Downgrading to earlier version of device software

I upgraded the device software on my Curve 8520 today to the 5.0 Bundle 1626 version and I really don't like it. I tried to do the downgrade to my previous software wirelessly but the phone isn't giving me the option...can anyone walk me thru doing the downgrade using my desktop software?
Thanks for any help.
Vince

That portal provides you with all of the official releases from all carriers. There is no other official site to obtain OS packages from. Further, anything not from that portal could be considered a "leaked" version...which would likely be, by definition, not stable. The carriers control the OS versions they support and only offer those via the download portal. Naturally, they must declare end of life to older OS levels as newer OS levels come into existence. Typically, a carrier will keep a couple of OS levels per device active, but that's totally at their discretion.
Good luck!

  • How to download earlier version of desktop software

On the home page there is a link saying "Download earlier version of PC software", however when you click on it, it only allows you to download 7.1
Not very impressed with BlackBerry at the moment....

Did you try the link provided in the post above yours? Sadly, from "Still can't seem to download any versions other than the latest", I cannot tell if you attempted that or not. There is also this thread:

It starts with a process for cleanly starting over, and there is some discussion, and there is also a post (15) with links to older Desktop Software versions, if those are needed. Note that this is not, by any means, guaranteed to work...but it has worked for many to resolve issues they are having.

  • What's New & Different w/ this version of Device Software 5.0?

A few months ago, Blackberry game out with version 5.0 Device software.  They then took it off their website.  Now they brought it back.  What's new with version 5.0?  What does it fix/improve from 4.5?  Also, what's different with this release of version 5 over the previous release?  Anyone know?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

RIM produces the OSes, then sends them to the carriers for testing.  The carriers then test the versions and decide which version(s) they will release.  Sprint, Verizon, Telus, Bell, and so on, all do their own testing on their networks and decide which OS version they want without consulting with the other carriers.  So Sprint may be on one version, Verizon on another, etc.
When it comes to the actual release, after the carriers decide which version they want to release, they work with RIM to release the OS.  This includes adding carrier information to the OS (via the Vendor.xml file) which restricts the release to just that carrier (i.e. so you can't install an OS for Verizon on a Sprint phone (extra steps are required for that to work)).  Notifications are then sent out to users using the subscriber information for that carrier.
I hope that explains it a bit more.

  • How do I downgrade to old version of ipod software?

I'm relatively clueless, and frustrated. We have yet to update our Windows XP 2002 to service pack 2 because of problems we had when we last updated. But, I received a ipod nano (8 GB "red" if that makes a difference) as a gift and would like to use it! Problem is after initially working well, then wierd stuff started happening, so I went to the Apple store and they suggested I upgrade ipod software and itunes, which I did and now the computer cannot even see my ipod. I called for help and they wouldn't tell me how to revert to old ipod software, but I don't even know which version I had and now need to be compatible with service pack 1. I should also revert to an older version of itunes, but again, which one? And, how do I do these changes? Thanks for any advice

The way iTunes 11 treats audiobooks hasn't changed, but you may have to hunt a little for some of the menu options... You may also find Audiobooks on iPods useful.
You can restore much of the look & feel of the previous version with these shortcuts:
ALT to temporarily display the menu bar
CTRL+B to show or hide the menu bar
CTRL+S to show or hide the sidebar
CTRL+/ to show or hide the status bar (won't hide for me on Win XP)
Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library to restore the old search behaviour
Use View > Hide <Media Kind> in the cloud or Edit > Preferences > Store anduntick Show iTunes in the cloud purchases to hide the cloud items. The second method eliminates the cloud status column (and may let iTunes start up more quickly)
If you don't like having different coloured background & text in the Album view use Edit > Preferences > General and untick Use custom colours for open albums, movies, etc.
If you still feel the need to roll back to iTunes 10.7 first download a copy of the 32 bit installer or 64 bit installer as appropriate, uninstall iTunes and supporting software, i.e. Apple Application Support & Apple Mobile Device Support. Reboot. Restore the pre-upgrade version of your library database as per the diagram below, then install iTunes 10.7.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to scan the media folder and catch up with any changes made since the backup file was created.

  • How to downgrade to earlier version of Quicktime?

I've been having trouble with awful stuttering in iMovie 4. In another thread ("video stutter in very simple video project") it was suggested that iMovie4 does not run with QuickTime 7 (although they were bundled in my new OSX) and to downgrade to QuickTime 6. Having tried all other recommendations to no avail, I want to try the downgrade. Does anyone know how to do this? Or have any other information on this problem?

t was suggested that iMovie4 does not run with QuickTime 7 (although they were bundled in my new OSX) ...G3, 400 MHz, 576mb Ram, 80GB HD Mac OS X (10.3.9)
afaik, it is recommended to use
    10.3.x + QT 6.x + iM≤5
    or....
    10.4.x + QT 7.x + iM 6
plus, read the "recommended" hardware specs to run all the new, shiny software components.. I would NOT install 10.4/QT7 on an "antiqué" G3/400 ... I too own an old iBook G3/400.. with 10.3/QT6 and iM4...- works like charm, no need to upgrade ...
    Golden Rule No. 11:
    Never Change A Running System
.. and as Sue said: no way to downgrade from QT 7.02 .. only "escape" would be a clean reinstall from original, "old" installer disks ...
stuttering could have many other reasons ...
    * your Macs 80GB could be crowded/full ... you should allways keep 10 - 15GB free while working with video...
    * and, iM Grandmaster Karl Petersen made some observations, concerning "too many audio edits" in iMprojects.., long but helpful read here:

SUCCESS! THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH! (please keep reading there is a question at the end)
AW 6.2.9 is now on my G4.
Because of the way the Apple consultant at the Apple store set up our HDs when he installed Tiger for us, we had 2 copies already of AW 6.1. (We work from 3 external LaCie HDs)
I only updated the 6.1 that lives in Tiger. I left the other as is at 6.1 since I know it will open the older docs that I have and need there in OS 9. And it had a translator bundled in (by Dataviz if I recall) for other formats - I'm not sure if this nice feature still exists in the update.
The installer said it would install 6.2.8 (??) in OS 9 and 6.2.9 in OS X. But because I chose the AW 6 folder that lives in the X HD for the install, it only could access that and left the other alone.
    MY NEW QUESTION:
The font list is quite short. I really don't use a lot of fonts, but do favour Verdana which is not in the list. Any clues on this?
Thank you all again so much for your help with this problem,

  • Uninstalling DEVICE software

This may be a n00b question....so apologies in advance.
What's the best way to uninstall/remove the multiple versions of DEVICES
    software from my computer?
I am currently running the DESKTOP software v5.0.1.
These all have been for my VZW BB Tour 9630. I am expecting my new Bold 9650 today.
I currently have the following DEVICES software installed:
    v4.7.1
    v5.0.0.231
    v5.0.0.419
    v5.0.0.230
    v5.0.0.591 platform 4.2.0.272
    v5.0.0.591 platform 4.2.0.284
FIFO (First In First Out) - Start with v4.7.1 first?
    or
LIFO (Last In First Out) - Start with v5.0.0.591 platform 4.2.0.284?
    Thanks!

    Hello,
The order of uninstall should not matter. But, if it were me, I'd go in the reverse order that I installed them (LIFO). Given the amount of things you've got going on, I'd probably advise getting a registry cleansing tool and running that after you finish uninstalling and before you install anything new.
    Cheers!

  • Blackberry 10 the data isn't compatible with the version of the device software that you are currently running

    Hi,
my update to 10.3.1.1565 messed the handwriting input up on my phone.  so I tried to downgrade to 10.2.1, upon doing so all my files were wiped,  however I thought I was being smart by doing a complete backup this morning while running 10.3.1.1565 prior to attempting the os downgrade to 10.2.1 using BlackBerry Link,
Anyway I had to restore my device back to 10.3.1.1565 and now when I attempt to do a restore using the .bbb ( backup ) which I created earlier on today i.e getting the following error message:
blackberry 10 the data isn't compatible with the version of the device software that you are currently running
the software versions on my phone now and the software version when I did my backup are exactly the same 10.3.1.1565.  I'm able to restore my user files and apps ect, as it offers to do a partial restore,., but my contacts, and remember files are now gone.  I NEED THESE.  how do I get these back..
    please help..

  • How can I roll back to an earlier version of OS 7 software

Can anyone advise me on how to roll back to an earlier version of OS 7?
I installed v 7.0 Bundle 2406 a few weeks ago and have had constant synch problems since. Hello BobB10 and welcome to the BlackBerry® Support Community Forums.
Sorry to hear you are having issues with your BlackBerry® Torch™ 9860 smartphone.
It is not recommended to downgrade your software, however, if you wish to do so you will need to consult your mobile carriers download site at www.na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp and see if the previous software version is posted. If so, download and install it to your computer then use the BlackBerry® Desktop Software to install the older software version.
    Hope this answers your question.

  • Can software be downgraded?  New version won't allow iPod to be played through my speakers.

I'm not sure what version iOS my 4th Gen iPod Touch came with, but since upgrading to 4.3.1 it won't play through my Logitech Pure-Fi speakers.  Upgrading to 4.3.3 doesn't offer any features I need, so I'd liek to hear from someone who could step me through reverting back to an earlier version of software.
    Is this even possible?
    Thanks ;-)

There is no legitimate way to downgrade an iOS.  Sorry.

