I have an 80 Mbps internet download connection and it took 5 hours to download a movie with standard definition from itunes with my apple tv.  It took 3 minutes when I used netflix on my ps3.  Where is apple supports response to these issues?....there are thousands of posts of people with the same problems!  Speedtest.net confirms my download speed is 80 Mbps!  I have reset and restarted my apple tv and download speeds of movies are still unacceptably slow!  What is the point of these discussions when Apple techs don't even read or respond to our posts?
Not using OpenDNS by any chance?  Using OpenDNS has caused issues as some Apple server access gets re-routed to slow servers (Akamai servers from memory).

  • HT1551 How long should it take to download a movie on Apple TV?

I'm trying to download a movie using Apple TV.  Screem says Ready to play in 10 hours 58 minutes. However, the time changes to various different times such as 15 hours then 9 hour then 20 hours.
Am I using up my minutes as it is loading?  Should it take this long to load?

    Hi anobles,
Download times for purchases & rentals from the iTunes Store will vary depending on the speed of your internet connection. The Apple TV will regularly recalculate your estimated time to download based on the current download speed that it is seeing. You may find the following article useful:

  • 4 hours to download a movie? Apple TV or my internet provider's problem?

Never had this problem before ... most movies download in 10-15 minutes. Trying to rent Castaway, and it's saying it's going to be 4-5 hours to download! And trust me, it's moving agonizingly slow. Any suggestions?

    Hello scottsaints123,
I would be concerned too if the download speed was dramatically slower than usual when trying to download a movie.  I recommend following these steps:
Try restarting your router / base station and Apple TV
Restart your base station or router. Sometimes this is done by turning the router off for a few seconds, and then on again, but check the documentation provided by the manufacturer.
To restart your Apple TV, press and hold Menu and Menu down/scroll for about 6 seconds and then chooseRestart from the menu.
If the issue continues after restarting, reset your router or base station and Apple TV to factory settings
Reset your base station or router. Use the documentation provided by the manufacturer to reset to factory settings.
To reset your Apple TV perform a factory restore.

  • Why does it take hours to download a movie on Apple TV?

Recently I rented a movie on Apple TV, but it took ~5 hours to download it to my chagrin. Is that normal? Later, I down loaded my second movie rental (3-hours), watched a portion, came back to resume viewing, and had to slowly down load it a second time. Wha' hoppened?

What is the actual speed of your conection (www.speedtest.net)
    8mbps required for instant 1080P
    6mbps for 720P
Check istumbler or netstumbler for network interference
Make sure you're on your ISPs DNS

  • Why is it taking more than 18 hours to download a movie on apple tv?

I started downloading a movie on my apple tv last night. It initially said it was going to take over 4 hours for HD. When I tried to switch the setting to speed up the download, it increased the time to 11 hours.  18 hours later, it still has not finished downloading. What can I do to correct this situation?

This will depend on your network. Also, there is no accessible storage so if the device is turned off or other content accessed the movie will be flushed and require reload.
    Check speedtest.net
1080P requires 8mbps for instant stream
720P requires 6mbps for instant stream
Check istumbler.net to verify any interference on the network
Make sure you are on your ISPs DNS (settings - network - configure DNS - automatic)

  • HT1498 How long to download rented movies on apple tv

How long does it take to download a movie rental on Apple TV.  I purchased a movie the other day and was able to watch it in less than five minutes.  The rental says it will be "Ready to play" in more than an hour.  Is there a difference between renting and purchasing?  Does the age of the movie make a difference?
    thanks

    Hi,
I'm having this very same issue! Apparently Apple screwed up with the software update.

  • How to download rented movie to Apple TV

Does anyone have an issue with Apple TV not downloading movies. .. I just rented a movie, " download  to watch later" option.. And now when I try to watch it I'm told to go to settings and select download....Problem is there is no " download" option in settings, or am I missing something. ?

Yes Me Too, I just rented Ireon Man3 and it stopped about 2/3 the way through. Now I get the same messages as above. " You have already rented movie,  Check for downloads. But there is no option to check for downloads,
I  sure I use see available Rented movies on the Home screen. But perhaps I misremember. They are not there now or anywhere.

  • I can't download a movie on Apple TV 2

I rented two movies two weeks ago, downloaded and watched one last weekend.  Yesterday, many times, I tried to download the second.  Today the Apple TV still will not download, it says:  "an error occurred loading this content".
I have checked out all the settings and they are correct.  I have performed the Apple Network Test and it came back "successfully completed".  I have the latest updates for my iMac, iTunes and the Apple TV.
There are 15 days left on the rental (today is May 4th, 2011)
I What can I do now?

Hi Chenks, Geordie, Macaby and Bobwild,
Thank you for all your suggestions.  I have tried them all with no luck.  However, when the movie disappeared from my rented list on the ATV, with still 14 days rental left, I contacted iTunes, and like Macaby they refunded my money.  Since this happened I have downloaded rentals into my iTunes Movie folder and watched them over my network connection... this is all very well but we all still have machines which do not work!
One of these days Apple will come out with a patch and it will be OK again.
Incidentally my carrier is Telus, I don't know the download speed, but I am told its fast.
Again, thank you.  I have kept the emails of your advice and if I find an answer I will send it to you as I hope you will for me.

  • HT1577 It takes over an hour to download a movie to apple tv!

According to the estimated download chart, a movie should take 18-24 mins over a 5Mbps internet connection. I've been waiting for over an hour and my apple tv is saying another hour +!
I have changed my settings to only allow standard def videos and yes I've updated the software on the ATV. This is totally REDICULOUS! Apple, clearly there are ways to make this content transfer quicker. What gives?

Download finally done. Choppy... as in unwatchable and the sound doesn't match the video. How do I get the money on my acount back? First go at itunes and well, once is more than enough. *****, ***** *****!!!!

  • Downloading a movie on Apple tv takes forever why

Downloading an Apple tv movie takes so long why, operator ?

The first thing to check would be your internet download speed, you can do this at www.speedtest.net.
1080p HD movies require a recommended speed of 8 Mbps, 720p HD movies require a recommended speed of 6 Mbps, while SD movies require a recommended speed of 2.5 Mbps.

No, I seriously doubt that 5.1 will ever support Servlet 2.3 spec, so,           you will not be able to use filters. On the bright side, 6.x doesn't support           final Servlet 2.3 spec either, so, if you really want to use filters you can
