Downgraded to 10.5, Dead MiniDisplayPort

I recently set up a new 27" iMac (MB952LL/A) for one of our graphics users, and because AppleTalk is still needed for several printers on the network I wiped the hard drive & installed 10.5.x in place of 10.6 it shipped with. I did some research before doing this & found nothing on Apple's site or anywhere else that said there would be an issue with downgrading. Afterward everything worked flawlessly, until I tried connecting a second monitor to the Mini DisplayPort; no output at all.
At first I thought it was a hardware problem, so contacted the local Mac shop where I bought it. They messed with it for a couple of days and concluded that there was nothing wrong with the hardware, the problem was with the OS downgrade; 10.5 apparently has no drivers for the Radeon HD 4670 video card in the newer iMac, so it won't work.
I've got to believe that I'm not the first to try something like this, so I'm looking for workarounds that anyone else may have found to get an external display to work on this machine with 10.5. Install 3rd party drivers? The second monitor is primarily used to display an email window -- all color-critical work is done on the main screen -- so color fidelity isn't a huge issue. I just need it to work.

Yes, I did see that, but notice it says, +"If you install an earlier (previous) version of the Mac OS X than what was included, your computer may exhibit unexpected behavior..."+ It then goes on to list specific behavior issues that did not manifest themselves when tested. The internal video works wonderfully with 10.5; why would the external video not work?

Help! Dead laptop and need to downgrade from 10.5, in particular, Mail

My G4 1.67, barely coping with 10.5 has died. I am now existing on my 11 yr old 400Mhz sawtooth until I have the funds to buy a new machine.
The HDD was rescued and is now hooked up to my Sawtooth (praise be to OSX flexibility in this regard)
However, the machine is on impulse power, 1/4 that of my 6 year old laptop.
As it has only 768MB RAM, even Tiger is a bit of a push, but livable. Leopard is not.
I do have my old 10.4.5 image and want to bring it up to date.
1. I have an iPhone, so could I use that to bring my Safari bookmarks up to date?
2. Mail - how could I bring back to my Tiger world the current state of my Mail on Leopard?
3. Is there anything else I would need to pull back (keychain?) or is it best to somehow pull the entire user account back in?

Unfortunately your 10.5 system will not run on your 400 Mhz G4.
You can upgrade to 10.4.11 on it using the update here:

If not, buying a used or refurbished 867 Mhz or faster PowerPC Mac will allow you to use the Migration Assistatant to bring in data off your old 10.5 hard drive.

Z87 Mpower SP : BIOS A is dead or can be saved??

Hi guys,
I accidentally did a failed flashing and caused my board doesn't wanna boot to post but all LEDs, fans on CPU and card are working only blackscreen on monitor and there is no LED show up on Debug LED. I use MSI Z87 Mpower SP with BIOS A (damaged) and BIOS B (working normal).
I already did a recovery way that xmad have said before while I used MSI Z77A-GD80 (dual BIOS) and it was working at that time but now with Z87 Mpower SP (dual BIOS) it won't work, I use MSI HQ Forum USB flasher btw when I did failed flashing I was using M-flash after finished mainboard was turn off it self, then I did CLEAR CMOS ... after that I powered up PC and it turned out to begin flashing ME .
The process with MSI HQ Forum USB flashing Tool is normal but when it is done I do a clear-CMOS and power up PC still debug LED is not showing anything although mainboard is power up (all fans, card, LEDs are on)
So is the BIOS A dead?? Or can be saved?
Btw I use i5 4430, Gskill ARES 2x4G GBA 2133MHz CL9 1.64v, WD Black 500G SATA3, Corsair HX750 & MSI GTX780 Lightning with windows 7 x64 SP1.
Note : Now I use BIOS V1.6 on BIOS B, before this BIOS A is V1.7 and I wanna tried to downgrade BIOS to V1.5.
One last thing I did flash with 4G USB FD with FAT formatted, is it OK? Next I will try to use FAT32 on my TOSHIBA 16G USB3.0.

You needed special archives to allow fpt flashing, else forum tool won't work.

