Downgrading firefox

it possible to downgrade from firefox 10.0.2 to version 4 or 3.6.3?

Yes that is possible. It is also advisable to upgrade to the current version which is Firefox 12 at the moment.
If you have a particular reason or need for an earlier version if you explain that maybe there is a better alternative solution.
Using outdated insecure versions of firefox is not recommended as it puts your personal data and system at an increased risk. Newer versions are likely to include security fixes, and the release of the new version with a fix is likely to itself publicise any security holes.
* See installing previous versions of firefox
Previous versions may be employed for various reasons including for compatibility studies, and may be relatively safe if used in any of the following situations
*on a Virtual Machine,
* behind a sophisticated firewall on a private intranet
* where procedures for bare metal backup exist

• [Solved]Downgrade Firefox to 3.5.7. Getting a 'Couldn't load XPCOM'.

Hi!
I need to downgrade Firefox to 3.5.x from 3.6.2 in order to try to get Vmware console plugin to work. There is an issue with Firefox 3.6 and the Vmware console plugin. http://communities.vmware.com/thread/252218
I have downgraded Firefox to 3.5.7, xulrunner to 1.9.1.7 and nss to 3.12.4.
But when i try to run Firefox I get an error:
$ firefox
Couldn't load XPCOM.
I have also tried to remove the ~/.mozilla/firefox directory. No luck.
Does anyone know what might be wrong?

So I would need to find an older PKGBUILD for both Firefox and xulrunner?
Does anyone know where those might be found?
EDIT: I did find it in the wiki

• How do i downgrade firefox 5 to 4?

how do i downgrade firefox 5 to 4?

Hello,
If you wish to downgrade to Firefox 4.0.1, ensure that you have uninstalled Firefox 5.0 and any other version of Firefox you may have.
A download of 4.0.1 can be found [ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/4.0.1/win32/en-US/ here.]
edit: fixed link as there is no need for a random unofficial download site for any Firefox version.

• Tried to downgrade Firefox, now it crashes

Keep in mind I have dial up
I recently upgraded to the newest version of Firefox and everything was going nice until I realized it was going really slow. After an internet search on how to fix it, I decided to downgrade to version 2.0.0.1. (an installation file I still have on my computer) After installing this version Firefox crashed on startup, displaying a "firefox.exe has caused an error and must now close". So I did a system restore to the point right ebfore I downgraded. Firefo STILL crashes on startup (but this time gave me an option to report the crash, which I did.)
So I tried to go into Firefox safe mode and it wouldn't open at all (no crash message or anything.) Tried to open Firefox regularly and now won't open at all either.
How can I get Firefox working again?

Now it won't let me uninstall Fiefox..

• Compatibility with comcast - they sugget downgrading FIREFOX - need to fix the problem

I cannot get the ENTIRE EMAIL BOX on Comcast - they are telling me it is a compatibility issue w/FIREFOX and I should downgrade to a previous version. What is the problem?????????

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:
You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
*Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
*Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
*Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

• How can I get Facebook game pop-ups to appear without having to downgrade Firefox as I need version 6 for work?

When I try to send back a gift in a Facebook game, there should be a pop-up that appears to allow me to do this. However in the newest version of Firefox, I can not get these pop-ups to appear and I have to have version 6 to be able to work from home. So how do I fix this?

This might be because your settings are configured to block pop-ups. To fix this:
1. Go to: Firefox > Options > Content
2. Untick the 'Block popup windows' option
3. Click 'OK'

• I backed up my old profile from Windows XP to my new Windows 7 PC, but it seemed to downgrade Firefox

So my XP computer's power supply died a few weeks ago so I got a new computer. Just replaced the powersupply in the old PC to get my old files. I tried to back up my Firefox profile from my old computer to the new Windows 7 computer, which I've had running Firefox for about a week. When I loaded my backed up profile and restarted Firefox, it seems to have reverted to the style of the old Firefox, or at least the current version that was running on my XP computer. How can I keep my old profile, with the new look of Firefox that I've grown to love over the past week??

