Downgrading Pavilion 500-037cb from Win 8.1 to Win 7

I've been perusing the forum for a while now, and I couldn't find an example of my particular problem.  Whether that is because I cannot search a forum or because this particular issue hasn't come up before I can't say...but I digress.
Short version: I think I need Windows 7 drivers for a computer that came with Windows 8 installed.  I'm having trouble getting my mouse and keyboard to play nicely during the Windows 7 install process, but there may be a deeper issue at hand.
Long version (and thank you for reading this far, at least): I would like to "downgrade" my Windows 8.1-equipped computer.  I say "downgrade" but I would actually like to dual-boot both Windows 7and Windows 8.1 if possible.  I thought I knew what I was doing, but I've hit a wall (one which is likely very easy to surmount, but for whatever reason has got me stuck).
My HP Pavilion 500-037cb has been a decent cpu thus far, and I even am getting used to Windows 8.  However, there is a certain program--autocad 2012--that has compatibility issues with anything past Windows 7, and I must be able to run it for my employer.  I was told that there would be no problem downgrading the 500 to Win7, but I'm learning now that this computer was never set up to run Windows 7.  I've tried going through hp's site to find a quick fix, but I've thus far come up empty.
First, I partitioned my drive in anticipation of the dual-boot setup.  I ordered a legit copy of Windows 7 and I followed youtube and other internet how-to's in order to alter the UEFA/BIOS in order to boot from the DVD drive.  When it came time to go through Window 7's install wizard, I could not get the keyboard or the mouse to interact with the cpu at all.  No clicking, no wiggling, no ctl-alt-del-ing, no ctl-shift-esc-ing, no nothing.  After restarting and reattempting twice, I presume that the issue is that my drivers are not set up to communicate with the impending Win7 install.  (To be honest, I don't know why this would be, as new computers are installed without internet-borne drivers every day, but I wonder if this Windows8-based computer has some sort of allergy to the HP hardware when installing Win7.)
I've read some advice given (such as from Mr. Paul Tikkanen at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c03736054&lc=en&jumpid=reg_r1002_us... and other places) but I saw CPUs that were either notebooks or otherwise unlike my 500-037cb.  Would other 500-series advice help me?  Could I use the advice of laptop questions in lieu of actual 500-037cb advice?
Furthermore, am I able to dual boot Win 8.1--> 8.1+7, or must I wipe the computer and install fresh as in 7-->7+8?  Is there any reason why the drivers would actually be the problem?  I'm able to handle a word document pretty well, but traipsing around the BIOS was hard enough, now this UEFI or whatever is cooking my goose.
Thank you for putting up with this odyssey of a forum question.  Hopefully someone can guide me back to Ithaca, if you'll excuse the pandering.

Hello Mr. Tikkanen.  Thank you very much for your response.
I remember reading something about the difficulties of USB 3.0 vs. 2.0, but it didn't occur to me to switch my mouse and keyboard plug-in.
Unfortunately, my employer decided to buy a new Windows 7-capbable cpu this morning instead of having me install Win7 on the current cpu.  I was going to implement your suggestion today, but my copy of 7 was already shipped back by the time I got in today.
I actually kind of want to try it anyway for the sport of it.  I promise that, if it comes to it and I'm asked to install it later, I will attempt your suggestion and update this forum with my results.
Thank you, Mr. Tikkannen, and thanks to all you experts that search through the forums and help us get along.  It is very much appreciated.

    Hi campus56,
If you didn't create Win XP's recovery discs, then you would need to order them from lenovo, whether you're upgrading or downgrading it's always recommended to create recovery discs through ThinkVantage of your previous OS.
    Hope this helps.

