Downgrading IE11 in Windows 8

Dear Team,
Can anyone help me in getting some information about downgrading the IEv11 in Windows 8.1. In the W 8 OS the IE 11 comes as default, some of our ERP applications are not compatible with IE11 and this causes trouble.
Help is highly appreciated.

You cannot install any version of IE earlier than IE11 on Windows 8.1.
There are many options for compatibility: see

  • Java Applet painting broken in IE11 and Windows 8.1

When running a Java applet in Internet Explorer 11 window on Windows 8.1, JRE fails to repaint the viewport correctly when the web browser window is resized or scrolled. (assuming the Java Applet has display dimensions larger than the window, necessitating the need to resize or scroll host IE window). Webpage is displaying the java applet using any of OBJECT or EMBED tags.
This JRE behavior prevents the user from interacting successfully with the Java Applet (typically input data fields or click buttons in applet) should user need to resize or scroll the window.
This bug only occurs on IE11 on Windows 8.1 with JRE 7 and JRE 8 (include 8u31)
    This bug does not occur on  IE11 on Windows 7,  IE10 on Windows 7 / 8 ,  Firefox on Windows  7 / 8 / 8.1 ,  Google Chrome on Windows  7 / 8 / 8.1
This bug has also been posted to the IE Feedback website since 2013 as we do not know if this is to be resolved by Oracle or Microsoft.
With the upcoming removal of Java Plugin support in Google Chrome, and, with this JRE bug (or incompatibility?) in IE11 Windows 8.1, this leaves only Firefox as the only usable web browser for Java Applets on Windows 8.1.  Our customer base on Windows 8.1 is only using IE11 or Chrome.

I am seeing a minor issue with the timesheet grid after users are upgraded from IE8 to IE11.
We are using Project Server 2010 with SP1 and Oct 2013 CU.
When some users (using IE11) switches between filters or views in the Timesheet page, the grid shrinks making to content un readable.  The only way to get it back is to refresh the page. After a refresh, the grid returns to normal size, but the pane
divider is too far to the left and always must be dragged to the right in order to see the task names in the left grid.

Unable to view external webcam content.  I'm using IE11 with Windows 7 64 bit.  I've tried deactivating Activex control, tried different browsers etc, tweeked the tools for trusted sites etc, but am totally stuck. I know the cams are working as i can view them on mobile phone via puffin browser.  I can play Youtube videos etc just fine. So why not the webcam?

First, confirm that ActiveX Filtering is configured to allow Flash content:
    https://forums.adobe.com/thread/867968
Internet Explorer 11 introduces a number of changes both to how the browser identifies itself to remote web servers, and to how it processes JavaScript intended to target behaviors specific to Internet Explorer. Unfortunately, this means that content on some sites will be broken until the content provider changes their site to conform to the new development approach required by modern versions of IE.
You can try to work around these issues by using Compatibility View:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/use-compatibility-view#ie=ie-11
If that is too inconvenient, using Google Chrome may be a preferable alternative.

  • Project Server 2010 compatibility with IE11 and Windows 8.1

    Hi All!
Maybe a silly question since compatibility is always asked about older versions, but here is my question:
Is Project Server 2010 compatible with IE11 and Windows 8.1?
I personnaly tested with IE11 and it seems to be ok. All views and pages can be opened with IE11.
    But what about windows 8.1?
Has Microsoft done any communication about this?
Thanks in advance for your helps.

  • IE11 on Windows 7 SP1

    Hello Experts.
I have a Windows 7 SP1 PC and I have installed the IE11 on it.  Initially I have not seen the option to enable the Enterprise Mode from local GPO console(GPEDIT.EXE), Hence I tried to search and found that KB2929437 is required for IE11 to enable the
Enterprise mode on Windows 7 devices, I installed the required KB also and found that the option to Enable\Disable the Enterprise mode in IE11 on Windows 7 was appeared.
I Enabled the Enterprise Mode and applied. then GPUPDATE /force and launched IE11 but do not see the option of Enterprise Mode in IE11 Tools.
Also, tried with putting the registries : HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\EnterpriseMode
    Enable String
Still no luck. Can anyone advise me how I can resolve this issue?. Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
After you enabled IE 11 enterprise mode, Open IE and open a website, then Press
Alt tab and choose Tools, after that, you should be able to find
    Enterprise Mode was checked.
Please follow my steps to chck your IE, if there is any progress, please feel free let me know.

