Downgrading Adobe Reader X to 9.3

Hi,
I have some terminalservers in which we upgraded Adobe Reader to version 10.0.1. And it turns out we need to downgrade this due to some application compatibility.
After uninstalling of Adobe Reader X, reboot and install of the 9.3 version, I get the following error message: "Setup has detected that you already have a more functional product installed. Setup now terminates."
Has anyone experienced this before, and know how to solve this? I've tried looking for some manual uninstall guides with no success.

Try this:

  • Why can't I open any pdf files with any version of Adobe Reader after I upgraded?

Upgraded Adobe Reader not too long ago and after then it stopped opening pdf files. I had an old version of Adobe Acrobat and that opened the file no problem. I tried to downgrade Adobe Reader, but that didn't fix the problem.
Just tried to open Adobe Reader by itself without any files and it still crashed.
    FYI – I’m using Windows 7 (Microsoft 2013)

It's not a good idea to have both Acrobat and Reader unless they're both of the same version number (like X or XI). Such a situation can cause all kinds of conflicts and crashes, as you've seen. Also, if you have an old version of Acrobat it's might not be compatible with your OS any more.

  • Adobe Reader X with Outlook 2010 preview pane

    Hi all,
We have an Windows 2003 32bits Terminal Server with Outlook 2010 installed. We also use Adobe Reader X. But the preview pane gives us an error:
We tried re-installing the reader, but that didnt helped. I know there where some issues with 64bit version, but i cannot find a fix for this situation. Is this a known bug?
    Thanks.

I downgraded Adobe Reader to version 9.4 and now its working. Wont upgrade to X then

  • Problem opening Form based PDF via Safari browser with Adobe Reader 9.3 on MAC

    Hi,
I'm mentioning below the problem that we are facing when we open a form based PDF created using a licensed version of Adobe Livecycle Designer ES (Version 8.2.1.4029.1.523496) on a MAC machine through a Safari Browser.
We tested this PDF form on a windows machine and the PDF opens in an IE browser via the latest Adobe reader 9.3 without any problem. I then received complaints by our clients that they were unable to open the same PDF on their Safari browser on a MAC machine, I tried to resolve the problem by downloading the latest version of Adobe Reader 9.3 for MAC but noticed that the Safari browser window would just keep refreshing the page without displaying the PDF at all. I then uninstalled the Adobe Reader 9.3 version and downloaded and installed an older version i.e., Abobe Reader 8.2 version for MAC and noticed that the PDF document successfully opened in the Safari browser. My question is why does a form based PDF work with an older version of Adobe Reader for MAC and not with the latest version? Our clients are not comfortable with the fact that we are refraining them from upgrading to the latest version of Adobe Reader for MAC and that they would have to downgrade their existing Adobe Reader 9.3 to a lower version Adobe Reader 8.2 in order for the PDF forms to work when it should be the other way around.
Is there any fix or a patch that is currently being worked on that would resolve this issue in the latest Adobe Reader for MAC? If yes then when would it be ready? This issue is quite critical for our business and would appreciate it if this would be looked into with high priority.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Sheikh Huraiz Ahmed.

That suggestion makes sense and likely works, but only if the user is on a machine that will allow them to use Reader. I'm sending this out to a lot of teachers, who are using machines either at school, or are school-issued machines, and they don't have the admin privileges to install software-- even Reader.
so my problem is, if they are stuck on a machine without Reader, and without the possibility of having Reader... it's just not going to work because Preview can't handle these functions.
And, since that is not an acceptable answer with what I'm trying to do... I will find another way to create/submit forms. I think there are some online possibilities I will have to make work.
    very, very disappointing and frustrating.

  • We downloaded Adobe Reader XI and our PC no longer works properly.