I'm not sure if you are asking if you can or telling us you are doing it, either way if you can you may need to get the media from Lenovo, or stick with 8 and wait a month then get yourself Windows 10

  • Suddenly no sound coming from HP Pavilion 500-339 Desktop

I've had this computer less than a month without any issues. From a couple days ago there is no sound coming from any source (various speakers, headphone jack directly into computer).
I have checked everything, i.e., checked all the external cables, used the Windows diagnostics and checked all sound devices, volume settings, checked for mute etc. No issues have been detected with the audio hardware and drivers.
I've also done a system restore, removed recent Windows updates (within the week), uninstalled and reinstalled the IDT high-def audio drivers and still nothing.  Every time I do a diagnostic it says the audio is working properly yet no sound comes out for anything.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello @Brian13,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I understand that your audio on your HP Pavilion 500-339 Desktop PC is not working. I am providing you with an HP Support document: Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8), which you can use to restore your computer back to a point in time where your sound worked correctly.
If the Microsoft System Restore does not resolve your sound issue I would like you to use the HP Support document: Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 8) to put the original audio driver back in your computer. As this is the driver that came with your computer it should work correctly.
If the above steps do not fix your sound issue I think we should try a backup and recovery of your computer. To backup your personal information and ensure that it is not lost I would like you to review and follow the steps set out in the HP Support document: Backing Up Your Files (Windows 8), which will ensure your personal files are up to date.
***WARNING!! If you want to keep any emails or bookmarks/favorites you will want to back those up as well as I do not believe they are backed up in the HP Backup process.
Next, I would like you to review and follow the steps set out in the HP Support document: Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 8), which will you through recovering your computer back to factory settings.
*** IMPORTANT - Your personal files such as libraries, personalization settings, user accounts, and desktop themes are permanently removed. As well the computer settings are returned to the defaults (the way it was when it came from the factory). All apps and software that were installed on the computer when it came from the factory are reinstalled, and their settings are reset to the defaults. Additionally, software, apps, programs, and everything that you have installed or saved on the computer are permanently removed.

  • Windows 7 setup fails due to missing driver (HP Pav 500-417ng with Win 8.1)

    Hi,
I have added a SSD to my hp pavilion 500-417NG and want to install Windows 7 64Bit incl. SP1 to the SSD.
I'm using an USB stick to boot Win 7 setup.
Setup is starting as usual, allows me to select language, keyboard etc. and to start install.
Than it throws an error, stating a driver is missing and only provides options to search or retry.
I have downloaded all HP Win 7 drivers and made them available in a folder which is accessible during setup, but driver will not be found.
So I need to cancel setup.
    Any ideas?

The computer will also beep 6 times in a row stop then repeat the beeps 5 times if i have the 6 pin connector plugged into the graphics card. The gtx 650 works just fine in my other computer with this same power supply.

    Melton80, welcome to the forum.
Your computer is running Win 8.1 which comes with a UEFI BIOS.  It may be that the GTX 650 is not supported by the BIOS.  If this is the case, you will have to go into the BIOS and enable the Legacy option.

now Im stuck in windows 7 (64 bits) and I got problem with the drivers
i mean i dont have any drivers at all
    can anyone help me?
I appreciate any help from anyone..
    Sorry for the broken english.
    Thanks!

    Hi:
It looks like you can use the W7 x64 drivers and software from the below model which has the same motherboard as yours.
    http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-p7-1300-Desktop-PC-series/5258500/model/5197677/driv...
You would use the nVidia graphics drivers because your model has a nVidia graphics card.
The only driver that I think won't work is the wireless card drivers there.  You need the driver for an atheros wireless card according to the picture on your PC's support page.
So, see if this Atheros wireless card driver works...

  • After upgrading from Win 8 to 8.1 my DVD RAM GT80N SATA Drive is no longer working

After upgrading from Win 8 to 8.1 my  DVD RAM GT80N SATA Drive is no longer recognizing discs. When I first put a disc in the drive runs for a bit and then stops. I've tried updating the driver but it says it has the most current driver. Under manage, it does not show any error codes and it says it is working correctly. I've looked at the regedit and it does not have any of upper and lower filters. I've tried disabling, rebooting, and reenabling. What am I missing? Another issue I've had since upgrading is that my network adapter needs reset several times a day in order to remain connected to wifi.

