Downgrade WLC 4.2 to 4.0.219
Hi, Is it straight process for downgrading OS or do I need any intermediary version ?
Thanks for helping
4.2 and later code has the configuration in xml, prior versions is in bianary. So if you decide to downgrade to 4.2 to 4.0 then you will have to reconfigure the wlc from the startup wizard and then you can restore the wlc configuration if you had a good backup from that version.

Downgrading WLC 7.x to 6.x software
Hi,
I've had to downgrade my WLC software from 7.x to 6.x to resolve some issue. I just went ahead and did the downgrade without re-aplying and configs or anything. My setup is very simple, no clean air or advanced features, so is this all OK or should I factory reset and re-apply config from scratch???
thanks,
SimonYou should be ok. But I would double check your configs. As you know if you make a setting in 7 that isnt in 6 you might see a problem. I would play close attention to client issues and your wlc logs.

Downgrading WLC to Primary 4.0 Backup 4.0 from a Primar of 4.1
Guys (& gals)
Looking to roll back a classroom controller to 4.0. Is it possible to roll backwards both Primary and backup images to 4.0 (to prevent students booting to 4.1) 4402 controller.
thanks RobYou can downgrading from 4.1 to the 4.0 release. But it will result in the config needing to be re-entered. The config changes in 4.1 will not carry over to the 4.0 release when downgrading.

Some C1242 Radios are disabled after WLC 5508 upgrade to 7.3.101.0
One week ago I use a WLC 5508 to place and replace another WLC 5508 with version 6.0.199.4, when I conect the new WLC all AP´s works OK only 10 dont work and not are recognizes from the WLC with version 7.3.101.0. The fail is the radios stay disabled. All ap´s are AIR-AP1242G-AK9 . See the image below, the only difference this ten AP´s are conected in switches cisco all the rest are connected in switches of ohter vendor.
If possible some command in the configuration is not neccesary and make the bad function?
This is tipically config apllied by the customer in they cisco switches
interface GigabitEthernet0/22
description PB-RS-A22
switchport access vlan 5
switchport mode access
switchport port-security
switchport port-security aging time 2
switchport port-security violation restrict
switchport port-security aging type inactivity
macro description cisco-desktop
spanning-tree portfast
spanning-tree bpduguard enable
I reed some documents but i don´t found the right solution can any help me?
ThankAre the APs being powered through POE or perhaps an injector (if injector, do you have the injector override enabled for joined APs with their radios down?) What's the disparity of the models; are all 1242s in this "down radio" state, or only the 1242s plugged in to the Cisco Switches?
When you say the 10 don't work and are not "recognized" by the WLC, are you indicating that they have not re-joined the newer WLC or are they joined but their radios are not operationally up? Please clarify the state of these APs.
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/controller/release/notes/crn73.html#wp965532
Please note that a version prior to 7.0.98.0 cannot be upgraded directly to 7.3.101.0 from the WLC perspective, but it's possible your 1242 AP's image (used from the 6.0.199.4 release) is not able to properly join and download code for the 7.3.101.0 WLC that was put in to place. The 1242 APs in your scenario would still be running the old 6.0.199.4 image.
I'm curious what all is or isn't happening from the questions above, but you may need to load a newer recovery release on the 1242s to have them join properly - or - downgrade the WLC to a version that allows a direct upgrade from 6.0.199.4 such as 7.0.240.0. Let the APs join the downgraded WLC and finish up any image downloads and re-join, then upgrade the WLC back to 7.3.101.0 (would recommend latest 7.3.112.0 instead) and see if they rejoin and radios are online. -
Downgrade 4402 for adding LAP1522
We want to add 1522 LAP to our mesh network, we used WLC4402 with software released 4.2.207 and LAP1510 mesh network.
For compatibility both of LAP type we should downgrade WLC to 4.1.192.22M or 4.1.192.35M (Which Software released correct for this plan?)
1- Can we downgrade the current software released to 4.1.192.X directly?
2- What is the procedure?
3- After downgrade, the WLC reset to factory default? how we can backup and restore configuration to new software released?Hi,
Software downgrade is not recommended by us (CISCO or CISCO TAC).. sometimes configs will be lost and sometimes the WLC crashes.. You could backup the config before downgrade and then if the WLC doesnt crash then you can load the config back on it..
Hope this answers your question..