We run Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 3, and use Internet Explorer 8.  We once were running a Trend Micro AntiVirus that seemed capable of producing some issues, but we believe it to be disabled.  Before downloading Reader XI, we were able to easily use PDF files in many ways.  When there was a web site we were using that offered us a look at a document, such as a statement, or a blank state government report form, we could click on it, and the pdf would pop up in a window associated with Explorer, where we could view it, and then decide whether to print it.  We can no longer do that.  We still can use some pdf's, but not pdf's that are made available to us via the Internet in that fashion.  A few weeks ago, upon startup, we saw a message on our desktop that we ought to download the latest Adobe Reader. We downloaded Adobe Reader XI. The problem immediately started. We uninstalled Reader XI. We reinstalled. The problem persisted immediately upon reinstall.  In between the uninstall and reinstall, we looked at our system attempting to find an older version of Reader we could reinstall in preference to XI, but we saw nothing under our Control Panel Install/Uninstall programs, and so nothing on our hard drive.  Now, when we attempt to click on a "View" hyperlink on many websites, the pop up window, that would have at one time showed us the document or pdf file, pops up blank, turns dark gray, and stays inert for 2 or 3 minutes, followed by the appearance of the error message stating that we have a problem with our programming, or, if the Reader is already running, shut it, and try again.  The reader is not already running.  We have tried rebooting and re-trying to view, but we get the same error message.  We have some old pdf's stored on our hard drive.  We can double click the file names and open and read and print the files in Reader XI.  We can also add new pdf's to our hard drive if they arrive as attachments to e-mails; or, if at a web site offering a view of a document we need, if the web site offers also an ALTERNATE hyperlink by which we may DOWNLOAD the file, then, we can get the file via download, and open it.  The Reader XI is not inoperable.  It will not work with various websites in Explorer 8 that offers a VIEW hyperlink rather than a DOWNLOAD hyperlink.  What can we do? If we download Google Chrome, will it work?

Internet Explorer is, as we in the web design world call it, "the problem child" of browsers. It seems as the rest of the world embraces HTML 5 and CSS 3, Microsoft has been throwing a tantrum and hoping everyone will go back to 1998 standards... "It ain't gonna happen."
Given that the view/download worked prior to installing the newest Reader, it's probably a matter of IE not working with the latest plugin. Since XP (which is just ten short months away from being "sunsetted" by Microsoft) won't work with IE9 or IE10, you're stuck with 8, and I'd recommend a "downgrade" to an older build, like 10 or even 9.
First, you'll want to run the Adobe Cleaner to remove all traces of Reader XI.
Then download the offline installer for 10 and reinstall.

  • Adobe reader XI 11.0.05,running in Win 7 Pro 64-bit

I have the black X upper left corner. When access a web sit , for example WWW.SSA.GOV and click in forms , then open a pdf link , a blank screen shows with a black x only. I tried many options to fix this problem but not success. If I try to open the same document in google chrome it opens perfect. So my problem is with IE, so Ireset the IE and no fix. I downgrade to IE10 , no fix. I downgrade to IE8 and installed  Adobe reader 9.5 and the web document open perfect. I don't want to leave this computer with IE8 and AR 9.5 ,I want to work IE11 with AR XI 11.0.05 . Please some suggestions? Just as information I tried disabling ActiveX filtering but no fix. Please I need help. Thank you

Thank you Pat Willener. This Microsoft solution really worked for IE11 (I did manually). Now I have Win 7 Pro 64-bit with IE11 and AR 11.0.5 running perfect. Thanks again to you and I am glad that I joined this forum.

  • Adobe Reader 9.5 - IE9 32 bit Red X on certain PDF'S?

Hello all. On a particular site I use, I can access and open some PDF's, but there are some that appear to combine an FDF and PDF "flat file" on the fly, and now when I click these links, I get a red x in my window instead of the pdf. I downgraded to Adobe Reader 9.5 (windows 7, from Adobe 11) thinking that might help, but after a remove/re-install, the issue remains.
If I disable the browser helper in order to try and force Adobe to open instead of displaying the PDF in browser, I get a little placeholder image instead of the red x, but no PDF.
Here is the kicker...in IE64 bit, the pdf link opens the PDF just fine. Chrome does too. I must use 32 bit IE for the site however, so I was hoping to find a fix. I tried repairing Adobe, I tried running with no add-ons in the browser...I think I have tried all of the basic stuff listed here, but I still cannot seem to open the PDF.
I may look for a system restore point soon and see if this helps, but I figured I would ask here if anyone had an idea why 32bit would not work but 64 bit and Chrome would.

    slowride55 wrote:
...in IE64 bit, the pdf link opens the PDF just fine.
That makes no sense, as the Adobe Reader add-on is 32-bit only.  I cannot view any PDFs on 64-bit browsers with the Adobe Reader plugin.
Do you have any alternate PDF viewer installed?

