Downgraded Gmaps version in lightroom or bug?

Dear Forum,
there are two things in lightroom 4 that are a bit annoying if I use geotagging. I do not have a gps module in my camera so i do it ex post, e.g. finding the spot in lightroom gmaps and mark it via drag and drop (What is a great feature in general!!).
First, it seems like the google maps version in lightroom does not support any information beyond street names etc.
As an example, "Wall Street 110" work fine, "charging bull" as well, but not e.g., "Westin Times Square". Can I activate this feature or is it really a downgraded google maps version?
Secondly (this is really annoying). As an work around, I seach the correct spot via the normal google  maps in my browser, copy the GPS adress and enter it into the gmaps in lighroom. The annoying part is that lightroom gmaps does not use the exact position but rather marks the next best "known" spot. In a city, it is not a big thing, but in a not very densely populated area (e.g., Botsuana, Iceland), this spot may then be quite far away from the typed in GPS position. Currently I then translate the gmaps GPS (usually in °only, e.g. 12.12313°, 23,124124°) via a converter in the lighroom format (e.g., 12°13'14''N 12°13'14''E) and fill in the meta data directly.
Does anybody have an ideas if this is a bug, a result of a cheap adobe gmaps license or a result of my incompetency:-)?
Thx,
A

You are right. It is centered just as you said. But totally useless since you actually do not know which information is used and cannot further detail. I would even go that far that it is only by accident since lightroom gmaps only used the information times square.
If you use any 'special' info, e.g., "Hansel and Gretel Picture Garden", gmaps finds it easily, lightroom does not at all (even with the complete adress). Furthmore it does not show the name in the map. That's why I think it is a downgraded map or gmap light in lightroom
Regarding the GPS issue:
If i type in 48.918326,11.409075 as an example. Gmaps in Chrome shows me the right spot. Lightroom gmaps is quite far away. So what I do is to tranlsate it in e.g. http://rechneronline.de/geo-koordinaten/ into N48° 55' 5.974" E11° 24' 32.67" , then I shift the N and the E to the end of the resp. numerical sequence and type it directly into the pciture GPS information in meta data.
So I would say there's an workaround, but it is just a pain in the...

  • I have two versions of Lightroom installed on my computer, can I uninstall the older version?

While looking at the "Programs and Features" folder on my Windows 7 computer I discovered that I have two versions of Adobe Lightroom installed on my system. One is Lightroom 5.2, installed on 9/19/2013, and the other is Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.5 64-bit, installed on 7/5/2014
      - Can I uninstall the older version?
      - Will uninstalling the older version cause any problems with the newer version?
      - If yes to either question, is there anything I need to do before doing the uninstall (i.e. deactivating, etc.)
Any advice on how to correct this problem is gratefully appreciated.
PS; I have the same issue with Muse CC. See: I have two versions of Muse CC installed on my computer, can I uninstall the older version?

    Jim,
I thought it was odd that I had two versions of Lightroom installed as well. I have been able to track the issue back to an apparent "bug" in the Lightroom 5.2 update that installed a second version of Lightroom in addition to updating the existing version on my computers. At the time, I posted about it at Lightroom 5 installed twice on my laptop. While I never got an answer to my question, which was "Is this normal?" I did hear from others in the forum the experienced the same problem and had the same question. As time passed, later releases updated one of the two installations, but did not effect the second. Hence, two different versions of Lightroom 5 installed on the same computer.
Uninstalling the older version solved the problem. Thanks

  • Newest Version of Lightroom is Slooooooooooooooow

Anybody else notice the current version of lightroom is much slower than previous version? I've looked for the option to Optimize Catalog but it seems to have been removed from the program? Anyone else notice this. I'm thinking about reinvestigating Aperutre if this continues.

I to just built a new machine for LR3.2 which I love but also find it slow (mostly after airbrushing a bit). I have a new motherboard, quadcore AMD processor and 8GB DDR3 RAM. Everything is fine except Airbrushing....Also like I posted on another page, when I want to go to a web page by scrolling (Windows Button + Tab) if I am in LR it will not scroll? Just little bugs like that make the program a love hate relationship

  • How to download the 32 bit version of Lightroom 3.3, with a Windows 7 operating system?

When I originally downloaded my version of lightroom, it was on my older computer- and the 32 bit was downloaded.  Have not had any problems with it.  When I re-downloaded lightroom onto my newer computer, it automatically downloaded the 64 bit version (because the new computer is Windows 7)... I didn't think any thing of it until I attempted to burn a disc and was unable to- so, it's basically useless to me.
So- I was told to uninstall the program and re-install (typing in same serial number) and to be sure to choose 32 bit this time... but i've done that and now realize that it doesn't even give me the option- just automatically downloads the 64 bit, so not sure what I am supposed to do now?    I had no idea that there would be issues with newer windows operating systems!
    Any advice????

