Downgrade to iTunes 6

I upgraded to iTunes 7 without realizing that I need to have OS X 10.3+. I still only have 10.2.8. I would have suspected that the install program would have detected that I had an incompatable OS and wouldn't have installed the update. I guess the ASSume saying got me. Now I can't use iTunes.
I deleted the iTunes app and downloaded iTunes 6.0.5 install. Unfortunately the installer is not able to pass the "Installation Type" step. The dialog box shows iTunes, iPodDriver MacOSX 10.2.8, and iTunes Phone Drivers as "Disabled" with 0 bytes and the "Install" button is grayed out.
What can I do? I need to be able to add songs, etc. to my iPod and my partners iPod Nano.
HELP, PLEASE!

  • How do I downgrade my itunes to 10.3

My 1st generation ipod does not accept applications and I cannot access my itunes on it either.  I found out I need to upgrade it to iOs 3.1.1 software and I found the link to do this.  Unfortunately it comes up with an error code of 8288 and won't do anything further.
We did some digging and found out we need to 'downgrade' our iTunes to 10.3 and then it will let us 'upgrade' our ipod to the iOs 3.1.1
How do we downgrade the itunes to 10.3
    Please help!!

I too had the same issue. This is how I resolved it http://www.parkhi.net/2011/12/error-8288-ipod-touch-upgrade-ios-31.html

  • Downgrading to iTunes 7

    Lesson for iTunes 7 owners
Downgraded to iTunes 7 today, after two years of fine service and enjoyment. The Itunes 7 installation resulted in my PC losing access to its CD/DVD-RW drive. OK, I restored that easily enough. But even worse, iTunes 7 itself would not load (unknown error 200), so I could not even burn the songs I had bought just an hour before on version 6. And reverting to version 6 was not an option (all solutions were rejected by my system). Finally, I decided to cancel my account, or at least tried to remove my credit card from the account. No way to do that, either, because an incorrect postal code on the Apple system could not be corrected (there was not enough space in the form to fill the entire code, too many digits!). I have emailed Apple Store to get them to cancel my account.
Too bad, because I really liked iTunes, and had no problems until now. But I have a rule: when an application, through no fault of mine, interferes with my PC, it gets the axe.
    pc Windows XP

You need to obtain a copy of the last iTunes 7 installer. If you have it saved, that's great otherwise there are downloads available although I think Apple only has a Mac version. You can get it from File Hippo, but the mods sometime edit out the link:
    http://filehippo.com/download_itunes/
Then you uninstall iTunes 8 and install iTunes 7. It still will not work as the library is incompatible. But iTunes saved a copy of your version 7 library when you upgraded in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder. Just copy the file with the date of the update in it into the iTunes folder (it will be called iTunes Library yyyy-mm-dd.itl and rename it iTunes Library.itl.
Edit: I should add that you drag the original iTunes library.itl out of the iTunes folder to your desktop before trying to rename your backup library.
Or, if the upgrade was a while ago, you can rebuild your library from the xml file as in this article:

  • How do I downgrade to iTunes 11.4?

So, I made the mistake of updating to iOS 8 the other day, and when I went to sync my iPhone today, discovered that iTunes 11.1.3 (Mountain Lion, 10.8.5) won't let me sync my music because I'm running iOS 8.  I DO NOT LIKE ITUNES 12.  It's a visual nightmare.  I feel completely trapped now because I can't sync any new music or movies to my phone without updating iTunes, and I like it fine the way it is.
What are my options? Updating to iTunes 12 just to be able to use my phone, and then somehow downgrading to iTunes 11.4? Is that even possible? I figure at this point it's impossible to downgrade from iOS 8 to iOS 7.  I like iOS 8, just not iTunes 12.
I'm not sure if I'm the only one who missed the little fine print that said you need iTunes 11.4 or later.  Any articles, links, suggestions?

Follow this linkHow to downgrade iTunes 12 to 11.4? Be sure to remove iTune 12 library first before you install...I am going through that right now and wish I had done that.
iTune is a sick app even since 11.4 like changing the Internet radio when it feels and it got worst with 12...auto launching and if playing the window keeps popping out Dock when minimized.

  • Downgrade from iTunes 7 to 6 error message

I downgraded from iTunes 7 to 6 because of that blasted +gapless playback+. On initial launch of 6 I get the license agreement, agree to it, and the get an error message that reads "The iTunes Music Library cannot be found or created. The default location for this file is in the "iTunes" folder in the "Music" folder."
The iTunes Music Library folder has 2 files .DS_Store and Library.xml
Any help would be appreciated as this downgrade has and upgrade has been a mess.
    Thanks in advance

Is this an Apple approved procedure?
I thought that once an upgrade was in it was impossible to remove it entirely due to all the little DRM things (and who know what else?)
A lot of people (especially the ones that just listen to music) think iTunes just keeps getting worse and worse.

  • I just downgraded from iTunes 11 back to itunes 10.7.5. My iTunes is now working from one of the Previous Music Librabies. How can I make that previous library my current library? Also, I can't empty iTunes 11 frome the trash. Why not?

