Downgrading Logic 9.1.7 to 9.1.5

I read somewhere that 9.1.5 might solve the recent problems Logic is having with OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion.  It is easy to downgrade?  Can I just trash the Logic icon in my Applications folder and install 9.1.5?  If anyone else wants to give it a shot and report back here's a link to past versions:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1519

I actually have 8 still on my system drive for some reason.  I think I was unsure about 9 when it first came out or something so I didn't delete 8...?  So would I need to delete the Logic 9.1.7 icon so it only sees the version of 8 I have?  Then download 9.5.1 or...?
Thanks for your help.

  • Quicktime video sluggish with Logic

I'm using LP 7.2.3 ,and am noticing a significant lag in playback when using it with Quicktime. When I hit play, for example, it may take 2-3 seconds before anything happens.
This seems relatively recent, and I thought connected to my upgrading to QT 7.1.3. But when I downgraded to 7.0.2, the problems persisted. Any thoughts? I've tried both the boot drive and various firewire drives for video playback. All of these drives played back QT movies in the past just fine, and play Pro Tools picture without a hitch.

sorry mate, but can you go through your trouble
    shooting checklist?
the combo you are talking about works everywhere
else....logic 7.2, DAE, QT - all works fine.
does it work normally when you play it back
internally - ie as a window on the monitor?
does it work noramlly when you use built-in audio
    with a fresh autoload?
how much other things do you run from the same drive
    as the video?
do you have other devices on the FW bus the video
converter uses? (don't forget macs only come with 1
    FW bus!)
i agree with you it is likely a QT issue but
downgrading logic will not help. QT and logic are
seperate. try downgrading QT. you can do this by
installing a standalone installer and removing the
receipts script from library->receipts (you may know
this already - you sound like you know what you are
doing but its for anyone else following the thread).
the issues with the latest version of QT seem to be
    intel specific though - you're running a G5 aren't
    you?
It does not work well in any config-on the monitor or through a canopus box to an external monitor. Video in Pro Tools works fine. Logic without video works fine. Video playing off internal ATA or ext firewire both not functioning.
Trying it without DAE is interesting. I will try that, although I wonder what it says if it works?
What version of QT do you use? 7.1.3?

  • Naming Audio Files/Record Path In Logic 8

Unless I am completely mistaken, it appears that there is much less flexibility for giving a precise name to each newly recorded audio file in L8. In L7 with a single KC, "Set audio record path" you had two crucial options to set the name of the file and its destination folder.
Whereas in L8, you have the option to set the 'recording folder' and the name of the file is uselessly and inflexibly tied to the audio track (pages 359/360 of the Manual).
One of the most efficient ways of cataloguing takes is to keep renaming each take by the date/time/instrument abbreviated.. all for the same Audio Track. A simple KC in L7 used to give the option to newly name the audio file at any moment.
Someone please tell me I have completely misunderstood L8 .. and that you can do what I used to do for years in L7

This is only one example of the many downgrades Logic 8 provides from Logic 7.
Hopefully this misguided choice will be reversed, like the stupidity of making
the giant smpte and giant bar displays light grey on dark grey, thus unreadable
from across the studio. (This was changed) . Add to that not being able to make the transport bar
the shape and size you had before, the transparent windows that show what's
behind them on the desktop, the bugs in the piano roll window, etc. Half of my
time learning 8 has been trying to learn new ways of doing things that were
fast and easy in 7, and some are now impossible. It's clear they're not sending
the beta versions out to working composers, and then listening to their comments,
as these complaints are extremely widespread.