  • Downgrade pre installed Windows 8 pro (pre-injected key) to Window 7 professional

    Hallo,
we just bought a few Dell Vostro with preinstalled Windows 8 pro and the keys are pre-injected within the BIOS of the computer. There is no Windows 8 key on a sticker outside of the computer.
What is the right way to downgrade this Windows 8 pro to Windows 7 Professional ?
    Thank you.
       Wolfgang

    Thank you for your answer.
I followed you link and came out on this page: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2832566/en
    >For a PC that has Windows 8 preinstalled by an OEM
    >Obtain genuine Windows 7 Professional or Windows Vista Business installation media and the >corresponding >product key. You may have to buy a full-package product copy of the Windows downgrade >from a retailer.
OK - I have a Windows 7 Professional installation medium with key.
    >Insert the media for the downgrade version of Windows into the PC, and then follow the installation >instructions.
    I did it with success.
    >Type the product key when you are asked to do this. If the software was previously activated, you can't >activate it online. In this case, the local Activation Support telephone number will be displayed. Call the >number, and explain the circumstances.
When it is determined that you have an eligible Windows license, >the customer service representative will provide a single-use activation code to activate the software. >Please be aware that Microsoft does not provide a full product key in this scenario.
I typed in the product key. The software *was* previously activated (still using it) - but I could activate it.
There was no need to call the support by phone and explain anything.
    Abstract:
It *is* possible and legal to downgrade a Windows 8 pro OEM license with pre injected key in BIOS to Windows 7 Professional by using a different Windows 7 Professional key by using the windows 7 key a second time.
Can you please confirm this ? Thank you.

If you have license for Windows 7 or you have downgrade option. You should do reinstall of Windows 7 and there is no direct downgrade option. It is possible to backup data and then restore files from user profile manually but there is
no direct downgrade option and you have to reinstall all programs.

    Hi:
You have to load the applicable SATA AHCI or RAID driver either by slipstreaming them, or by using the F6 key and installing the driver from a USB floppy disk drive.
See this guide for how to slipstream the drivers.  Read the intel section and then follow the instructions in the downloadable document to slipstream all of the drivers.

  • How to downgrade easily from windows 8.1 OEM to Windows 7 Pro

    Hi,
I've tried to get used to Windows 8.1 (7 months), but I did not find a solution to get the classic view (3D look instead of the extra flat look) nor to play spider solitaire in a windowed mode, it always opens in full screen (desktop PC 2560x1440). If I
get the game in a small windows, it's a "crab view" = lateral.
I've created an account and when I went online the 1st time, Microsoft made it a MS account and I don't have my own account anymore. I don't feel that I own the PC, it doesn't feel like my personal PC. It feels like a public internet PC. I have no pleasure
    at all using it.
I feel sad because I have been saving money for so long to buy a powerful PC with a nice large screen and it is so disappointing because of Windows 8.1 OEM. I have a license for Windows 7 Pro but if install it and it does not work (I can't find all the drivers),
the company I bought it from warns me I will lose my warranty.
It seems incredible to me that I have now 1st to pay Windows 8.1 Pro (I want to run away from it) in order to get downgrade rights. I feel miserable and helpless.
In the past I have bought a PC every time there was a new O/S (Windows 3.1, 95, 98, Millennium, Windows 2000, XP, XP Pro, Vista Home, Windows 7 Home.
Please any help is appreciated. I would like to be able to downgrade automatically, like when you click the "Windows update item in Start Menu"  that everything happens automatically, but instead of upgrading I would like to downgrade.
    Caroline

You can only do a clean install of Windows 7 to "downgrade" from Windows 8.1.  There is no other path.
And you must ensure your hardware has support for Windows 7.  Many of the platforms with Windows 8 do not have the necessary drivers to support the installation.
Follow Milos Puchta's advise and contact the manufacturer/vendor of your system for all assistance in this endeavor.

  • IE11 in Windows 8.1 changes scale when moving window between screens

    Hi,
I'm using Windows 8.1 with IE11 on a Dell Latitude E6510 with an external LG screen. I use both screens in my daily work and when I move a IE11 window from the internal screen in my laptop to the external LG screen, the scaling in IE11 changes and gets smaller.
It happens when the windows is halfway over to the external screen. On the way back it changes again and gets bigger. I've use the "One scaling for all my screens" in the Control Panel|Display applet without success. It's only IE11 that has this
behaviour, no other programs does this.
    Brgds Jonas

    Hi Brgds Jonas,
I agree with  Robert Aldwinckle .
In addition, Windows 8.1 definitely seems to be doing some automatic display scaling here, as has been rumored based on beta builds of the OS.
The first option is for multiple monitors with different ppi. windows will choose for you based on what the ppi is. use trial and error until you get the size you want and both monitors will be about that size. if they are close in ppi it will not scale
them differently because I am pretty sure it only chooses from the default scaling sizes.

