2014-10-17.  How do I know if that'll work.  As far as I'm informed, iTunes 12 was released on October 16, 2014.  Does that mean it could already be a iTunes 12 backup, or does it mean it's the latest iTunes 11 backup available before updating to 12?
EDIT:  Sorry, now I understand what you meant by "Whenever you update to a new version of iTunes,, iTunes copies the current iTunes library.itl into the Previous iTunes Libraries folder inside the iTunes folder and adds the date to that file."
The only question that remains:  What happens to the files that have been modified between 2014-10-17 and today?  What will go missing, and what will stay?  Again, it's not the stats I'm worried about.
Thanks again for your help, guys.  It's very much appreciated.

  • How do i downgrade itunes 10.4 to itunes 10.3 in windows vista

How do I downgrade itunes 10.4 to 10.3

I just managed to downgrade from ITunes 10.5 to 10.4 w/o using Time Machine.  Typically I have Time Machine backups, but I just downgraded from OS X Lion too, and was still trying to get my MacBook fine tuned again before doing a fresh backup again.
So it was a long shot, but here's what I tried and it worked perfect.  It also might appear to be difficult, but as long as you can cut/paste and know a little about file folders, this won't take more than 5 minutes.
    1. I removed the entire itunes folder from the "Music" folder and copied it to the desktop.
    (Macintosh HD/users/<yourname>/Music/iTunes)
    2. I downloaded iTunes 10.4 and did a fresh install.  I restarted the application, which recreated the iTunes folder (and files) back in the "Music" folder.  Then quit the application completely.
    3. I went to the original iTunes folder that I copied to the desktop, and deleted the most recent file from the iTunes library.  For the purpose of this illustration...I had several, but my latest was "iTunes Library 2011-08-16.itl".
    (Desktop/iTunes/Previous iTunes Libraries/iTunes Library 2011-08-16.itl)
    4. Now cut/paste the "original" file from desktop back into the iTunes folder you've just recreated.  When it prompts you to overwrite the existing files, reply "YES" to all, and let the folder finish.
    5. Your Done!  Now open iTunes again...all your files and playlists, will be there.
The reason I downgraded, was the new iTunes 10.5, wouldn't collapse on my MacBook so I could see all playlists and detailed song info.  It basically opened up "full screen", but only allowed me to scroll through song files, but not playlists, etc.
I hope this helps somebody...I was really struggling because of the size of my music library (24,000+), and really didn't want to begin with a fresh install, and recreating my playlists from scratch.
    Good Luck!

  • How to downgrade iTunes 12 to 11.4?

I recently upgraded iTunes to 12.0.1 and want to downgrade back to 11.4. I run the 11.4 installer and it says "A newer version of iTunes is already installed." So I use the terminal to delete it (sudo rm -rf /Applications/iTunes.app/) and also trash the preferences as well as Library/Caches/com.apple.iTunes. Now I'm able to run the 11.4 installer, but when I launch iTunes, I get an error: "A required iTunes component is not installed. Please reinstall iTunes (-42401)." Any ideas on how I can successfully downgrade iTunes to 11.4?
It needs to be 11.4 since I share my iTunes library between two macs via file sharing, and one of them is an older mac which is unable to upgrade to version 12.
    Any help appreciated! Thanks

    1) Open Terminal and run:
    sudo rm -rf /Applications/iTunes.app
This will delete the iTunes 12 application.
    2) If your Music Library is in its default place, also in the terminal:
      open ~/Music/iTunes
    3) Using Time Machine restore the following files:
    Album Artwork   <– Folder
    iTunes Library
    iTunes Library Extras.itdb
    iTunes Library Genius.itdb
    iTunes Library.xml
    iTunes Library.itl
    iTunes Music Library.xml
    Previous iTunes Libraries  <– Folder
No need to replace your iTunes Music Folder. You may not need to replace all these files but it can’t hurt.
    4) Back in the terminal:
    open /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks
Use Time Machine again to restore the following files:
    AirTrafficHost.framework
    CoreADI.framework
    CoreFP.framework
    DeviceLink.framework
    iTunesAccess.framework
    MobileDevice.framework
    5) Using Time Machine restore iTunes 11.4

  • Downgrade iTunes because of wrong OSX version?

I downloaded the new iTunes version, however it won't let me open it because it says that I don't have the most recent OSX version. Should I downgrade iTunes? Should I upgrade my OSX?
Please help, I DON'T want to lose my library!!

Ok, so I am new to the mac's, and I have tried all the strategies you all have listed and I am still having trouble with my itunes. Currently I have no itunes because I read I had to delete itunes 7 from my computer inorder to down grade. The down graded to itunes 6.0.5 and after downloading it I couldn;t install anything because they were all grayed out. I also tried installing OSX 10.4.10 but my computer tells me it is uncapable of running that software on my computer. I currently have a 10.4.6. So I am all ears to any advice. And even if it involves me in downgrading, I just feel like I lost my music I paid for, and I will not be able to use itunes again on my computer.