  • Trackpad no worky

    (Copied from General usage thread)
To my great delight and pride, I managed to replace a dead LogicBoard on a 12" AlBook all by myself. I bought a used 1.33 board to replace the dead 1.5.
WHen it was all buttoned up (Fresh HD and all) it started up without a hitch. Everything works, all the ports, audio, eveything...
EXCEPT THE TRACKPAD AND BUTTON. No scroll, no click, no nuthin'.
A USB mouse works fine, so the project is still a success, but without a working trackpad, it'll be tough to make this little PB my road warrior.
I'm willing to invest the 50 bucks or so in a new top case w/trackpad to get it all working, but I want to make sure that the problem IS DEFINITELY the trackpad, and NOT the 'new' logicboard.
I looked in the System Profiler and I have heard that the trackpad shows up under USB. On the PB, it DOESN'T.
Is that a good or bad sign? Any suggestions on how to test, revive?
Could there possibly be a problem in hardware/firmware when DOWNGRADING the logicboard from 1.5 to 1.33?
    ANY help is appreciated.

I think your problem is due to the fact that the 1.5GHz 12-inch PowerBook G4 was the first to utilize the Scrolling Trackpad feature. The 1.33GHz logic board probably does not have the firmware to run the Scrolling Trackpad on your 1.5GHz case.
Since the 1.33GHz 12-inch PowerBook did not support or have the Scrolling Trackpad feature, I don't think there will be any firmware to let you operate the 1.5GHz original's trackpad with your downgraded logic board.
I'm curious as to why you decided to replace your 1.5GHz's broken logic board with a lower and previous version? I know some people in these forums try to upgrade their lower spec'd one to a higher processor. Logic-ally, it would have been best to have done a like-for-like replacement, or from lower to higher.
Congratulations though on fixing your machine! I don't think I would have had the guts to open up the guts of my machine to do a repair, especially the logic board! =)
P.S. There are some third-party utilities and/or hacks that allow you to recreate that feature, the scrolling trackpad, on non-supported PowerBooks & iBooks.

thanks for your help but it still doesnt work.I deleted all of them but still when i try to reinstall LP7 the LP7 program highlight is off. but the others are on.what should i do..thank you..
If you deleted LP7 after installing L8, and now want to reinstall LP7, you can't.
    See here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1092
Maybe I misread your post - have you deleted both 7 AND 8? In which case, reinstalling Logic 7 should be possible - maybe you need to delete the Logic receipts - there's a thread here indicating where you'll find them.

  • How do i downgrade to previous version of logic pro x

Im asking cause the 10.0.5 verson does crazy delay problems, cant bounce with virus ti2 polar.. well just crazy.. I need to try a previous version of logic pro x to check..

You can only do that if you have a backup of an older version. In that case: just replace the application.

  • Loop Browser Crashes Logic

    I have "upgraded" from Logic 7 to 8 (actually a downgrade in my opinion) and then to Logic 9. Now in L9, the Apple Loop browser crashes logic. It will not reindex. I can't play anything back, any activity in the browser crashes Logic. I've seen this post;
    Rebuilding the loop index :
Quit Logic if it is open.
Place the folder /Library/Audio/Apple Loops Index/ in the trash. (Note: GarageBand 1 and Jampacks 1-3 used a different location. See Where loops get installed for more information).
    Open Logic.
Drag the folder /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/ from the finder into the Loop Browser in Logic.
Will this fix the problem? I'm concerned that this may screw up my browser in L7 or L8 both of which I continue to use. I also have a lot of 3rd party Apple Loops that are in the browser.. what will happen with these?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Dan Rad

Those instructions you found somewhere are probably fine, but you might as well use the Apple version. Follow this procedure: "Logic: Rebuilding the Loop Index."
It will probably solve the problem, and it won't do any harm.
If it doesn't solve the problem, there are some other things we can try, so let us know.

  • Logic Pro 9 won't import GarageBand songs from iPad

This used to be a simple process. Import the song via iTunes from the iPad to the Mac, save the ".band" file to the desktop, click on the song and it would open in Logic Pro 9. I can no longer get iOS GarageBand songs, new or old, to open in Logic on the Mac. Logic keeps crashing. When I click on the ".band" file, try to open it from within Logic, or try dragging onto the Logic icon, the only option I get is to save the file that I'm trying to open. If I save it and then try to open it, there is nothing there but an empty arrange window with the name of the song at the top. If I click on all of the advanced options when saving, Logic crashes and says it needs to be updated yet there are no available updates. It's already up to date. Is it suggesting that I purchase Logic X bc the iPad has the latest version of GarageBand? One problem there is, I can no longer open the old files, that opened previously on the same Mac, etc., that were recorded on the 8-track version of GarageBand. Any ideas? Should I re-install Logic Pro 9?

