Downgrade Oracle 9i Enterprise to Standard

Hi all.
Is there an easy way to downgrade an installed Oracle 9i Enterprise database server to a standard edition without doing a full re-installation?
Best Regards
Jacques Riget

Hi,
i had your issue a few years ago and what I can tell you is that there are ways to upgrade but not many to downgrade. The only one I know is to do an export using exp utitlity on 9i. Maybe you could combine this with a SW version upgrade since 9i is not the latest version.
Cheers,

  • Oracle 10g Enterprise vs Standard Edition performance

For a database hosted on a single machine is there any performance advantage in using Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition over Standard Edition? For our application we do not require data warehousing or OLAP, just the ability to store and query a large amount of XML as CLOBs or using sturctured mapping.
I have looked at online documentation but have not been able to find the answer. Any advice would be appreciated.

Probably not. Unless there is some EE feature you can leverage, there probably won't be a performance difference.

  • Oracle 10g enterprise versus standard

    Hi There!
    Please a question:
I need to explain a customer why it's better to install the oracle 10g enterprise edition than the standard.
I founded on metalink Doc ID: Note:271886.1: the different features BUT I founded that both includes the
Oracle Enterprise Manager Console!!!! So that's contradict the fact that you can have the inteligent tunning pack or others feature.
Is the Oracle Enterprise Manager Console the same in both versions?
Which added value I get on installing the enterprise edition instead of the standard?
    MANY THANKS!!!!!, Marcelo.

    Zaffer Khan,
thanks for your prompt answer but it does not really help me :(. I have no doubt about the power of EE and EM Grid Control in large enterprises, but when the customer wants to start small and grow as his business grows is hard to convince him about all the nice features of EE. That is why we are starting with SE1 and in the future the customer might upgrade if necesary.
Right now with all the international environment (see the credit crunch) everybody is much more careful in spending their IT budgets so the licensing costs are taken very seriously in consideration. In the same time they want to fully follow the rules and to use only the software they are paying for. But unfortunately I did not find anywhere a description of the functionalities in EM DBConsole that can be used in SE & SE1.
In the same time I do not understand why the functionalities that are not licensed are not disabled / hidden. It would make everybody's life much simpler :).
    Thanks,

Could any body briefly explain what is the difference between the
    1. Enterprise edition and the 2. standard Edition of
Oracle 8i Datatbase for WinNT / 2000. ( These are two different downloads or Installation CD's )
What features are missing in Standard edition compared to the Enterprise edition?
( It is definitly is cheaper, from licensing / cost point of view ).
    Thanks for your time

If you closely read the license under which developers can
download this for free, you'll see that the answer is "no".
It's not a trial version, it's a license allowing developers free
    access for development purposes only.
You should always closely read all license agreements which apply
to software you download, whether for free or for money.

  • Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition user license in Standard Edition

    Hi,
If I purchase Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition license (user or processor), and somehow if I decedided to downgrade the server from Enterprise Edition to Standard Edition, is these license still valid to apply to the Standard Edition server??
    Thanks

I'm sure Oracle would have no objection to you using a less expensive version, but you may want to run that question by your Oracle sales rep to see if there is a notification requirement.
Whether there would be an opportunity to get some level of refund, though, would be a question for your Oracle sales rep. I would tend to doubt it but you never know.

  • Upgrading from Oracle 10G standard edition to Oracle 10G enterprise edition

    Hi
I want to upgrade from Oracle 10G standard edition to Oracle 10G enterprise edition. Is there any script provided by oracle which I can run on existing Oracle 10G standard edition to upgrade to enterprise edition after completing the licensing formalities or do I need to install Oracle 10g Enterprise edition from scratch and then migrate my data.
    Ramanbir S

You will not need to perform any data migration to upgrade to EE. The diffetence between standard en enerprise editions are the features offered. When you upgrade you can use the same set of files you used to install standard edition and just add the enterprise edition features you want to use in the 'Custom' section of the Universal Installer.

    Check http://www.oracle.com/database/product_editions.html
This is about 10g but mostly should be the same as in 9i with at least two exceptions known for me RAC is not possible for 9i SE and 9i had not XE at all.

  • Oracle 9i Enterprise - Oracle 9i Standard

그러므로 exp/imp에서
    transport tablespace

    ====================================================
    PURPOSE
    Introduction:
    <Note:112591.1>
Enterprise
Standard Edition
업그레이드 하기 CATALOG.SQL과 CATPROC.SQL (또는 EE Version 소프트웨어의
    Actions:
Export/Import 를 이용하는 것이다.
Enterprise

