Downgrading iMovie 10 to 9

I would like to do this, as my students will be using iMovie 9 and I'm more accustomed to it anyway. I know it's not hard to do if you still have iMovie 9 on your hard drive, but I don't — only iMovie 10. I'm running the latest version of Mavericks. Is there a way to do this? Thank you.

You should be able to find iMovie 9 again even after updating just by going to spotlight search and typing iMovie 9.0.4

  • Downgrade iMovie 08 to 06

Is there any way to downgrade iMovie 08 to 06?
I just bought a Mac Mini, and it came with iMovie 08.
The main reason for me getting a Mac is to use the movie functions, but as it stands, my Windows with Pinnacle Studio 10 has greater functionality.
I am VERY dissapointed in this product.
I did research before making my descision to get it, and everywhere I went, they touted the Mac as a great movie machine...
    Ugh!
Can anyone help me with this?
    Where do I start?
The Apple website does not offer live communication with anyone unless you are calling about an iPhone...
I just don't need a $600.00 system to check email and surf the Internet. I already have one for that...
    Thank you in advance,
    Bob

    No.

iMovie 08 is NOT an upgrade of iMovie 06. It is a completely new application. iMovie 08 is better for absolute beginners that don't want to burn a DVD. Most others will like iMovie 06 for its far greater editing power and ease of making DVDs. (Like creating Chapter Markers and Share to iDVD.)
Most owners of iLife 08 I know use iMovie 06.
iMovie 08 is a wonderful program assuming that you're using it for what it was designed to do, assemble simple videos to share on the Internet.
Remember that Apple includes iMovie 06 as a free download to iLife 08 owners. (THEY WANT YOU TO HAVE IT!)

  • How To Downgrade iMovie HD to NOT HD version, 6-5 or 4 without CD software?

I won my Power PC G4 on a computer giveaway in my college. They didn't provide any software. I upgrated to Mac OS X (I bought the software) I have the 10.4.9 version installed.
I had iMovie (don't know exactly which version) on my Mac, but I never had an original software CD.
I bought I Life '06 to be able to get the new updated versions of everything, including iMovie.
Unfortunatelly my computer does not support HD, so I was wondering if there is any way I could possibly DOWNGRADE from the iMovie HD to the previous NOT HD version, I don't know if it was iMovie 6, iMovie 5, or iMovie 6... But without having the original CD software.
    Thank you for your help!

As Niel pointed out a few weeks ago, iMovie 3.0.3 - which was free - is still available for download from Apple here.
However, it's not as stable, or as useful, as later versions, and you do need to be careful with it: DO NOT EMPTY THE IMOVIE TRASH when you use this version, until you've completely finished your project and have backed it up, or burned it to a disc or sent it back to tape. Emptying the Trash can sometimes corrupt projects when you're using iMovie 3.0.3.
It should be able to co-exist with other versions of iMovie in your Applications folder, and it has its own 'Preference' file, so it shouldn't cause problems if you have both iM 3.0.3 and iMovie HD on the same Mac. But you may not be able to open, in iM 3.0.3, a project created with a later version.
I don't know, but there may be a QuickTime conflict, too, and you just might have to downgrade to an earlier version of QuickTime if you have problems with iM 3.0.3.

  • Can I downgrade imovie 08?

I  have imovie 08 and would like to downgrade or upgrade to an imovie which has slow motion or fast motion effects,
    any help please. thank you!
Ps. I couldn't find any original download for imovie 06, and when I try to download imovie HD 6 or imovie 6.02 it mentions that i do not have imovie 6 and it cannot download it onto my system, and for imovie 9 it says that my OS 10.5.8 doesn't accept imovie 09
    please help, thank you!

It sounds like your mac doesn't support imovie 09. There are no more leagal downloads for imovie 06, you need to purchase it!

  • Downgrading iMovie 10 to 9 but deleted both from Apps.