Hey, thanks. I have GB 2.0.1 (which is probably linked to GB 10) on the iPad 2 and LP 9.1.8 on the Mac. I take the iPad on the road and sketch out ideas then transfer them to the Mac. I have found a way to transfer the audio manually by opening the project folder and copying 1 track at a time, but that does me no good as all of those audio tracks get replaced anyway. I want to keep the MIDI files and know how to access them in the ".band" file or change the language in the file to make GB 2.0.1 open in LP9, if any one knows how to do that.
Do you know how to downgrade to an older version of GB for iOS? The one purchased on my app store is 2.0.1, unfortunately. Where/ how can I get an older version? Thank you.
As for buying LP 10, my Mac won't support it as it's 32-bit.

  • MIDI Timeout - Mountain Lion 10.8.2 - Logic Pro 9.1.7

This issue is driving me INSANE.
Everything was working great a couple of weeks ago.  I'm fairly certain but not 100% this worked after my upgrade to 10.8.1
I am seeing the dreaded MIDI Timeout that seems to have NO ANSWER for some.  Others claim clear out your logic/gb temp files and reboot and all is well, or verify/repair your files/permissions... DOESN'T WORK.
I've created 2 different user accounts no dice.
I get the MIDI Timeout / The bad driver? windows
    In Logic / Garage Band.
MIDI Setup takes forever to do anything and when clicking anything other then the first main window that loads it just hangs.
I've tried nearly EVERY fix i've seen on these boards.
    Downgrading to Pro Kit 7.0
    Upgrading to Pro Kit 7.2.2
    Going from 10.8.1 - 10.8.0
    Reinstalling Logic 9.0.0 - 9.1.3 - 9.1.7
While doing all of this It seems anything that accesses anything with MIDI just crashes and needs to be forced closed.
At some point during my upgrades, downgrades it seems that it was more responsive while crashing (meaning it crashed faster and or gave me error messages without as long of a wait.)
At this point Logic LOADS, Past the checking MIDI (which it would always crash on) and will load a project.  However the SECOND I try ANYTHING it gives me the MIDI error and refuses to work.
Before that I was getting something with the MIDI as well.
I am getting a Sequencer engine timed out after 800 milliseconds in the console.
IS There Anything I can do that might actually fix this aside from a TOTAL clean install and do over?
I'm at my wits end here.  I don't want to waste another 3 days loosing time reinstalling.
    Thanks

I updated to 10.7.5 last week and have been experiencing problems with MIDI ever since. In particular, my laptop will sometimes not find my interface (a MOTU Express XT). Unplugging the USB cable and plugging it in again will sometimes make it work again. But I've also found that a perfectly working system will stop working if I leave everything alone for a few hours and come back to it later.
Very worried about this but I've no idea what's going on

  • Logic pro 9.1.8 won't load and I get spinning beachball of death

I have ML that is up to date and logic studio 9.1.8. When I try to run 9.1.8 (1700.67) (64-bit) I get to a splash screen that says "Searching for Audio Unit plug-ins (Apple:AUNetReceive).....and I have the spinning beachball of the death. I have to use force quit the app.
I have looked at a few threads and can't find my answer. Should I trash permissions or reload the app after I get rid of it using app cleaner?
OR is this a simple fix?
    Thanks in advance.
I haven't tried to open it on my MBP, but I assume I will get the same result.

Sorry to state the obvious (?) but you are not Updating/Upgrading.
You are DOWN grading if you are going from 9.1.8 to 9.0.2
If you want to downgrade, likely you will need to ERASE, and reinstall Logic.

