Downgrading a DC running Server 2012 R2 to Server 2008 R2

This is NOT a licensing question. All I see when searching this question are answers about licensing. I already have the licensing. My question is, is it possible to downgrade a domain controller that is running Server 2012 R2 to Server 2008 R2? I mistakingly
raised the functional level of my domain from server 2003 to 2012 R2 before upgrading my exchange server running 2003 and now I have no way to migrate my exchange server. Ideally, I would like to just downgrade the DC to Server 2008 R2 and upgrade everything
else to that level as well, including Exchange Server 2010. Any relevant input would be greatly appreciated.

here you go Exchange 2010 Sp3 RU5 .....

  • Upgrade Virtual machine running server 2008 r2 to server 2012 r2.......

    Hi Everyone.........
I have virtual Server machine Current Running Server 2008 r2 data-center, and try to upgrade server 2012 r2 data-center but unfortunately not Upgrade and Showing Errors like below....
how to upgrade virtual server machine in server 2012 r2, Please help me for this Issue .

I recommend doing a fresh install of Server 2012 R2 on the bare metal, enable the Hyper-V role and migrate the VMs over using these steps:
    Shutdown the VMs on the current 2008 or 2008 R2 Hyper-V host(s)
In Hyper-V Manager, delete all snapshots and saved states of all VMs.
Set all the VM vNICs to use static MAC
    Export each VM
On the new 2012 R2 Hyper-V server, import the VMs

  • Best practices to share 4 printers on small network running Server 2008 R2 Standard (service pack 1)

    Hello,
I'm a new IT admin at a small company (10-12 PCs running Windows 7 or 8) which has 4 printers. I'd like to install the printers either connected to the server or as wireless printers (1 is old enough to require
a USB connection to a PC, no network capability), such that every PC has access to each printer.
Don't worry about the USB printer - I know it's not the best way to share a printer, but it's not a critical printer; I just want it available when its PC is on.
I've read a lot about the best way to set up printers, including stuff about group policy and print server, but I am not a network administrator, and I don't really understand any of it. I'd just like to install
the drivers on the server or something, and then share them. Right now all the printers do something a little different: one is on a WSD port, two has a little "shared" icon, one has the icon but also a "network" icon... it's very confusing.
Can anyone help me with a basic setup that I can do for each printer?
p.s. they all have a reserved IP address.
    Thanks,
    Laura

may need to set print server... maybe helpful.

  • Has anybody had an issue with System State Backups on a Dell PowerEdge R510 Server running Server 2008 R2?

    Hi,
We have recently had issues running system state backups on our 2008 R2 Domain Controllers.  They are running on Dell PowerEdge R510 Physical Hardware.  Whenever you initiate a system state backup,  the Domain Controller becomes unresponsive
forcing us to physically reboot it.   Nothing in the Event logs or the Dell Open Management Hardware Software indicates issues with Phyiscal disks but we can always replicate the issue by starting the system state backup.
The system state backup is initialted as a batch file that runs as a scheduled task.   the commands run are as follows:
WBADMIN START SYSTEMSTATEBACKUP -backupTarget:[drive letter] -quiet
We have 4 Domain Controllers with identical disk configurations.  When the DCs were setup I confirmed the system state backups were working but the issue started occuring sometime in Dec 2014.  We are going to run the Dell Hardware Update Utility
to update the RAID, BIOS, Firmware updates but Has anyone experienced a similar issue that may have been triggerd by a Microsoft Patch?
    Thanks,
    Kevin C.
    kconway@fnalgov

    Hi Kevin,
This issue could be due to the Mountmgr.sys driver incorrectly maintains a global mutex. This behavior causes a deadlock situation in the Mountmgr.sys driver.
Please install the hotfix in the article below to resolve the issue:
A computer stops responding because of a deadlock situation in the Mountmgr.sys driver in running Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2

  • Adding sites to compatibility mode and trusted sites, IE10 and Server 2008

We're having a challenge with configuring a GPO to add several sites to Compatibility View Settings as well as adding several others (the same sites, plus some others) to Trusted Sites.  We are currently running VMware's Persona Management/floating
pools (thin provisioned linked clones), with the appdata folder redirected to the Persona server.  Clients are running IE10, DCs are running Server 2008 R2 with IE8.
gpresult/r shows the GPO listed under Applied GPOs on the User Settings side (and all the settings are user settings); however, compatibility and trusted sites settings do not apply.
From prior research on the topic, I seem to recall that I needed to install the IE10 IEAK; however, I cannot install that without having IE10 installed first, and I cannot install IE10 without installing the pre-requisite elements, which I cannot install
(either through Windows Update or the IE10 standalone installer).  When the IE10 install fails, it refers me to a Microsoft KB article that won't open.  If I open the article on a workstation PC, I find links to five separate prerequisite files.
If I download all five files and attempt to install them, they say they're not applicable to my computer.  I can't post links in this article yet (account hasn't been verified), but a Google search for "MS KB 2818833" leads to the page with
    the links.
    64-bit Server 2008 R2.
    Any thoughts?