  • Problem Filling a form in Adobe Reader X

Recently, I've been getting error messages when I try to view a PDF file in Internet Explorer 9. I decided to uninstall Adobe Reader X (10.1.3) and reinstalled it, and seems to be working now.
Today, I was trying to fill in some tax-related forms and a form for school, which are both "fillable" pdf forms. I know that they are fillable, because I have already filled them the same way (via Adobe Reader X) in the past. When I try to fill them now, I see the purple message bar that says "Please fill out the following form. You cannot save data typed into this form. Please print your completed form if you would like a copy for your records". I have also tried to click on the "Highlight Existing Fields" button, but this doens't seem to work (and the fillable fields are not highlighted in purple).
I am able to click each field and see a black boarder around the selected field. Sometimes, I also see the indicator "I" but when I begin to type, nothing that I type appears in the field. I even try to use the "Add text" feature under the "sign" tab on the right-hand side of the window, the options to "Add Text", "Place Signature" and "Done Signing" are greyed out and cannot be clicked.
What do I do? I have already tried uninistalling and re-installing Adobe Reader X, but have had no luck. Is there any way to downgrade to Adobe Reader X (10.1.2) in case that version works better?
    Thanks

PDF files have to be specially enabled for you to save the contents. It appears the old version of these files had this capability, but the new version does not. Without Acrobat you will be unable to save the files. If these are truly government files, you can try going to the government's website and see if you can download a copy that will allow you to save the form field data.

  • Adobe Reader error with SAP interactive form in Web dynpro ABAP

    Hi,
We are having a strange intermittent problem with Adobe Reader. When we try to open PDF files from SAP Frontend we get an error pop-up. The pop-up does not have any text. The title of the pop-up has "Adobe Reader". There is a blue question mark and an OK button. The form is inserted into Web Dynpro ABAP page. This web dynpro application is executed in SAP GUI by this program:

    Adobe Reader version is 9.1.2
Is there any solution for this?
    Many thanks for answer.

    Jiri,
The reason why I thought downgrading would help is because Reader 9 and above is probably not fully supported by SAP yet.
You can maybe open an OSS and see if Adobe 9 is fully supported or not.

  • Problem with Adobe Reader Plugin

I have a website we access for employee services. I have one PC that keeps giving an error saying the AR plugin is not installed. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Reader several times now, reset IE9 to defaults and cleared the cache. The plugin list does not show Reader installed. Can't figure out what the problem is.

    Hi,
I would suggest you to use the latest version of Internet Explorer.
If that is not possible, you may try downgrading the Adobe Reader; by installing the previous version.

  • Problem with Adobe Reader 9.1.3/Firefox plugin

After applying the Reader 9.1.3 update on our Windows XP computers (using Firefox 3.5.2), some PDFs downloaded will not load properly using the web browser plugin.  An example is at
    http://apply07.grants.gov/apply/opportunities/packages/oppONRBAA09-029-cfda12.300-cidONRBA A09-029.pdf
Saving this PDF to disk and opening directly with Reader 9.1.3, Acrobat 9.1.3 or Acrobat 8.1.3 seems to work fine.  Opening the document using Internet Explorer 7 with the Reader plugin enabled also seems to work fine.
I do not have information on how these PDF files are generated.  Tech support staff at grants.gov suggested to downgrade to Adobe Reader 9.1.2 to get around this particular issue.
If you know of a way to get around this issue with any sort of system configuration on our end (registry key settings, etc.), please let me know.