  • Problems upgrading to device software 5.0.0.973 on Storm 2 - had to downgrade to 5.0.0.497 again

I recently had my Storm 2 handset replaced under warranty.  In going through the process of updating/synchronising the new handset to my Outlook, I had problems with both Calendar and Contacts.
The Calendar problem turned out to be related to Contact anniversaries. I opened the contact, removed the birthday, saved the record and then added it back and saved it again.  The record then synced.
I had problems syncing contacts that had no email address in Email 1, but did have an email address in Email 2.  Once I moved those email addresses into the Email 1 field they synced ok.
Then the Desktop Manager told me to update the device software to version 5.0.0.973.  I went through the whole process and then checked the phone.  Calendar seemed to be ok, but all the contacts were gone - there was only one contact showing with about 360 duplicates.  I tried to resync with 'replace data' ticked and it made no difference.  I then deleted one of the many entries on the handset and they all disappeared at once.  So I created a manual contact entry on the handset and saved it - which also showed up as many pages of duplicate entries.
Next day, I synchronised my husband's Storm 2.  Desktop Manager told me to upgrade his device software, which I did... with exactly the same result as I got with mine.
I have now downgraded both handsets back to 5.0.0.497 and resynchronised to Outlook (one way from Outlook to Device, replacing all data) and both handsets are now operating properly.
I am using Desktop Manager 5.0.1 having upgraded to V6 and then having to downgrade to V5 again when it would not synchronise with Outlook.
Not happy with RIM for pushing 'upgrades' that fail and cause hours of work to restore to something that works.

RIM doesn't push the upgrades -- your service provider does so, once they have certified and approved the operating system upgrade for their devices.
But, .973 does work on the 9520 in the manner you wish it would, I've used it myself on that model.

  • How to downgrade my JDeveloper 11.1.2.4.0's project to earlier version for EM, Webcenter compatibility

    Greetings,
its been 4 months now im working on JDeveloper 11.1.2.4.0 with jsf 2.0 on weblogic standalone server.
I finally finish my big project, but now i want to use EM & Webcenter functionalities that works only at JDeveloper 11.1.1....
I don't want to start my project all over again so i was hoping there is a way to downgrade my project to earlier version of JDeveloper
that also supports earlier version of jsf (jsf is the library that messing up everything, specially EM, since jsf 2.0 is not supported)
will be thankful if you got any suggestions, steps or tutorial to downgrade my project so it can be used and deployed properly on 11.1.1.. JDeveloper
so i can use EM & Webcenter.

I just spend 6 hours at work, with no luck, managed to downgrade it, atleast jsf wise, but i got tons of errors every time i fix one. I should not mention the design mixup, just functionalities.
The next version will support the old versions of BI, Webcenter, EM etc or it will come along with new versions?
And did you hear how soon will be out? alteast in how many weeks to know what will be my next move.
    thanks.

Ralph, Thanks for replying. There where no received SIP messages at all just the INVITE being sent but I have made some more progress. The mini does indeed just work. I can do everything that you are supposed to do to other ichat users on the internet. Very nice.
The imac is still playing up but I have got further. I had peerguardian2 installed which unknown to me doesn't need to be running to prevent you for accessing 'barred' IP addresses. snatmap.mac.com is barred in the lists! I discovered this when I saw one of your other posts showed how to turn on terminal logging for ichat. Now that I have turned off peerguardian2 (using the disable filters option) I can make calls to the testbot and see the adverts. I have even done a video conference with the two testbots. I will just uninstall peerguardian2.
However, I can not get a AV chat working to a real user....
    In response to your suggestions:-
I have tried all the options for quicktime streaming but will try 1.5Mb/s again.
The ichat bandwidth limit is set to "none". I am in New Zealand and I have standard ADSL (not ADSL2+) 7.6M down 512K up. The mini config is also set to none.
    Internet sharing is off.
I have had parallels on the machine but the two interfaces that it installed "Parallels Host-Guest" and "Parallels NAT" are configured 'off' and show as not connected. Is this enough? I will uninstall parallels and see if that helps since I don't use it. I also have VMware's thing installed but that doesn't seem to add any interfaces.
I need to capture a full trace of the imac to other ichat user to see what is happening but will update when I have does your suggested changes or have a trace
    Thanks again

  • Desktop software version matching device OS version???

    Hello and good day,
I am very new to blackberry.  I just got an 8830.  I'm getting ready to download the desktop manager, and was wondering if (since my device's OS is v4.2.2.123), if I have to only download the desktop manager v4.2.... or can I get 4.5, or 4.6?  Also, I downloaded the upgrade to take my device OS to v4.2.2.196 so I can use a full 8gb card.  Any tips on how to install this onto my device (it's just currently on my desktop PC from where I downloaded it)?  Thanks for your time and patience, and have a great day!
    bp
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There is no relation with device software and desktop manager version. You can download and use the update 4.6 version with your Blackberry.
Check steps below for OS upgrade -
    Step #1
Before starting make sure that BlackBerry Desktop Software is installed on the computer.
    Step#2
Make sure that you have installed updated device software installed in your PC. Check this link to get update device software from carrier OS download site.
    Step#3
Users can perform a full or selective backup of the data using the Backup and Restore tool in BlackBerry Desktop Manager by completing the following steps:
Connect the BlackBerry device to the computer running BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
    Open BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
    Double-click Backup and Restore.
Select Backup to perform a full backup or select Advanced to perform a backup of specific databases.
Choose a location to save the backup file, then click Save.
    Step#4
To perform a clean install of the BlackBerry Device Software, perform the following steps:
Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to the computer and open BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
    Double-click the Application Loader icon.
Click Next to start the installation process.
Type your BlackBerry smartphone password, if prompted, and click OK.
Click the check boxes next to the names of the applications you want to load, and then click Next.