I just downgraded from iTunes 11 back to itunes 10.7.5. My iTunes is now working from one of the Previous Music Librabies. How can I make that previous library my current library? Also, I can't empty iTunes 11 frome the trash. It tells me iTunes 11 is still open. What's going on?
    Thanks in advance!

Without providing details on exactly what you did it is hard to provide an answer.  It's like me saying, "This chocolate cake I made tastes wrong," but not providing the recipe for review.  Maybe it was the garlic in that particular recipe.
If iTunes is successfully using a previous library which you rename to iTunes Library.itl then that is now the current library.
Have you restarted your computer and then tried emptying the trash?

  • Is it possible to downgrade from iTunes 11 back to 10.7

    Hi
    - Really not linking iTunes 11 , is it possible to downgrade, any answer would be extremly helpful!
    Thanks
    - Tom

    =Downgrading from iTunes 11 to iTunes 10.7=
Try activating the sidebar, menu bar, and status bar and see if this is close enough to the previous version to make you content.  It is easier than downgrading and eventually you will be forced to run a newer iTunes unless you have an endless supply of the model computer you currently own.
You may be able to go back with Time Machine but this may involve restoring other items too (https://discussions.apple.com/message/20441404).  Alternatively:
Back up your computer first, in case the unexpected happens.
Here's a step-by-step method and you may find it easier to follow than alternative methods I have posted below.
    Downgrade iTunes 11 to iTunes 10.7 - http://www.emacconsulting.com/apple/itunes/downgrade-itunes-11-to-itunes-10-7/
If the above does not work, or you want to do it without Pacifist, or you want to know what is actually going on when downgrading, or you encounter error messages, here's more details:
    Quit iTunes.
Get iTunes 10.7 from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1576 or the direct download link at:  http://appldnld.apple.com/iTunes10/041-7195.20120912.d3uzQ/iTunes10.7.dmg
Do a few preparatory steps by making sure all iTunes components are not running and cleaning old files.   See https://discussions.apple.com/message/20475394.  Do steps 3 and 4.  Steps 6-8 may be also useful but I don't know if they are essential.  Some of the other steps are not necessary, duplicate steps listed later in my post or are perhaps even unhelpful in the process.
Replace the iTunes 11 application with iTunes 10.7.  Simply dragging the application to the trash may not work. Lion (OSX 10.7) and newer systems have iTunes integrated into the operating system and deleting is a bit more involved.  Two ways to do this are:
    1.  (Easier) Use the shareware Pacifist utility (http://www.charlessoft.com/) to install iTunes 10.7 including all associated system files. Details at http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=16400819&postcount=6
    2. (More work) Check this reference on how to delete the iTunes application itself:
Delete iTunes in Mac OS X 10.7 Lion - http://osxdaily.com/2011/09/13/delete-itunes-in-mac-os-x-10-7-lion/
After deleting the application there may be other files that need downgrading too. See the note about error -42408 at the end of this post. You may want to tuck these away somewhere safe until you have completed the installation of iTunes 10.7.  I have not tested this but ideally if newer versions are not found then the installer will put in the old versions. This may include these files in /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ which apparently get updated by iTunes 11:
    AirTrafficHost.framework
    CoreFP.framework
    DeviceLink.framework
    iTunesAccess.framework
    MobileDevice.framework
After doing one of the two procedures above you will have to rescue the most recent old iTunes library from your iTunes > Previous Libraries folder. Rename it "iTunes Library.itl"  and replace the existing one in the iTunes folder. A newer version of iTunes irreversibly updates your library file so you have to replace it with the old one or you will get an error message. Note, this will revert your library to the version at the time of the upgrade and you will have to update any changes made since.  See:

Alternatively, check https://discussions.apple.com/message/20441424 which requires you have a Time Machine backup (though possibly if you remove the newer version of these files old ones may be installed with the iTunes 10.7 installer - untested).  A  variant of this is at: https://discussions.apple.com/message/20448184

  • If i downgrade my itunes can i save data lost when updating to iphone OS 4?

Hi i was one of the masses who lost their data updating from 313 to OS 4 during june 2010. I had itunes version 9.1 where my content was backed up perfectly on that and i had to update it to 9.2 to upgrade my phone to OS 4.
I got a message saying I have to update to the latest version of itunes to support the latest iphone software for my phone. when I did that and updated, I got the infamous error code my phone crashed everything was erased, when I came to restore from my backup file which is still dated to june 20th 2010, the data was blank.
so if i downgrade my itunes to 9.1 and my iphone back to OS 3.1.3 would I be able to recover my content?

That won't work... reason being is you need the following requirements for the iPhone 4.
    Mac system requirements
Mac computer with USB 2.0 port
Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later
iTunes 10.1 or later (free download from www.itunes.com/download)
    iTunes Store account
    Internet access
    Windows system requirements
    PC with USB 2.0 port
Windows 7; Windows Vista; or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 3 or later
iTunes 10.1 or later (free download from www.itunes.com/download)
    iTunes Store account
    Internet access

  • Downgraded to iTunes 4.9 and STILL can't burn! Hilfe!!!