  • Flash player not working in IE11 on Windows 8.1

I am on Windows 8.1 and working with Windows 8.1
When I test Flash, I get this screen
When I check if the player is enabled or disabled I get this screen (seems that Flash is enabled):
When I check for ActiveX, this is the result:
What can I do to get Flash working?
    Thanks for any help!!!!

Most of the problems come from the abomination Microsoft calls a browser---Internet Exploder 11.
IE has always been the problem child of browsers, but 11 has got to be the biggest pile of garbage to come out of Redmond, WA since Vista. They rewrote the "User-Agent Strings", which websites use to identify the browswer and provide the proper content for it, like ActiveX specific things. Some sites now ID it as Gecko (Firefox) while others ID it as Webkit (Chrome or Safari). Problem is, that when the content is adjusted for those User-Agent Strings, it REQUIRES the appropriate browser engine, which IE doesn't have (it uses Trident). EVERYTHING falls apart after that.
So far, Microsoft has made NO indication that they have any plan to fix it soon.
Microsoft's recommendation is to use Compatibility View for affected pages, and "pretend" you're using a different browser. Trouble with that is it has seen limited success at best, and you have to individually enable it for EVERY page that has problems.
I'm not big on "pretending" so I recommend actually using another browser.
    Firefox (from Mozilla)
    Opera (from Opera)
    Safari (from Apple)
    Chrome (from Google)
ANY of those will work where IE11 won't, with the Flash Player Plug-in (For all other browsers), and Chrome doesn't even need that because it has its own Flash Player plugin built in.

  • Posting From IE11 in Windows 8.1

I've put up a couple of test systems on the Windows 8.1 Preview, both Pro and Enterprise editions.
Just testing to see how the forum interacts with Internet Explorer 11.  So far so good - I have been able to log in and see things looking pretty much right.
Something I'm curious about is whether "quoted" strings are handled properly, because we have seen the double quote character changed to what looks like an HTML escape sequence by the forum software when IE10 under Windows 8 is used to access the forum.
    So here goes.
    "Quoted text"
If the above comes out with double-quote characters at the ends, that will be happy news.
Also, in typing this, I noticed that the forum software thinks I'm leaving the page every time I press a control - e.g., the Bold, "Insert Image", or font size controls, and puts this up:

Here I am, posting from a copy of Windows 8.1 RTM, available to the public for more than a week now, using the released version of IE11...
The "quoted text" problem is still with us (noting the quotes on this line have been changed to HTMLese.
The are you sure you want to navigate away from this page?  problem I reported above so long ago is still with us...
And now we have a new problem.  The following pops up, after which you lose your post (I've had to type this twice).
It's apalling to see how poorly Adobe is keeping up with technology.  How the hell do you folks expect to be considered the best source for content creation tools with this kind of web site management?
Do you think no one notices?

  • Flash Object has no Publisher or Version in IE11 in Windows 8.1

Hello, I have been trying to get flash player to work, and have tried several avenues in Windows 8.1. I have tried enabling Shockwave Flash, tried disabling ActiveX Filtering, re-register the flash.ocx file, resetting IE11,  and disabling/re-enabling IE11. Nothing has provided any help with this, but what I believe to be the issue is that the shockwave flash object literally has no information attached to it. No publisher, no version number.
Whenever I try to update internet explorer 8.1 64bit it says its up to date.
    Header 1
    Header 2
Whenever I try to update internet explorer 8.1 64bit it says its up to date.
Another adobe flash help page tells me I have flash preinstalled, and that it is just disabled.
Basically this is all the conclusive information I've gathered. I am trying to find a way to update the flash object, but downloading flash player for windows 8 says I have it preinstalled, and I don't know whether deleting the flash.ocx file is a good idea. If anyone has had these issues or feels knowledgeable about what could be going on that needs to be fixed, please let me know. Thanks for any and all help.

    Hi Preston,
Firstly, you don't want to delete flash.ocx.  Since Microsoft embeds Flash Player in IE, flash.ocx is locked and you can't delete it unless you mess with the permissions, and doing so will render you unable to resinstall IE to get Flash Player back, short of re-installing Windows (or resetting to factory settings, depending on the system you have).
If you've performed all of the suggested troubleshooting steps and Flash content is still not displaying appropriately in IE, it could be that Microsoft is not identifying the browser as IE in the user agent string, which many websites use to determine which browser is in use and display the content based on the browser.  Microsoft is continuously modifying the user agent string for IE and websites need to adjust how they identify the browser based on other features, not the user agent string.  As a test, using IE, go to What's My User Agent? and post the results here.