WLC 7.4.100.0 Downgrade
Hello,
Some time ago I updated a WLC, model 2504, from version 7.3 to 7.4.100.0. I also update the FUS (Field Upgrade Software) to the latest release, 1.8.0.0.
Now I need to downgrade the WLC back to 7.3 version.
My doubt is: Can I just take the normal processes and downgrade the WLC back to 7.3, even with the FUS in version 1.8.0.0?
Tks guys,
BartuliheLeo,
I do it all the time especially when I beta test. So far I have not had any issues downgrading, but I always double check the config to make sure that the config hasn't changed. Now this could be because of issues I had in the past or when testing beta code, but even when I upgrade, I still check to make sure. There were a few code versions that did change some if my settings back to default.

I currently have 4400 series and 2000 series controller which are running 4.2.176 code. I have purchased some 2112 and 2125 but they have come with 5.2 code, is there a way to downgrade them to 4.2.176? I haven't been able to find this code on the CCO. Reason I want to downgrade is because of the issue with the mobility anchors that want the same code on all WLC. Please help.

Hi Experts,
Awhile ago, I upgraded the standby 4404 WLC from 5.1.151.0 to 5.2.193.0 to 7.0.240.0 and the upgrade was successful. Before upgrading the active WLC, I tested a couple of APs to join the standby WLC (enabled master controller) and the APs don't join the standby WLC, it joins back to the active WLC. The client wants to return to the old code. Is there any downgrade path I have to follow and what would be the procedure for downgrading?
Regards,Hi,
No, that command won't help you to force that AP to go & register to that WLC (unless you have a single WLC ). Once AP register to a WLC it will learn all the WLC information in that mobility group. So as long as your active & standby 4400 in same mobility group all your AP already aware of both WLC.
You have to specify the primary controller in order for an AP to go & register for that particular WLC. Below do that for you.
LAP#capwap ap primary-base <WLC-NAME> <WLC-MGT-IP>
OR
LAP#lwapp ap primary-base <WLC-NAME> <WLC-MGT-IP>
If 5.x. support you can do that via WLC CLI as well.
config ap primary-base <controller_name> <Cisco_AP_name> [controller_IP_Addres]
See this for AP Failover behavior of this 7.x code.

Downgrade versions of WLC controller code.
Hi All,
We have recently upgraded controller code to 7.3.101.0 from Version 7.0.116.0. after that users started reporting wirless disconnction issues.
we wanted to roolback to older code 7.0.116.0.
But WLC shows....
Primary images as 7.3.101.0
Backup images as 7.2.110.0
We need some clarification to procees further...please help
Can we simply downgrade to 7.2.110.0 ? --- by setecting secondary code in WLC ... command -->Config boot --> by selecting seondary code.
Is there any impact ?
or upload 7.0.116.0 code on WLC and reload of WLC will work ?
Thanks
SriSri,
First off... Did you upgrade the FUS image when you upgraded to 7.3? This FUS image is required when the WLC is upgraded to v7.2.x.
Also note that if you have 3602 AP's you need v7.2.x.
If you want to downgrade, just load the code you want and it will replace one of the code versions and I believe it will replace the secondary, but that doesn't matter. After you upload the code, then push that code to all the AP's. When that completes, interchange the image on the ap and verify that the ap image has the code you are going to as primary and then you can reboot the WLC.

I need to login on web authentication on HTTP instead of HTTPS.
If I login on HTTP, I will not receive certificate alerts that prevent the users connections.
I saw how to configure it with 7.x relesae but I have IOS XE Version 03.03.05SE and I don´t know how to configure it.
Web Authentication on HTTP Instead of HTTPS
You can login on web authentication on HTTP instead of HTTPS. If you login on HTTP, you do not receive certificate alerts.
For earlier than WLC Release 7.2 code, you must disable HTTPS management of the WLC and leave HTTP management. However, this only allows the web management of the WLC over HTTP.
For WLC Release 7.2 code, use the config network web-auth secureweb disable command to disable. This only disables HTTPS for the web authentication and not the management. Note that this requires a reboot of the controller !
On WLC Release 7.3 and later code, you can enable/disable HTTPS for WebAuth only via GUI and CLI.
Can anyone tell me how to configure web authentication on HTTP instead of HTTPS with IOS XE?
Thanks in advance.
Regards. The documentation doesn't provide very clear direction, does it?
To download the WLC's default webauth page, browse to the controller's Security > Web Login Page. Make sure the web authentication type is Internal (Default). Hit the Preview button. Then use your browser's File > Save As... menu item to save the HTML into a file. Edit this to your liking and bundle it and any graphics images up into a TAR archive, then upload via the controller's COMMAND page. -
How can I add a new WLC on my network
Hi there,
I have a WLC4404(v4.0.219.0) and several APs on my network.
Those APs are belonged to a couple of vlans.
I planed to add a new WLC4404(v5.0.148.0) on same network with a old one.
I configured the new WLC4404 as a primary controller of the APs and the old on as a secondary.
I noticed some APs could be registered only on same vlan with the managemnet interface of the WLC.
How can I register the APs on different VLANs with Mgmt. of the WLC?
Let me know if you have a any idea.
Thanks
Jongkwan LeeWell since the ap's only know of the existing WLC, the only way they will join, is if you remove the existing wlc and let the ap's find the new wlc. When you configure the mobility group, that info is pushed to the ap, so that it knows of the new wlc. This way you can set the primary ap to the new one and the second wlc to the existing wlc.... make sure ap fallback is enabled so that the ap will try to join the new wlc. If you still have issues, I would console into the ap and capture the log when you faile the existing wlc.