And just to be totally clear, the only 'issue' with the 64bit version of LR3 was the lack of a dedicated "Burn to Jpeg" Export Preset, caused in turn by the lack of an appropriate 64-bit driver.....however, it was/is still easy enough to export to a CD/DVD using LR3 64-bit, simply by selecting the DVD drive in the Export Location field in the export dialog.
So no need to upgrade from LR3 to LR4 just to be able to burn a DVD (plenty of better reasons than that for upgrading), and also no need to downgrade LR3 from 64 bit version to 32 bit version either.

  • "Strangelove" splash/info still launching in licensed versions of Lightroom 3

I had a beta version of Lightroom 3, but upgraded to the full version when it was released, and have upgraded with every available update (well over a year now).  However the "Strangelove" splash screen from the beta version still appears at launch and as the "About pane.  I've always wondered about this, as just some sort of strange bug, but I beleive my version[s] of Lightroom is buggier than on my father's iMac and, while trying to troubleshoot a current issue with text in Web Layouts (http://forums.adobe.com/message/4009201), I wanted to check what version of Lightroom 3 I was currently at and it isn't stated in either the "About" pane or in the Finder "Get Info"!  I've tried completely deleting Lightroom and all it's associated files and reinstalling it, but the "Strangelove" stays.  I'm concerned it's a sign of more bugs in the workings!

It's an Easter Egg. Help/ CTRL About Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3   and you will get the normal credits.

If I'm in LIghtroom 5, and try to Edit in Photoshop CS6, I always get the following message: "This version of Lightroom may require the Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in version 8.6 for full compatibility." But I have updated to 8.6 and have no remaining updates. How can I fix this?
If I click "Open Anyway" or "Render using Lightroom", I get the following message:
"Adobe Photoshop CS6 cannot be opened because of a problem.
Check with the developer to make sure Adobe Photoshop CS6 works with this version of OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and OS X."
Please tell me what to do so I can edit from Lightroom to Photoshop.

In Photoshop, if you choose Help - About Plug-in... - Camera Raw, does it say 8.6?
Seems to me there was some hiccup they found in the update process, which prompted this:
Camera Raw updates cannot be applied
I honestly don't know if the problem could apply to 8.6 as well, which is why I asked you to check to make very sure you really got it.

  • I am living in the UAE and I would like to download an install a Japanese version of Lightroom 6.

I am living in the UAE and I would like to download an install a Japanese version of Lightroom 6.
The only available version from the MENA store are English, Arabic, and French. And there is a region error when I change the region to Japan.

As I understand iTunes Gift Cards, they are for the specific country's iTunes Store where you acquired the Gift Card. To have an account in a specific country's iTunes Store the Terms of Use say that you must reside in that country, have a pernmanent billg address, not be visiting. It would be a bad idea to buy the iTunes Gift Cards. It would really complicate the authorization of the media in your iTunes library.

  • Windows 8 Upgrade - 64-bit version of Lightroom -application error 0xc000007b

I've just upgraded my Desktop PC from the 64-bit Windows 7 operating system to 64 bit Windows 8 Pro. The migration has gone very smoothly, with justone exception - Adobe Lightroom 64-bit version 4.2 won't start up. As soon as I try to open the application it comes up with an error code of 0xc000007b.
Searching the web I've seen a number of suggestions which I've tried to to avail...
    - uninstal, restart and then reinstall Lightroom. Same 0xc000007b error
    - uninstal, restart, run ccleaner to clear registry issues, restart, download the latest version of Lightroom from Adobe website (4.2.1) and then reinstall Lightroom. Same 0xc000007b error
As a workaround I found that uninstalling Lightroom 64-bit and reinstalling the 32-bit version (by selecting the setup32.exe program, rather than using the install Lightroom 4.exe program) gives me a working copy of Lightroom again. This does however mean I'm using the the 32-bit version of Lightroom, rather than 64-bit version that I had working before the upgrade to Windows 8.
Why am I getting the 0xc00000fb problems with the 64-bit 4.2.1 version of Lightroom and how can I resolve the issue so I can go back to the 64-bit version that I had working in Windows 7 immediately before upgrading to Windows 8?
    Thanks for suggestions!

  • How to activate the trial version of lightroom 3

    Hello,
I am new here and need some help.
I have downloaded the trial version of lightroom 3 in my home windows computer and like it very much. I have then proceeded to purchase a box copy which will only arrive after two weeks. However i do not plan to install it on my home computer but my new imac computer at my office where i will do all my photo editing.
My problem is i cannot wait for two weeks for the product to arrive. Can i download another trial version for my new imac in my office and when the box product comes can i just use the serial number and activate the trial version or do i have to uninstall the trial version and reinstall again. According to my seller she says that i cant do this because i need to reinstall the box product again which sounds weird to me.
My other question is the earlier trial version that i installed in my home computer, i dont plan to use it anymore, so can i just ignore it?
    Thanks in advance.