Thanks! That was way too easy... I feel so dumb now!

• What is the best way to downgrade Firefox on Mac OS X?

I am capable of figuring out a way to do it, but I am asking for the BEST way - meaning the method least likely to cause incompatibility with the OS, Add-ons, and other software. The reason is I do not like Firefox 6.
For those wanting to know where to download v3.6:
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

Just a note:  if you Option-drag the thumbnail to the Desktop you'll get the original file.  Regular dragging will get you the preview version or the edited version if it's been edited in Photos.

• Where do I get the BRITISH English version of Firefox 15.0.1 for a downgrade?

I want to downgrade Firefox to v15.0.1, but US English versions are the only old versions I an find. Where do I get old BRITISH English versions?

The reason is there is a bug in Tabmix plus that the developer isn't going to release until January. However, you can use the Beta version, which will work with Firefox 17 until the dev releases a full update. http://tmp.garyr.net/tab_mix_plus-dev-build.xpi. this is a much better solution than downgrading

• Firefox 19.02 freezes. Tried downgrading Flash to 10.3 but problem appears to be unrelated to Flash. Reinstalled Forefox 14.01 problem went away.

Latest version of Firefox freezes solid on load. 14.01 fixes the problem. Reinstalled 19.02 and problem reappeared. Disabling Norton Firewall temporarily did not fix the problem. Reinstalled 14.01 a second time and problem went away again. Running Win 8 on a Toshiba Satellite laptop.

Update: It WAS Flash related. I reinstalled Firefox 19.0.2. Both Flash 10.3 and 11.6 froze. I then uninstalled Flash. No problem. Reinstalled Flash 10.3, froze again. Downgraded Firefox to 14.01 again. Flash 10.3 runs with no problem. On my PC 14.01/Flash 10.3 is the workable solution, for now. Fix please.

• Firefox gets stuck after closing any window.

I have this problem that firefox always gets stuck for at least like 20 seconds each time when I close another firefox window. I usually have several firefox windows open at the same time. When I close one of them, the rest of them get stuck for seconds before they can do anything, sometimes crashed (not common). I notice that firefox crashing usually has to do with some firefox windows were running online video, like youtube or others. It can be any advertisement on any website that is in the form of moving pictures. But crashing is really not common. Just getting stuck every single time when I close one firefox window among others.
I thought it was because my computer is old but Internet Explorer doesn't have this problem on my computer. I even downgraded firefox to version 28 ( I used to have the latest, 36?) That did not solve the problem. I am running on windows 7. I would like to keep using firefox because it allows add-on so I don't want to switch to IE. Does anyone know what the problem is? Thanks.

I forgot to mention. This only happens to firefox. If I am running other programs and firefox at the same time, only firefox gets stuck.

• Videos keep downloading even after closing Firefox.

