Downgrading Safari?

I need to get my Mac back to Safari 3.0 from the current 5.0 upgrade that has been installed. Can anyone help me figure out how to do this? I am unable to print coupons off a website because my version of Safari is too advanced. Ugh. Need help.

HI,
Safari 4.0.5 will have to do. Go here for instructions.

  • Downgrade Safari to 4.0.5 after OS 10.6.4 update possible?

Has anyone successfully downgraded safari 5 to ver. 4.0.5 after doing the latest OS 10.6.4 upgrade?
Specifically, I was going to use pacifist to do this, as described in the following thread:

Hi Andy, thanks for your reply. I went to the Multisafari site http://michelf.com/projects/multi-safari/ and they have this posted: "These special versions of Safari use the original Web Kit framework that came with them, bundled inside the application. They will mimic original Safari rendering and javascript behaviours. *HTTP requests and cookies however are still handled by the system and may not work exactly the same."* My questions are, 1. could this have a bad result (the HTTP requests and cookies thing)?, and, 2. Has anyone successfully used this particular fix after 10.6.4?
    Thanks,

  • Downgrade Safari 5.0.5

    Hi Group!
I need to downgrade Safari 5.0.5 to 5.0.3 for use with an Internal application here at work.
I followed the steps on a few other forums but for whatever reason, the 5.0.3 installer appear to have detected something else within the OS related to 5.0.5.
Everytime I try to install 5.0.3, I get: Safari can't be installed on this disk. This Volume already has a newer version of Safari installed.
    Anyone know what i missed?
I thought i removed everything. Guess not!
    Please help.
    Thanks!

You probably missed the receipts files.
    Quit Safari.
    Delete Safari
Delete the receipts files at /Library/Receipts/Safari5.pkg
    Empty Trash
Mount the Safari 5.0.3 dmg file (which you presumably already have) and install it
    Restart your Mac
    Repair permissions

  • How do I downgrade Safari 4.0.3 to 4.0.2?

I use Saft for Safari and it hasn't been updated yet. I'd like to downgrade to 4.0.2. until that happens. Is there an easy way to do it? I have Time Machine backups from before I did the upgrade. Can I simply retrieve the Safari 4.0.2 app from one of those backups and replace 4.0.3 with it?

Have you tried basics from the manual?
    Restart, reset, restore

  • Woo Hoo !! Downgraded Safari to 4.0.5.... ALL of the performance is back !

    Hello All,
I used Pacifist to downgrade from Safari 5.0.3 to 4.0.5.
Wow ! Now I remember what a great web browser my Mac offered !
FAST refreshes, FAST screen paints, NO...and I mean NO Flash issues.
I highly recommend you downgrade your browser from 5.0 to 4.0.
You will immediately see the difference and remember what a fast, efficient browser looks like on your Mac.

I couldn't believe the astonishing and immediate difference.
THIS is the fast MacBook Pro I bought. Safari 5 had me feeling like I was stuck back in IE w/ WinDOS.
    It's a very easy procedure....
    1) Download Safari 4.0.5 from here:
    http://mac.softpedia.com/progDownload/Safari-Download-25616.html
    2) Download Pacifist from here:
    http://www.charlessoft.com/
    3) Close safari 5.0
    4) Launch Pacifist
    5) Click the "Open Package' button
    6) Navigate to, and select the Safari 4.0.5 package you downloaded
    7) From the Pacifist window you will be navigated to, select the top level of the package in the"Package Contents" box
    8) Click "Install" in the upper left of the window.
    9) When prompted, Select "Use Administrator Privileges"
    10) When prompted select "Replace" and check the "do not ask me again" box.
    Done !
Enjoy having your fast browser back !

  • Safari 4.1.1 Fails Prebinding.  How to Downgrade Safari.

This issue appeared on some 10.4.11 systems after the release of Safari 3.2, and was subsequently corrected; but, has reappeared with the release of Safari 4.1.1.
Some say that Prebinding does not matter after Panther. A Cocoa programmer has pointed out that failure-to-Prebind may cause Frameworks corruption. I think this view is accurate. I hope Apple fixes the issue quickly, as they did when the problem arose with Safari 3.2.
In the meantime, here's a link on how to downgrade to Safari 4.0.5, for those who are interested:

  • Is it possible to downgrade Safari

I'm using MAC 10.7.4 and have a compatibility issue with a plugin for Safari which doesn't work correctly on Safari 5.1.7.
I was wondering whether it is possible to downgrade to Safari  5.1.3 if the more recent version has already been installed on the Mac?

Afraid not - it was a new replacement machine preloaded with the MAC 10.7.4 with Safari 5.1.7

  • How do I downgrade safari 6 to 5.1.7 in Lion?

I installed Safari 6 in Lion more or less by accident. I didn't notice it in Software Update, I guess that's my bad. I really hate Safari 6, If it does load or render faster then it's not fast enough for me to notice and it is full of quirks and bugs. The tabs thing is annoying and I don't like the magic uni-bar type anything here.
I found 5.1.7 online but can't figure out how to delete Safari 6. I could go in and do it the Unix way but that may break dependencies.
Any advice would be most apprecieated.