Hi, I use iMovie 10 quite uncommonly so I decided to delete it since it was taking a lot of space on my laptop. I deleted iMovie 9 as well which was still saved on my Applications folder after the update. Now I need to use it (stupid) but I wanted to download iMovie 9 instead of 10. I downloaded iMovie 9 from the internet but when I try to install it it says that I have to already own a verson. I redownloaded iMovie 10 from the App store and now that I try to install iMovie 9, it just says that a newer version is already installed which disables me to install it. Is there a way to get iMovie 9 back with this problem? Thanks

iMovie 9 is not longer available from Apple. You should always have backup copies to your software as it is not guaranteed to always be available for redownload. iMovie 9 has been superceded by 10 and the Mac App Store always sells the newest version.
You may be able to find an old DVD version of iLife through the internet with iMovie 9.

  • Downgrade to iMovie 9.0.4?

What are the steps to downgrade from iMovie 9.0.6 to 9.0.4? 9.0.6 doesn't import audio from the camcorder, and downgrading iMovie seems to be the only solution at the moment. I downloaded 9.0.4 from Apple Support, but the installer returns the message "The version of iMovie installed on this Mac must be updated through the Mac App Store. Check the Mac App Store to see if an update is available."
Time Machine is not set up on my computer, so that is not a possibility.
    Any ideas?

Do you have Time Machine running? If so, you can select the iMovie App, the Movies/iMovie Projects folder, and the Movies/iMovie Events folder (Plus any iMovie folders on external drives) and go back in time to a time before the upgrade.
Unfortunately, this would cause you to lose any project work done after the upgrade, because it would not exist in the earlier time. You might try saving it in a diffferent location so you could retrieve it when you upgrade at a future time (presumably after Apple provides a fix.)
If going back in time would cause you to lose Events, then rather than reverting to a pre-upgrade state, just delete the cache, thumbnails, and stabilization folders within the events and let iMovie regenerate them the next time you open it.
This is a bit like brain surgery so do so at your own risk (better yet, make a complete backup before you start so if anything goes wrong, you still have your important video!)

  • Can I downgrade to imovie 9??? please I need it

Please Can someone explain me to downgrade imovie 11 to imovie 9

    Do you mean iMovie 10 ('13) to imovie 9 ('11) ?
If you had iMovie 9 when you  updated to Mavericks it should still be in your Applications folder in its own folder called iMovie 9.0.9.  It was part of iLife '11.  You can buy it from Amazon:

  • How do I get QT 6.5.2 image adjustments to be retained on iMovie import

    Hi,
I produced a DVD last year using clips from my digital camera (which always need tint, contrast, brightness, and color adjustments), Quicktime, and iMovie. I sat down this weekend to do the same thing, but discovered, much to my discomfiture, that the image adjustment features are missing in Quicktime Pro 7 (on my Powerbook G4 running Mac OS 10.3.9). Luckily, I'd kept quicktime 6.5.2 because I'd heard that the upgrade would eliminate the features. However when I import a 6.5.2-adjusted clip into iMovie, the image adjustments aren't retained! Do I have to downgrade iMovie too or what? How do I get my image adjustments to stick?
I've tried making the same adjustments using iMovie, but they don't provide nearly the amount of fine control as in quicktime 6.5.2 and I just end up making it look worse no matter how much I fiddle with it. I event tried counting how many pixels I'm moving the slider over to match the quicktime adjustments and I just can't reproduce the image quality.
Is there a way I can get this to work without having to buy anything (which I find highly questionable since I used to be able to do this before) and if I MUST buy something, how will I know if I need to buy a new graphics card (as is mentioned on one of the support FAQs)?
    Rob

That's all well and good, but it's so much more time consuming. I've been trying, unsuccessful, for hours to get the image just right in this one clip using the method you suggest - a process which took me under a minute using the video controls in 6.5.2 - and I can't seem to get it right. I know that iMovie used to respect the adjustments made in the video controls because I have DVDs to prove it that I made a year ago. Using the filter process you suggested has proven to be too time consuming for me. These clips need a lot of adjusting and I often go back and forth between the adjustments to tweak them based on the new image quality. Sure filters give me more options, but it just takes way too long and all I can seem to do is make it worse. I want it to work the way it used to, and as far as I can tell, there are two solutions: downgrade something or upgrade the OS and possibly install a video card. Does anyone know if a downgrade of just iMovie will work or do I need to reinstall my OS (and not update) to restore the previous abilities? Or, if I upgrade the OS, how will I know if I need the aforementioned graphics card? If I upgrade, will it work the way it used to and import into iMove with the image adjustments or will it not work that way anymore at all?
    Thanks,
    Rob