I'm experiencing exactly the same issue... fresh install of Logic Pro, fresh update of Mountain Lion, everything up-to-date. Logic Pro crashes on start every time. I've trolled a number of forums and seen lots of references to ProKit.framework being the culprit. Some recommend downgrading this, but then there could be trouble with iPhoto and other apps. Some recommend waiting for the next OS update. I can't find a conclusive solution.

  • Logic Pro 9 will not start in Mountain Lion

I have gotten so much great info here, that I thought this would be the best place to ask my question. I am using a Mac Pro 3, 1 (early 2008). I bought the machine running Leopard, upgraded to Snow Leopard, lion, and Mountain lion with no problems. I have a valid license for logic studio eight and nine. Logic ran without problems… Until I upgraded to Mavericks. After upgrading, my computer started acting terribly. It was much slower, and I would get these terrible freezes where the screen would go kind of crazy flashing colors and stop working completely.
After thinking it was my graphics card, and not wanting to spend $1 million on a new video card, I decided to try downgrading back to Mountain lion.
First, I cleaned off the system drive, and installed mountain lion fresh from a USB drive. The crashing went away and the computer ran much faster and smoother.
However, after reinstalling logic, I am no longer able to start it. As soon as I click on the icon either through Finder or a dock menu, it crashes almost immediately. It has never gotten to or through the part where it scans the plug-ins or anything. I tried to understand the report it generates, and understand the things that it is trying to tell me, but cannot make any sense out of what it is actually saying happened. I have updated the app as well. I am currently at 9.1.8.
I don't know why this is happening, and don't know what the best next step should be. I already have everything moved out of the way if I need to do another fresh install. I was thinking to try a fresh install on a clean drive of Mavericks, and see if anything changes. Also, when I would try to change logic to start in 64-bit mode, there would be no option in the "get info" window to select or deselect 32-bit mode. It simply wasn't there.
I can post specs/logs/error reports of course, but don't even know where to start. Does anybody have any experience with this? Does anybody have a suggestion for where to start? Do I need to get Logic X? (Logic was running fine in Mountain Lion before) I have scoured the Internet trying to find someone with similar issues, but haven't found anything that works. All I have really tried is reinstalling both the OS and the app. Everything else works great in Mountain lion. I still have my Snow Leopard disks if you think going all the way back there would be the best option. My OS is running in 64-bit mode, but when logic does try to start, it says 32-bit mode in the little start up window.
I'm totally comfortable with Terminal, Console, etc, so can provide any info if anybody thinks they may be able to direct me towards a solution.
Thanks for reading and thanks for any help or advice.

    kcstudio
Must be my chipset then, although another Mainstage board told me otherwise. (that it was the OS)
When I upgraded my Duo2Core MBPro to Mavericks, I too lost Logic 9.
I'm pretty much done with Logic 9, and pretty happy about the new Logic X, and happy that it works on ALL of my machines.

  • How can i downgrade my iphone 4s from iOS 6.0.1 to iOS 5.1.1?

i've ugraded my iphone 4s to iOS 6.0.1 and i'm not satisfied. it slows down my phone and takes a lot of RAM and CPU. i want to downgrade to 5.1.1 and i've been searching a lot on the web apparently i have to be jailbreaked so i can downgrade. this is not logicly acceptable. i don't like jailbreaking my phone. i should have the right to downgrade to any iOS versions that i want but apple is just being unfair. apple is limiting and puts boundaries for the usage of my own personal gadget which leads people to jailbreak or change their mind on using apple products. i as a client and a fan of apple products am not satisfied and i'm gonna change my mind about it if i don't find any solution for this problem.
anyways people out there i would really appreciate if u have anything to share...

  • Recently forced to update Macbook Pro (Mid 2012) from Mountain Lion to Yosemite. Performance is awful. Is there any way to change back/downgrade?