Hello, I just signed in because I have a weird issue, so this is my first post here:
Recently I noticed my internet connection suddenly was getting very slow, I thought it was some problem with my internet provider but the problem was getting very frequent. I use a program (Win7 gadget) that helps me monitor my internet traffic, access and usage, and I noticed all my bandwidth was being used even if I had all programs closed. A couple of days later I discovered that each time I opened a streaming video from any site (not just YouTube), the problem was there, so everytime I watch a video I have to wait for it to load completely, even if I close the tab or the browser.
I don't have the slightest idea how this problem started, I'm very careful about the software I install in my PC. I've searched all over the web trying to find a solution but to no avail, it seems a lot of other users have the same issue but with some variants: some people blame it on BitDefender, other people blame it to using other browsers, etc. but I haven't found a solution yet.
Now, watching videos is a big part of my internet experience, even YouTube is my homepage, and I sometimes like to watch very long videos (20+ min.), so you can tell this problem ruins a big part of my web usage. Let's say I open a video with a 3:00 minutes length, I watch like 20 seconds of it and then I decideo to close it, now I must wait the whole three minutes for the video to stop buffering to be able to watch another one (or to do anything web related for that matter) or surf the web at the pace of a snail until the video stops loading.
The solutions I've tried so far are:
Disabling all antivirus options in BitDefender 2012.
Disabling and enabling again the network adapter.
Uninstalling my monitoring programs (Windows 7 gadgets).
Updating Flash Player to the latest version.
Trying to tweak the various Flash Player options found in Control Panel (a.k.a. Global Settings).
Trying to tweak the Flash Player Settings found by right clicking on a video.
Another thing I noted is that if I try to find which program is accessing the internet with the Resource Monitor that comes with Windows 7, there's none. Let's say that I open a video, I check the Resource Monitor and there I can find Firefox is accessing internet as expected, then I close Firefox, the program dissappears from the Resource Monitor (again, as expected) but the bandwidth is still being accessed at full. I have a very slow connection (2 Mb), so you can tell how this becomes a problem for me.
I'm not sure how or when the problem started, and I'm reluctant to do a System Resore because there seems none of the programs affected have nothing to do with my issue, and I'd lose some other stuff I've configured on my PC and want to keep.
Well, that's all I have to say, thank you for reading and I really hope you can come with a solution, cya!
Here are my specs:
Windows 7, 64-bit
Firefox, ver. 17.0.1
Adobe Flash Player, ver. 11.5.502.135
(PS: While writing my specs, I was just wondering if it was a problem with Firefox, which updates quite frequently... go figure.)

What? No replies? Anyone?
Well, I just wanted to add that the problem seems to be with Firefox. I tried opening videos with Internet Explorer 9 and they stopped buffering the moment I closed their tabs or closed the browser, so I downgraded Firefox from ver. 17.0.1 to ver. 16.0.2 and I thought the problem was solved, the videos stopped downloading as soon as I closed them, but the next time I opened Firefox the problem was there again...
BTW, I've already ran a full system antivirus scan, but my PC is clean. I've also tried disabling Greasemonkey and all its scripts.
Please, help me if you can!

• How do I allow firefox 4 to go onto a page based on keywords in address bar

Firefox 3.6 allowed me to use the address bar as a more clever way of browsing. I am not sure why this feature was removed but it used google to figure out from my keywords what website I meant.
e.g gamespot uk would bring up google.co.uk
speedtest bbmax would bring up speedtest.bbmax.co.uk
If anybody knows how to fix this it would be great otherwise I may jut downgrade.

Firefox 3.6 uses the Google "browse by name" feature, you can set Firefox 4 to use this feature by changing a preference.
# Type about:config into the location bar and press enter
# Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
# Locate the preference keyword.enabled and make sure it is set to true, if it is not you can double-click on it to change its value.
# Locate the preference keyword.URL, double-click on it and change its value to the link show below

• Firefox 25.0.1 Warn when closing multiple tabs (on) conflicts with "show windows und tabs from last time" (on); need both, but only one or the other works.