A.) Download the attached archive and place it on your desktop. Do not decompress.
B.) Download and install the Forum flash tool.
C.) Insert your FAT32 formatted usb stick.
D.) Make sure that all win 8 options are disabled. (Fast Boot etc) Also make sure the legacy USB is enabled.
E.) Start the forum flash tool and select option 1. Then point the tool at the compressed archive we downloaded earlier. Then to your USB Flash Drive.
F.) Boot to the USB from working bios B.
G.) Once it booted successfully switch to bios A without powering down or rebooting
H.) Now follow the directions and let the tool flash bios A with desired version

IPhone 5 dead after updating to iOS 8.0.2

After updating from 7.1.2 to 8.0.2, my iPhone 5 cannot charge and is not recognized by my Mac. All original cables. After 24 hours, the battery is dead, so there is no way to even find a solution by restoring or anything. It is a brick. If I were to replace the battery by myself, I still would not know how to proceed, software-wise, as not able to downgrade back to 7.1.2 (where everything was fine) and not sure of iOS 8.1 fixes any of this.
Any ideas welcome. Been surfing the web for weeks and still no solution found.

Hi! I always reset my network setting after every update of iOS because of the battery drain. I did the same for iOS 8.02, but to no effect. The problems I am experiencing are:
1. battery drain - just around 4hrs of regular use instead of 8hrs
2. the phone lags even when answering calls
3. frequent signal drops and the phone heating up
4. reset by itself yesterday while i was switching between apps
I also updated an iPad mini first gen, but has no problem so far.

Apple, let us downgrade to iOS 6.0!

Well, this battery drain issue is coming from iOS 6.1 to me and it seems that it is common on almost every iPhone model (4, 4S, 5, etc). It maybe not the iOS itself, perhaps from this version, the iOS gives some opportunity to some Apps to do some stuff in the background that kills battery. Some of us have this kind of apps and having battery problem, other don’t.
My iPhone battery was good prior to iOS 6.1, with 5 hours of usage and even up to 5 days on standby! After upgrade to 6.1, it loses 2~3% battery every hour on standby and only lasts for 1 or 2 hours of usage before dead. It is not as bad as some who lose 10% of battery every hour on standby, but to me, the battery life has reduced to one quarter of past.
I am sure Apple is working on it and iOS 6.1.2 seems to be an urgent upgrade to solve, but I knew it won't solve my problem, because I don’t use the Exchange account and the update aimed to solve that issue.
I think the best solution is that the Apple gives us the choice to downgrade to iOS 6.0 until the next stable version is ready to go. This solution will give the Apple the time to find and solve the problem and gives us our phones back to use.

This is my recent test:
I charged the phone to 100%, unplugged it and set the Airplane Mode to ON and guess what? It is 11 hours now and the battery is still on 100% of charge!
I am using 2G network and the signal in my area is very good (full antenna). Maybe the problem is in communicating with the BTS towers and nothing related to apps or settings or hardware.
It is obvious that the Airplane Mode saves battery, but maybe in recent iOS updates, it is the 2G network connection that drains the battery more than usual.
What do you think?

My iphone 4s is terrible after the 0s6 upgrade, can I downgrade?

Everything was working fine with my 4s before the fateful day I accepted the upgrade to the new os6. Since then, not only does a fully charged battery only last a matter of hours but the phone "crashes" constantly. I'll fully charge my battery before bed and it's dead by the morning. I've turned off all systems I can, wifi, hotspot, etc. and can literally watch the battery drain with no use in front of my eyes. During a text, email, calendar entry, web search, you name it, the thing goes blank and then back to the home screen, loosing any work I'd been doing. This gets very frustrating when I have to retype every text 2-3 times and send in short bursts to make sure I don't loose the reply. I've rebooted many times and restored factory settings. I've synced to itunes and downloaded the update that way thinking there may have been a problem doing it wirelessly the first time. I've read some other problems with battery life but wonder if anyone else is experiencing these "crashes" and black screnes that reset to the home screen. I'm afraid to take it back into the Verizon dealer because of course, although I purchased the new phone just 5 months ago, my 30 day Verizon warranty is done and they didn't offer or sign me up to any Apple warranty, just tried to sell me a bullfrog plan that I couldn't afford. I'm afraid I'm out of luck with fixing this or getting a new phone, I just wish I could downgrade to what I had before. Of course, other friends are not having any problems at all, just my luck!