  • I am unable to update/restore my iPhone on my MacBook after attempting to downgrade iTunes 10 to iTunes 9.2

I am unable to update/restore my iPhone on my MacBook after attempting to downgrade iTunes 10 to iTunes 9.2. I am currently running iTunes 10 on my MacBook right now because it was my only option to get iTunes back on my MacBook. Everything is fine with syncing my device but the only problem I keep encountering is the restoring and updating options. When I restore my device it tells me that It could not be restored at this time. When I update it, iTunes tells me that it cannot complete the current build. I know for a fact I am missing some files that were deleted when I attempted the downgrade. Anybody know what files I am currently missing that is causing this?

  • How will downgrading itunes affect my iphone?

I am totally frustrated with itunes at this point. I loved having my artwork in the sidebar in song view mode (including the little arrows to see multiple artworks).
Every version since then seems to downgrade this feature. I would like to go back to when that worked the way that I liked it. I believe the last version to have this (With the little arrows) was 10.4.1? Can anyone confirm that?
I have been able to find lots of info on how to downgrade itunes, but my concern is how will this affect my iphone 4. Will I still be able to update my phone? Or will itunes want me to update itunes before I can update my phone?
    Thank you for your help,
    Eric

There was nothing in ios6 that I really cared about.
What ios would I have to downgrade to to make it sync with 10.4?
Is it possible to downgrade my ios on my iphone?
If I downgrade both itunes and ios, and don't do any new updates, everything will work happily together?

  • How can to downgrade iTune 11 to version 10 ? thanks

Hello and happy new year to all of you !

Many thanks to all Apple fans.

MattiP is right, I tested it, and the problem seems to occur only if there are special characters used in the filename (which was no problem with the previous version of the Adobe Reader for WP7); unfortunately, having special characters in the filename is very likely in German ...

  • Downgrading Itunes software?

I know this sounds strange but I wonder if someone can tell me the process for downgrading Itunes software, if needed.  I pulled out an old Mac, with the hopes that I could Home share Itunes and my kids could watch tv shows on my old laptop.  It's a 2002-3 model so all the software is very out of date.  I upgraded the Itunes to 9.1 (the latest version my OS could support) but then when I went to open it, it told me my Quicktime needed 7.5.5. Unfortunately, 7.5.5 and even 7.3 requires a later version of OS than I have (I have OS 10.4.1).  Now I can't even open Itunes at all on the old laptop b/c I keep getting a popup window saying that I need the Quicktime 7.5.5 in order for Itunes to open.  So I'm worse off then I started!
Anyway to get around this or just downgrade the Itunes back to a version that can work with my Quicktime 7.2?
    Thanks!
    Bernice

OS 10.4 went all the way up to 10.4.11 which I was using with iTunes 9.2 less than a year ago. If you use the Combo Update to upgrade the OS from 10.4.1 to 10.4.11 then you will probably find you can get QT 7.

You cant. You can only update to the latest version which is iOS6.

  • 'Downgrade' iTunes - Library does not open with lower version

I am working with Vector Works 11.5 which requires Quicktime 6.5.1 (it also works with 7.4.3.1). I upgraded my iTunes to the latest version and Vector Works couldn't deal with it. I had to remove Quicktime and reinstall an older version to comply with my Vector Works.
The new version of iTunes obviously couldn't work with the older Quicktime and I installed an older iTunes as well.
My problem now is that I am not able to open iTunes, because the file iTunes Library.itl, which I assume to be the music library can not be read. Is there a way to 'downgrade' the whole setup or to reset the library? I've tried older libraries in the music folder, but that did not solve the problem.
    Thanks for any help,
    jessie

Rename the current library, open iTunes, and drag the folder containing the old library into the open iTunes window. This will not preserve ratings, playcounts, and other metadata.

  • How do I downgrade iTunes 10.5 to 10.4?

I installed the iTunes 10.5 Beta and I'd like to downgrade it to 10.4. Is it the same way as if I was downgrading it to 10.3?

If you have the old installer, you can uninstall 10.5 and reinstall 10.4.  You then need to revert your ITunes library. Details here : https://discussions.apple.com/message/16357855#16357855

  • Downgrade iTunes!!!!! Help!!!!!

I'm trying to downgrade my itunes from the latest software to 8.0.2 because it works better and when I uninstalled iTunes and installed 8.0.2 it said itunes library is used by a different version of iTunes. All I want to do is downgrade my itunes. This is driving me mad. Help me!!! Is there any way to down grade it?!?!?!?

You current library will not work with an earlier version of iTunes.
You can re build your library from your xml library file using the method here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451
Or you can look for a back up library in the previous iTunes libraries folder. These backups are made when you upgrade, and the name includes the date.
See this link about something slightly different. It tells you how to use a backup library:

  • Downgrading iTunes 8.2 to iTunes 8.0.2

    Hi all
for reasons clear to iPhone users, i would like to uninstall 8.2 because it is not good for 'customising' my iPhone.
before i follow Apple's instructions of uninstalling, i would like to ask if my previous iTunes library (which i presume includes all my playlists, ratings for individal songs, and artwork) under iTunes 8.2 will be compatible with an older 8.0.2.
don't want to lose all that precious info.

You might want to check my post to see if you followed all those steps:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1956731&tstart=0
I downgraded from 8.1, but assume it would be the same to revert from 8.2.
    Hope that helps.