I have just clicked on the link above (Windows XP-SP3, Firefox 3.5.2, Adobe Reader 9.1.3), and it appears to display exactly the same as the downloaded file in Adobe Reader.  I cannot see any difference.
My version of Adobe Reader was installed with the download that does not contain Adobe AIR & Acrobat.com: http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/9.x/9.1/enu/AdbeRdr910_en_US.exe, then upgraded to 9.1.1, 9.1.2, 9.1.3 - I don't know if this would make a difference.

  • Compatability Problem with Adobe Reader XI

Last week I downloaded the most recent upgrade to Adobe Reader Xi and now cannot open dpf files sent to me.  Troubleshooter posts problem as compatability with application. I repaired ther Acobe Reader application through my Control File without any reesolution to the problem. My system is Windows 7. Should I downgrade to a lower version of Adobe Reader??.   .

Thank you for the quick response!  What I meant to say is that the I am now unable to open the pdf document attachment I receive with incoming e-mails. My e-mail is Windows Live Mail. When an incoming item contains an attachment the right hand “date” column shows a paper-clip image. I am able to open the e-mail itself.  I am then given another icon to activate in order to view the attachment. When I indicate “open” I am given an alert asking if I really wish to open the attachment (e.g., “Do I trust the sender?”)  Normally when I indicate “Yes” the attachment opens and I am able to view the document and its individual pages. However, since downloading the latest Adobe update, the attached document no longer opens. Instead I am given only a “blue screen”—no warning message or repair instructions.  (Incidentally, on the advice of a friend, I have uninstalled Adobe and then reinstalled it with no effect on the problem). Would appreciate any ideas on the problem. Income tax time is coming and pdf can be very essential.

Right. After almost a day I finally sorted the problem.
Adobe Reader worked under the spare Admin account so I deleted that in case it was confusing the installer.  I then rerpaired persmissions.  I then re-installed Reader.  Same problem "Internal Error"!!
So, I re-created another Admin account and opened Reader.  No problem.  After clicking accept licence it opened up with a question to make default or not.  After this I hunted through every folder and found that Under 'User/Librarary/Application Support/Adobe' there was an Acrobat folder.  When I checked the account I normally use there wasn't, and never was??  So I copied pasted a copy of the Acrobat folder into the same location on the non working account and all is fine.
Problem for me is, why did this happen?  I wasted almost a day on this. Is it a problem with the installer, the Macbook or Permissions.  I checked permissions and they are identical to those on the spare Admin account.  So why did the installer not create the Acrobat folder on the main account from where it was installed?  Reason it concerns me is with regard to updates.  Will they also screw up?
I'll try to explore further as times goes on but for now I have to say I've had enough of Acrobat and Lion for one day.  "It just works".  Really???

  • Strange FONT in Adobe Reader 9 with Windows 7

If a pdf was made from a word document or anything other than a scan the font is very strange, not default arial (see attached picture).  I had this problem in reader X adn downgraded adn still have the problem.  WHen this document is opened in gogle docs or on another computer the font is arial.  Thanks for your help.

I have the same issue in multiple documents on Windows 7 with Adobe Reader X 10.1.0.  Multiple others on my team can open the same files and do not have the issue.  I have done a terse check and we have similar installed programs, etc.
Since I am not creating the documents, I have no control over how they are created.  Also, I seem to have the issue on my computer and others do not.
Is there any way to troubleshoot font substitutions?  Is there any way to verify fonts?  Certainly I can see some fonts are not embedded in a sample I have, but I cannot see any way to know what font was specified and which was picked.  If I could find out that, I may delete the strangely spaced one so a better choice is picked.  It picks this odd font for what should be Arial...I think...but I am not sure. On this one sample doc I was able to get the creator to embed all fonts and it looks correct on my machine.  However the previous version without embedded fonts shows like this:
Here is what it should look like:
Both version look fine on other machines.
Properties on bad font substitution version (I expect the circled are the issue):
    Any help would be appreciated.