Windows 8.1 compatibility with WLC v7.0.98.218 and DELL DEVICES
hello,
We have a lot wlc (4400, WiSM, WS-C3750G-24PS and 5500) running on version 7.0.98.218.
Windows 7 and Windows 8 clients are able to connect to the WiFi, which has Windows 8.1 can no longer connect.
we tested two WLAN's, one with security policy: [WPA2] [Auth (802.1X)] and another with [WPA2] [Auth (PSK)], MAC Filtering
in any of the WLAN's the clients with Windows 8.1 did not bind (cannot connect).
the outup obtained is attached
one of the devices which are having problems is a dell laptop E5430.
We've update the wireless card drivers ... according to the dell ... I did downgrade for old version... upgrade to last versions given by broadcom ... but still the problem
can you help me ?!?
Regards,
Tiago MarquesTo enable that your network is ready for 802.11w and Windows 8 ensure that you are running the latest Cisco Unified releases in your wireless controller network.

3702i AP's not Joining WLC - Layer 3 discovery request not received on management VLAN
Hi Guys,
This is a follow up post to this thread: https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/12400481/3702i-not-joint-2504
Have been playing around with my AP's and made sure the time is correct on all the devices ( WLC and Switch). I have also moved the AP's to the same Vlan as the management IP of the WLC.
if I move the AP's to the same Vlan as the WLC they join and are happy, as soon as I move them to a different Vlan they cant join and there time goes back to the default plus they do not seem to save the WLC details to flash but still remember the test names I give them.
it appears that option 43 is working fine as I can see it look for the WLC IP and I have done some trouble shooting on the WLC and it looks like it see's the AP but doesn't except it.
please see below for the boot up of the AP and the WLC logs:

Cisco ISE 1.2 & Cisco WLC 5508 v7.6
Hi all,
we are planning to upgrade our WLC to 7.6 to fix a bug with FlexConnect Client ACLs but I have just seen on the Cisco ISE Compatibility table that the it only recommends up to v7.5 of the WLC 5508...
Cisco have told me to steer clear of 7.5 as it is in a defferred status, so does anyone know, or have running in a lab or production, ISE1.2 with a 5508 WLC v7.6 NAD ?
I would much rather know of any issues people are experiencing before hand than to have to go through a software upgrade and then rollback.
Thanks all
Mario De RosaHi Neno,
right I have this almost working now.
I have simplified the setup. I am not going to do any client provisioning at the moment.
So I can connect to the corporate SSID using EAP-TLS and I can successfully push the branch data VLAN upon successful authorisation.
Now I am trying to introduce the posture element & per user ACLs.
I have defined the redirect ACL & Flex ACL on the vWLC however the NAC agent will not pop-up. The client is in the right VLAN and the redirect ACL seems to be getting applied as the client does get an IP through DHCP. However, the client cannot ping the ISE or access the guest portal when I open the browser.
DNS resolution seems to be working fine.
VLAN220 is my datacentre VLAN which the Management Interface on the controller is plugged in to.
VLAN10 is the branch DATA VLAN.
below is some output to give you some more details...

Can you see any obvious reason why the NAC agent wont pop up?

Cisco APs not updating after WLC-update
Hello everyone,
I need to update my 5508 WLCs to a newer software, to support new AP-models.
Started with AIR-CT5500-K9-1-7-0-0-FUS.aes and AIR-CT5500-K9-7-0-240-0.aes, everything worked fine. Pre-Downloaded the newer Image to the APs, restarted the WLCs and everything was ok.
Now I tried to update to 7.6.100.0 as well as 7.4.121.0. Both Versions should support my APs, but it doesn't work at all.
Any ideas are highly appreciated.
If you need further output, just let me know.
Regards,
Manuel

Nachricht geändert durch Manuel SporlederHi Scott,
I am not trying to pre-download it anymore, since this doesn't work at all.
If I just restart the controller, the APs are downloading the image telling me "everything is fine", are rebooted and that stated with the old image again.