    Hi,
Before going further, how did we configure the settings? Since Windows 8, the IEM settings have been deprecated.  As a result, IEM settings won't apply to IE10 or above. However, in this situation, we should be able to use administrative templates
to configure the settings we want.

------another wan connection from 2nd branch office to head office.
both branch offices will join the domain in head office.
    Thankssssss

    Hi,
You can deploy the site-to-site VPN, then all your branch office can access your head office as in the head office.

  • No HCK test for ndis filter driver in server 2008 R2

I am running HCK 2.1 to test my ndis filter driver.
    1. The testing client is running server 2008 R2.
    2. The driver is built for win7 x64 with vs 2012.
However, there is no test avaiable in the HCK console. Even I choose "Add Features" in "devices and printers" or "software devices", I still can not find the proper tests. But
if I build the driver for win8 x64 and run the tests in server 2012, the "ndis 6.5 logo test" shows up.
    Now I do need a signature for win7 and 2008 R2.
Does anyone know how to add "ndis logo test" for win7 in HCK 2.1?

    anyone can help?

  • Server 2008. How do I create a task to turn the server on at a specific time?

    I'm running Server 2008 R2 Standard, SP1.
The electricity is scheduled to be turned off in my building for a couple hours over night.
I can shut the server down, but was wondering if there was a way to 'schedule' my server to turn itself on at a specific time the following morning?
    Thank you

    Hi,
Windows cannot turn itself on. it can resume sleep, but even then relies on the underlying hardware to do the boot.
i would recommend checking whether the BIOS (or EFi for that matter) supports scheduled boots
Alternatively, you can check BIOS whether you can configure the powerstate the computer needs to be in after power is restored; most computers do support that.

  • Server 2008 Pinter install error OPERATION COULD NOT BE COMPLETED (error 0x900f0214)

I downloaded the HP Universal printer driver for a LaserJet 4250dn network printer to our server running SERVER 2008 SP2.
I dowloaded the zipped executable files for both the PCL5 and PCL6 drivers to the desktop and ran the EXE to unzip the files. When I tried to run the INSTALL.EXE file (as an ADMINISTRATOR) for BOTH drivers, the following occurs:
    Answer YES to EULA
Select TRADITIONAL MODE (or DYNAMIC MODE - it doesn't matter - neither one works)
    Click INSTALL
Immediately I get the error OPERATION COULD NOT BE COMPLETED (error 0x900f0214)
    Click OK
    Click FINISH
This happens with both the PCL5 & PCL6 driver installations.
I activated FILE SHARING, PRINTER SHARING, and NETWORK DISCOVERY but did not solve the problem.
I was logged in as the Domain Administrator and the Local Admin also.
    Any suggestions?

  • Server 2008 R2 Windows Server Backup. "Error in backup of Hyper-V.vhd during read: Error [0x80070001] Incorrect function.

    Hello,
We are currently using Windows Server Backup to backup three Hyper-V guests running on a Windows 2008 R2 host.  Two guests are running Server 2008 R2 and one is running Windows 7.  I have the backups going to a dedicated external disk drive.
WSB backs up the two 2008 R2 Hyper-V guests just fine.  However, when attempting to backup the Windows 7 Hyper-V guest, I receive the following error:
Error in backup of <Windows 7.vhd> during read: Error [0x80070001] Incorrect function.
I ran a "vssadmin list writers" and all the VSS writers showed "Stable" with no errors.  I have plenty of space on the external drive as well.  I've read this article:
https://support.microsoft.com/kb/973455?wa=wsignin1.0#workaroundissue12 except that doesn't seem to be what I'm experiencing here.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

    Hi,
As the other 2 guests could be backed up correctly, the issue should not be the Windows Server Backup feature.
First please refer to this article:
Backing Up and Restoring Virtual Machines
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd405549(v=vs.85).aspx
Please check if all following requirements are met. Specifically please check if Integration Service is installed.
Backup (volume snapshot) Integration Service is installed and running in the child VM. The service name is "Hyper-V Volume Shadow Copy Requestor".
Windows 2000:  Backup Integration Service is not supported.
The child VM must be in the running state.
The Snapshot File Location for the VM is set to be the same volume in the host operating system as the VHD files for the VM.
All volumes in the child VM are basic disks and there are no dynamic disks.
All disks in the child VM must use a file system that supports snapshots (for example, NTFS).