Unfortunately, you can't downgrade and will have to hope that Apple releases a patch soon to fix some of the bugs, although I upgraded with no problems at all.

How do I know if my drive is dead?

I have a pioneer dvr-112D and it has stopped reading/writing CD-R, writing DVD. It can only read dvd.
It trys to spin the cds but then ejects the disc.
How do I know if it's completely dead?

The Archive and Install, is a reinstall of your OS without loosing your user items (no reformatting of the hard drive).

If you do so, make sure you select "preserve user settings".
One more question- did the drive work BEFORE the update to 10.4.9? The reason why I ask, is there were many problems, of all kinds, but many related to sudden "death" of combo drives, al occurring after the 10.4.9 update.
The solutions were-
1- Reinstall (Archive and Install) of the OS X, then update from "Combo" updates downloaded from Apple download site;
2- Reapply the update only (no reinstall of the OS X), using the Combo updater downloaded from the Apple download site;
3- Downgrading, or, moving back to 10.4.8, or the last version of the OS X before the problem occurred.
Without doing the A&I, you could try the reapplication of the update:

When updating, it is best to do so from a downloaded copy- not by automatic update.
Recommended update proceedure, after downloading the update:
1-Repair hard drive and permissions (using Disk Utility)
2-Clean caches and log files (use Cocktail, Tiger Cache Cleaner, or manually with Terminal)
3-Restart, and boot in Safe Mode (hold Shift key on startup, until spinning gear appears)
4-Run the Update only, with no other applications open
If the drive had problems before the 10.4.9 update, it may be safe to assume the demise of the drive (unlucky).

KT6V 7021 - OnBoard NIC "dead" after BIOS 2.00 update ... any thoughts?

Just flashed KT6V BIOS 2.00 and now my onboard nic suddenly stopped working.
The network adapter gets recognized by Windows as usual, but although I do get a dhcp lease from my server I'm unable to connect to any share on it. It's also impossible to surf the web or to simply ping any local/remote host. If I try to connect to the system from any other workstation on the lan it doesn't work either.
The network status only shows a great amount of sent packages - caused by AVAST! as it tries to look for an update on boot - but only "0" received.
I flashed the BIOS from the emergency diskette and did a CMOS clear (Jumper) afterwards. And yes, I did disconnect my PSU from the wall socket.
Since I need network access to the system I tried stepping back to BIOS 1.90 but with no avail - the onboard nic doesn't receive a single paket after it has got it's dhcp lease.
Any clue what might be wrong and how I'm able to get my nic back to work?

I can't think of any reason either, however, the nic went dead after updating to BIOS v2.00. I assume that there must be some kind of "network code" inside the bios which has to do with the onboard nic - otherwise I'm unable to explain why the MAC address suddenly changed to "11:22:33:44:55:66". If I would only have a clue on how to access and/or flash the nic ... ???

Nope, there is no question or exclamation mark on the network card in the device manager. Windows thinks the card is working, but in reality it isn't. As already stated: No traffic from/to the network.

Trying to regain external display/upgrade or downgrade os?

I just got Pearl Flip 8220 2 days ago. I must have goofed when trying to remove things I don't need & I lost the external display. I read posts saying upgrade/downgrade then upgrade os, but I need to know exactly how. In DM I went to app loader and nothing shows that I took off, just the games, etc that I still have on phone. I did check for update, but it says I am up to date. Phone says it is v4.6.0.180. DM says it is v4.6.0.19, so I gues DM updated. I am LOST. Please help.

Nice long story, but the short version would be better. Is this drive now in the external enclosure? If so connect it to one of your computers and try the following:
Extended Hard Drive Preparation
1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder. If you need to reformat your startup volume, then you must boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger or Leopard.)
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (only required for Intel Macs) then click on the OK button. Set the number of partitions from the dropdown menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the volume(s) mount on the Desktop.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
If the drive is not accessible in Disk Utility or is not visible in Disk Utility then either the drive is dead or your enclosure is dead, or you have a defective cable.