  • IMovie HD 6: HD Capture Recommendation

I have discovered that Macbooks and Macbook Pros are both terrible at capturing HD video from a Canon Vixia HV30. Over three years of attempts and compromises, even seeing a temporary improvement by downgrading iMovie 6.0.3 back to 6.0, I have completely abandoned HD capture with my portable/laptop Macintosh computers.
My fix: pick up a dual PowerMac G5 system. This model is capable of capturing the immense HD data stream in REAL TIME. The Macbook and macbookpro both dropped regularly to as slow as 1/8 speed capture, making any large projects impossible.
The 2.0Ghz Powermac G5 I am currently using must simply be better at transcoding the HD stream into the preferred format by iMovie (whatever that may be, I just know that it needs to capture in one format, and then convert it to another).
This system can be had for as little as $200 used off of eBay.

Well I own 2 HV30's and an hv40 and both capture just find in a macbook pro. I use 4GB ram memory and make sure that i at least have 25 gb or more of Hard drive space available. NO other cables connected, Canon does not like other cables connected. I really usually have at least 119GB of free space then capture in real time one hour of video at a time from the HV30 then once done i will move it over to an external hard drive to work in imovie HD 6

  • Downgrade or change the way it looks?

So I've been used to using iMovie in iLife 06 and iMovie 08 is completely different than the older version. My questions are: is it possible to downgrade iMovie or change it's appearance to look like the older versions.

You do know that you can download an iMovie HD 6 for free since you have iLife 08-right?

  • ILife '08 or not

OK, so I have my old iLife running under Leopard. I can look at my pics, edit my movies from my DV tape JVC camcorder but I can't use iDVD to make the disc my family are expecting.
I know I should upgrade to +at least+ iLife '06 and preferably '08. I also know that I can downgrade iMovie '08 to '06 because I like to get involved in the editing and compilation of my work.
Question: what's the best policy? Or to put it another way, is the rest of iLife '08 worth having just to downgrade iMovie ? I could make use of the rest of the suite sometime but it's iDVD and I suppose iPhoto I'm looking at just now.
    Ta

iDVD 08 has a preference option for a "professional" encode. Make sure you select that for great quality.
Before you start your DVD authoring, make a bunch of smaller projects in iMovie 08 that are only 30-60 seconds long. You can then use these for the iDVD dropzones as your animated menus.
The intermediate step from iMovie to iDVD is the Media Browser. If your computer has the horse power, export all your movies to the Media Browser as Large for a slight bump in quality. Medium is quicker to work with but looks slightly less sharp, something you will only see on an HDTV and progressive DVD player.
The one bad thing is that you have to go from iMovie to GarageBand, then to iDVD to add chapter markers exactly where you want them. If you don't want to take time with this extra step, you can still auto add chapter markers every ten minutes within iDVD.
Oh, and if you want to have separate features on your DVD, say the "main feature" and then "extra bonus material", edit main and extras as separate iMovie projects.
    Have fun!

    Sue:
Per your link managed to unistall iDVD 5.0.1 and reinstall iDVD 5.0 -- no improvement to file-size doubling when encoding iMovie. Downgraded iMovie the same way and encoding file-size still doubles in iDVD. Talked to Apple-- no solution so far. iMovie still encodes in iDVD properly, albeit slowly, on my G4.

  • Problems with seeing photos while working on the Ken Burns Effect

I am having difficulty seeing my photos when I use the Ken Burns Effect. All I get is a black screen. It won't let me adjust anything on the photos because the screen is black. Please Help

So I have kind of the same issue here but it is slightly different. I tried all of the tricks that have been posted here but I am getting the black screen on brand new pictures that are imported both with and without the ken burns effect on them. I don't seem to have the problems on pictures that are already in the video with/without the KB effect.
I have also tried to do it under another user account, downgraded iMovie HD 6 from 6.0.3 down to 6.0 and 6.0.2 and nothing seems to help. I have even removed the plists on both ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iMovie.plist along with anything in /Library/Preferences having to do with iMovie without any success. The only solution that I am resorting to is to just use a different computer all together or format the drive on my computer.
Any solutions? I have a video that needs to be down by the end of next week...