  • Have to regularly restart DHCP Client - HP Pavilion 500-205 DT - Windows 7

    HP Pavilion 500-205 DT - Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1
Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller - Driver 7.67.1226.2012
Bought 3 identical machines for our childcare center. Set them up the same. All work fine except ONE of them becomes inaccessible periodically (daily more-or-less) to the other Windows computers on our little peer-to-peer LAN. You can see it, but cannot access any shared folder. There is NO problem accessing the OTHER computers on the LAN from this one. All 3 machines have the same sharing profile, workgroup, permissions, AV, firewall settings, everything. I realized restarting the computer in question solved the problem immediately but temporarily. I narrowed it down to restarting the DHCP Client service. Do that, everything works fine immediately but temporarily.
    Things I tried:
Calling HP support - not helpful at all. It is under warranty.
    Disabled IPv6
    Disabled wireless
Disabled power-saving shutoff of network adapter
    Setting DHCP CLIENT recovery to:
First Failure = Restart the the Service
Second Failure = Restart the the Service
Subsequent Failures = Restart the the Service
Reset Fail count After = 120
     Restart Service after = 0
But again, this isn't happening to the other machines with default settings. Nothing works except restarting the DHCP Client service. The loss of access happens with or without someone logged or using it. It has happened since it was first set up.
I don't know if the HP warranty covers factory-loaded OS. I don't want to restore the thing and start over. I am not an IT professional, just the guy in the office who does these things, but it seems like the network adapter could be defective. I don't know if I can convince a first-level phone support person to have me bring the machine to an authorized service place.
    Any help greatly appreciated,
    Larry

    You're very welcome.
I would tend to agree, but I wanted to offer you that driver as a last resort.
This is a consumer to consumer forum.  I don't work for HP, and if you suspect it is a hardware issue, you will need to contact HP technical support and submit a support case under the warranty.
The warranty covers hardware, and support for the HP software and operating system installed (as long as it is the original factory image that came with the PC and not an operating system you installed).

    Hi, Daniel:
There is no 32 bit support for your model.
You will have to experiment with drivers from business models and drivers from the hardware component mfr's websites.
You can try these for starters:
    1. Chipset driver. Install first and reboot.
    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=816&DwnldID=20775&keyword=chipset+ins...
    2. Graphics driver.

    3. Audio. This one I am not sure of, and you may never get the audio to work (try updating from the device manager and use the automatic search once you can connect to the internet).

  • How to Downgrade Windows 8.1 to Win 7 enterprise using Win 7 upgrade media installed on the DVD ???

    Hello Team,
I have installed the windows 8.1x32 SL ENG OEM licensed version on my business computer.
Now I want to downgrade it to WINDOWS 7 using a windows 7 upgrade DVD. Also I have the volume licensing key with me of Windows 7 enterprise edition. Right now , I am willing to install it on ONLY ONE computer.
So, all I need is your help in the installation process .......install now & next steps of installation.

Actually that's where you are wrong, according to Microshaft's website, Windows 8.1 PRO installations have "downgrade rights" BUT ONLY to Win 7 PRO or Win Vista Business (BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA that's a joke)
    http://www.microsoft.com/oem/en/licensing/sblicensing/pages/downgrade_rights.aspx#fbid=-wiBOot8mXl
Sadly this leaves Enterprise/Business editions out of the question...This has been extremely bothersome considering BitLocker is only included in Win 7 Business and higher (Being part of a HIPPA compliant Mental Health Agency this is EXTREMELY important
to our functioning, especially now that TrueCrypt has ended their support and no longer even offers a download that will let you encrypt the system drive! Leaving us fumbling around trying to find a new solution)
Actually as I wrote this, I uncovered this amazing little PDF from Microsoft explaining with exact details
    http://download.microsoft.com/download/6/8/9/68964284-864d-4a6d-aed9-f2c1f8f23e14/Downgrade_Rights.pdf
You must upgrade your Windows 8.1 Pro to Enterprise Edition (I've been told the upgrade is only 40$ (USD)) then you may Downgrade to Win 7 Enterprise...Still a little bit obnoxious just to downgrade but if you aren't working for a company with 100s of PCs
(Like me) I guess it's not so bad.

  • Add a Second Hard Drive to a Pavilion 500-314 Desktop

I have just purchased a Pavilion 500-314 desktop and desire to add a second SATA hard drive from the computer it is replacing.  When I open the case I find four SATA connections but nowhere to physically mount the second hard drive.  The drive bay is large and basically empty with the included hard drive mounted to the drive bay cage.  There are no slots for additional drives.  When I called HP I was told this chassis supports only one drive even though it has four SATA connectors on the motherboard.  Is there an adapter that can be purchased to create additional slots or am I out of luck with additional internal drives?
