Downgrade me from Windows 8 to 7

How can I go from Windows 8 that came on my new PC, back to Windows 7 /64bit. Win 7 install doesn't like the GPT partitions, and since the computer didn't even come with any OS disk, there is no partitioning software. (There are no utilities on
the Win 7 disk either.) I have a Gateway DX4870 w/ 1TB HD w/ factory installed OS.
Windows 8 sucks big time. If I wanted a tablet I would have just bought one! I cant even print a web page or mail, and the Explorer has no file search. Where is the functionality? Why do I have to go to the Start screen to switch apps. There are
no tabs to switch between them. The browser is a nightmare. Microsoft spent decades improving the look and feel of Windows and all of a sudden it's half of what it was. Do I have to buy a Pro version to get past basic?

Hi ,
You can use Disk Management to partition and format a hard disk in Windows 7 and Windows 8.
To open the Disk-Management,
Start RUN with keys [Win-Logo]+[R] and type diskmgmt.msc and press Enter to open the Disk-Management.
In Windows 8, you can press the key combination [Win-Logo]+[X] simply click on Disk Management. And open directly Disk Management.

    Hi:
You have to load the applicable SATA AHCI or RAID driver either by slipstreaming them, or by using the F6 key and installing the driver from a USB floppy disk drive.
See this guide for how to slipstream the drivers.  Read the intel section and then follow the instructions in the downloadable document to slipstream all of the drivers.

  • How to downgrade easily from windows 8.1 OEM to Windows 7 Pro

    Hi,
I've tried to get used to Windows 8.1 (7 months), but I did not find a solution to get the classic view (3D look instead of the extra flat look) nor to play spider solitaire in a windowed mode, it always opens in full screen (desktop PC 2560x1440). If I
get the game in a small windows, it's a "crab view" = lateral.
I've created an account and when I went online the 1st time, Microsoft made it a MS account and I don't have my own account anymore. I don't feel that I own the PC, it doesn't feel like my personal PC. It feels like a public internet PC. I have no pleasure
    at all using it.
I feel sad because I have been saving money for so long to buy a powerful PC with a nice large screen and it is so disappointing because of Windows 8.1 OEM. I have a license for Windows 7 Pro but if install it and it does not work (I can't find all the drivers),
the company I bought it from warns me I will lose my warranty.
It seems incredible to me that I have now 1st to pay Windows 8.1 Pro (I want to run away from it) in order to get downgrade rights. I feel miserable and helpless.
In the past I have bought a PC every time there was a new O/S (Windows 3.1, 95, 98, Millennium, Windows 2000, XP, XP Pro, Vista Home, Windows 7 Home.
Please any help is appreciated. I would like to be able to downgrade automatically, like when you click the "Windows update item in Start Menu"  that everything happens automatically, but instead of upgrading I would like to downgrade.
    Caroline

You can only do a clean install of Windows 7 to "downgrade" from Windows 8.1.  There is no other path.
And you must ensure your hardware has support for Windows 7.  Many of the platforms with Windows 8 do not have the necessary drivers to support the installation.
Follow Milos Puchta's advise and contact the manufacturer/vendor of your system for all assistance in this endeavor.

  • Want to downgrade laptop from Windows 8.1 to Windows 7 - Not seeing Windows 7 drivers on HP website

Hello, I purchased a HP Envy TouchSmart 17 Model: j153cl Notebook that came pre-installed with  Windows 8.  I can't stand Windows 8, it just doesn't work for me.  I want to install Windows 7, which I have purched a legal version of.  Before I install it though, I want to make sure that there are drivers available for my Labtop (make sure the laptop will run windows 7).  When I search the model on HP website, it only shows drivers for Windows 8.  Is my computer compatible with Windows 7?  If so, where can I get the drivers?  Please help!!!  Thank you in advance.

    Hi:
HP is aware of the drivers missing from the support pages issue and is working on resolving it.
It is affecting hundreds of notebook models.
Since I don't work for HP, I do not know when the sites will be operational again.
This has happened once before, so hopefully they learned from past experience how to troubleshoot the problem.
With the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States, that has delayed things, I'm sure.
We are on the third day of this problem.
Once they fix the problem, there should be W7 x64 drivers listed.
If for some reason there aren't, then you can use the ones from the 17t-j100.

  • Lenovo E73z Downgrade option from Windows 8 Professional 64 Bit to Windows 7 Professional 32 Bit

    Hi,
I'm planning to buy Lenovo E73z Non-touch i7-4770s All in One desktop, Is there an option to downgrade Windows 8 prof 64 bit to Windows 7 prof 32 bit because our software only runs or compatible in Windows 7 32 bit.
As a general option for Microsoft downgrade option is it possible?
Is it compatible to do such option in the hardware?
    Thanks in advance!

You should be able to get Win 7 Pro 32, as it is listed here:

  • Windows 7 Professional downgrade from Windows 8.1 Pro OEM

    Hi,
I purchased new computers for a small business with Windows 8.1 Pro OEM licenses and disks. I was intending to install windows 7 Pro using downgrade rights but when I enter the product key that came with Windows 8.1 it gives me an error with "Invalid
    Character".
How can I activate Windows 7 Pro using downgrade rights from Windows 8.1 Pro?
    Thank you.
    André Gomes

You cannot use a Windows 8.1 product key with a Windows 7 installation.  You must "activate by phone" and hold on to speak with a Microsoft Activation
Specialist and explain your desire to invoke your downgrade rights to Windows 7.  The Microsoft Activation Specialist will then review your request and if approved, will issue you an activation code for Windows 7.