(Sorry if this isn't the correct category)
I have always been a fan of Apple and almost always love Firmware updates. OS X 10.9 and 10.10, however, I do not like.
I recently spent a lot of time going through all the troubleshooting steps Apple Support makes you go through before I called them to get my problems fixed as quickly as possible (no point wasting both our time). I had encountered scepticism in the past that maybe my problems were because I was running 10.8 and so to prove that it was in fact a hardware problem, I updated. AppleCare finally agreed to replace my logic board (for a second time) which fixed the performance problems I was having. The process took hours and I ended up being right the entire time.
I originally had my own little reasons for not wanting to update but decided I would try Yosemite since I didn't really have much of a choice at this point. I have now given it a good month and have concluded that this OS version is completely useless to me and near unusable.
A small list of the more annoying problems:
Photoshop crashes and/or needs restarting constantly
my Wacom Tablet doesn't function properly (or at all
my computer lags when I open Dashboard or App Exposé
I get the spinning beach ball for a good five seconds at times almost exclusively when using a feature of my computer such as Finder, Pages, iTunes, etc.
computer feels like it is lacking in specs
Additionally, there are a dozen little things about the way Yosemite behaves and looks that I find hard to ignore. I WOULD ignore these things if my software worked properly.
Yes, I did try reinstalling programs and drivers; no it didn't help.
I paid for a computer running Mountain Lion because I knew I could do my art on it, play the games I wanted, and do word processing the way I liked. Is there any way at all (no matter how long or difficult a process) to downgrade back to 10.8? And specifically without voiding my warranty?
I really don't want to be forced back to buying Windows but I spent a lot of money on something that is now not functioning in a way I can use it ):
    TL;DR
had 10.8. needed to update to 10.10 so AppleCare would believe that I had hardware problems. Hardware is now replaced and I need 10.8 back without voiding my warranty.

My problem is the laptop came with Mountain Lion on it and I spent 2.5 DAYS in recovery trying to redownload the OS to install.

That took about an hour and after the recovery finally opened I was prompted with downloading "Lion" instead of "Mountain Lion" I proceeded. It installed overnight. Now my Macbook has Lion on it and the only way to get Mountain Lion back is in the App Store for $20....
This does not make much sense if the Laptop had Mountain Lion on it from new. Internet Recovery downloads the current version of the OS that the machine was built with, are you sure that you did not upgrade to ML from Lion?
If you did you can redownload Mountain Lion for no charge.

  • Can you install Lion over the top of Mountain Lion to get rid of these awful Logic glitches?

    Folks -
I too have experienced the 'help! Logic is running away with itself and won't respond to me' scenario. I thought it was just me at first... I know there are several other folks that are having other problems ranging from annoyances to show-stoppers.
In my case, the biggest problem is that my Mackie Control (original; version 1.02)that has worked flawlessly in the past is plagued with the following symptoms:
Frequently is not detected or initialized when Logic starts up. This always worked prior to Mountain Lion.
If it IS detected, it will get a MIDI download from Logic so that all of the screen text and values come up, but none of the input functions (i.e. raising/lowering a fader on the control surface) are picked up/executed by Logic. I have tried different MIDI ports and cables and no change in the problem.
This control surface is pretty important for my workflow. I am seriously considering downgrading back to Lion, if it's possible.
Does anyone know if it is possible/safe to install Lion back on top of Mountain Lion? The glitches in Logic with Mountain Lion have made the system unstable and fairly unusable.
    Thanks!
    Pete

Turns out that the problem REALLY WAS MOUNTAIN LION!
I had a clone of my Mountain Lion disk in my Mac Pro. I do a full clone every night, so I booted from that, and erased my primary disk.
Then, I used Time Machine to go back to just before I installed Mountain Lion and then booted from the Lion DVD that I had made when Lion launched (see Google for this). I recovered to my erased disk, and 2.5 hours later I had a full 10.7.4 system up and running on my primary disk. This WORKS!!! I have just tried Logic, and the problems I was having disappeared. The Mackie Control surface is now responsive, and I'll bet Logic doesn't run away anymore either. Great tools - Carbon Copy Cloner (I'm a registed user) and Time Machine saved my butt.