When I wrote the command :
         rm -rf /Applications/Safari.app
in Terminal, not only was Safari deleted, but all my other applications began to disappear also, as I saw them being deleted one by one in my open Applications folder.
What in the world did I do wrong ?
What if I wrote an extra space after the first "/"  ( rm -rf / Applications/Safari.app )  ?
Or, did this happen because my Applications folder was open ?
    Absolute mystery to me !
Lucky I had a fresh Carbon Copy Cloner backup on hand. I got everything back to work in a mere 20 minutes.
Anyone has a clue ? Because I would really like to reinstall Safari 5.1.7 in my Lion partition.

  • Safari 7.1 seed 1 crash several third party apps. How to downgrade to 7.0.5 for now?

I Have upgraded my rMBP mid 2912 15 inches model running OSX 10.9.4 to Safari 7.1 seed 1 Yesterdaypray, as it just pop up on MAS. After the upgrade, most software run fine including Safari but there are several third party apps problem caused by Netscapepulginhostserver in the new webkit that come with Safari 7.1
PdFPen Pro 4.3.1 crash when started, it cannot connect to webview using webkit. View ever for GMail purchased from MAS hang in the similar manner with ODFPen Pro when attempt to open the app in desktop view. But Viewer for GMail work in mobile view.
i Have contacted support of both software but cannot get support. So this is very strange where Apple release beta on production machine for normal users.
how can I downgrade Safari to 7.0.5? I heard that Apple just released the downgrade option in MAS yesterday July 16 but it still not show up in my Thailand MAS.
can any friend point me to manually download and install Safari 7.0.5 so I can run other third party apps without too much hassles and problems
    HElp and advsie Is appreciated.

I have tried reinstall 10.9.4 combo. The installation went fine but Safari 7.1 seed 1 was not replaced by 7.0.5 at all. It is still 7.1 seed 1 after reinstall the combo update. However, yo my surprise, all third parties apps that have problem and hang like Tuba, PDFPen Pro, and desktop view of Viewer for GMail start functioning as it should be.
iin all, I still have Safari 7.1 seed 1 on my system but now problems with third party apps seems to go away.

  • Safari Downgrade

How do you downgrade Safari? I got auto-upgraded to 3.0.4 this week, and several web sites I need don't work any more. Their javascript buttons don't appear and don't work.
No worries, I uninstalled Safari, and ran the SafariSetup program. Now I have Safari 3.0. When I go to Software Update, my only choice is Safari 3.0.4. Since that doesn't work, I'd rather get 3.0.3 that Software Update installed back in August. It's a shame that Software Update knows it installed 3.0.3 in August, but doesn't know how to do it anymore. I've searched in downloads for 3.0.3, but all the pages seem to want to send me the most current = broken version.
Is there a "detailed" mode for Software update, or an ordinary "previous versions" download site?

there were two of them. the "old" interface 3.0.3. which was for download on apple.com like a week ago and the newer one 310A16 i think. it already had the new interface and worked pretty well for me. since upgrading to the new 3.0.4. i have sites that won't work at all. i mean safari just crashes whenever i open them. i can't figure out why. for example appleinsider.com crashes. merrian-webster dictionary crashes. i noticed that on vista. my girlfriend has a xp pro pc and safari 3.0.4. and it works like a charm.

Well I'll tell you how I got into this state :
After a few hours of work with safari I decided to update it to 6.0.2 in OS X lion 10.7.2 although it was for Mountain Lion and I didn't know it :|.
after running it I saw that it isn't compatible and I had to downgrade it to 5.1.1 (the last version) so I downloaded 5.1.1 from the internet and Installed but nothing changed.
I found somewhere in the internet that by using pacifist I can downgrade Safari 5 to 4 so I tried it (I wasn't sure) and for the first time I removed the tick "use administrator privilages" and everything failed but then I put the tick and replaced everything and this error came (or a similar error).I don't know the installer was corrupted or what I replaced was wrong. Then I reinstalled 6 with the hope that with the uninstaller I found I can remove it and get the working 5.1.1 but again this 5.1.1 and the error came.
Then I updated OS for updating to safari 5.1.7 and 6 but none worked and now I don't know what to do.I even tried Disk Utility but that didn't work either.
So I overcame by your help.
    Pls help me.Thanks.

  • I've given up on Safari, it's worthless.

A browser is only as good as the webpages that actually work with it. Safari has great intentions, but what's the point in having this great browser if so many webpages are designed with IE and Firefox in mind? Shoot, as flawed as IE is, at least you don't have to worry if a webpage will run on it.
I guess it's back to Firefox I go.