  • Error 0x800f024b installing x86 driver on Windows Server 2008

When attempting to install updated versions of my Lexmark Universal v2 PS3 x86 drivers on 2 of my Windows 2008 clustered print servers, I am receiving the following error screen:  "Unable to install Lexmark Universal Universal v2 PS3,
Type 3 - User Mode, x86 driver.  Operation could not be completed (error 0x800f024b)".  I have 55 other Windows Server 2008 file and print servers that I have not had any issues doing this upgrade to.  It only happens on my 2 clustered
    print servers.

I believe the issue is not installing the driver in the spooler context but adding the driver to the driverstore.  On a cluster the driver is added remotely (yes even on the active node) and the addition to the driverstore also travels the remote install
path.   There was some issue we fixed for Lexmark due to some long string or something in this context but I can't find the information.
Are you running Server 2008 or 2008R2?

  • WPA2-Enterprise Radius Authentication Windows Server 2008 R2

    Hello,
I have tried a few online tutorials for providing secure wireless access.  I currently have a server running Server 2008 R2 that has RRAS, NAP, and AD CS installed on it.  My goal is to create a wireless SSID that utilizes WPA2-Entperise for users
to connect.  Their AD credentials would need to belong to my "Wireless Users" group.  I have seen tutorials that involved certificates, and some tutorials that simply added the RADIUS clients along with the network/connection policies,
and then added the settings to the router.  When I've tried both ways, the wireless network never connects to the network.  If I un-check the "Use Windows login credentials" a username/password field pops up.  I enter the credentials
(tried both username and domain\username) of an account that is part of "Wireless Users".  When I hit OK it sits for a few moments, and then pops back up again.  When I do check "Use Windows login credentials" it says it can't
    connect.
I have tried different firmware on the router, and I know the router is not the issue.  This server is joined to my domain controller.  It feels like the NAP server is not reaching the domain to authenticate credentials.  Am I doing anything
wrong that I should be made aware of?  In NAP if I right click the server, the "register in active directory" is greyed out, which I assume is because it's already joined to the domain.
I appreciate any help you can provide.
    -Ken

I've searched in "Event Viewer" on the NPS server, and came across an interesting error.  I have Google'd the error, and there are only a select few articles about it.  If I try to connect, often times I will get two information events:

To change the Network Access Permission setting to either Allow access or Control access through NPS Network Policy, obtain the properties of the user account in Active Directory Users and Computers, click the Dial-in tab, and change Network Access Permission.
Clearly, when I try to connect, it's completely bypassing the network policy I created, but going to the "Connections to other access servers", which by default denys access.  I've tried everything....removed and re-added the security policy...added
2 network policies for wireless.  Does anyone know why the network policy I create for wireless is not being recognized?

  • Error: Registering remote JRun instance in CF9/Windows Server 2008

    Hello,
We are upgrading our dev/qa/uat environments to a new set of servers (2). CF9.01 with the latest patches is installed fresh on both servers, which are running Server 2008/IIS7. I created jrun instance dev01 and dev02 on each server, respectively. The plan was to let the CISCO load balancer manage the load between the two boxes, and to then share JRun sessions between the boxes so that we could failover anytime during the day if need be. Whenever I try to register a remote instance I get the following error:

Now, from either of the 2008 servers I CAN register a remote JRun instance that resides on a Server 2003 box. If I go to the Server 2003 box and try to register an instance from either one of the 2008 servers I get the same error as above, so it is definitely specific to Windows 2008 server.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I really don't want to think about storing sessions in a db but want to have that high availability/flexibility at anytime.
    Regards,
    Gary

The BSOD is probably caused by teefer.sys driver. Based on searches, I found that it belongs to Sygate firewall driver system driver. So, either you update it or you remove this software. You can also contact its vendor/developer for assistance.