Now there's a new twist. I downgraded to iTunes 4.9 as some have suggested and I still can't burn CDs. Now I get a error message telling me that the brand new disk I put in is full, and then a second error message comes up shortly thereafter telling me that my startup disk is almost full. But I know that there's nearly 692 megs of disk space available.
What is the story? I've never had this problem before!!!!

    Ray,
run Disk Utility and fix permissions - you also might use a tool like Cocktail and run a full system maintenance through "Pilot"

  • How do you downgrade from itunes 10 to itunes 9?

Hi guys. I was wondering if there is a way to downgrade from itunes 10 to itunes 9. When I downloaded itunes 9 and tried to install it, it said that it couldn't install because there is a newer version of itunes already on my machine. Any help would be nice.

  • How can I downgrade from iTunes 10.5 to 10.4

How can I downgrade from iTunes 10.5 to 10.4?

Thanks for your support, but I changed the TimeZone (both PC and Iphone 3GS on Istanbul GMT+2) and the problem is still there. I updated also Itunes 10.5.1, same problem. I can't syncronize or update the IOS on the phone. I'm afraid I'll have to try the complete reset to factory of the Iphone (I'm afraid sync data on the iphone has been corrupted and Itunes can't sync).
Any advice on how to save all my data, since backup function does not work because it needs the sync feature?
    thanks

  • How do I "downgrade" from iTunes 10 to iTunes 9?

How do I "downgrade" from iTunes 10 to iTunes 9 without having to uninstall and reload all of my music. The new iTunes 10 interface is hideous and bland. I can't stand looking at it anymore. iTunes 9 was much nicer. I have about 200 GB of music so i would really like to avoid having to add everything into a fresh/new library.

  • How can i downgrade from iTunes 10.5 Beta 2 to iTunes 10.5 Beta 1?

i have a iPhone on iOS 5.0 Beta 1 and iTunes on 10.5 beta 2 but i cant sync and when i install itunes 10.5 beta 1 it's not possible to start itunes
    what can i do?

The info below corrects the mistake of upgrading to iTunes 10.5 Beta 2 before installing iOS 5.0 Beta 2 on your iDevice.
To downgrade from iTunes 10.5 Beta 2 to iTunes 10.5 Beta 1 you need to trash the iTunes Application before running the Beta 1 installer. Otherwise the icon will just bounce once and the app won't run.
Then once you are back on Beta 1 should should restore your iDevice to iOS 5 beta 2 (you can only use restore, upgrade doesn't work and throws error 3002) you then need to install iTunes beta 2 and then restore from your backup.

  • Downgrade of iTunes 11 to 10.7 = error message (-42408)

So I downloaded the latest version of iTunes and immediately regretted it. I then went about reinstalling 10.7 by downloading it from Apple's website and then deleted 11. I replaced the new itunes library with the latest 'previous' version from the itunes folder.
So 10.7 is up and running again but now I get 2 error messages every time I open it.
One says 'An unknown error occured (-402408)' then one appears immediately after saying 'We could not complete your itunes store request. An unknown error occured (-402408). There was an error in the iTunes store. Please try again later'
After I click these away iTunes opperates normally.
I'm sure these error messages are related to my cut and paste way of downgrading itunes but how do i stop the errors from occuring? Is there another file i need to delete/modify/replace?
I really dont want to have to upgrade to 11, I can't stand the new layout that they for some reason are forcing you to have.
Any help would be hugely appreciated,
    Thanks,
    Jack

Back up your computer first, in case the unexpected happens.
Get iTunes 10.7.  Apple does not keep many old versions on its web site.  I always install iTunes by downloading the installer and then keep it on my archive drive so I can have access to old versions.  This one is no longer openly linked on Apple's site:
    iTunes 10.7 for OS X  http://appldnld.apple.com/iTunes10/041-7195.20120912.d3uzQ/iTunes10.7.dmg

  • How can I downgrade to iTunes 11.1.2? URGENT!!!

I haven't been able to use iTunes since I upgraded to 11.1.3 some time in November.
Today I finally got a chance to visit the Genius Bar, but the guy there couldn't solve the problem, which basically that when I open iTunes seconds after opening the main library it becomes unresponsive. It works fine with other, smaller libraries located on the Mac. I have searched in these suppport forums, but none of the tips I've seen have worked.
So, what the Genius Bar guy told me today was to delete iTunes and download the older 11.1.2 version.
However, he did not want to tell me where I could find this previous version of iTunes!!!
I searched on Google but the only sites I found are asking me to create a downloading account and provide my financial information, which I refuse to do because I don't know if these downloading sites are legit or nefarious.
So, I will be very appreciative if someone could tell me where I can legitimately and safely download iTunes 11.1.2.
My MacBook Pro is a Sept 2010 model now running Lion 10.7.5.

Downgrading of any version of iOS isn't supported by Apple. If you search the web, you'll find instructions that may work, but you're on your own should any problems arise. For many people it goes without problems, but for some it's reportedly bricked their devices.
    Regards.
