Download actions issues : Firefox stopped to ask what to do with downloads

Hi to you all !
Since latest fedora update (using Firefox with Fedora 21 x64), Firefox was upgraded from FF36 to FF37. Since then, Firefox stopped to "ask" what to do when I'm trying to download a file : instead, the download goes straight to firefox integrated download manager and invariably failed, never even asking me WHERE to download anyway.
Preferences are actually setup to "always ask", and downthemall extension doesn't seem to work neither.
How can I switch back to the old behavior please ? Thank you !

Hello,
Could you goto about:config and search for browser.download.useDownloadDir
then double click the preference and set it to false if it is not already.
Let me know if that helps you.
Thanks,
Sir.Mayo

  • The firefox does not ask what to do with the torrent files, it opens directly into bittorrent. How do I switch it back to when it asks what to do with the file?

    I need Help

You can check the setting for that MIME type in "Tools > Options > Applications" and change the setting to "Always ask".
You may have to reset all download actions by removing the mimeTypes.rdf file manually.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
    * [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • Trying to install PSE13 from DVD.  Stops when ask to sign in with Adobe ID

Trying to install PSE13 from DVD.  Stops when ask to sign in with Adobe ID. How do I get by this?

I am having the same issue. I have contacted Adobe multiple times and keep getting the same answers."We are working on it and should have a answer in 1-2 days." I've been doing this for almost 2 weeks now. Have you gotten any answers yet?

  • Firefox doesn't know what to do with iWeb blog pages.

    Why?
Firefox doesn't know what to do with iWeb blog pages. All the entries are missing, and in their place are the words, Blog Summary Widget. Is this a problem with just my version of Firefox (like maybe I'm missing a plug-in or something?) or is this a failure on iWeb's part?

There have been some quantum leaps in design and usefulness between FF1 and FF3. I'm not surprised that FF1 can't handle it. Download the latest FF for Mac and/or Windows here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html

hi i would to ask what is wrong with my iphone4 its display apple icon only,,,tnx

    Hi
Try resetting your iPhone (Hold sleep/wake & home button for 10 seconds)
If that doesn't work, then you may need to connect your iPhone to iTunes, and restore it.

  • When downloading a *.cap or *.capx file Firefox opens it where it should ask what to do with the file. What to do?

*.cap files are generated by Capella from capella.de a scorewriter program.
Whenever I open a *.cap or *.capx file Firefox opens it always with a kind of lister-program i.s.o. asking what to do.
Internet Explorer and Chrome handle these files in a correct way. There I can define to open these files with a Capella program.
    Firefox is the negative exception.

Type '''about:preferences#applications'''<enter> in the address bar.
In the search bar, enter '''cap''' If anything is listed, change the action
(far right) to download or ask.

  • Firefox asks what to do with some PNG images instead of just displaying them

Not sure what is going on here, but some PNG images seem to confuse Firefox, while others are fine. While some PNGs just display when clicked on (eg: when wanting to see a full size image from a thumbnail), others make Firefox ask what I want to do with it. When I select "Firefox 3.6.8" it ends with an error:
/tmp/elementary_gtk_theme_by_DanRabbit-1.png could not be opened, because an unknown error occurred.
Try saving to disk first and then opening the file.
... but when I manually made it open with "/usr/bin/firefox" (I'm in Ubuntu) the image opens fine. I was beginning to think this was now universal for PNGs, but I was opening offending ones from the same site, and going elsewhere showed that some PNGs will be displayed as usual. Does anyone have any idea why this would happen to some PNGs but not all? Here is a link to one of the problem PNGs:
    http://s.linux-mag.com/i/articles/7811/elementary_gtk_theme_by_DanRabbit.png
It opens without issue in Opera. Hope someone can make sense of this. Cheers

  • Firefox asks what to do with an image instead of opening it

I'm not sure if there's a certain type of places or situations that trigger this but I get this from time to time while I simply shouldn't. One example from today:
While opening http://files.turbosquid.com/Preview/Content_2009_08_25__03_49_44/lav25_09.jpgd538774d-80dd-4e54-9378-73a399b5ef85Larger.jpg the 'Opening' dialogue pops up asking me what to do with the target, 'Open with' marked as default.
    How I got there:
    google image search for "lav-25"
    http://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/3d-lav-25-piranha-usmc-nato-nato/410876
    http://files.turbosquid.com/Preview/Content_2009_08_25__03_49_44/lav25_09.jpgd538774d-80dd-4e54-9378-73a399b5ef85Larger.jpg

I get the same effect with that image. The server is probably sending the '''content-disposition: attachment''' header. That header being sent causes Firefox to even ignore the ''Always do this automatically...'' user preference.
As a workaround, you can install the InlineDisposition extension.

  • Trying to install firefox. Computer asks what program do I want to open with? Don't know what to do.

Trying to install firefox for first time. Computer asks "what program do I want to open with". I have tried a few guesses, but nothing works. What program do I need to open with?
    Thanks

You can remove the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\) manually if you can't uninstall.

  • How to make Gnome ask what to do with devices?

When i plug a usb/cd into my computer (running gnome) it does open a window with my device already mounted.
How can i make gnome ask me what i want to do (similar to kde). something like:
    burn with app.
    play in app"

hdoria, sorry it's not possible to do that under gnome. You can't make it ask you what you want to do with the device. You can only set a default action under "removable devices and media" ad it'll automatically use that.
Kknd, he has that installed but he wants it to ask him for an action every time he inserts a media device instead of using a predefined option in "removable devices and media".

  • Yahoo Toolbar no longer shows up with Firefox 3.6. What's up with that?

The Yahoo Toolbar has essentially disappeared with the new Firefox update. I have check under "View" and "Toolbars" and Yahoo Toolbar is checked. But it is not showing up.

You can check if there is an update of the Yahoo! Toolbar that works in your Firefox version.