Dead Lumia 800 - same as others here

Well.. I was about to send my Lumia 800 back to the suppplier because of a faulty compass and then the phone dies on me.
It behaved exactly like others have described in other threads here...
The phone was hooked up to my laptop charging next to my bed. In the morning it vibrated. I looked at it and it said goodbye. I took it off the lead and turned it on. It came back just long enough to show the battery with the tiny red bit at the bottom and then the Nokia logo.. that then slid off to the left and the phone went dead.
I've tried everything to get it running again. Warmed it, plugged in-out many many times, pressed every key combo endlessly.
I had to finally go in for the kill, lose all my photos (ARGHH!!!! angry about that!!) and attempt to trigger a hard reset. That also failed.. nothing will get this thing going.
So I've sent it back to expansys and hopefully they'll dispose of it in a proper manner as it has all my personal info on it. And then send me a new one.
Love the phone, but what a pain this has been.
Dunno what can be done,. but obviously the design is problematic.

I know the feeling, hopefully the lumia 900 doesn't have the same problems. My touch screen failed on my 800. I did a phone erase through the windowsphone.com website and it still wouldn't work the same way. It's been shipped to the warranty company to get fixed or replaced. I've downgraded to my old nokia N72, that I've had since 2005, suprised that thing is still going strong. I guess it's true what they say w/ 1st gen items, wait till they come out w/ a 2nd gen. They always learn from the 1st and fix the bugs @ the 2nd attempt of a product.

Audi 2005 Car Interface - How to Downgrade Touch to 2.2.1

I have a newly installed car interface in an old (2005) Audi. This box is the only one compatible with my Audi Symphony sound system - the ones in new cars are problem free, I understand, but buying a new car for my iTouch seems like a radical solution...
Anyway, my Touch 2G iOS 3.0 plays back fine, but doesn't charge. Turning the radio off doesn't turn off the iTouch, so, if I forget to manually shut down (which I do every day) the battery is dead after work.
I recently borrowed an iTouch 2G iOS 2.2.1, identical to mine in every way except for the older version of iOS. Low and behold, the radio "on-off" controls the iTouch under 2.2.1!
I don't have apps, I don't use the iTouch for anything except my long commute. Downgrading to 2.2.1 would be a perfect solution for me.
Does anyone know how to do this?

My guess is that Apple doesn't offer the 7.1 installer online b/c they want to promote users to move up to Tiger. That's reasonable from a marketing and software development perspective, but for ProTools users, that's not yet a viable option. I thought I could get the 7.1 installer from the Apple site, but it's only the updater & it requires a previous install of 7.1.
Also, I'm making an assumption that my 7.2 authorization will allow me to run 7.1, but I don't know if that's really the case.
It should be easier to upgrade from Platinum to any later version - i.e. one that actually works in my situation.

7500 Prism - Totally Dead. Need some help badly...

Heya! I've had my 7500 Prism for a very long time and the only bad thing about it was that it sometimes used to freeze when playing a video. However, this bug got annoying enough to make me made the snap decision to update my firmware version. So far, so good, but there were no newer versions for my Product Code, so I changed it and updated. Unfortunately, I lost my native language menu in the process (should have known better), and I decided to downgrade. At this point, something during the downgrade went wrong and now my phone is totally dead. It won't boot and it won't even charge. Something like "Charger not supported" comes up and I am using the original charger. When it had enough battery, it went as far as showing the Nokia logo and than turned off on itself. I have tried to fix it by restoring the original version, but the computer can't pick it up fast enough before it goes off again and so all the programs I've tried can't detect the phone. Since I am laical in this area, I've figured someone from the forums with much more knowledge than myself could help me out So, I am open to suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Problem:
All downloaded apps are dead, they initiate but return you right away to the home screen.
ipod music is missing.
The problem is only fixed by doing a restore.
This issue might be associated with the 2.0.1 update.
The problem usually starts after a new app is downloaded.

...and a few more long ones for good measure. To my mind the consensus is iTunes 7.7.1 broke something with DRM and reverting to iTunes 7.7 might solve it until Apple fixes the problem. However there are those that disagree. Much speculation.