Using Firefox 25.0.1 on Windows 7 Home Premium
I've poured through support forums for Mozilla Firefox searching for a fix to my initial problem of the "Warn when closing multiple tabs" pop up not popping up when I have it selected.
Went through About:Config, making sure warnings for tabs und closing, und showing on quit, und quitting, etc. were all set to true, which were "possible" fixes for the issue I was having, there are like five or six things set to true for warnings/quitting/etc. No avail. They are all set to true.
Then I stumbled across one that suggested a conflict with the "Warn When Closing Multiple Tabs" und the "Show Windows und Tabs from last time".
I use both features. However, I found if I want the warning pop up for closing multiple tabs, I have to have "show homepage" or "show blank page" selected instead of "Show windows und tabs from last time" selected. (Tools>Options>General>Start Up>When Firefox Starts:) The problem with this is, yes, I get my warning pop up, BUT, I don't get my tabs from my last session.
The warning in settings (Tools>Options>Tabs>Warn Me When Closing Multiple Tabs) is checked.
To have my tabs restored from last session, I simply select it for "when firefox starts". Bam, I have my tabs that were open from the last time I quit. Und again, full circle, I don't have my warning pop up.
There were also suggestions of the warning on close for tabs is conflicting with add-ons.
However, I don't have many. Und I have yet to test them to see if they interfere. These are according to my Add Ons tab when I check it myself.
Extensions:
1. Avast WebRep (disabled)
2. HP Smart Web Printing (disabled)
Plugins:
1. Adobe Acrobat
2. Google Update
3. iTunes Application Detector
4. Java (TM) Platform SE 7 U45
5. Shockwave Flash
6. Shockwave For Director
7. Silverlight Plug-In
8. VLC Web Plugin
9. Windows Live Photo Gallery
10. Java Deployment Toolkit (disabled)
Note: The Details Firefox provides says I have these for Plugins
* Shockwave Flash 11.9 r900
* Adobe Shockwave for Director Netscape plug-in, version 12.0.5.146
* Next Generation Java Plug-in 10.45.2 for Mozilla browsers
* Google Update
* Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape 11.0.05
* VLC media player Web Plugin 2.1.0
* 5.1.20913.0
* iTunes Detector Plug-in
* NPWLPG
Unsure of what the "5.1.20913.0" und the "NPWLPG" plugins are, but they don't appear to me under Add Ons.
Und as usual, I'm assuming the solution lies within About:Config, I will show here now what I have set to True.
browser.tabs.warnOnClose - True
browser.tabs.warnOnCloseOtherTabs - True
browser.tabs.warnOnOpen - True
browser.warnOnQuit - True
browser.showQuitWarning - True
As aforementioned:
The seemingly only issue is the conflict between Show Windows/Tabs From Last Time und the Warn On Quit pop up. Und again, I need/want both of them. More so the tabs from the last session, but I really really really really really want the warning.
So, if anyone knows a work around, preferably without having to download anything to fix this, I would be extremely grateful.

You mention a second subject.
I'm probably going to downgrade to another version of firefox that was suggested to me since I'm also having issues with shockwave flash causing firefox to hang und ultimately needs to be force closed otherwise having to have flash disabled to use firefox.
<u>Downgrading Firefox </u><br />
Flash is notorious for causing Firefox problems. I suggest you start a new thread about that. If at all possible you should try to avoid downgrading to an unsecure & unsupported version of Firefox. it will increase risks to your system and Personal data. (There are methods of mitigating the risks, using a virtual machine or operating within a secure intranet for instance)
*(Do Not) Install an older version of Firefox
<u>Try Flash with Protected Mode Off</u><br/>
Worth a try as it takes minimal effort & often solves Flash Problems whilst allowing current and more secure FlashPlayer to be used. See

<u>Your experience in submitting troubleshooting information on the forum</u><br />
(This is out of curiosity, but with the intention of pressing for changes if forum faults are discovered.)
There are yet more changes to this forum underway. Mozilla recently tried to improve the experience for first time users of the forum and a troubleshooting app option was included in the workflow to try to encourage users to submit full troubleshooting information.
I would be interested to know what you thought
I sometimes wonder if users are not trying to use that, or whether forum users run into problems in using it. At one point I wondered whether there was a problem if too much data was included but never actually proved that conjecture.
Assuming you are using the forum, and not merely replying by email look towards the top in the right hand margin for clickable buttons
* Question Details -V- More System Details -> [Additional System Details]
You will note that includes only partial information. There are no changed prefs or extensions listed. Compare for instance the information in this thread [/questions/978130] with full information.
I believe your mystery plugins are Windows related
* NPWLPG relates usually to Windows Live Photo Gallery
* 5.1.20913.0 will be Silverlight