Whatever problems you are having with Safari 3.1 are not universal, and can often be rectified by checking a few things:
    1. Did you install the correct version for your operating system?
    2. Did you follow the recommended procedure for undertaking updates and upgrades? If you are not sure, please ask.
    3. Do you have any third party 'enhancements' that may not play well (yet) with Safari 3.1? If you are not sure, please ask.
    4. Have you tried what in many cases cures the problem, namely repairing permissions and then re-running the latest Combo Update for your operating system, and restarting your Mac?
    5. Have you tried putting these in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
You may decide that the only solution for you, despite having gone through the steps outlined above, is to revert to Safari 3.0.4. Unfortunately, downgrading Safari from 3.1 to 3.0.4 isn't a simple process. The Safari installer modifies a number of files other than the Safari application itself, including WebKit and others. This may have implications for other applications like Mail, iTunes and various widgets. You will also lose the security fixes in the 3.1 upgrade. But here is one way to do it:
If you don't have it already, download Pacifist from:
    http://www.charlessoft.com/
    and install it.
Open Pacifist, and drag the icon of the OS 10.4.11 Combo Updater (if you are using Tiger), or the OS 10.5.2 Combo Updater (if you are using Leopard) to the Pacifist window.
Select /Applications/Safari.app from the list. Use the "Install" button at the top of the Pacifist window to force an installation of Safari.
Next, select /System/Library/Frameworks/WebKit.framework and install it in the same manner. Restart your Mac.
N.B. Repair permissions and restart both before and after installation.
But you may care to read about what the Safari 3.1 update included:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307467
and here about the security content of Safari 3.1:

  • Safari 5.1 under 10.6.8: various issues (responsability, scrolling, etc)

    Hi,
here my observations, issues after upgrading to Safari 5.1 (from 5.0.1) under 10.6.8.
Scrolling is often choppy (with two fingers, with scroll wheel). Terribly annoying.
There is – not always, bit quite often – a strange refresh-effect when switching tabs or windows: the switched-to tab/windows goes blank for a very short moment before it comes back with its content (no reload involved, apparently just a display issue), of course terribly annoying.
Text input is lagging (like here, like now).
The beach ball is seen way too often, and way more often than in 5.0.1.
Text selection is lagging. You have to do it veeeeeerrrrry sloooooowly.
I guess, you can sum it up this way: responsability and UI interaction is not right.
This is not the case with regard to page loads, which is snappy, probably even better than in 5.0.1.
Another point: Window switching changed its algorithm back to how it used to be quite some time ago (maybe pre 5.x): The order of the windows does not get re-shuffled, but stays the way it was – so, on the one hand, you have to ‘caroussel’ to all of the windows to get back to the first; on the other hand, you don’t see (as in Safari 5.0.x) one window again and again just because you paused switching for a moment, or closed out some tab. A bit hard to describe, but I guess people will recognize what I mean.
Both algorithms have their pros and cons. I guess I like 5.1’s change back to the ‘traditional’ better, but it’s also a matter of taste, I guess.
RAM usage is pretty hefty as well: “Safari Web Content” 720MB, “Safari” 267MB, Flash Player (Safari Internet plug-in) 25,8MB – I have 2 GB RAM installed.
Text input is horribly lagging. Consider me brave to have finished this posting here.
    Please, Webkit/Safari team, fix it.
    Best,
    Peter

Good news: I can report that you can successfully and easily downgrade from Safari 5.1 to 5.0.5 under 10.6.8 by means of Charlessoft’s excellent (und for a long time well respected [I’m in now way affiliated with Charlessoft]) tool Pacifist (http://www.charlessoft.com/).
Just download this Safari 5.0.5 installer (for Snow Leopard) from Apple’s site (I hope it’s okay to put this link up here; of course Apple prefers you to download only its very latest – alas, the problems with this very latest is why you’re reading this post):
    http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/Safari5/041-0564. 20110413.Fi9pb/Safari5.0.5SnowLeopard.dmg
Then proceed as described here (look for the part named “Force Install”; don’t get confused that it mentions older Safari versions, like 5.0 and 4.0.5, the procedure is the same now):
    http://appletoolbox.com/2010/06/down...-safari-4-0-5/
Also see the concise documentation that comes with Pacifist.
Basically, in all the dialogues coming up just choose “Replace” (not “Update”), a choice clearly marked in Pacifist’s documentation for cases of downgrading. One restart, and you’re back to Safari 5.0.5 without touching any other part of your OS. And, of course, Safari 5.0.5 is supposed to work under 10.6.8, since it gets installed with the 10.6.8 Combo Update, so no surprise.
(Why not just use the above linked 5.0.5 updater, by double-clicking it? This updater denies to install 5.0.5 under 10.6.8, instead claiming to require 10.6.7 – but this seems to be due only to the fact that at the time the Safari 5.0.5 installer was current, 10.6.7 was the up-to-date version of Snow Leopard. And again, I’m writing this post – and, other than the one above which I wrote from within Safari 5.1, without any hiccups – from within Safari 5.0.5, which “flies” compared to my 5.1 experience under the very same, otherwise untouched 10.6.8 installation.)
Just one further caution: After the downgrade, Safari 5.0.5 cannot re-open the last session’s (the one under Safari 5.1) windows and tabs (something to be quite expected); so, in case, bookmark accordingly before initializing the downgrade. (And, of course, you do not loose any other information, like bookmarks, history, passwords, etc. The downgrade does not effect any kind of “brutal” reset of Safari.)
Finally, after the downgrade OS X’s Software Update does offer you the update of Safari 5.1. So, you clearly can get back again to the newest and latest if you wish to.
    Best.