  • Downgrading from windows 8.1 single language to windows 8

Hi, i want to downgrade my laptop pavilion g6 2231tx from windows 8.1 single language to windows 8 which came in default with my laptop.
My question: since my lappy came pre installed with the windows 8 (64bit) and then got upgraded. So if i refresh my pc via the recovery partition on my HDD will it revert back to win 8 or do i have to use the recovery discs i made and will i lose my entire data on C:
Reason :  i am facing a lot of issues with my laptop recently specially while gaming i never faced any issues with gaming earlier when my lappy was running win 8 no lag or drop in fps as such but since i upgraded (which was against my will as microsoft one fine day decided to throw win 8.1 down on my face) . Some how was able to get the amd radeon switchable graphics back up and running but it seems it has no practical use over there  as such
apart from that my computer  has degraded in performance since i have upgraded i tried to use win 8.1 since the past 1 year just coz it had all my programming IDE loaded and removing it would just be all the more hassel but even those applications have started responding really slow now most just take up hell  lot of load time.
    my system specs are :
2.4 GHz Intel Core i3-3110M processor
    4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 RAM
AMD Radeon HD 7670M (1 GB DDR3 dedicated)
Looking forward to your early replies. thanks in advance

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.
I am not going to try and talk you out of doing this -- you are the administrator.
You might be in for a rough ride regardless of which path you take back to Windows 8.
Standard Refresh removes your installed programs and your installed Browsers -- the security programs -- everything that is not "bare bones" -- and that assumes that it will work.
READ please and know what you are trying to do:
HP PCs - Refresh Your PC to Resolve Problems (Windows8) - c03538721
The Recovery Partition may -- or may not -- still be in working order.  The Upgrade to Windows 8.1 may have destroyed the Recovery Manager.
Before you do ANYTHING, please back up all your data to an external drive -- back up your most critical data to more than one place, perhaps to a USB drive or to Cloud >> somewhere so you can get to it.
What if your home made Recovery Disks do not work?
You might call HP and see if you can purchase a Recovery Set.  Because you have a working computer right now, you might make the call BEFORE you take apart your Operating System.

    Hello,
Is that possible to downgrade from factory installed windows 8.1 to windows 7 on HP 15-R063TU  Notebook?
Please guide for neccesary steps at earliest.
    Regards
    Arvind Singh

Why 32 bit? I do not recommend that but here is a past thread dealing with your exact question:

The "downgrade" will not be free. You will have to buy Windows7 or have a real licensed copy available.

  • Downgrade from Windows 8.1 enterprise to windows 7 Ultimate or Professional

I have installed windows 8.1 and am not happy neither with its performance or it's UI; I have my own copy of Windows 7 Ultimate can I downgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 7 Ultimate? I need to keep my applications and files.

    Hi,
Like Carey said, you need to format the whole drive and do a clean install. The most important is don't forget do a backup in an external hard drive. You will be need to restore it after roll back to Windows 7.

I see others on this forum have had similar problems going back to windows 7. I tried some of their driver solutions that were posted, but to no avail. Can I get some help? Maybe some links to where I can find drivers to help me? Windows update cannot find and automatically install replacement drivers.

    Hi:
Looking at the hardware specs for your model you should be able to use all of the W7 x64 drivers and software from the HP Probook 450 G2 on your model except the BIOS and firmware files.
Your model uses the Intel HD graphics driver and the Realtek RTL8188EE wireless card driver.

  • How to downgrade from windows 8.1 to windows 7 professional on Envy 700-329

I am fed up with the problems resulting from Windows 8.1, eg program incompatibility, Slow/no response in browsers, especially IE 11, forced to use touch-screen style interface on conventional monitor and so on and so on. I have a Windows 7 Professional 64 bit licence for my Dell Vostro laptop. Can I use it on my HP Envy 700-329 desktop to replace Windows 8.1?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Good morning.
    You're very welcome.
Only Pro versions of Windows are eligible for downgrade rights to the older versions of windows.
And the downgrade has to be performed by the PC manufacturer.
In other words, your PC would have a W8.1 Pro license, but W7 Pro would be preinstalled on it at the time of manufacture.
So you cannot purchase a downgrade license per se.
You will have to purchase a full retail or full OEM version of Windows 7 64 bit.
The difference between retail and OEM is that the retail version can be transferred to another PC as many times as you want provided it is used on one PC at a time, and as you read, the OEM version cannot.
The retail version of Windows cost about double the OEM version of Windows from what I recall.

  • How to downgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 7 g580

    hi

many thanks and sorry for my English

    Hi Rick,
I am in a similiar predicament where I had just bought Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 with Windows8 only (not Win8 Pro).
My current apps does not run on Win8.
As such, I need to take the path to downgrade to Windows 7 Pro.
What are my options to do this?
I'm thinking of taking the route of
(step1) Purchase the Upgrade Pack from Windows 8 to Windows 8 Pro
(step2) Then, downgrade my Windows 8 Pro to Windows 7 Pro.
    Will this work ?
I heard conflicting messages that  there is no downgrade rights to Win7 Pro, from an upgrade Win 8 Pro.
I am really confused now. Help!!!