  • Downgrade SQL Server Enterprise Edition to Standard Edition

    Hi
I came to know in-place edition downgarde from SQL Server Enterprise to SQL Server Standard edition is not possible after seeing couple of questions in the forum, But I find one interesting article in the web which says in-place downgrade is possible and
I tried the same and it works for me, below are the steps
    1.    Type regedit.msc
    2.    Got to SQL installation section in registry by default it will be here:
     HKLM(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE) -> SOFTWARE -> Microsoft -> Microsoft SQL Server ->
    3.    Here you have to select the instance you want to downgrade if you have multiple instances.
    Expand required instance folder.
    MSSQL10_50.MSSQLServer -> Setup
    4.    Click on ‘Setup’
    5.    Here You need to change one by one all below entries.
    AGTGroup
    DigitalProductID
    Edition
    EditionType
    ProductCode
    ProductID
    SQLGroup
    FDHostGroup
    Checksum
Take these values from any already installed Standard edition instance and replace here.
Make sure from where you are taking these values have the same features installed and same version and all.
    6.    Now click on ‘SQL_Engine_Core_Inst’ and change the entries here as well.
             ProductCode
But I am not sure how reliable is that option, Could someone let me know can I use that process for downgrade

    Hi,
I would ceratinly not do that If I were you, this would surely leave you in unsupported state. You should ask Microsoft whether tweaking registry and replacing just value can actually change enterprise to standard or whether it is supported or not. I guess
you are just fooling the system.
Its better to uninstall Enterprise edition and Install Standard edition and create database using backup restore or attch detach.
I have not tried what you have mentioned. But thank you for the information.

  • SQL server 2008 R2 downgrade from Enterprise to standard edition

    Hello,
we are going to downgrade SQL server 2008R2 from enterprise to standard for a server whose databases are not using any of the enterprise features.
Per the link http://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertip/3079/downgrade-from-sql-server-enterprise-edition-to-standard-edition/ we had made a plan to do so.
However, we are not sure of two points:
    1) Do we need to import the SSIS packages, i.e. after downgrade would all the packages vanish? Therefore what should be done for the Integeration services on this instance?
    2) second would be related to reports configured. Would all the settings in reporting configuration also change? If yes what should be done while downgrading (removing the reporting services as well)
    Thanks, please suggest.

    Hello,
I you copy the old system databases incl ReportServer Db as described in the article then you have all SSIS packages & reports available as before.

ORACLE SERVER
    =====================================================================
    Problem Description
Oracle8i Standard Edition
    Solution Description:
    Oracle8i Standard Edition
    a) Standby 데이터베이스 상에서 수동 또는 스크립트에 의한 복구가 필요하다.
    b) 저장되어진 Redo Log들을 Standby 사이트로 옮기기 위한 방법이 필요하다.
    Explanation:
    ===========

    Hi Ontrack,
    first of all read note
740897 - Info about the Oracle license scope; required Oracle options
Running any SAP system on a non enterprise edition is not supported.
Since SAP did not deliver the standard edition to you, somebody has installed the SAP system wrong in your corp...
Because of the above, SAP does not provide a supported upgrade way, except a heterogenous system copy. Basically we did not test this scenario, because we don't support it.
Anyhow, Oracle has a way for this:
Metalink: How to Upgrade from Standard to Enterprise Edition
    Doc ID:      Note:117048.1
The core part of this note is:
The following steps need to be taken to convert your SE database to an EE:
        1. Backup the database
        2. De-install the SE software
        3. Install the EE software
        4. If you have an existing database, point your ORACLE_SID to this
           pre-existing database
        5. Startup the database
        6. Run the "catalog.sql" and "catproc.sql" scripts, as usual.
    Well, pretty easy isn't it?

  • How can i install Oracle 9i Enterprise version on Linux 7.2

    Hi friends,
I m not able to install the oracle 9i enterprise DBA on RedHat linux 7.2. Can anybody guide me how to do it in correct way. Cuz i feel that i m not doing in right way and there is someother way of doing it ?
    Thanks in advance
    Manmeet Sidhu

I know this isn't a RedHat admin forum...but one of the most important things is an up2date set of system packages. It is my opinion that the RedHat Network Updater (up2date) should always be used to keep your kernel, bin-utils, glibc, gcc, etc files up2date...they fix issues all the time that help in relinking (making) files, as well as fixing security problems and increasing platform security.
That said, the version of bin-utils, glibc, kernel and gcc that I have installed Oracle 9i release 1 on RedHat 7.2 is:
    kernel-2.4.9-31
    binutils-2.11.90.0.8-12
    glibc-2.2.4-24
    gcc-2.96-98
Here is the documentation I followed:
    http://www.puschitz.com/InstallingOracle9i.html
and here is a good discussion thread on an installation:
    http://www.orafaq.com/msgboard/unix/messages/821.htm
I did not (and do not) recommend downgrading the bin-utils ... just update the $ORACLE_HOME/bin/genclntsh file and relink...
Also, if installing Oracle 9i Release 2 on RedHat 7.3, see this thread concerning the ins_ctx.mk error

I suspect root cause is with Java not Oracle.
Oracle RDBMS does NOT speak any "protocol" except SQL natively.