Importing photos puts information for each one into the LR catalog, which is just a database that LR knows how to read and write.  Reopening the catalog with a new install of LR would tell LR where each of those photos is, and what adjustments you'd made.  You don't have to reimport as long as you reopen the same catalog file with the new install.  You could try this on Windows:  uninstall-reinstall-reopen, and see how it works to get comfortable with it.   You only have to reimport if you lose your catalog, and have to start a new one.  If you write the metadata to files, either automatically via a preference, or manually via the Metadata menu item and grid mode, then you can even have your adjustments intact if you have to reimport, but you'll lose your history and other things that are only in the catalog and not in the XMP sidecar files.  These sidecar files is probably the only way to transfer edits from the PC version to the Mac version of LR which you probably hadn't considered.  At least I don't think you can copy the LR catalog file from a PC and open it on a Mac.
If the LR trial expires before you have a serial number then you can't use it, but once you do enter in the serial number, you can pick up where you left off.
Lightroom isn't activated like Photoshop where there is a Adobe-server record of each computer and serial number.  LR is just either an unregistered-trial, an expired-trial or registered.  LR is smart enough to understand if you've installed it on the computer, before, so you can't extend a trial by uninstalling and re-installing w/o reformatting your HD and reinstalling the OS, or at least I think that is enough.

I am thinking of changing from a PC to a Mac.  Will I need to buy a new, Apple compatible, version of Lightroom, or can I upgrade to it, or can I get it free as I've paid for the PC version?

Your licence is not platform specific, so Lightroom can be used on any two machines (Mac and/or WIndows), with one actually being used at any given time.
    So no, you're money's safe!

  • Troubleshooting raw files on trial version of Lightroom 4

Just downloaded a trial version of Lightroom 4. Am proficient in PS6 but have never used Lightroom. I decided to do a practice run through Lightroom using a folder from a recent shoot..some jpegs are finished and named, some are left alone and I have all the raw files in this folder and expected the entire file of pics to "show" in Lightroom. Only the named finished pics are showing the image and only the raw files are named but "unavailable" to be seen, and any unworked jpegs are not showing at all. As I say I was just doing a practice run on putting Lightroom 4 through its paces so I could familiarize myself with its use. These are files from a Canon 5D Mark III. Help me troubleshoot this please.

Although I'm not entirely certain from your problem description, am I right in guessing that these issues are appearing on the Import Screen when you are initially trying to import that folder? If so, "named finished pics are showing the image" I interpret to mean that for jpegs that you have RE-named from original (every file has a name!) you see the thumbnails in the centre panel of the Import screen, which is what you expect.
Original Raw files, however, do not show the image preview....so what does show, any message at all? For 5DIII raw files you need to be running LR4.1 or later, can you confirm that's what you are running?
Finally, the jpegs which you haven't re-named, and are not showing, I'm assuming these are part of Raw+Jpeg 'pairs' SOOC, is that correct? If so, go to the Preferences menu in Lightroom and check that in the Import Options section of the General Tab you have checked the option to "Treat JPEG files next to raw files as separate photos". If it is UNchecked, Lightroom will not show you the Jpeg half of such 'pairs', it will simply make a reference to the Jpeg as a "sidecar" file to the Raw, and the Jpeg cannot be separately processed. Check the option, however, and you do get separate files...

Hello, I recently downloaded a trial version of Lightroom and then decided to get the monthly photoshop membership.  Now, when I launch Lightroom, my choices are to enter a serial number to continue the trial.  On the adobe website, it says "You can convert your trial to a Creative Cloud complete or single-app membership by purchasing on the Creative Cloud website. After you purchase your membership, your desktop product trial will automatically be licensed upon relaunch."  But this is not the case.  I do not want to risk losing my catalog and the work I have already done in Lightroom, so what should I do?

  • I have downloaded a trial version of lightroom 4 to upgrade from my lightroom 3, but it wont open.

Hi all, I have downloaded a trial version of lightroom 4 to see if I want to upgrade from my lightroom3, but it wont open on my pc. It keeps asking me what program I want to use to open it with, and when I click adobe reader it tells me that it is not a supported file type or the file has been damaged! Help!???

When I click on the program download in the download file, it asks me if I want to open it. When I click open, it then asks me which program I want to use to open it with, (this window lists all programs such as Nero, internet explorer adobe reader etc) and automatically highlights adobe reader. After I click open with the adobe reader highlighted, it then tells me that it cannot open Lightroom because it is not a supported file type, or the file has been damaged! I have downloaded it twice but neither one is able to open. Thanks so much.

  • Can trial version of Lightroom CC sync with mobile?

I have the trial version of Lightroom and I have Lightroom Mobile installed on my iPad. I have sync turned on, but on the iPad (logged in) it says no collections available. I can't find anywhere online whether the trial version of the desktop app is allowed to sync. But if I can't sync a small set of photos to understand how well it works, I won't purchase the CC subscription. I can't figure out what the point is of a trial version if you can't see how the sync feature works. It seems like the whole concept of CC is the mobile connection.

    Please refer to:
Yes, Lightroom mobile is available for iPad and iPhone. With Lightroom mobile, you can edit and organize photos in your Lightroom 5 catalog anywhere, anytime. Lightroom mobile requires a Creative Cloud Photography or complete membership. A 30-day trial is also available.
